Typical PvE soloing battle sequence?

To me, attunement swapping is the core play of the elementalist, and so I advise 30 arcane in all builds. But that’s just me. I take Elemental Attunement, Vigor on crit and Evasive arcana. Take some food at increases boon duration (like chocholate omnomberry cream) and your boons stay 50% longer. And with this, one of my best heals is dodging in my own gyser, gives area healing while evading.

Now for the sequence:
Gather melee mobs, up to ten is doable, and then:

Frozen ground (get some distance)
Ice spike (vulnarbility)
Glyph of storms in earth (ten seconds AoE blind)
Eruption
Lava Font
Arcnae wave
Flame burst
=> pick up loot

There isn’t a single mob in general pve that survives this sequence, not even in Orr. Veterans will be half dead. you can pull it off in five seconds.

Ranged mobs? Well usually they stand still so place your spells under them. And use your reflection skill in earth, your blind in air.

Final advise: Get a Razer Naga or something, I hardly ever auto attack in combat so i’m always pressing buttons. The Naga lets me do that while on the move and dodging.

We need Outward Scaling, not just Upward.

I would love it, and I think most people who read the forums would love it to. But I’m not sure of all the players who just don’t think that much and like the simplicity of the zerg.

Maybe the start can be in some new maps, that have the difficulty of an explorable dungeon. And start with a beta fase for these maps.

In PvE I can do it all actually, with the staff. Explorable dungeons, farming eight mobs, killing veterans before they reach me, solo all the skill challenges, … With one other good guy, I can kill champions. With two others, everything is possible except the Meta events.

Level 80 pve and my staff elementalist plays like a dream. I can kill faster then my level 80 ranger.

And don’t forget that you can heal your elementals. But I would like to be able to control them, like a ranger with his pet.

Tornado always gets me killed,

Fiery greatsword, I have never used it in a fight before. I like my 20 weapon abbilities, that’s why I play the profession in the first place.

Whirlpool is still good, though slow and difficult to position.

20-25 seconds? I take out a veteran in that time, using the staff!

Please, tell me you attunement swap!?!?

Or if it’s really to slow for you, then take on more mobs at the same time. You have more then enough AoE for it.

There are a lot of posts saying that the elementalist isn’t a good profession. The damage isn’t good, people die a lot, the auto attack is worthless etc … But when I read through the posts, very frequently I learn that the people who are complaining don’t attunement swap, don’t use combo’s, and just stand there and let the enemy hit them. Those people shouldn’t be complaining about the profession, they aren’t even really playing it.

The core of the elementalist is the FOUR attunements and you have to use All of them EQUALLY in a fight. And really you shouldn’t auto attack any opponent. There are 16 skills on your weapon you should be using instead. No other profession comes near that amount.

In PvE, the elementalist can easily take on six mobs at the same time on any weapon combination. Or even ten and more if they are all melee. Why? Because the elementalist is an AoE profession, even with dual daggers. An elementalists can always do a bit of everything (control/damage/support) on any weapon set. That means it’s normal that there is always a profession that can do things more easily then the elementalist. But can those professions do it all at the same time?

So either you use the four attunments and all of your abilities, or this profession is not for you and you’ll be better and happier with an other one.

And in PvE I never had any problems. My friends are even complaining that the staff elementalist is way overpowered. Events are easy, veterans are easy, personal story was easy. I only need ONE other good guy to take on champions. With two other guys I can complete group events easily. Even the explorable modes are very well doable for me, with a staff.

For example, you can create three area heal combos in three seconds, all by yourself. Cast eruption, place a gyser on it, dodge in it with evasive arcana trait and use arcane wave. You just healed yourself and your allies for more health than your skill six gives you. The same can be done for area might, area frost armor and area swiftness.

I’m not much off a SPvP player, but even there the staff is good when capturing or defending a node. A meteorshower above a node is a strong defense/offense. And in SPvP I try to run alongside an other player, since staff is always AoE.

So please, detail your problem and we can probably help you with it. But keep in mind that the staff is an AoE weapon, not a single target weapon. So you can’t expect it to do the same damage as a single target weapon.

I don’t see how I will ever use this skill again. The time between the realization of ‘they are not going to make the revive so I’ll use my 165 seconds cd skill to help’ and ‘they are dead, spell is useless now’ is just way to short. Especially since the cast time is so long and the range so short.

And even before this nerf, it was hard to justify the slot. One in three times I used it in a dungen, I got killed in the process or just after the revive.

So what's the reasoning behind nerfing us even further underwater?

Whirlpool was good, know I won’t be. And what other choice do we have? Ow, none. And using a Glyph build, including the traits for it, is still my choice. To bad none of the glyphs work under water, except the healing.

I have been doing HOTW with PUG’s, all three paths and they are all doable. But the second is by far the hardest. I use my standerd PvE build for all of it, only that I equip Glyph of Renewal to revive. I did it in a group of three guardians and a warrior. My healing was enough to let them stand toe to toe with the bosses. I did it with a guardian, an engineer and three elementalists. That was chaos at first cause the mobs ran all over, but we adapted. So far in all my runs, I had one wipe.

I usually get out with at least 50silver extra, not counting the rares that I sell on the trading post. And I like that I can work towards a dungeon set, that not everybody can get their hands on. You shouldn’t expect to do the explorable without a lot of skill.

Also, I have spent tweaking my build since the first beta event. I have used skill builders, read the wiki, watched almost every video on youtube on the elementalist, consult the forums, ask advice in the guild … And now even Orr is just easy, nothing more. The explorable gives me a challenge, it’s the only thing that does. Keep it that way please.

Crafting Meant for Leveling or Profit?

I have hit level 400 in artificing and tailoring today, and really I just lost money. I regret having done the effort because there are more enjoyable ways to level up. Crafting is a complete money sink.

With a total tax of 15%, crafting and selling items has a VERY small margin that makes it no longer worth the effort and risk.

Also, since I didn’t know about this tax till today, I have lost a lot of money. And don’t start saying that I should have know it. I played every beta test, I’m in one of the biggest guilds and I very frequently read the wiki and forums. It just never occured to me that the BLTP was charging me more money then that wich it indicates when you list the item. For a week I was convinged that it was a bug so I placed bug reports and contacted support over it.

That a game needs gold sinks and that inflation has to be prevented, obviously. But the information should be clear for everybody and crafting should worthwhile.

I have been crafting exotic bows lately and i released that Trade Broker charge me twice when i am selling the item.

When i finished crafting the bow i clicked on it, and said: Sell on the trade broker. The TB comes up usually with the best price offered for that item. In this case for the exotic bow, there was an offer for 2gold 20 silver. Next to it there was a message: listing fee is 9.50 silver. I clicked OK. My wallet in my inventory has been charged for 9.50 silver and when i went to Pick Up label, it turned out there only 1 gold and 94 silver.

So basically selling 1 bow on Trade Broker cost me 35.50 silver. WTF?!

Something is fishy about this for me. Only for me? If you have any experience please share with me.

Arenanet still has to anwser my ticket.
