I am a Verizon user. I was having major issues. Somone posted this. I took a chance. I used this person’s suggestion. Fixed my issue instantly.

I’m also on Verizon in the NYC area and am experiencing this issue.
Instead of setting up a VPN, try this workaround:
Edit C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts using notepad (run as administrator)
Add this line at the bottom:
174.35.56.164 assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com
This helped me. I am a Verizon user.

This fixed my problem instantly. My patch patched in two seconds flat. You are the best, Kilam.4913 You should work for Guild Wars.
The exact same thing is happening to me. I’m sorry. I know how frustrating it is. I was able to play the game for one day. Yes, only one day.
I purchased the game Saturday May 17th. It took until Monday to download it (stayed at 0%) after a number of emails, phone calls and other such nonsense. I played for a few hours on Monday, and then we get a patch. NOW I CANNOT DOWNLOAD THE PATCH. Hey, here’s a novel idea: Instead of patching up the pretty and other stuff… you fix the dam* down-loader. I have Origin, Steam, and Gamefly. NONE OF THEM HAVE GIVEN ME THE PROBLEMS this game has. I’m ready to ask for a refund. This is a joke. And, what’s worse, there is nil for support from Guild Wars or Arenanet. So what am I and others like me supposed to do? Do the people who make the game care? It certainly doesn’t seem that way? These problems from what I’ve read have persisted since the release. Anybody else having these issues with the patch? I’ve opened all the ports “they” said to. It’s not that because it’s not fixed. I ran it as Administrator. I added the shortcut addition they told me to. NONE OF IT HELPS. Guess I’ll just sit here with my finger up my nose. Thanks Guild Wars and Arenanet. Hope you like my money. I won’t be buying GW3, that’s for sure.

I’ve read over the site, the forums, restarted my router, my PC, and all the other “tricks” to get the game to install. Still, the game stops downloading for no reason. It’s incredibly frustrating. I’m sure you guys can imagine.
Here are the specs on my PC. Windows 7 x64, AMD FX 6300 Six-Core, 16 gigs RAM, and a AMD Radeon R9 200 Series w/ 3 gigs of DDR 5 RAM. Can You Run It says my PC is, “In the 91st percentile.” I also went to Speed Test says I am getting download at 2.87.
Anyone got any advice?
