As far as new people coming into GW’s and going straight to 80 and forgetting the past lands to me is a mistake for them. They should enjoy the first romp through, it’s great and with mega server there are still plenty of people out there, plenty.

It is very possible they would like those lands more than HOT’s twisted verticals as well, it’s much more traditional.

The free 80 I rec’d makes a great option for a new 80 after I have done one manually I feel, as someone just said, to test out the other builds.

Plus how awkward is it to start a new mmo and have a max’d out player? You’d be some shadow 80 with about 2% of the knowledge you need and then head straight into HOT? Yeah, to me that isn’t the ideal path for a new player. The game is plenty fun for a new player to start fresh from level 1. This isn’t like a standard mmo with truly abandoned lands that take forever and a day.

Just think when they are done with HOT then what? You start from say Queensdale, you still have Season 2 and Hot when done and not there with a finger in your bum… this is imo the best way to go for a brand new player and as another said… “they’ll play now because they can join me in HOT” we all know leveling is fast and don’t you want to level up another character to play with? Just start another and play with your friends.

Not poo poo’ing, but I’m not sure that a brand new player, straight to 80, straight to HOT is in their best interest. The old lands are super great at least the first time through. But whatevers.

OP I still like the game. But you are spot on, they lost my trust to. I don’t know if they realize how off they’ve been with their words vs actions. I don’t even know if they care. I held them in the highest regards, it’s like a different company to me. From my heart, it hurts, and oddly enough I still like the game on several levels, so it’s not a total train wreck, but I am a bit puzzled inside.

On this we will disagree red, when I am in the map, I wanna be free to chill out with friends on TS, and to pay more attention to chat that any loose npcs. Especially 2 vets parked right at the spot I need to be in order to jump to a mastery that is prolly gonna kill me anyways. In beta the masteries were alot easier to find and get to.

There are many maps you can do just that on. HOT’s degree of difficulty is exactly the correct design choice, it continues to build up from maps previous to it. Now you get more rewards to make it feel more with the effort. Sound.

PvE, it’s fun to fight a lot of mobs at once semi-often, I picture action mmo’s as ARPG’s with a 1rst/3rd person pov. Making a game where you are just a little bit stronger than a singular foe that you are up against often, makes for a very dry mmo experience. Been there…. fell asleep.

For some builds Guard/War they have the armor to chop up many at a time. However for an Ele/Necro/Mez they don’t. So they need to rely on AOE for that task. This is in question?

AOE is fun.

If the game needs different skills for PvE vs PvP please do that… in the name of fun for both modes. Don’t take away a fantasy gaming staple. Don’t be the action mmo that took away the action.

I also find this being discussed bizarre, the talk of “to aoe” or “not to aoe” should have been done years ago and the answer should have been “to aoe” and in the future any developer out there should conclude “to aoe” as well. You tweak things, yes. You don’t consider really taking away/nueteraizing AOE. AOE is a staple for several classes in this game, in this genre, it’s fun, what else needs be said?

Figure it out. This rethinking a truly core ideal is disturbing to me.

No. It’s a good thing people are different. I do agree with the one said, if I could buy the exact one’s I want, I would do that. I think that could be said of a lot of things in the Store. But it’s mostly are RNG, now if everyone was like me, that would totally flop. But we hear from people that say they spent $100 and got nothing they wanted, spent $1000 and got nothing. It’s amazing really what some will spend, but we are different, I must respect that. Champs Dropping Loot (Nov 15th Patch)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Horrorscope.7632

Horrorscope.7632

From Nov 15th notes:

“The drop rarity of Rare and Exotic weapons from certain places in the world (champions, veterans, and players in WvW) has been increased. Rares and Exotics should be much more likely to drop and every champion should be guaranteed to drop loot. This was to ensure that world loot drops were not a significantly worse way of acquiring rare and exotic items than crafting and running dungeons.”

Why hasn’t this happened, been fixed or explained to us? Not trying to be a k.i.t.t.e.n. here, but this is pretty black and white. The notes and that this hasn’t happened and hasn’t been addressed, I believe.

“Should be guaranteed” is a bit tricky wording, but I read that is “It should drop, we want this to happen, if not it’s a bug, please report and we’ll re-address that until it does work”.

Legendary weapons stats same as exotics

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Horrorscope.7632

ANet has officially stated that Legendary stats will be bumped to Ascended when Ascended weapons are introduced.

