is there a way to lock fps to 40?

You can’t lock it to a custom FPS without a third party application(not sure if Nvidia CP or CCC has those options).

I personally have Riva Tuner+MSI Afterburner installed which can lock the FPS at anything you want, on any game you want. Plus so much more.

Many thanks! it works with MSI!!

Well, for starters, posting your PC specs would be good.
Are your drivers up to date? Did it start after one of the driver updates/windows updates? Have you tried rolling back your video drivers? Are their newer drivers for your motherboard, specifically the ones that use your Ethernet port?
Have you cleaned your computer out recently with compressed air? Have you checked your CPU temperature? Can you download and run CPU-Z and GPU-Z and post the results? (For GPU-Z, the one that shows what video card you have and the slot it’s in).

WvW Kills and deaths

Looking over the server logic for when an entity dies, it’s roughly like this:

1. If the entity being killed was an NPC, stop.
2. Increment deaths for the killed entity’s team.
3. If the last hit on the killed entity was by an NPC, stop.
4. Increment kills for the last team to hit.

(okay, for a second I thought the problem was “kills are higher than deaths” which really threw me for a loop — that shouldn’t be possible).

Deaths are higher than kills likely caused when someone is killed by an NPC affiliated with a team (e.g., failed to solo a camp or ate SM lord’s meteor during a brawl), it’ll count as a death (since the NPC is team-affiliated) but not as a kill (since the last-hitter is not a player).

A player killing an NPC (team-affiliated or otherwise) definitely does not increment the deaths counter.

I’d love to see how some of you would respond if the same thing happened to you. Really, I would.

Good question. Hard to answer since it would depend on what my history with ANet CS was. If it was me, personally?

I’d laugh, submit a ticket, and get to the bottom of it- since it would be a total mystery.

If I were a hypothetical someone else, someone with a history of interactions with ANet CS, I might come to the forums and tell half or one-third of the story, ignore direct questions about whether I submitted a ticket or not, and attack people who pointed out any inconsistencies.

What’s the point of this thread? OP wants to point out corruption. Well duh, companies are made up of humans, and humans are not reliable generally speaking. Could be an honest mistake. Everybody else is like, contact customer support, else kittens.

Yep!!! funny how OP answers others after your question but won’t answer a simple question about support. As many others have suggested to submit a ticket. Seems to be more to the story as pointed out by the player who posted OPs history. Time to shut this down and if the OP truly wants help and assistance, use the support option. I see the thread has already been reported, so hopefully a mod will deal with it.

I don’t understand why people feel the need to interject their negativity. You can’t make a game look like a free to play generic crappy MMO because guess what…..its not.

Also, all you wing haters, just about anything can fit the lore in a magical world such as the GW2 universe. And why does Anet make wings? Hmm….gliding. Your toons can now fly, why not fly on wings. Its a natural progression and people like it. There are things I don’t like about the game too that I don’t whine about here.

So for the majority of people that do enjoy the wings. Yes. Backpack please.

BTW I have seen Golden Eagle wings in data-mined information, so you guys all have fun whining about that too. I’m going to go back to enjoying the game now.

Guild Wars 2, is a very CPU intensive game and therefor although your PC is capable of running many other games at high settings, you’ll be surprised to find even High end computers can easily get bogged down when it comes to running this game.

Hey thanks, that’s really informative. I’ll work on some different combinations of the settings you mentioned and see what happens!

Once again people seem to read a title and a last sentence, and nothing else.

Cable already addressed these points and nothing presented explains why on the SAME platform with BETTER graphics cards, the game is marginally improved and in some aspects arguably worse.

Quit regurgitating knee jerk responses.

We are all waiting your opinion about this matter.

