Can i ask why you jump across so many maps and don’t complete just the one map instead (for map completion award)

Is it faster this way? Would like your opinion

Sure. I found it harder and slower to try to complete an entire zone – solo. The rewards for the completions are nice, but I think it would be better to buy your way in gear if you are looking for some upgrades. The rewards are usually gear, so I didn’t think it was a good use of time – but at level 80 it is fun to go back. I do like when they give out things like boosts and maybe some keys. Other than that, I think it is much faster and easier to jump around.

Level19-80

UNFINISHED! I regret to inform you I will be unable to give you an accurate guide for Levels 19-80. Everything above and below this section of the guide has been accurately recorded and given to you with great care, time and effort. By following general ideas of the above section Level 1-18, you will be able to efficiently reach Level 80. Keep faith. I have posted this “unfinished” because I want to make sure anyone having issues will see this partial guide and have some help now and not later when/if it is finished. I can have an rough guide edited into this post and forum at a later date if you have enjoyed this guide and thought it was helpful and need more assistance.

Mystic Forge and Mystic Weapons
A simple description of the Mystic Forge: Used to create.

You can almost put anything you find into the Forge, but unless you know absolute recipes (like Mystic Weapons) you will get a random reward.

A Mystic Weapon is a high-grade Level 80 Exotic weapon. They’re obtained by using the Mystic Forge in Lion’s Arch. With the correct ingredients, you can make any type of weapon ( hammer, sword, shield, focus, etc. ).

One of these ingredients ( the scroll ) for a mystic weapon is bought with 50 Skill Points from a lady NPC near the Forge.

Ingredients for mystic weapons require one Eldritch Scroll, 30 Mystic Coins and 5/5 weapon components.

For weapon component examples: 5 Orichalcum Greatsword Hilts and 5 Orichalcum Greatsword Blades; 5 Orichalcum Pistol Barrels and 5 Ancient Pistol Frames.

Tips, Tricks, and other Notes

Flamekeeper Rix of Doomforge [Doom] in the lands of Dragonbrand

Level 1-18
There is something important to do before you begin your journey. After character creation and “tutorial”, you will be teleported to your World. This general area is one of the Starting Zones. Open your Map (M) and locate your city – it’s very close. Go into your city, and find an Asuran Gate – it’s noticeable, but if you can’t find it ask around (chat log entries to an entire area type “/m” first and “/s” for local areas). It will teleport you to Lion’s Arch. Jump through each of the other gates in the area you are now in – they are gates to all the other cities. You’re doing this so you can fast travel to the cities and other starting zones.

When you’ve discovered all the cities, you can start leveling up. Begin in a starting zone just outside of a city. Find an NPC [Scout]. This character will give you information on local tasks, like Renown Quests. Start completing hearts and Skill Challenges – and do any close events. Notice, there is a number in parenthesis in a tasks’ description. This number is your suggested level and if it turns red, you need to go to a new starting zone. Open your map and go to another city/starting zone and start doing generally the same as before. As you progress you will be able to do tasks you’ve left behind in another zone and it is okay to back and complete them – use Waypoints. Utilizing Waypoints gives you a big advantage – cheap and very useful time savers.
Note: As you achieve higher levels, it is okay to do a task five levels lower than your effective Level.

Average Completion:
Plains of Ashford – 44% map discovered; Hearts 10/16; Waypoints 12/18; Skill Challenges 5/6.
Queensdale – 58% map discovered; Hearts 14/17; Waypoints 13/16; Skill Challenges 7/7.
Metrica Province – 44% map discovered; Hearts 7/16; Waypoints 10/16; Skill Challenges 7/8.
Caledon Forest – 39% map discovered; Hearts 8/18; Waypoints 12/18; Skill Challenges 5/7.
Wayfarer Foothills – 42% map discovered; Hearts 7/16; Waypoints 9/17; Skill Challenges 8/8.
Total Map Completion – 9% map discovered; Hearts 46/301; Waypoints 76/507; Skill Challenges 32/202

Gathering: N/A (most materials gathered were in a direct path of a character)
Note: The amount of Karma, Renown Hearts, and other information provided will vary among players..
Note: If you are alone, a red numbered (suggested level) task will not be impossible but you will have a high chance of dieing. As a group, your chances of dieing are slim. Do not try to fight something with a purple or black suggested level.

General Combat and the “4 ’R’s’”
For one, choose your battles. Two, focus on your “4 R’s”: Run, Range, Revive, Rally. You may need to run and that’s not a bad thing! If an enemy looks tough, he probably is; use a long-ranged weapon for greater survivablity. Have a teammate? Revive them. If you’re bleeding out, instantly revive yourself with a “Rally!”. This is a very useful ability. Your ally can “Rally!” himself, with your help, too. This ability happens when you’ve damaged a target and he dies – you have to hit the target. If you go down, target the enemy with the least amount of health – if he dies, you live.

