I remember fighting Spectres for experience in Oasis from level 35-40. Then I found about the Dwarves in Butcher Block. Not sure what they have to do with Lightning Arc though.

-Ether Renewal nerf
- Vapor form fix so the HP doesn’t reset when it’s over.
- some buffs to conjured weapons
-some bugfixes
That’s what im expecting but I hope we will get some buff in other areas and hopefully small changes in fire and earth traits.

Are other Elementalist finally starting to use Ether Renewal? I gave up trying to explain why it was so dominant in PvP with Cantrips a couple months ago. I have been running d/d since a couple weeks after the game came out and at the time everyone on these forums thought Staff was the only weapon for PvP.

I look forward to any changes, because running the same build is getting old. The problem is, I don’t run the Cookie Cutter 0-10-0-30-30 so I probably won’t be effected by the nerf to the arcane line.

I still recommend sceptre/dagger for leveling, but that is because I hated dying. Elementalist are the softest class in the game, so being at point blank without great gear, hurts.

I wouldn’t bother practicing with D/D until you are 80 and in at least full yellows with 1500 toughness or more. The game really is different once you have all of your traits and a full suit of yellow or better level 80 gear.

Logon with all your alts and get portaled up to the JP finish. Bam, 75 badges in less than 10 minutes. Actually fighting for badges is inefficient.

Ran around a couple nights ago with friend doing a bunch of 2v3+ and we got a bag drop every few people and and badges every 10 or so kills. What I did notice though, is that everytime I got badges, he got badges. If I got 2, he got 2.

Not sure why there is a difference, but it would be nice to see them both at 10 seconds. This game does not have enough group buffs, and weakening one of the few group buffs would be a step in the wrong direction.

I agree. I am an Elementalist and I have used Mist Form to stomp players in the middle of a group of their teamates.

They should also remove the haste buff from working on stomp, because getting stomped in 1 second sucks.

How to recover from Thief stealth

Stealth in this game doesn’t make the profession invulnerable to damages as in other games. I am playing S/D thief. Countless times, I spammed AOE around the stealth spot by spamming #1 sword skill. Few seconds later I found my fellow enemy thief on the ground, gasping for air.

I have never seen a game where stealth made you immune to damage. This is the only game where receiving damage while stealthed, didn’t break stealth though.

Here are a few possible fixes to stealth:

- Make it only available when out of combat
- Make it break when a thief receives damage
- Thieves take double damage while stealthed

Implement any one of these changes and I think stealth would be much more balanced.

I didn’t like D/D leveling up, because you don’t get an XP bonus for taking longer to kill things.

Most of what you do leveling up will be 1-2 mobs, sometimes 3 at a time. For this, I found S/D to be the best (stacked condition), because I could throw a couple of stacks of the stone shards on each mob and then do a churning earth before moving on to the next set of mobs. Sometimes using the Dragon’s Tooth and Phoenix if Churning is still down.

D/D is about slow dps with the ability to survive a long time, not what you want when leveling up.

Weapon Swaps - How To Balance It

They need to add the extra equipment slot for a second set of weapons, but only allow us to switch when out of combat. This is similar to what most good players are already doing, but without a hotkey, which is irritating.

We need to make this a priority for the Elementalist community, because many people stick to one weapon for all situations and think Elementalist are weak.

This game does not have huge healing numbers and most of your heals will come from regeneration over time. This is why Toughness is so important, it makes those heals that much more valuable.

I have all of the Power/Toughness/Vitality orange gear from AC and my jewelry/trinkets are all of the Power/Toughness/Vitality yellow gear, something like knight’s with the gem that gives the same stats.

Rune of the Forge for my 6 piece bonus and the Sigil that gives 5% damage and the Sigil that gives 3 stacks of might when you attune.

I am at work right now and I never check the forums from home, so I know I won’t get back to you with the exact name of everything, sorry.

If you are only at 15500, you probably have no vitality on your 6 pieces of Jewelry, which should put you above 4500+ health combined.