What I’ve said makes perfect sense:
- He’s using settings very cpu taxing, which affect a lot the overall performance and minimize the impact of better gpu setup.
- If the game is cpu bottlenecked, getting a better gpu setup doesn’t improve things. You’re still cpu bottlenecked. SLI doesn’t scale that much because the same reason. As much gpus as you may have, they will still have to wait the cpu to render all his work. And if the computer keeps being cpu bottlenecked, a more powerful gpu setup will have less usage than the previous.
- With his cpu, each gpu is working on pcie 2.0 x8, which has the same bandwidth of 3.0 x4. Gw2 is very sensible about pcie speed.

Another story is you’re unable to understand it…

Very welcome Fundor.

http://gpuz.techpowerup.com/16/01/31/pwa.png

It should be correct O.o
in what we have to change? We have this problem only with GW2

Your GPU is also not going into its full x16 speed. Make sure its in the PCI-E slot closest to the CPU and re-seat it if you haven’t already.

are reaching it’s maximum capacity even while I’m writing here with nothing more open (except avast) – http://gpuz.techpowerup.com/16/01/31/52j.png

We need to see a screenshot like the others have provided, the main tab on GPU-Z with Gw2 running.

Took from the 2 tabs:

http://gpuz.techpowerup.com/16/01/31/ws7.png

http://gpuz.techpowerup.com/16/01/31/anq.png

Also, I opened and cleaned all my computer today, video card, processor, RAMs, etc… and it improved just a bit (arround 5 fps).
Now it’s arround 25 fps vecause I overcloded from 800 to 850MHz.

http://imgur.com/isGXoBD

Thanks in advance

Your GPU is running at x1 instead of x16, that will cause a massive fps issue. If during your cleaning you didn’t reseat your video card, or ensure it’s in the correct slot, you might want to try that.

Laptop Buying Guide

Behellagh.1468

Don’t.

Sorry but it’s like saying you want a vehicle to haul furniture but it has to be a roadster.

The notion of a gaming laptop is ludicrous in my opinion. Anything that’s decent would be large, heavy and have a battery life of an hour for gaming. That’s the exact opposite of what laptops are targeting, at least lightweight with a good battery life, which translates to a less powerful CPU and no discrete GPU, the opposite of what GW2 needs.

The next thing a potential buyer hamstrings himself is some equally ridiculously low price. I usually see “I want a $600 laptop that can play X at max settings”. And I wanted to be living on Mars by now but we don’t always get our pipe dreams.

That said, same rules apply for desktops as laptops. True quad core CPUs, Intel over AMD. On top of that, discrete GPU with GDDR5 memory rather than DDR3, faster spinning HD or an SSD. Notebookcheck is a site that ranks the myrid of laptop CPU and GPUs. Note that the desktop rule that i5 and i7 CPUs are true quad cores don’t apply for laptop CPUs. You will find what we would call a desktop i3, dual core with HT, as a low end laptop i7 CPU so look for the HQ/HK/MQ suffix on the CPU model. GW2 really runs better if you have more than two real cores.

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Processors-Benchmark-List.2436.0.html

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html

After limiting your picks to relatively recent quad cores and GPUs (GTX 960m and up) then price depends on amount of RAM, VRAM, size and resolution of display (as well as display technology), SSD included or not, backlit/mech switch keyboard, etc. I think ASUS and MSI are generally the good brands.

You could use a site like NewEgg to filter the wheat from the chaff to a relative short list. That you could investigate further. It’s just with the money you will be spending you could get a much nicer desktop setup.

First let me clear up a few mis-impressions:

No one goes through a review or an approval process in order to post here. No one. I think I recall that years ago a team member mentioned something about approvals, but I do not know what that was about. I can say, though, that as the lead of the forums team today (for the last 15 months) we don’t review or approve posts.

What we are sometimes asked to do it post on behalf of a team. You’ve probably seen me do that recently about game changes, a WvW Sneak Peek, etc.

Sometimes we’re asked to read through a post to see if it makes sense, if it answers the questions, if there are other items that could be included.