The problem I have with this is the fact that Legendary weapons should be the pinnacle and nothing should match them save another Legendary.
So, what’s the point in going after a Legendary weapon if I can get one of equal stats, easier, in Fractals ?
The entire purpose of pursuing a Legendary weapon is to obtain something that cannot be obtained through anything else but hard work and due diligence.

It was discussed publicly all along that it would only be cosmetic, the game at level 80 at the Exotic Level to be the end all stat wise. From there anything else was cosmetic differences. That is what they referred to as Horizontal. But something happened along the way.

Horrorscope.7632

Brainwashing works. Ask most boys what their favorite color is and it’s blue! A girl the same question and it’s pink! I wonder why?

Now if they thought about it more deeply and accurately, I think there are two answers that would average higher than blue or pink. They would be either:

1. I don’t have a favorite color, I don’t need to play favorites with colors, they are just colors.

2. Or Black. When I look at what color people gravitate more to unconsciously vs brainwashing… I see they tend to prefer Black. What’s worth more in the Trading Post? Blue, Pink or Black?

So why in the question of Fav color, is black omitted? I played that game with my son not so long ago, he answered blue, I told him he was wrong, he looked at me “How can you say that I’m wrong on such a thing?”. I then pointed to all the things around him, much more black and very little blue. Then I asked him why does one need a favorite color? He then went into deep thought…

But Blue and Pink from the crib baby!!! System rules.

The OP deserves a simple apology. There is no harm in that and nothing wrong with it. I mean heck, even support told him to come here and get one (which is rather bad that they did that instead of just apologizing themselves).

Right on. I’ve apologized to a customer of mine today, of not giving them enough information on eCommerce Cart options they could consider as they look to add one to their website and I’m pretty indirect on the process. Apologies aren’t nads or first born, they show we care and are free.

I was told it was reduced to make the game more balanced, more viable builds, easier for Joe Q Public.

But then you go into dungeons and you quickly find out all builds are no where near equal. You have some people that can steam roll dungeons and others that cannot complete them. I have to assume build variation plays a large role in that variation.

Now for me, it was easier in GW1 to figure out a working build(s) for all content, then it is for me in GW2. Also saving load outs made it easy to change the build quickly when needed, you cannot do this today.

You cannot beat dungeons in this game with any build or character. It has to be planned. To me this goes against what they stated, but that is now par for the course. I’d check the air over there to be honest, somet’n fishy is goin on.

So with zerg reviving getting the boot....

Robert thanks for the info and structure of how dungeons have been designed to date.

Since you’ve been the “owner” of the dungeons, have other team members questioned on how different the Open World plays vs Dungeons? To me this is a sizable issue. In the Open World hundreds of builds are viable, in Dungeons the difficulty is ramp up several times more and it starts to make you use cookie cutter builds, it seems to me.

You cannot make everyone happy with one difficulty level in dungeons. To many it’s too hard, to others it’s too easy. If you are the passionate dungeon player, I suggest you take a tip from DDO the leader in MMO dungeon design and over the years there they realized they needed several difficulties. It shipped with 3 there are now 6 per dungeon, one being epic which makes the dungeon scale to max level. Yes the gaming population can vary that much. I don’t want to say make the dungeon easier when there are others wanting more of the challenge, we need choice in both directions.

The open world in this game has been inviting enough to the point is has allowed two players on my end that rarely play online games like this, that said it could be a bit more difficult still. But putting them in a dungeon as it stands today… is pretty much a “Keep out, you aren’t invited” sign. And for me, how the mob’s hp ramps up in dungeons, doesn’t match the rest of the game at all, it’s awkward, like the story in GW2. Orr is a cakewalk for example vs the lowest dungeon difficulty experience in story mode.

To me the entire team has to look at the games as a whole, something doesn’t ring quite right with how dungeons stand today vs the rest of the game.

We need difficulty choices.

All of them, it’s called playing with a friend. The way this game was designed (unless they are going back on that to) was for true down-scaling, one big reason was to sidekick with others, but we are too strong and it takes away from the friends enjoyment. It’s so simple. This was something that was different vs other mmo’s. It’s not supposed to be a face-roll, it’s not supposed to make you feel like you are getting stronger. It was to allow you to play all content in the game at any point and you have a leveled challenge. It’s so very simple, wanting it where you are mighty is lazy on our behalf, it wasn’t supposed to be like that.

