They need to take each and every class and break them down into a simple equation based around an average damage number. If 2000 damage is what you want the average ability to hit for, then players who hit for 4000, should have their defensive abilities cut in half. If they hit for 1000, they should have twice the defense.
The current state of the game is broken because so many classes are able to deal double the damage and keep their defense. The reason Elementalist seem broke, is because they are the only class that follows the equation I mentioned.
Another tip I have found when using the RTL and Updraft combo, do not hit the updraft until after RTL is completed. There are too many times where RTL will lag out for 2 seconds after you get to your target and then Updraft is wasted on nothing. Always make sure your RTL is completed and you can move your character again before using Updraft.
Dying 5-10x a match is pretty bad. I normally die 1x a match, depending on how ballsy I get rushing a 3v1. PM me if you want a fun build to try out as a d/d.
You should look into sPvP Tournaments. They are exactly what you are requesting and already in the game.
I think it should have a 2 second cooldown, land instantly, have a 2 second daze, and cause more aoe damage.
Currently, Elementalist do not have 1 skill they can spam to win and this is unbalanced.
I thought all AoE abilities could only hit 5 targets at once. If this is not the case, then I could see me switching back to staff. Until then, my Great sword fills the gap when I need AoE damage for a minute.
Churning Earth + Lightning Flash + Earthquake
I did use Earth for DoT stacks. I am not saying it is the most efficient means to level, but it worked for me and I had fun doing it. I could also safely rush into events and pull agro, which it seems Elementalist do without doing a ton of damage, without worrying about getting killed in 2 seconds.
If you want to talk about the real bug with Mist, I cannot jump off a mile high cliff and survive. I still take damage from falling in Mist form!
Tip 1. DON’T !
Tip 2. DON’T !
Tip 3. DON’T !
Ignore this guy. Elementalist are very powerful when played right. They are probably the highest level of difficulty with the most options and because of this, many people gave up and went Thief.
All of the weapons are great for leveling, just go with what you feel works best. For me, I liked Sceptre and Dagger for leveling with the Sigil for 25 stacks of extra condition damage. I spent most of my time in Earth attunement stacking mobs with dots and then aoeing them down. I was always a fan of condition damage though. Other Elementalist prefer the burst damage.
Leveling in this game is really easy though. I don’t think any build will speed it up or slow you down much, unless you die a lot. Most your experience comes from events, unless you decide to craft to 80 by buying gold.
I didn’t think about the consequences to the sPvP environment if more and more people began to play games to farm Glory. That would be a down side, but I would still like to have more options for Glory.
I switched servers a couple of days, because the queues on JQ were obnoxious and prevented me from playing a couple of hours of WvW every day. During this time, I was left with the choice of sPvP or PvE content while waiting. I chose sPvP to get better at PvP for WvW. This was my decision, and I see now I traded gear for skill. I am happy with my decision and in time I will have the gear to match the skill I earned.
See you guys on the battlefield.
Welcome to Guild Wars, not Gear Wars, where everyone is at equal footing.
Except for the people who have farmed a ton of PvE content for badges and Karma, they have a huge advantage in PvP.
I was just curious if there was some form of reward that is useful for other aspects of the game, for my time spent doing sPvP. It seems I am the minority here, but I would much rather have a WvW full of people who earned their gear doing PvP than people who earned it through PvE grinds.
D/D or S/D survival build. I sometimes switch to Sceptre for the dragon tooth harassment on keeps.
This build allows you to provide good cc, support, survival, and decent dps. Multiple ways to escape a bad situation.
My favorite combo – Start a churning Earth – Teleport onto a group of players – Earthquake – Fire attunement – Burning speed – Ring of Fire -Fire Grab – Lightning attunement – Updraft.
If you want to be extra safe, you can do all of this with Armor of Earth up.
I like the Fiery Greatsword because the dps lacks, and there are times that you get a chance to safely dish out damage. It also provides a great escape tool in Fiery Whirl on a 5 second cooldown. But there are times I use Tornado to cap a point instead.
