hi all,
I recently picked up an MSI X99S Gaming 7 machine with an Asus R9 290 graphics card. 16GB of memory on an I7-5820K CPU with a Corsiar h80i cooler. None of the equipment in the PC is overclocked (yet).
I’m experiencing regular lockups but only trying to play Guild Wars 2 and the events themselves aren’t consistent. For example, sometimes it locks up when I’m gathering resources while other times it’s right at the kickoff of a world event. It can happen within a few seconds of starting the game or it can happen 2 hours into a session. It has never locked up or rebooted unless I’m active in GW2.
I’ve run several memory stress tests including the Windows one – no issues.
I’ve run CPU stress tests including Furmark for hours on end – no issues.
I’ve watched the resource monitor and it will lockup when up to half the cores are idle.
The temperature of both the GPU and CPU are well within tolerances and pretty low.
I’m also a Photoshop, Lightroom and Corel VideoStudio user and I’ve done post processing on thousands of images as well as dozens of videos. These applications obviously stress the machine and there hasn’t been any issues with any of them.
I’ve tried disabling antivirus while running GW2. I’ve also tested previous versions of the AMD video drivers and various stages of the motherboard drivers but no change in the results. Disk checks have passed as well.
I’m at wit’s end and wondering if anyone has experience with this kind of build and GW2.
