But at least a lottery is called a lottery.
This game was not advertised as rng2win.
A rose by any other name is still the same.
But that isn’t the meaning of what is being said.
How is it not? He said that “atleast a lottery is called a lottery.”
Hence my quote.
Because he added another line and the meaning is affected by that. This is all a symptom of the change in loot progression, if it didn’t matter statistically, I bet there would be less of a concern about drops. The lottery posts odds, we have and will never have the odds tables for drop loots in game. One is transparent, the other closely guarded and mysterious, that is another difference.
I agree with the whole 1-80 experience
And map completion which is well beyond a single 80. For many of us that will be enough. Where some have over 1000 hours already, there are many who are magnitudes under that, in a sane reasonable realm. There is a lot of game here for the 2 hour a day (or less) warrior, that life beyond 80 or map completion doesn’t even matter at this point. So if WvWvW becomes that unbalanced with haves and have not’s, well I guess the haves can have it.

they explicitly lied about game updates champions guaranteed to drop loot with higher probability of rare/exotic drops overall…LIES
I swore I read that to and this one does bother me. First it would be great if they did, they should. But I don’t get how one states this will happen and then it doesn’t. No follow up word, no quick fix or any fix now. I really don’t get this one at all, to the point for a while there we made fun of it, after we killed a champ, “got your chest? You bet”… That joke even grew old, almost to the point where I was questioning that this was ever stated in a patch note.
The other is how the best goodies are all stuck in one dungeon .0001% of the game. As if there is some mini-revolt going on within Anet, so someone just said “ok, we’ll watch this!”, then proceeded to do one of the dumber things you could figure and it’s been that way for going on a month now.

DDO – Best Character Customization
C9 – Best Combat/Skill Mechanics

Yes. Cross-server.
I stopped reading forums, when all the messages became X too hard, nerf Y, I cannot solo Z, omg everything is too hard. It’s already easy as it is. We need to make the players feel like they achieved something, otherwise we can start giving 50 achievement points just for logging in, you know, cause it took effort to press play.
That’s one of the reasons I don’t mmorpg all that much you can’t have big exciting things, you get normalized things.
SP and Dedicated Server MP games (Think ARK/7Days types) that users control can simply be much more fun in these depts. One can be god-like.
But in the mmorpg world, tight controls are put in place to keep a common balance overall for all. If it were the other way in a mmo, a lot of med-low end gamers would simply leave, then the new low end of the better gamers would leave and well this is a business to bring in as many players as possible as that generates cash.
I get your point, but you’d have to find a much smaller team/mmo willing to take that risk of being ok with a much smaller audience. I find the games I mentioned above in user run servers to scratch that itch.
Truth is …. If you want be rich someone else must be poor.
Honestly that does bother me and I’m not even talking GW2.
We keep thinking that a small minority wanted vertical progression but it could also be that unfortunately the majority of the people just cant play a horizontal game like we do ! If you dont get a sense of wonder exploring, enjoying the art and experiencing stories what is there left for you to do in a horizontal progression game? If you cant enjoy a really beautifully crafted dynamic event chain, will you enjoy a skin that gives you no better stats?
I snipped a lot for everyone’s sake. Well I don’t have #‘s to give you on who likes horiz or vert, but it still goes against everything they been selling fans and if you didn’t like horiz, you bought the wrong game from the start. How do you make a game for 5+ years, say the same thing over and over and in a few months change it that fast? Even if the #‘s bore it out, that is a lightning quick design change, they seemingly didn’t even attempt to keep it horizontal. Typically the forces of change like that are: Money crunch, change in design leadership or a call from above.
I actually held off buying GW2 for a couple of months, I was one that didn’t feel it was ready, I actually got in because my son got it for his birthday, so I jumped in. The games handling to me never felt like GW1, I just recently found out two founders and a lead designer of GW1 were not on the GW2, that explained all I needed to know there. What I do find is the best open world game I’ve played, so I am enjoying my time, I would say if they needed to make a big change fast, they should have looked at the games strengths and strengthened them more. Even though the open world is great, we all can imagine it even better and guess what, that would have continued building community and not separation.
And the broken record I am, they should have gone for tons more unique looking gear to go for and not better stat’d gear. All would have stayed in line.
Plus, Steam is evil.
How so?
you need to load resources that has nothing to do with the game just to play the game
That is evil? Yeah it uses resources, resources you have and many other apps and process also require resources to. I get it some go to the nth degree, but the masses have spoken, first world problem.
Why isn’t it for sale on Steam. $$$/Contracts. Someday when Anet thinks it may make sense for them, it will change.
“Anet, you need to tell player’s what you are actually doing with your cash in order for them to keep giving you theirs. I understand that an update is coming from you, but it’s just plain disrespectful to your player base to ask for more money through a sale, displaying a player’s commitment to the game, without you showing any commitment to them first.”
The way I look at it I already gave them cash and possibly all I will be giving them prior to an expansion. I don’t see them ASKING for us to spend more, the blog you pointed to wasn’t a cry from dev to player base to “please go buy more stuff”" at all. They have a gem store if we want to spend more, it has been there from the start, they run specials like every other game. I still can’t really find a darn thing on the store worth having to me, which is great, because I don’t really even want a store.
So when your subject line asks a questions to yourself, I cannot answer that for you. The general answer is, each of us gets to make a choice on what they want to spend our money on, for you you think a blueprint and communications is necessary as a good faith measure to buy additional things, there is your answer, you asked and answered yourself, gratz. I look at the need and value of the products being offered and not extra road-map plans for a shop purchase, the purchase to me is a here and now thing.
As for “hitting play and going bye bye”. Perhaps you should get a job in game making to learn this stuff isn’t easy and grow some respect. There were some patches etc during the whole season and I believe one on a major holiday, that tells me there are plenty of people around still.
This game has highlights and warts, not surprising, we’ll see what happens. As another wise-man has stated, you can go do something else and come back later to see if you like what they have added and changed. Relax a little.
If you aren’t happy why would you buy things in the store? I’m happy overall and I still don’t.
Ok all that said, it does seem they can do better addressing the most repetitive comments via word then actions. I cannot deny that. The bigger you get, the more chiefs you have to answer to, the more chiefs that dissect your every public word. It becomes a stalemate in many cases. That is why indies can be more open to their player base, there is no one above them looking down, so they can act open and straight up to their gamers.

