OOM: Heap, bytes=33967608,
OSVersion: Windows 5.1 (32 bit)

Im not sure what windows you are actually running, but the OOM is Out of Memory error, this is a common error with windows 32bit OS, just search the forums for out of memory and see how many results you get,

My guess is that your old card was not running higher settings so you did not run into this problem, and your new card can run the game with higher settings, try lower your settings and see if this helps, the only real fix for this it to upgrade to a windows 64 bit OS.

If he is running a 32bit OS, with that R9 card, he just cut his own foot off.

32Bit OS’s see a max of 4GB of ram (if PAE is enabled, I think the max is 16GB of ram). But’ I am going to assume PAE is not enabled for the OP in this discussion.

That card has 2GB of ram, His system has 4GB of ram(just saying, could be less). With out PAE his system ram is only 2.25GB out of the possible 4GB due to the presence of his GPU.

That is why he must upgrade to 64Bit. So that his system ram does not get choked by having a 2GB+ GPU.

And that is most likely why his system is currently crashing. GW2 will use ALOT of ram if you have the ingame options set high enough. If the system runs out of ram it must page it, if it cannot page the memory requests fast enough, it will become unstable and crash whatever application is using the bulk of the ram.

Giving that his current system ram is about 2.25GB, windows will boot with 900Megs in use, not including other applications…so lets say his OS sits at 1.4GB of ram in use. that leaves 850Megs of ram for GW2 to soak up. if he runs Firefox, IE, Java/Flash based applications on top of GW2 (like Pandora or Spotify) he now has less then 400Megs for GW2 to run.

Hence the OOM issues.

until the OP reveals his CPU we won’t know how to help him.

and Mr FlyingBee, STOP with your banter. you are doing NOTHING but Hi-Jacking threads at this point.

Man I wish there was an ignore/Block Feature on this forum.

On consumable design, in general:

  • It’s not really my place to comment too widely on this aspect of the game. I do know for certain it would not be consistent with some of GW2’s fundamental design pillars to create an environment where everyone is expected to have on-hand some elaborate set of consumables needing to be laboriously maintained and activated. This is why, for example, you are allowed only one food buff at a time.

I understand what you’re saying, but the reality is because they exist the big fights that require great precision (Teq, Marionette, Giant Worms) etc. are going to be filled with people who want maximize damage in every way. Which is why before every Teq fight (at least on Dragonbrand) we’d do a run through the events to get mortars and fire eles. I’m not saying/asking for them to be removed, but if you’re going to have something that helps give an edge is a fight that is painful to complete, people are going to require everyone to have it to increase the odds of success. I understand why you made the changes you did, but sadly I think it will mean Teq will not be fought on Dragonbrand again since the fire eles were so core to defeating him.

I don’t fault the developer’s tone, and did not find him rude or condescending. However, as I posted earlier, I do fault him for a disingenuous explanation and not being fully forthcoming.