Sometimes, someone asks me to give a “word smith” review. (I was a professional editor long before I joined Anet. Editing is something I like to do, and a help I can offer my fellow team members.) This doesn’t involve approval, this simply involves clarity.

Posts can be made where the ArenaNet team member is comfortable posting. No one is required to post. No one is forbidden from posting. I agree with you that sometimes there is info “out there” that I’d like to see on the official forums. In cases where I’m aware of it, I’ll ask the dev if he/she could also post here, or if we could synopsize the external post to share it here. I think it works, for the most part: the team member can post wherever he/she wishes, and we’ll do our best to share info here. (In the case of the concerns in the OP, I agree with Baconomics that we did cover the topic here, and I think we did that even before it was present on reddit.)

It’s true that each forum can have heated moments. Heck, I had a neutral info post buried once. It’s wasn’t personal, and I bear no scars. The fact is, members didn’t like the message and used down votes to “shoot the messenger.” (It was sort of a shame because then the info wasn’t known, which was the whole point of posting, but ah well.)

We don’t have up and down voting here, but people speak their minds, and sometimes that becomes over the top. We want to use moderation in the true sense — in a moderate sense — so we’re not likely to smite every single negative post, and I’m sure you know that. Getting more harsh here to encourage devs to post here is an interesting idea, but I’m not certain it’s good for the community as a whole, nor for the forum atmosphere in general.

ArenaNet doesn’t want to adopt a “post here and only here” approach to communications. I hope you’ll understand and support the inclusiveness of our communicating as being more important than the medium on which something is said.

Edit: Fixing italics.

Ok .. first don’t start the client directly from the download page else you will
install into your temp-folder. So use “save as” and save it for example under
c:\games\gw2\gw2.exe
then create a shortcut to gw2.exe on your desktop and start it.
You may use the search function if you find gw2.dat still in your temp folder.
If so move it to where the exe is.

Second download GPU-z and check if your GPU runs @16x, if not reseating
mostly helps against contact problems.

@MrFayth.3546
You speak from your own perspective. Your claims are mostly a ‘’mythology ’’, since all what you have write is depending on your wallet in the first place. Not all people have rich parents or have at their disposal 1000 Euro to spend on a computer which would run new games for a longer time.

Are you serious? My computer was US$575 and will run games on at least high settings at 1080P/60FPS for years to come; as it is right now I can run most stuff on Ultra/max. It doesn’t take $1000+ to get a good gaming computer. Hell, you can outperform the consoles at their price point pretty handily these days, especially when you factor in the higher cost of console games and the fact that you need to pay for online (which is honestly laughable).

At the same time is the claim from Feirlista Xv.1425 false that people with AMD processors have problems with GW2. Some people have problems – difference.

AMD’s low performance in GW2 is well documented. Their CPUs lack the single-core performance to keep up with Intel CPUs in this game. This is a fact, it’s not some falso claim.

The same as some people with Pentium i series have problems in GW2, there gives many topics where Intel users complain about low frame rate,..

Yeah, because nothing can really maintain 60 FPS in this game. However, a decently clocked i5 can keep 25-30 pretty much everywhere while an FX-8350 can’t.

I use an Amd Fx processor, no problems with GW2, the same as you can check 100’s of videos on YouTube from people who use AMD processors and have no problems at all in GW2.

You may not find issure with the performance you’re getting but GW2 factually runs far worse then it “should” on AMD CPUs.

@Fermi.2409, This is the definition of what I wrote, not all have so much money to upgrade their pc’s every year.

Except you don’t need to upgrade your computer every year. If you get something roughly equivalent to the current consoles you’ll match/exceed their performance for years to come. If you really just want to run games for years to come, you can get away with something cheaper then that. If you want higher settings, you can still do that for <$600, especially on the used market.

The parts I suggested to the TC are enough to run GW2 pretty well (some slight issues in zergs but you really need an i5 to be all right there) and he’ll be <$200. That’s not even a lot of money for something like a computer that brings loads of entertainment value.

