The latest case of “farming nerfs” was actually a bug fix. I’m aware of this because I was asked to help identify the issue. The area in question contained a spawn that was defined to have more creatures than spots for those creatures to spawn. So for example, 25 skelks spawning on 10 points. This is not intended. Not only does it just look absurd, it’s also leads to some extremely bizarre play conditions. This is one of those bugs that’s so buggy, the fact that our toolset even allowed this to happen is a bug. Another bug caused this bug. Bugception.

If we didn’t want players to be able to farm, we wouldn’t have put in the huge (and free) magic and gold find buffs for Southsun Cove. We wouldn’t drop loot from the giant mobs of creatures that appear in upscaled events. We certainly wouldn’t have put in chests that appear after events which cycle every 8 to 10 minutes. How quickly all of that content goes completely forgotten in the angered responses to a simple change to an area that was clearly bugged. :/

On farming in general, there’s a sweet spot that combines good loot with fun, engaging content. I think Southsun had that going for it, especially before certain aspects of the content were isolated as optimal. As someone who’s actively working on upcoming Living World releases, I’m aiming to find that sweet spot and hit it in a big way.

We’ll look into making it slightly smaller compared to adult cats but it still won’t be tiny compared to other minis.

All mini’s are built to roughly a common size relative to each other. They are intended to be toys or doll-like and not real creatures with real proportions (there aren’t really hundreds of miniature Logan Thackeray’s being born and sold into slavery. )

Yeah, I was a bit perplexed on why it was called a dungeon as well. Coming from the dungeon team previously, it really felt more like a boss instance, but I don’t write the patch notes or do the marketing.
I didn’t build the Canach encounters, but I did enjoy them. It’s a neat variation that changes gameplay, and I liked the mechanics. Sure there’s a few things that can be done better (as is with everything), but given the time the designer had to work on the instance, I think he did a great job.

Hm, all you’re currently releasing is living world content as far as I’m aware of, and most of it doesn’t seem to require a lot of work except the Molten Weapons Facility. How can he not have had enough time to work on this, and why did he have to do it alone? Makes you wonder how many designers there are to begin with.

There are multiple living world teams, each with assets from all departments. The initial scope for Canach’s instance was as it is now – we had a shorter time table to build things, so we just wanted to plan for a story boss fight (easier) and a multiplayer boss fight (harder). The designer accomplished what we planned to do with it, but we never really considered it a dungeon – that was just a bit of a marketing mistake that set unrealistic expectations as a result of calling it a dungeon on the heels of MF.
He did it alone (or as alone as we all develop things as a team) because it was only a couple bosses in a small area – he didn’t and shouldn’t have needed any assistance with it, and it was finished within the scope of our initial plan.
I can’t give estimates on how long our team was developing this content, but it was an accelerated dev cycle for our team. Thankfully due to the schedule of our release, our team was staffed with some of the fastest iterative folks from the company to get something good out in a short time.
Our next schedule is much more relaxed than this one is though, so I’m very eager to see what we can do with it.

I think both FA/JQ would be great choices for a large NA guild. I’m not sure about FA contacts, but if you’re considering JQ shoot me a tell. We are historically and chronically outmanned during NA.

BG just had a new wave of recruits from FA I think. Either way you could help FA’s gap they created with the move, or come kill them on JQ.

best of luck with what ever server you guys choose to transfer to, my advice it to send a few scouts to potential servers (do not rep for RE) and get a feel for what the server is like and if it meets your guild requirements

Please come to SOR as we have the best NA community here. Our communication between maps is impressive and we are the least stacked out of T1 and T2 servers but it is our superior intelligence and organization that make us the true #1 NA. We have no queues in any maps 24/7 especially during NA prime time, so I guess you guild dont have to wait for queues like BG and JQ does. We basically roll BG and JQ ’s 80 man zerg with our elite 20 man zerg. An addition of another NA would greatly help us to dominate T1 even more.

SoR is a great server and I have met a bunch of cool people there, but #1 NA and the underdog? You can’t be both dude :P I mean recruiting is one thing…but is there a video of this elite 20 man guild taking out a zerg? Or am I missing something? I’m confuzzled.

I really think you and your guild should avoid transferring until after the new matchups on Friday. The new ratings system has the potential to shakeup many of the tiers so I don’t know if you can find a “stable” server at the moment.

Currently, T1 and T2 servers are probably the most stable. But 4 out of 6 of them are Full. I guess SoR and FA are still open but unless you really want to get away from certain people in Kaineng, I advise hanging out for at least another week.

If they make WvW Ascended not require laurels, you’ll just get a flood of PvErs coming in to get Ascended, clogging up maps with badge-farming-zerker-nubs.

I don’t particularly like laurels either, it just shows a lack of thought and design on their part that they have to put a 1-per-month cap on ascended items. But if that cap exists in PvE, I don’t see why it shouldn’t exist in WvW too.

And Dailies are incredibly easy to do in WvW. Usually 4 of them can be done just by playing WvW normally, and then it takes 10 mins each day to do the crafting one or the JP one or whatever. And now that they’re adding more WvW achievements, we won’t even have to do those.

well, i know i was trolling yesterday in map chat, but i surely did nothing offensive, none of my words were pointing someone, 4 messages for 72 hours. At least u should sent me a email or in game message to warn someone who uses offensive massage, ban someone instantly, thats not so nice.

We still plan to do both new legendary weapons, as well as a clear path (on top of the current random chance) to gain precursors which players can see their progress and understand how much work they have left to do to gain it.

It’s highly likely the precursor concept will involve playing varied different content all over the game to gather numerous content specific materials that are combined together to make a precursor.

We do also want to maintain that chance you could get lucky and earn one earlier through random drops, so when we add the new system we will not remove the current one to ensure players have multiple ways to gain the items. Also with the upcoming update to WvW, there will be a chance players can earn precursors from the WvW rank reward chests as well.

Ahhhh….Guild Coms, laurels and Factal Relics are all account bound so your argument for ascended gear holds no water. I have never played a game where WvW/PvP ranks of any sort where account bound.

And as someone said, running through content again should be half the fun.