One may counter you can buy key’s, but again you can’t buy those without using the local currency which you get from doing things in AB. Once I realized the point, all was good again with the world. If you stop doing things in AB, then you maybe able to jump maps and see shiny containers, but you will not be able to open them.

So the suggestion is a way to get loot without having other unwanted events to happen. Have an option to separate it from the Interact button, just for itself.

Or have an option to auto-pickup loot by just moving over it.

Is this game destined to be an E-Sport?

Horrorscope.7632

Does no one follow the dev interviews and livestreams? Whether or not it’ll be a flop the dev team is actively working on implementing e sport features such as custom arenas and spectator mode.

First I hope it still is everything one would ever want for e-sport, pvp balance etc. But I’m also of the belief you get one first impression almost always. There is a very small sample of some mmo making a major players # breakthrough after a content update. The game usually peaks at release and dwindles from there, if it’s great (very few) it grows. To have this Feb. PvP content patch have people rethink GW’s 2 as a E-Sport sPvP game, isn’t smart gaming business based on what I would think is historical tendencies.

However if I were hired and this was my job at Anet to make this work… I’d keep making it better and better, but the big focus would be on the next expansion. Have everything and I mean everything in place and have one of it’s main selling features be E-Sport PvP and it best be ready. You could get the surge there. If my part still wasn’t ready, I’d expect a pink slip.

In my view, the game is going in the wrong direction

“Continuing to evolve PvP into an E-sport as outlined here:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/structured-pvp-iceberg/ "

This is what’s wrong with the spvp content in the first place. Please Anet stop trying to force this E-sport title onto us. All it does is alienate the already dwindling population in spvp and creates boring, repetitive content.

Make pvp for fun and not for some tacked on E-sport title. If this is done right, the E-sport crowd will come to you. Not the other way around.

This is something I see them kidding themselves on. Games like LoL will be where the e-sport is, simply because that is all they do. Not 10 others things in game and SPvP. I just don’t see this game ever being considered some type of professional PvP stop. So so many games have said they wanted, only a very few have ever been.

I got to silver waste using my level 80 boost. My word that map is nuts. They take a fort, you take it back., they take a fort, you take it back, and rinse and repeat. I can’t seem to find any point to it.

Look for squads, it’s a large meta, if you just come in solo and try to makes sense of it, you are joining at a random time and it will look like chaos. I’ve been there myself. Once you get it down, it is a very fun map. I’d say all the newer maps are that way. Assume something much larger than just be-bopping around and make it a point to understand what is going on in each map, makes them way better, way better.

For many I believe this is the life cycle of the newer maps:
-Wow this is different.
-This is harder.
-I don’t understand.
-How can this be fun?
-Many may quit right here and assume the worst and it does them or the game no favors.
-But if you stick with it, slowly and surely everything comes into focus.
-These Meta’s are fun. I feel like I’m better for this.
-Difficulty at first I overstated but now is nothing special either.
-Wow lots of loot!
-The original maps are pretty plain jane thinking about it now.
-I’m concerned with the backlash that the next expansion will go back to the original types of maps, but now I’ve really come to appreciate the new ones.

in Suggestions

There are meta-events that serves as a FFA Raid. But that gets chaotic, and the spell animations turn the boss into a glittering mess. It would be great if they could turn it into an instance (ala story mode) so you can only have 25 people max instead of 100 or more. This would also prevent people from not getting loot by the end of the fight since the boss gets overcrowded.

Ahh there are definitely servers where Orr’s meta’s will not net you 100 players, not even close. This sounds like release related issues, game is seemingly past that stage.

I’m not sure I break it down to a second chance. My plan is to play this casually, meaning I’m going for 100% map completion as my first goal and possibly only goal, I’m leveling a couple players as I play with different groups. If there is something more for me at the time map completion is done, then I’ll stick around longer, if not I’ll see what the expansion looks like and decide then and move on to something else. Satisfied. If I make it close to map completion I will be satisfied, I’ve paid the same for much less already.

In regards to those that were very hurt by the changes, to me why would words change it? They are upset at the change and it’s affect. Words don’t change that. If you hate vert progression, if they apologized for it but still keep it, words in a case like that don’t matter. You now have 100’s of hours in front of you of something you don’t like. Those words will fade much faster then that.