At the same time if he is thinking about to buy a new computer, rather buy Amd Fx series is cheaper as Pentium i series. you have youtube, check it for yourself what they offer for less money.

First off, what the kitten is a “Pentium i series”. That’s not a thing. Secondly, AMD’s CPUs are all right for what they are, but they really pale in comparison to what Intel offers. Even an FX-6300 is going to fall behind an OC’d Pentium G3258 :

http://anandtech.com/bench/product/699?vs=1265

G3258s love overclocking; 4.5 GHz is easy (my brother got 4.8GHz on an MSI H81M-E33 ffs) and due to linear gains from OCing it’ll beat out that FX-6300 in multithreaded performance while having a MASSIVE edge in singlethreaded performance, which GW2 requires to run. A more fair comparison, with a cheaper quad-core AMD CPU just pushes things further in the Pentium’s favor.

AMD has a place when using heavily multithreaded apps and/or if you don’t really want to overclock (which is ridiculous, you’re just missing out on loads of free performance), but when it comes to a low-cost computer Intel flies ahead, especially for stuff like GW2 that require good single-threaded performance.

It honestly makes me a bit sad. I’m a huge AMD fan and would’ve loved to pick up one of their CPUs but they really just can’t compete with an i5, especially when I got mine+the motherboard for $200.

Finally, instead of telling me to “go see what AMD has” with youtube or whatever, maybe you should look up some benchmarks yourself instead of trying to infrom people from a position of ignorance.

For video card, you can get an nVidia 750gtx pretty cheap these days (Probably about $100usd) which I think would more than suit your needs. If you dig around you might still find some 500 or 600 series cards around for marginally cheaper, but I’d stick model 50 or better if you can swing it. So 550, 650, 750, etc. With the motherboard, it probably has a PCIe 2.0 slot (But you may want to confirm this), which according to Tom’s Hardware is fine for a PCIe 3.0 card.

Yeah, PCI2.0 16x is fine for current cards, especially something that TC would be looking at on a budget. That being said, while the 750ti is a good buy at $100 new (and I think it’s even been much lower), when you’re looking to spend as little as possible you really should go on the used market; ~$60-65 should buy you a used 7850, which outperforms a 750ti. If the TC did want to spend $100 on a card, you can get something like a 7950 for $90-100 which would handily beat a 750ti.

because GW2 is a 32 bit application and can only access up to 3.5GB of ram total. That is why.

Then maybe Anet should focus on optimization and lower memory usage so we can play the game the way it is ment to be played?

I think the point you are completely missing here is, the Game client is as its going to be for a while. I doubt we will see an upgraded client anytime soon (if ever) and we all must make adjustments to compensate its short comings.

It’s the same in my book as topics like …

Except it’s not. Those are much more involved fixes which would required huge portions of the game to be recoded (except the GPU one, that’s never really going to be an issue) while adding more UI scaling options is much easier.

They are all hardware issues that players believe that the software should automagically support because they upgraded.

How many “GW2 uses a single core” or “why doesn’t my 8 core FX run better” or “my new $300 video card doesn’t make a difference” threads have you seen in the forums over the years Fermi?

This is just another “I upgraded my hardware so why doesn’t the game support it well thread”. Nobody want reasons, they want the money they spent to do something because they wrongly thought it would make a difference.

And in this case it’s not like it breaks the game. If the UI is too small at 4K, run it at 1080p for now and ask nicely. But do realize that this isn’t commonplace yet.

We are heroes. This is what we do!

Behellagh.1468

This is just like the threads on Dx11/12/Mantle/Vulkan/VR Headset, just because it’s the latest tech doesn’t mean it automatically becomes a priority to adopt and/or support.

There’s a huge difference between UI scaling and asking for all of that much more complicated crap.

Perhaps.

But when they were developing the game, they might have never considered resolutions beyond 1920×1080/1200 for a single display then it’s still a request driven by new hardware.