D/D Elementalist is probably the best tank in the game atm, even more-so then even guardian.

It really depends on the gear and the build, but I tank for all of my groups. Not sure how, but I pull agro over everyone and their dps builds.

Power/Toughness/Vitality gear in every slot. 22,000+ health, 2900+ armor.

Build is 0-10-20-30-10

As for suicide bombing in WvW, this is my favorite aspect of playing an Elementalist. When fighting an open battle, you RTL in, throw up a shocking aura, updraft, Earth Armor Cantrip > Fire Attunement, Burning Speed, Ring of Fire, Fire Grab >Earth Attunement, Earthquake, Churning Earth, Ring of Earth > Water attunement, Frost Aura, dance around as long as possible then Vapor, Ether Renewal, Flash to safety.

I do a similar move when defending a keep by jumping down and forcing 20+ players to chase me. Not sure why, but people always chase way too far and then leave too few on the keep.

Just to clarify, you guys are all using Staff for keep sieges, right? D/D with the 0/10/20/30/10 build is amazing for everything else, but go staff with this same build for sieges and watch as those defenders kill themselves on all of the reflected damage. Good times.

Get good at switching weapons when out of combat and you will see just how amazing an elementalist can be for ALL situations.

I run the same build but with Ether Renewal and Earth Armor over the Arcane Wave. Also, not sure if it is a human trait, but the elite that does an aoe chill/poison is awesome for when you are leading a charge.

I use nothing but the Power/Toughness/Vitality gear. I am currently using Runes of the Earth, but saving up for Runes of the Forge (they are a pretty similar set).

I have been running this build for a couple of months and every one I run around with is amazed at how long I can keep 10+ people occupied. Every other build seems boring after playing this one.

I really recommend you try Ether Renewal for the survival it gives you when you need to make a quick escape, removing snares and roots while in Mist form.

Is it my imagination? Snares/roots...

Lightning Flash breaks root for me, at least the ranger root with the vines that I cannot hit half the time because they appear 5 feet behind me. The other roots I break with Ether Renewal or Water Attunement trait to remove condition.

You have a very similar play style to me, with the lack of huge burst but the ability to survive through other’s burst and win the long battle.

Have you tried Ether Renewal? I have heard plenty of people talk bad about it, but I find it to be very powerful, especially when combined with your Cantrips.

I bound Glyph of Renewal to “F” for fasting revive of downed allies. It takes about 3 seconds to bring someone up this way.

Oh wait, that’s just the standard revive button.

Aura build question

With a full suit of Superior Rune of the Earth will the 6 piece bonus work with the Powerful Aura trait to give the buff to players around me?

I currently combine Powerful Aura with Zephyr’s Boon and Elemental Shielding to give players around me Swiftness, Fury, and Protection as well. Because these all combine and work together, I would think the Rune proc would do the same, but it is not something that I can easily test.

Thank you to whoever might know the answer to this.

30 dungeon runs at 30 minutes each to get a full set of the best gear possible. Sounds like easy mode to me. You get a new piece of gear every 2 hours, that’s awesome!

Compare this game to it’s predecessors and you will have a point of reference to understand just how easy GW2 has made it.

I disagree with everything you are saying. I am curious what games you have played in the past “decade”, because Everquest, DAoC, AC, WoW, AoC, Warhammer, etc.. all had more bugs, more grind, more repetitive worthless elite trash spawns, less reward, and less end game options than the dungeons in GW2.

As someone who has been playing since the MUD days, GW2 is definitely an evolutionary step in the right direction for MMO’s in both PvP and PvE.

Too many haters in here. What you did is impressive and I am willing to bet 99% of the people playing this game couldn’t do it. The problem is, those 99% probably don’t spend all day on the forums, like the 1% who are trying to take credit from you.

You should try it again with 5 and see if you can do it in under 10 minutes, just for a new challenge.

