[Guide]30 pts in valor gameplay (Hammer)

I’ve spent the last week pouring over the original thread trying to piece together a build, and now this thread has appeared and helped be my savior. I loved the hammers look from when I first started playing the Guardian, but noticed the Greatswords much faster PvE killtime. With this build as my basis as I level my guardian up, I look forward to becoming a juggernaut on the battlefield.

Thank you Brutaly!

sticky this kitten please!

I want to further state why this deserves a sticky, besides being an awesome build that could just go in the build guides. Because this thread goes over a LOT of what makes a Guardian powerful, and Brutaly is very focused on making sure that you get a build YOU appreciate, rather than simply how to make an awesome Crithammer build.

Why low base HP might be a good thing...

I agree, more or less. I’ve seen this idea tossed around quite a few times and it seems to hold true, though my experience is somewhat limited.

You’re not blind, I checked the patch notes on this before I posted too because I just hadn’t seen it.

Removed? Why? Was this about people using it to hop into Lion’s Arch without paying WP fees?

Engineers with Bows

Engineers don’t use bows. Swords? Sure, Electrify it. Hammer? Hell yes, sign me up. Guns and powder? Why of course my good friend. But a bow? Bows are just the low-tech version of a gun to an Engi. Why shoot an arrow with a net when you have a GUN that does it.

Also, the krait witch is a group event as Cinder mentioned and its also in the zone that the humans and Asura go through as well, so its not some “massively over powered” Sylvari boss.

Actually, there is a Krait Witch, as well, in the Sylvari starting zone. I believe the one you’re talking about is in Gendarran Fields.

There’s the Blood Witch in the Kessex Hills, as well as the Krait Witch which is part ofa Hylek event chain in Caledon.

Does homosexuality in Sylvari feel rather forced?

At first, I was entirely on board with the OP. I thought it felt a bit forced and right in your face when I was playing the Green Knight story. Not that it was a bad thing it was there, but ‘OMG HI’ kind of way.

However after reading through the thread and thinking about it to myself? Nope. Not forced. If it was a hetero couple I’d not care.

tl;dr: OP, you’re kinda wrong, and maybe should look at it objectively. That’s all.

I’m definitely going to give the PvE build a shot as I’m leveling my new Ranger, and will keep the PvP seriously in mind as well. I was looking for a tougher condi based Ranger build and this seems to fit perfectly!

How current rewards punish 80% of players (and a fix)

Artorous, you’re missing the point.

A. Not every dungeon CAN be done that way, and that’s AFTER time invested in learning how to work all the mechanics and skills required, which we already discussed that casual players can’t necessarily commit to.

Even further as a ‘hardcore’ player myself, that invests in getting better constantly and learning how to play this game to its fullest, I just spent an hour learning how to NOT do the Ascalon Catacombs, and ended up with a party that quit after the first boss, from frustration. I can’t imagine how a crushed someone on a time limit would be if that happened, to waste all that effort and receive nearly nothing in exchange for it.

2. You’re hyperbolizing what everyone who is disagreeing with you said. We’re not asking for things to be nerfed, we’re not asking to get the rewards in ten minutes, we’re not asking to have everything handed over. In fact the OP suggested curving the skill level of the dungeon with a lower reward table so that everyone can play at their own pace and enjoy the game.

Thirdly: This is an MMO. You are not a unique snowflake, you are not an individual. Your ‘unique’ skin you have is a pretty pixelated display that you had time to grind to get it. Trying to talk down on people because they’d like alternative ways, BALANCED AND FAIR mind you, ways to achieve the same results while being just as skilled as you is just honestly a childish and pisspoor attitude of entitlement on YOUR part. The game is about everyone enjoying themselves in various ways, limiting options to do that is -always- the wrong choice.

OP makes valid, well thought out points, and I’m surprised by the lack of peoples ability to read what he’s saying and comprehend it.

He’s stating that the current curve makes it difficult, if not impossible, for people who cannot commit large continuous chunks of playtime to the game.

He’s asking to make it more casual friendly. Not to dumb it down and let every have their pretty toys because they suck, but to give everyone the option to have a toy, if by earning it through different means.

Dungeons: Just not finding them fun at all.

I have to say, I agree with the sentiment of the OP. As someone who has come from multiple other MMO’s, the feeling the game generates for normal PvE, and then stepping into a dungeon, the difficulty comparison is absurd. There’s no preparation for it, there’s no indication.

The only reason I knew to spec and gear for more survivability and to be prepared for hell was because I’d been paying attention to what other people said, reading the forums, and I’m a bit of a minmaxer for these sort of things anyways.

I also don’t expect to walk in a roflstomp dungeons either. I know bad coordination and bad players can ruin an experience, but dear god. I just ran the first part of AC Story mode on my 30 Guardian, and it was the most frustrating and un-fun thing I’ve done in this game.

It’s more fun trying to fight 5v1 in PvP than do Dungeons. It was an effort in run the kitten away until I can hit two or three times, then do it again.

Granted, if the REWARDS for such difficulty were there, I’d shut up and take it to task, but it cost more money to get through the first leg before I was so frustrated I quit, than I made back in any sort of joy, loot or experience in actually going through the dungeon.

Now, I may hear the response ‘Oh, well you’re level 30, you should wait to go do AC til insert level’. To that I say: Then why the hell is the Dungeon available at level 30?

I just… I understand dungeons are difficult. That they push player tactics and capabilities to the max and are supposed to make you operate at peak efficiency, but most people DON’T do that. Most people are casual. Even further when your typical PvE grind difficulty comparison is just nothing near dungeon difficulty. I find it almost upsetting that there is such a stark difference in PvE, and PvE Dungeons, that I can’t fathom how this was let to pass, not even including how pitiful the rewards were.

Speedy Kits permanence

If you’re going to do that you might as well just remove the timer on it and say when you have a kit equipped you move 33% faster.
Honestly you guys are complaining about being able to do with a tiny amount of work what no other class can. Nobody else gets perma swiftness as an option.

That’s fine. We’re not comparing the other people. What we’re saying is that it’s silly button mashing that gives no tactical value outside of combat. Engineers don’t have any way to match thieves burst, so should the thieves have to suddenly go through an annoying arbitrary mechanic to achieve that burst? No. It should be -fun-. The end goal is -fun-. Granted, some people may truly enjoy swapping kits every 5 seconds out of combat to maintain that swiftness buff.

The OP, and a few others, think it’s a silly way to gate the mechanic. It’s not rewarding a better playstyle, it’s not an increased skillcap, it’s mashing a button to achieve something that out of combat doesn’t really matter all that much besides being a nice convenient perk for being an Engineer and traited that way. Unless this was somehow going to be a game breaking and ridiculously powerful thing, I’m not seeing a particularly legitimate mechanical or balance prone reason why out of combat we simply don’t get the swiftness. If it’s because ’It’d make the class more convenient and easier to play’ well that’s a stupid reason. Making something arbitrarily harder is not a good reason to do anything.

What the OP is saying is that Anet has currently chosen to give Engi’s access to Perma-Swiftness. We can obtain it at the cost of button mashing constantly. I think in combat, this can be a tactical decision, though for what it is, I think it’s a crappy way to go about it for a tactical decision.

Out of combat, it’s simply annoying. There’s no tactics, there’s just mashing to move faster. What I’d like to see is it changed so that out of combat, holding a kit grants swiftness. In combat whenever you swap a kit, it grants the swiftness/vigor. It makes it easier on us out of combat, convenient, and still a tactical decision in combat.