They didn’t think about it…. that’s why the option for that resolution is there right? facedesk

And for the billionth time, this isn’t bleeding edge, a year ago nvidia and amd brought out the technology to scale 4k on a 1080p monitor, 4k was out before that. You have no proof besides your steam numbers, which doesn’t include things like ubisoft games using uplay, or ea’s origin, and even if its only 1% of the people on steam there are 125 million people on steam, that means over 1 million people are using 4k, plus however many on other services that aren’t reported.

The option is there because that resolution is supported by the driver and your monitor. ANet didn’t code that other than request a list of available resolutions for your setup.

So one of every 56 people on the planet are on Steam? Impressive.

Agreed, Steam doesn’t represent everyone but it is one with a public face of hardware connected to it. And using Steam doesn’t mean those systems aren’t also using those services you mention, they aren’t mutually exclusive. Also the survey is opt-in. And the results may be skewed by spare/hand me down hardware still active but are no longer the primary rig. It also doesn’t divide laptops from desktops explicitly. But it’s better than pulling numbers out of the air.

And I’ve acknowledge the driver updates that fake out the resolution of the monitor to a game, however the option only shows up on the current generations of hardware. Not everyone upgrade their rig every year.

The only people who have hard numbers of what resolutions that players are running at ANet.

Now wouldn’t it make sense that if it’s as widely adopted and so easy to fix, as some armchair developers claim, that it would have been an low hanging QoL feature they would have tossed in? These are the kind of features developers love to give customers because the work required is minimal and straightforward and the praise is high.

And let me get back to another point you made.

I am using a 4k 60 inch tv that I paid $900 for.

My 980ti struggles at times …

So me and others gamers should be penalized because you can’t afford 4k?

Taken together, with over $1500 devoted to just the video side of your rig while believing you are being penalized because ANet doesn’t cater to 4K players like you is the epitome of entitlement. How dare ANet not cater to your needs over all those mundanes who can’t afford a tiny God rig. That attitude riles me.

All I’ve ever council in this thread patience and understand as to why this isn’t on the top of their to do list yet. Yet I get accused for not wanting it. For telling people to stop asking for it. That I’m a tech Luddite. And worse.

But a consolidated thread asking for something than shotgunning a handful of threads where the same people cross post. And it doesn’t hurt to use a little sugar rather than the attitude.

We are heroes. This is what we do!

The retailer you bought from was simply not authorized and probably got the key in an illegal way.

The above is the kernel that everyone needs to know. A large number of the codes that are resold by unauthorized resellers are fraudulent. Naturally, ArenaNet cannot give you a refund — they did not receive the money. They cannot give you a free game — that’s just bad business.

The buyer must beware. Authorized partners do have sales, so watch for those. Or, if you decide to take a chance, please please have a realistic view of the situation, and do not blame ArenaNet for the shady actions of an unrelated business.

Thanks Gaile, you are the first to respond on this problem.

While we were unaware that we bought keys from an unauthorized retailer, I think most of us accepts that the key is rejected and most of us got or will get a refund from these retailers.
Our original core game however had a good key. We spends lots of time building it up and now it is also suspended. This should be given back. I am sure most of us are willing to buy HOT in game once we can go back to playing.

And in 99.9% of cases, access to the core game will be given back, once you contact CS and discuss the matter with them. No worries — it’s not a “ban” but a suspension pending the outcome of the review that you request.

Oh, I want to also address the “We’re not going to talk about this any more.” I talked to the team lead and he agreed that was not the message we should be sending. The message itself is not the one we want used. So while the outcome will be fine regardless of the way it was communicated, the way to get there was a bit less informative and friendly than it could be.

Apologies for any inconvenience or upset that this matter caused you. I “get” that we need to prevent RMT from making inroads, and I believe the CS Team will be making changes to handle this in a more straightforward manner.