I have never had a problem just going to the nearest Waypoint to the dungeon and doing a /say [level][class] LFG [dungeon]. So far, nothing has taken longer than 5 minutes to join. Sure the groups are not always the best, but who wants to record an expert group stomping all of the content with full legendaries?

I am loving my human racials, but that is because of my play style. I am a d/d spec initiator who is all about my AoE crowd control.

Reaper of Grenth is great because it does not prevent me from using any other skills, it just adds a nice chill/poison tick to everyone around me for 15 seconds.

Avatar of Melandru is insanely powerful, especially when fighting in WvW against 5-10 people. The trick is to not stand around as the Avatar after you have fired off your 3 usefull skills. RTL into a group, throw up aoe aura, switch to earth and knockdown, cast avatar, hit your aoe root, aoe toughness buff, healing spring. Cancel out of avatar and dominate.

I play as a group player, so my entire spec and play style is focused around what helps my group win.

You got lucky he didn’t crit on the steal or CD, because that should have been closer to 23k. Even with 2800 armor, they hit for 19k when that combo crits, but what was your armor to get hit for 13.4k from backstab?

I agree. My favorite part of Warhammer was that I could level up my character doing competitive PvP. Leveling up in WvW makes me feel like a leach, so I would much rather do it while earning some rank.

I am almost positive that vengeance does not let the Warrior pop up if he kills his opponent. Once the timer runs out on Vengeance, the Warrior dies permanently. Not hard to just avoid them for 15 seconds.

Keep Commander, but allow Commanders to run for Captain. This way only the top 3 Commanders in each world can earn this position and they are voted on by the players. I know for kitten sure the people I would not vote for on JQ.

I believe the jump issue is due to the lack of a fall damage reduction for the profession and not the HP. But yes, the profession has the lowest base defense stats.

Which is made up for with our amazing offense and the best burst damage in the game…

Elementalists are easy to fix. Do it!

I figured out how to get optimal damage out of my Elementalist, but it cost a good amount of money.

Be in charge of the siege weapons. I am pretty sure this is what we are meant to do. Bunker build and siege weapons.

I use both, as well as flash combined with Ether Renewal. I die maybe once every 3 games in sPvP and can go hours in WvW without dying. D/D spec who loves to initiate but knows when to leave the fight.

Orbs will be removed from WvW in an upcoming build.

I think the real problem is that they made getting badges of honor required for legendaries, seeing I hate pvp I just run the jumping puzzle nacked to get the badges without having to fight anyone, and I know I’m taking up slots of people that actually want to help and contribute but I’m just making the most of the system Anet set up… if I didn’t need the badges I wouldn’t be there.

Why do you need the badges? Power/Toughness/Vitality Gear for your PvE? You could run Ascalonian 20x for this gear anyway. Your argument has too many holes.

Remove all PvE from WvW.

Someone explain to me why I should waste my gold on siege weapons for WvW primetime, when all of the points are earned when most of us are sleeping?

They need better rewards for WvW and the badge system is garbage for risk vs reward. I could run Ascalonian for 8 hours and get the same gear that would take 200 hours of WvW.

If you are going to cap AoE damage, then you must cap AoE heals and buffs. Set heals and buffs to be group first then nearest players next. Make the shield reflect a set amount of ranged attacks, not every ranged attack for x seconds. This makes it better in small combat, but worse for turtling.

Quit complaining about staff combos. IMO, Staff has too many combos in comparison to the other weapon choices.

Badges need to drop about 5x more often and preferably as a reward similar to Karma, that doesn’t have to be looted and doesn’t take up inventory.

Currently, i could run Ascalonian 3x in about 2 hours and get the same stat gear that would otherwise take 260 badges.

As for all of the PvE stuff in Battlegrounds; get rid of it.

Um the 100% crit sigil gets uses up by our minor traits (i.e. deal damage when attuning to air, aoe damage when attuning to earth, etc.). So it’s pretty useless.

That would be interesting, but I mainly use it with Fire for the opening crit on my combo. Thanks for the info though, I will try and pay attention to this later. If only this game had a decent combat log to view.
