Has Guild Wars lost its way?

I’m not saying my issues raised are the biggest examples, they are just the most current I could think of.

To marnick.4305 I’m not sure if you remember the manifesto… but there was a line “In most games you have really fun tasks to do occasionally and then these really boring tasks to do…”

Can you honestly say that the rest of the people posting on the forum are saying moa racing was fun, some did enjoy it others said it’s pointless rng. Then dragon bashing and cannon firing, is that really fun.

I’ve been thinking that Guild Wars 2 has lost its way.

I listen to the GW2 manifesto, but I do not see any of that being extended on in the game today.

Two issues to clarify my point

1. Moa racing – is having gambling tied to achievement in line with the manifesto?

2. Dragon bashing and cannon firing, how is walking around a town pressing “F” 300 times for an achievement a positive extension of the manifesto?

I hope you can get back on track.

If there is a change in direction please issue a new manifesto to clear the air.

The problem with circling

The dynamic combat system is very refreshing and timing your evades and leaping about makes some fights truly epic.

I would suggest an improvement in circling, it can be used by any profession to round up a large number of monsters and by simply circling around them you evade most of their attacks. I know squat all about programming, but it seems like a large task to allow monsters attack diagonally or even swivel in place faster, and aiming faster would have a lot of negative consequences.

Would a solution be as simple of giving all monsters 1 skill that is a closer like “Savage Leap”. This way circling is still effective but not as simple of round them up and hack away unhindered.

I second account bound and would love to see them have the damage set to your character level, like in GW1. It would be totally epic to see a level 3 warrior running around with eternity. You made the item to show off (although powerful they are essentially a cosmetic item), why stop people showing off.

Vertical Progression

Rather than write another post flaming ANET for going against their manifesto, I figured this could be constructive to help them stop vertical progression of all forms and give them some better reward ideas.

Because we all know vertical progression is bullkitten and it doesn’t reward players at all why;

1. If you are level 45 fighting a level 45 bad guy the fight is just as hard as your level 80 epic geared toon fighting a level 80 bad guy, all that changes is the numbers you hit each other for.
2. Rewarding players with better gear so they can “survive the harder battles” just keeps the difficulty level static.

So here are some positive ideas that can be used in the next non-vertical expansion;
• Bad guys use evade/dodge more
• Bad guys get better gear (but players don’t)
• Bad guys get more levels (but players don’t)
• Bad guys skills recharge faster
• Bad guys utilize elite skills or use multiple elite skills
• Better AI and positioning for bad guys (i.e. duck behind things/run for support)
• Balanced mobs (i.e. a mob of 5 bad guys with a mix of ranged, melee and classes)
• Higher attack speed for bad guys
• Faster combat movement speed for bad guys
• Bad guys using combos to waste players (i.e. we have to think about kill order)
• Add in different combat mechanics; flying combat, mounted combat, etc.
• GW1 had hard mode… awesome idea, why not do that again

• Reward players with titles
• Reward players with more flags like the commander one currently in the game
• Reward players with special abilities like using way points for free
• Reward players with better salvage kits, etc.
• Reward players with aura’s so they truly stand out when they walk around
• Reward players with parallel skills that have different visual/massive visual effects

Hope that gets the ball rolling because I don’t want to play a game where it’s more of the same, just with different numbers…

Guild System Improvements

Can we get a timeline on the fixes, please?

This game is called “Guild Wars” but guild management/functionality is really poor.

Never do a "one time only" event again.

How can you foster a gaming community when you deliberately exclude part of that community, some of us are casual gamers sorry we’re not elite enough to enjoy all aspects of them game.

Lornar’s Pass – Defeat Captain Jetsam (group event)

I did this with a shortbow and a bear… I didn’t need to heal very often and just stood there and the captain became my pin cushion. Ranger pets are cool but not when they mean you can take on a group event solo and not struggle.

Not sure if it is a bug because I was 10 levels above the area and although I scaled down maybe my pet didn’t.

Broken event

Yes I have noticed the same thing, DE stopping half way through stuck at the start or at the end… here are the details of one broken event.

World: Devona’s Rest
Location: Caledon Forest
Map Location: Morgan’s Spiral
Event : Morgan’s Leap

The tree has been dead for days now, counting up to 5 so far. The NPC Brugh is standing at the dead tree. It appears that the DE occurred and was failed and has not been reset. I have gone back to Caer Verdant and Brugh is not there. When I talk to Brugh the dialog is
“Brugh: Be on your guard in these parts, friend. There is a growing darkness here; I felt it in the Dream. Now I’m on a Wyld Hunt to protect these lands.”