This doesn’t change my view that I hate dungeons in GW2, pretty much from A to Z. Funny thing is my fav mmo is DDO and was all dungeons, it’s just how they do them in GW2 and how it also affects other bigger parts of the game.

To educate myself. What is the big deal/difference if you do it in your home server or in overflow? Leaving out the obvious, you didn’t do it on your home server, but what else is different? For all the complaining there must be something more. So far I haven’t noticed no real difference playing in either. I get proper credit, same loot etc.

This may not all have to do with guesting either. I’m on a server that isn’t one that is well known here where people flock to and we now have overflows on standard zones. What looks to have happened, is we are now seeing how many people were pent up in fractals for several months because of better loot there, now they see better loot in the open world and the turtle boys are now back outside again, so those players are now in zones vs fractal instances. Boom overflow.

There is no doubt a large base of players will go where the best loot can be had with minimal time. The next Anet trick is to figure out how to balance the perception that loot/time is equal in all phases of the game. Then at that time you can see what content people like vs another. Every mmo struggles with this, even 5+ years in.

I dont pretend to be very good at this game. I dont understand why a team of lvl 80 players with more than 1000+ hours of play and geared out in full exotics, with multiple exp in all the game dungeons would get bounced around like popcorn, knocked down and held down until defeat by ….adds? How is that FUN? I ask. It is more annoying than challenging. We did complete our post patch curious run, but honestly it wasnt very enjoyable. We kept wondering the whole time what this experience would be like for/with pugs. How is this a lvl 35? Who thinks that constantly being kicked around before you can even get back up is challenging? If the goal was to prevent AC farming…which btw… why would anyone care if exp players ran the dungeon in 10 minutes? Not everyone who plays this game has all day to run dungeons. 2.5 hours in a dungeon? Please shoot me! Seriously?

I am speechless that the entire brain-trust overlooking GW2 hasn’t addressed this.

How can difficulty/HP etc vary that much from open world to dungeon? Do they eat spinach in dungeons?

You cannot get anywhere near close to satisfying gamers with one difficulty level for instances. Some what GW2 dungeons harder, I would say though a lot more would like them tamed down quite a bit, we need choice please and like yesterday.

I don’t understand how a mob outside goes down in 5 shots but in a dungeon it’s 50. What is the lore behind this enhanced vitality? Drop the HP boost and just add more baddies instead.

I just want to say thanks to everyone that does that as you are subsidizing my game play. Even though I feel totally square with GW2 since I paid full retail for the game. But in totally F2P games… thanks again! (I put in around $20 on those, inv, trade, auction house features)

Uh huh, and that way of thinking is why so many MMORPGs boom at the start, then quickly die out and just become another game on the list of games people quit.

But that’s the downside to the F2P model that most people don’t realize. Even though you’re not paying a subscription, they’re still going to find a way to get that same money from you. All they’re doing is marketing the cost in a different way.

Agreed, but I think plenty of people get what’s going on. I prefer subs, because you have a chance at more transparency and less ulterior motive/mysterious ways. FtS… Free to sub, everyone can try it out (HUGE) for free to see if they like, then pay a sub from there. If you like it $15 a month is cheap gaming.

I am assuming until directed better that the issue is also players that are coming out of Fractals and Dungeons and some maybe even coming back to the game all because the loot drops in the open world are now better. Which that in itself can create overflows. Guesting can also exacerbate (I love when I can fit that word in a convo) that as well, but I’m thinking on my server that isn’t the case.

I’ll have hit dumbinishing returns and have to do something else till it resets…

We need an icon when it is in affect, only makes sense, no? It does feel like DRM… “only punishing legit customers”.

Enemies respawn too fast in my personal opinion

Ever cleared mobs before a veteran?
By the time the veteran is at 50% at least one mob will have respawned on top of you.
Usually sooner, and usually more than one…

Kill 3 normal mobs, kite the fourth = guarantee to run into the first mob you killed again.

Many other examples to be found.

I know I wanted to get in on this conversation but didn’t know how to approach it, your example is perfect.

Right now there seems to be a focus on the places where the re-spawns are below the 90-120 rule. But can the 90-120 be questioned as well? This example is one that does bother me, you kill the trash mobs, then get to the boss, usually Champion in my case but Vet can happen to. While fighting them, you have to fight the same trash mobs again (I feel ok calling them Trash, as they aren’t real I tell myself), that doesn’t feel right. Also like going into shallow caves, you fight your way in and way out the same thing. I get deep caves, but some are like 50 yards deep and you fight the same coming and going. That is where 1 minute and 30 seconds seems too fast even.

