I would have designed it so that starter zones reward more karma, less loot and less gold. The mid zones reward less karma, more loot and less gold. The high zones reward less karma, less loot and more gold.

I think this is an ingenious solution and could help get people back into lower level areas.

Another incentive to go back to all areas of the world would be the events. Anet creates a series of events spanning a path from low level zones to the high level zones. The series is split into phases, where each phase begins and ends in a zone, and gives you a one time reward. Each phase is split into several events, giving you DR rewards that eventually reward nothing. Each phase and their events are reset back to normal rewards once you progess through the entire series. In short, it’s like doing a repeatable personal story again but without the cutscenes. Every couple of months the release another series spanning different areas of the world. All areas eventually get covered and populated with players. The entire world of Tyria becomes a dungeon.

However, I don’t think Anet wants to treat the entire world of Tyria as the one instance everyone logs into. They have all the hooks in place to do so, but I think they’re regressing backwards toward the old mmo models. They have their reasons. Another developer will come along implement it in time.

Anyone coming in to the game later is getting a less amazing experience IMHO.
.

And the mmorpg solution for the last decade has been to make it easier to get to L80. Because that’s where the real game begins.

BAAHAHAHAHAH! You’re joking right?

Waitwut, did I just get trolled?

At L80, you have all your traits unlocked, you probably have all your skills and weapons, (aka spells), unlocked, and you’re free to grind for gear to complement your build. You’re free to grind for gear to complement your build. That’s pretty much all you do to progress your character. At any time, you could skip that progression and go into WvWvW, but your character will always be subpar when competing against an equally skilled player or group. Over time, the gap between those that have progressed to a certain power level, is so large that it is in Anet’s best interest to make the process for incoming players faster. I stand by what I said, the game begins at L80. When Anet bumps this to L90 or L100, those that remain will power level via the zerg and spend the majority of the time at that level.

I agree, that they need to do a MAJOR content/goal overhaul in the open world. They have an amazing gmae world no one plays in because it’s not “end-game” oriented. they need to find a way to get players back into the world & playing the content instead of doing dungeons..

It begs the question, why even design a huge game world if no one ever populates it? When I left World of Warcraft it had degenerated into a lobby game. You would queue up to login to the game, just to queue up to log into an instance. But it took that game years to get to that state. It’s taken this game months.

The ship has sailed. The game begins at level 80. Skip everything that impedes your progression.

Well, we’re finding out that their goal to make the entire world of Tyria the “endgame” has failed.

In my opinion, they should have made the rewards for players scale with level. So going back to the starter zones would reward players with higher levels. I would have designed it so that starter zones reward more karma, less loot and less gold. The mid zones reward less karma, more loot and less gold. The high zones reward less karma, less loot and more gold. Then instead of adding dungeons, i would have added a series of events, split into phases, that begin in the starter zones, progress through the midzones and finish in the high level zones. Finishing each phase gives you more of a reward, and reset when you finish the series. This would cycle players through all areas of the world.

They’ve chosen, probably because of player demand, to corral everyone into L80 instances, splitting the player base. So yeah, they failed. But, the players are partially to blame for not demanding that Anet make the world the endgame and Anet is partially to blame for not properly rewarding higher level players.

Teleporting gatherer bots

I’ve seen 3 different kinds of teleport bots. The 1st kind teleports to a node to farm it. The 2nd kind teleports to a point of interest for the xp. The 3rd kind teleports to a waypoint for xp. I’m sure these bots teleport to vistas for xp as well but I haven’t seen any yet. The 2nd and 3rd are practically impossible for a player to report.

A new players view of the game.

It may seem casual when you first start playing the game, but at L80, it becomes a massive grind to accomplish anything. Also, I too grouped with lots of people in the earlier zones, it was incredibly fun. As you level up, the zones become empty. The last zones are a pain in the kitten because of this. Some events in these areas are bugged and hardly ever work. I don’t ever wanna go back to Malchor’s Leap and I can’t wait to get out of Cursed shore. I’d level my alts but just thinking of hitting the high levels is too discouraging.

People are farming fractals for all they’re worth, and they are worth a ton. With gold you can rake in, you can just save up and buy your legendaries.

It’s borderline exploiting…

…and with all the actual exploiting that can currently be done in fractals people are plowing through them as fast as they can before the exploits get fixed.

Well if this is the case then I’ll put a stop to it. How? Simple. I’ll just start running fractals for the gold. Think of me like George Costanza. I can’t possibly win.

Gates of Madness is barren. Even the starter zones are empty. I feel like a playing a single player game at times.