Repeating….
Two issues I have:
1. Bugged chains.
2. Population is too sporadic to run events.
You’re playing a multiplayer game and you’re asking for new content to be singleplayer. Why?
I live in a multiplayer world and the word solo exists. I wouldn’t mind a LFG tool though. I’d also prefer scaling to team size, just to cover all the bases.
Where do you get your self entitled attitude from?
It’s called his/her opinion of things and standing up for what he/she believes is right. That is what freedom is about. He/she was wronged, doesn’t look to sue, just wants an “I’m sorry”, what is so hard about that?
I’ll start, I’m sorry OP that you had to go through an unjust process, seriously. Good to see they figured it out in just a day and not weeks.
That said I have seen many apologies given out at the forum from Anet, Gale most likely leading the way. They have shown care.
And that said, the class thing is to do it via PM, no need to bring the drama.

Sounds like luck won the day here. Next question.
How do you feel about the guy who won 100 million real dollars for making a $1 bet?
Also am I supposed to feel a bit robbed because I had to play on a over-flow server while others were able to play it through on their official server? I feel a little dirty right now.
You fail to see the point.
It would be a matter of luck if EVERYONE had a chance to participate in this and some got the rewards, some not…Now it was just punishing the players who couldn’t be online the 3 particular hours of the month.
There are lotteries out there I cannot participate in due to the area I live. I think that is wrong. I see the point, if I’m going to worry about petty jealousy, it makes more sense putting efforts in the real world and unbalanced rules for some vs others. I don’t like the kids that never did squat that get to globe-trot from top night club to night club kittening all the beautiful people.
In some ways everyone did have the chance to participate. You could move to a country with an internet connection, buy the game, take the time off and be awake for the event.
I could be one complaining as I didn’t get a precursor, while the guy next to me did. But I wasn’t born last night, that’s how it goes. I just let stuff like this roll cleanly off me. Who’s better adjusted, the person that can accept it or the other that asks for a congressional investigation over such heresy? Figuratively speaking.
Since they cost so much, it would be nice to get extra materials when gathering or something.
So instead of getting 3 soft wood logs, you would get like 4 or 5 all the time with this endless gathering tools.
That wouldn’t make any huge difference to TP market or anything, but would be just another way to make people interested in those tools —> more money for Anet :P
They could come with their own Shared Inventory slot!
They’ll never tell us the skinny, but personally I felt the change in direction recently was due to either outside forces wanting more $$$ or outside forces needing more $$$. Outside forces = NCSoft and/or Nexon.
I think we are seeing a different GW2 than the manifesto and did we not here last week via a rumor the vision switch even caught Anet employees off-guard, tells me that a entity above them is flexing some power.
I hope all the above isn’t true, because that is a large tremor that adds risk. That also means a Korean company is driving the game and we know what that typically means. It also can affect moral, one day you are in charge, the next day you are taking orders. I’ve also have seen more liberal moderating here, which was needed, the good way to look at it is they need to be more open to people saying their piece and taking what is needed from that. Or the bad way, we don’t care as much anymore, say what you want, we got sucker punched ourselves.
Who really knows, but I wasn’t a fan when NCSoft acquired Anet. This Anet isn’t the same as it was when it was Anet on their own releasing GW1. Perhaps GW’s 3 will be a Kickstarer! LOL
I’m horrified at the idea that a single instance is now the end-all be-all don’t-bother-doing-anything-else source of the best gear.
What a gorram trainwreck. A dull, repetitive, lazy, trainwreck.
If it were my game, I would have put a “Out of Order” sign on FotM’s until the high-end loot was dispersed properly around the world. How they left it going like this, tells me more then I want to know.
