1. How do you feel about this proposal?
2. What, if anything, would you change about this current proposal?
3. Would you be interested in transferring to a new free world?
I feel there’s something you’re completely missing in the problem with the current state of wvw, and is the fact that population and coverage have a HUGE impact in the outcome of skirmishes. Defense is absolutely impossible against a blob, no matter what siege, no matter how fortified the target is. If the enemy army is 2-3 times yours, there’s nothing you can do other than capping back after the ktrain has moved on, and thus it makes server coverage matter more than anything else.
It doesn’t matter if you have “balanced” populations. That percentage is not constant at all times, so a player logging on a mostly OCX server at SEA time is going to have a very bad experience of wvw, since all he can do is roam, small havoc, recap stuff and -luckily- do dailies.
I’d transfer to a new world, if i felt that would change the state of things; i don’t think it will, so i think it’s a wrong approach you’re taking. Or, at least you should be addressing some other problems first (don’t get me started with lag).
Take TC, BG and YB fro example. All 3 servers are full and locked, yet you see the numbers and see the coverage… this lockdown doesn’t even things… at ALL.
BG is the #1 “bandwagon” server, but it’s not their fault; it’s the kind of wvw game ANet encourages with their design decisions, latter of which was to reduce the efectiveness of Hardened Gates, making pvd still a reasonable choice when defense is too thick.
Locking down a server does not make things even or even more enjoyable for players. They need to rework and rethink the way they measure server population, and more important, the way server population and coverage affects gameplay in general.
Also, design decisions impact different tiers in a different way. If you make towers easier to defend, the lower tiers will suffer (i’ve read people asking to nerf ACs… really…), but you’ll make nightcapping less of a thing, and i think that’s more important.
I started playing wvw because of the strategic component. Over the years, this has fallen from finding optimal tactics into mindless blobbing and exploiting poorly designed terrain features (catas on weird places, i’m looking at you). I don’t like blobbing, and don’t like being blobbed at.
And i certainly don’t like a game mode where the server with more population wins, no matter what you do.
We’re been reporting him on a daily basis for almost 3 weeks, and nothing has been done. The guy sometimes drains supply before BG attacks a wp’ed keep, or builds siege on top of supply to keep people from grabbing it, or just pulls every tactivator whenever able.
I understand this behavior goes against the game’s code of conduct, and yet ANet has done nothing about it. Zero.
Soon, wvw will become a war of spies trolling the enemies’ supply. I hope that’s not the goal.
Last night i gave this build a shot and let me tell you it does behave good at wvw roaming/havoc (gvg or zerg is different atm because of the heavy projectile hate there is).
I’ve been playing a tanky/support build lately, which i found i felt really comfortable with, but this felt refreshingly sweet. Making those daredevil roamers run in panic alone made the money worth.
It does suffer a bit of (lack of) sustain, so i reccomend saving CA form as a second heal (the stun helps here) because it does not build astral force so fast as a “traditional” druid does. Troll Unguent may help with that, but i don’t like that heal and never will.
PVE is more forgiving, specially in open-world content, and i still have to take her to fractals, but thank you for sharing and congratulations: you’ve made a really strong build here
Nothing wrong with tons of people gathering to fight. That’s what wars are made of.
What i think is disappointing is the fact that no matter how well guarded/upgraded/defended a fortress might be, a blob can literally run over it without significant resistance.
For instance, they can turtle-treb Overlook from the hill, crush both inner and outer walls and then run for the cap, and you can do nothing about it.
That mindset, that way of doing things, has to change.