Choose wisely between rallying and reviving fallen allies. Let’s say your ally’s name is JOEP to make it simple. JOEP get’s downed. Revive JOEP if there are no low-health enemies. Rally JOEP by quickly killing that one enemy who is hiding in the group with low-health – hopefully JOEP was throwing rocks at the enemy before it died or he won’t Rally.
Note: JOEP is not a real character. And “throwing rocks” means damaging the Rally-target enemy.

Party
Having and enjoying party members is one of the best ways to Level up and explore Tyria. With a party, more loot will be dropped among players and that’s a benefit for everyone. If you don’t know many people, try finding a guild that suits you – most guilds are very helpful and happy to join you in a party.

Zone/World Completion
A completion would mean you’ve finished all the tasks in a zone – or in the world. Tasks are the Skill Challenges, Vistas, Points of Interest, Waypoints and “hearts”. An individual character will earn a random reward for each completion of zone, and also a reward when the World has been completed. The reward will scale to the level of the area completed. No spoilers.. I won’t mention anything about World Rewards. For an easier trip to level 80, hold off on doing completions until you are a higher level than the zone. Doing this, you will be as strong as the zone let’s you be – a big advantage.
_Note: Completions are not useless, and doing them could give you some nice gear. But being below level 80 means it will be replaced quickly. Make a choice: skipping or doing completions.

Inventory and Equipment
Just a suggestion. Keep a Crude/Basic Salvage Kit with you while you are leveling up. At higher levels, it is nice to have a better salvage kit, but be wise when you use them. Don’t waste them. Ask a friend if you’re not too sure about kits. For other things in your inventory, try keeping big bags. Slot 8 bags are good. Slot 20 bags are awesome (and expensive!). With some new updates to the game, there have been some add-ins of things like Mystic Forge Conduit. It is pretty much a mobile garbage disposal. In a nutshell, you get rid of 3 items per use – I would say useful if you’re farming. Don’t farm. Yet (wait until Level 80).

Renown Quests and Karma points
Renown Quests – easy – are tasks given unto you by NPC in distress. From pillaging Centaur to clearing corn, you could be knee deep in…water trying to get to a Renown Quest, but it is worth it. Aside from Experience, you get rewarded with money – it will come to you in the Mail. Also, after completing a heart task, most NPC with the golden heart will usually turn into a gracious “Karma vendor” – he wants to reward your good deeds, for a price. These vendors’ items vary. Mostly, it is gear; some of it is food or snacks (sometimes it is just junk to whack things with). Saving Karma while you level up is useful, but it won’t hurt spending it. In Level 80 Zones, there is a near plethra of high-level Karma vendors willing to part with there items for a steep price. A single item can cost upwards of 40,000 Karma points which would require hours of “farming events” – a job, indeed.

Karma is earned through Dynamic Events.
Note: Saving your Karma from Level 1-80 will give you alot of points, but it is just a fraction of the points you can earn at Level 80.

Skill Points
You have an unlimited supply of skill points – they’re waiting to be earned. There are 202 Skill Challenges available throughout Tyria. After you reach Level 80, you will still have an Experience Bar of around 250,000 points. Each time you complete a bar (“level up”), you will get a skill point. Other than buying Utility Skills, the points you earn can be used as currency for materials, see Mystic Weaponsbelow.

Introduction
This guide is going to be based on information taken from three Level 80s played during the first 40 days of the game. No bugs were exploited. No guild boosts or perks were used, although, doing so is not a bad idea. The guild will be focusing on Renown Quests ( “hearts” ), Dynamic Events ( “DE” ), and Skill Challenges. Points of Interest ( “poi” ) and Vistas will not be covered .

Race, Cities, and “Starting Zones”
Your Race and Profession are the first things you’re going to choose. Both are preference. Choose a race you want to be and choose a profession that you think suits you – your first character may not be what you wanted, which is okay. Each race has it’s own personal story (many variations of that story) and it’s own Achievements. Other than Achievements, your personal Story has useful rewards. To make sure there are no spoilers, the guide will not be covering any personal Story.\
Each race have their own city, and each have their own “Starting Zones”. Any race can go to any city- which is nice because there are no “Mine is better than yours” arguments. Here’s a list of these zones and cities: Race: City; “Starting Zone”

Asura: Rate Sum city; Metrica Province zone
Charr: Black Citadel city; Plains of Ashford zone
Human: Divinity’s Reach city; Queensdale zone
Norn: Hoelbrak city; Wayfarer Foothills zone
Sylvari: The Grove city; Caledon Forest zone

Note: Lion’s Arch is not a starting zone, but it is one of the current six main cities of Tyria. With an exception to being like other cities, it includes borderland portals (WvW), dungeon vendors and other additions.