Wouldn’t it be interesting to test this out in the wild? For example if it’s deemed these respawns are a bit aggressive, then adjust to 100-130… Await feedback, if more is needed 110-140. Rinse and Repeat.

For things with Champs I could possibly even see them having their set trash mob and they don’t go back on the respawn timer until the Champion goes down. So perhaps an hour ago someone cleared the Champs henchies (I’m starting to feel bad calling them trash) but failed at the Champion, the team coming in at that point doesn’t have that Champs henchies to fight, just the Champ. I could see that.

Then when you kill the Champ the chest ALWAYS drops. I couldn’t resist. I’m also of the belief that really making a Champ drop a chest every time and that it can have ascended pieces as well, completely revitalizes the open world game. Such a little step could do so much good. Also have a 50/50 chest drop on vets or something like that.

Play the Game for FUN!

I will never understand people that sling the line “don’t play if you aren’t having fun”. You know what happens when enough take that advice?

To me that line is one of the most sensible lines I can think of. It would be sad if people have to force entertainment on themselves, some may even call that “work”. If enough people take the advice? Everyone should. If you aren’t having fun playing a game, you owe it to yourself to find something else to do.

If nothing changes for me, I’ll be done with GW2 until the expansion when I have 100% map completion, that is when my fun will end. I don’t redo/farm, it numbs me, so I go elsewhere. Now if you have that personality and find that fun, bless ya. If you farm and hate farming, I call mirror.

It’s not down-scaling enough in the spirit of what it’s trying to do. I’ve seen people not wanting to be around me when I do downscale, because it’s no fun for them, perhaps they aren’t getting any credit for my kills. People wanting to defend it as-is just want the easier way out, it saves some time for me, but that doesn’t really make it right.

Respawning, seriously?

How are you dying in these dungeons in the first place? Most people have no trouble with them.

Prove it.

Guesting and Overflow [merged]

The difference is that if you’re in overflow, you don’t know the timer for the event and are “forced” to play as though you’re not just farming that event. End result: You can’t just get a relatively huge reward for 5 minutes of well-timed participation.

Thank you, that does explain it and why I didn’t see a problem. Semi-exploitive stuff, goes back to a segment of players were loot/min is critical, just critical to their gaming fun. I know my timers, I sit down perhaps one time in the evening, all reset for me, things happen when they happen.

Got it, I just hope I’m stupid and those that make this a big deal but the same efforts into real life, because they should be very successful.

What level 5 zone are you going to that has anything even remotely worth it for a level 80?

You totally missed the point.

I get your point, but looked at is a narrow. The reason I would go back would be to play with a friend. Nothing to do about farming for better stuff for my 80, yes people like me do exist.

Dungeon Patch Discussion 2/26

Just because dungeons are harder for you, and you don’t like it, doesn’t mean you speak for everyone.

Since I cannot know where every sits on that as you say. I then use my considerable dime a dozen game knowledge over decades of game play. The point of entry for standard GW2 dungeons is by far and I mean not even close the highest I’ve seen.

Your first game which was all dungeons was 1/3 the difficulty for entry point, if not less. So I rationalize that way, compare it to everything I’ve played, you sir like very long drawn out fights, buffed mobs, build dungeons where it’s ok to die as long as you can grind through it one way or another. Most people prefer clean runs, so there is some pride on the other end along with loot.

That said, I surrender there are people that can run these well, it’s just not average folk, otherwise every other game is really low balling difficulty. Games on the opposite end are Dragon’s Nest or C9, that is when easy becomes stupid easy.

So...I Just Thought of THE best Idea for gw2

Or just go play another game. Really if Dungeon Mode is that important to you, DDO is better. It’s a whole game built on dungeon mode and they have like 5 different difficulties. You can solo, trinity or not trinity. And it has a LFG tool. Or perhaps wait for Neverwinter.

What you are suggesting though is a lot of change, most notably having a whole set of other skills that would allow the trinity roles and expectations other games have. I would say the safest thing is to accept what has been given to us. If it’s that big a deal that it doesn’t do what you have to have it do, then move to another game. I’m not against what you write, but what’s the chances? Like .000000001%.
