One of the BEST experiences of my mmo/gaming life was entering Hillsbrad for the first time and the excitement/tension of seeing a red name. Oh, the fun that ensued. IMO nothing can match the spontaneity of the fun/excitement to be had from world pvp.
With such a big and beautiful persistent world, it’s a shame that there is no world pvp in GW2. Especially due to a mostly very good class balance and quite a few of the game mechanics which are very “world pvp friendly”.
1. With auto level balancing, griefing won’t be as big an issue.
2. Even if world completion was limited to your own faction’s POIs, 100% world completion or getting all the skill points would encourage you to get out there and enter dangerous areas.
3. Events would be tricky if the opposition faction suddenly showed up. But that just means: a. Get numbers (guilds would be actually useful). b. Be better prepared.
4. Population balances are fairly simple to control.
5. If you don’t like suddenly being wtfpwnd, REROLL PVE.
Ofcourse world pvp is a pain in thekittento implement (factions etc) and will never be implemented, but can’t help the feeling that the game would have been buckets more fun with world pvp.