Ether Renewal is probably the most under rated skill in the game, considering it ticks 12 times in 6 seconds. Combine it with one of your cantrips in a bad situation for a free escape.
Because of the internal cooldown of 10 seconds, which can block some other item cooldowns as well, Strength has been proven to be a far superior sigil for stacking Might.
I find that our elites are great for what they are, conditional abilities. Tornado is currently my favorite, but that is because I play with a team. When you can punt everyone around you down to the ground constantly, your team can easily dominate larger numbers.
The pets are fun, but I have found them to be less useful.
Conjure Fiery Greatsword is also very powerful and a great tool for dishing out high damage while having awesome maneuvering and chase down abilities. I love using this with a boon build because I can switch attunements constantly and keep the sword going. If you get low on health, you can switch to water for heals, earth and lightning for knockdowns, and then pick up your second sword fore more fun.
My guess would be that you can only have one bonus. I had the condition one on my sceptre and dagger and would get 2 for every kill. So they work on both weapons.
How is farming Glory easier than farming Karma or Tokens? They are all easy to get, some easier depending on your class.
Explain this statement to me, “Even if you could use glory to buy WvW gear, it would mean nothing, because you’d have to sPvP to get glory.” Are you saying that time spent running sPvP is worthless, so the rewards should be worthless?
Your use of the word “effort” is not properly being used. The only “effort” in farming Karma is time spent. So what I am asking is, “Why not allow players the option to use Glory instead of Karma to purchase gear?” Glory is earned through the same “effort” as Karma.
I like to PvP, but I am forced to PvE in order to compete in WvW PvP? I don’t have the patience anymore to repeat the same event/instance 500x for gear. I feel as though I am being held back in WvW because I prefer to PvP and not PvE.
How about an option to use either Glory or Karma for gear? I would much rather spend 30 hours running scenarios than 15 hours farming Orr, as long as the gear options were similar.
Can you not use the WvW gained karma / those tokens you get from it (I dont remember off top of my head) to buy gear in WvW? You can get gear from WvW… Spend your karma. Sell items that you pick up from kills. Spend your trophies.
You get the most Karma in WvW from doing the PvE events. This distracts from the actual WvW purpose, which is taking and controlling keeps. Because of Karma in WvW, you get larger queues of players who are going in there specifically for the PvE. Remove Karma from WvW and change all of the gear to be Glory. Two birds, one stone.
Its time for you to leave gearcheck mountain and to enter skill valley.
So gearcheck mountain is WvW and Skill valley is sPvP? I totally agree. But I get bored of running the same 4 capture the point over and over, and my time spent doing them should offer similar rewards to someone who spent that time farming instances.
It just makes more sense that PvP rewards come from PvP and PvE rewards come from PvE. WvW and sPvP = PvP.
WvW is not a PvE environment, so why does it require a PvE grind to be competitive? That is my only concern with the game. I do not like PvE beyond running everything once and doing the story. Why am I being forced to run PvE over and over in order to get gear for WvW?
We should have different options on how we get our gear, and one of them should be through PvP.
I have asked around my world and I have searched these forums and google, but I am still unable to find a purpose for Glory.
I was under the impression that Glory was to be used to purchase PvP gear, but then I realised it is only used to by new skins for sPvP gear. Hopefully, I am completely wrong and just cannot find the proper information, but I would like to clarify what I know.
There is currently only 1 way to get new gear for WvW PvP and that is through PvE content. Is this a correct statement? If so, does anyone else find this bad design?
Hopefully, the experience anet has will result in a quick fix to the current problem with a couple classes being insanely OP. Thieves make up roughly 50% of all classes in scenarios. If you level up a new character, you will notice they make up even more of classes you will see being leveled.
Given another couple of weeks, Thieves will be complaining about other Thieves, since that is all they will see in sPvP.
