just because ultimate dominator is doable by people who stay in zergs in T1 and don’t know how to fight outside of those zergs doesn’t mean its doable for the entire population of gw2

There is lots of good discussion in this thread and I hope more people discuss things. The examples I provided are just some ideas and I did not mean to say “these are the best things you can do”. I just want to see some ideas and let this be talked about since I think people are too concerned about the revealed buff and not this change.

I do think looking into CnD Damage is a viable option, because like I said I think dagger offhand has been what has causing people to call for nerfs personally. I don’t think PvE is something that is worth to be considered because PvE isn’t the most challenging thing in this game. I think the vulnerability idea is interesting though

Like someone said, Mug gives the ability for a lot of builds to actually KILL someone below 50% hp. Nerfing mug because a lot of its damage is potentially overkill in D/D BV CND steal all in builds will really make these other builds lose a lot of power and possibly make them unviable because simply they won’t be able to kill anyone who knows how to play.

mug at 20 pt wouldn’t fix the problem at all nor would 30 pt mug. You would still have 30 30 0 0 10 thieves globalling people and have them come to complain about heartseeker spam. I’d also argue that people don’t take into account overkill that mug provides for the standard all in bv cnd steal backstab on glass cannons and removing mug would just do little to nothing for the newer players starting out since they’d die anyways.

Helo I am a thief that plays all weapon sets except PD. I would say I main shortbow and I combo it with DP or SD or DD. I make my own builds and strategies per class. I think solo roaming is kinda for newbies but i am past that stage so I play in small groups in wvw. I bought this game for spvp but spvp turned out bad and migrated to wvw like a lot of people. I watch some stream about devs talking to sPvP’rs I assume (because apparently they’re the cream of the crop, the crop being 200 players that play spvp) and I laugh at some things dev say regarding a lot of classes they talk about. One thing really worries me though.

Right now Mug makes it so a lot of builds or weapon sets can actually kill someone who plays properly or is tanky, or uses 100% damage mitigation dodges or distortions in a timely manner. Without mug the damage a thief will deal is not enough to justify how vulnerable he is at melee range vs these players. I don’t think stealth is a great defense tool in melee if you don’t spec 30 points into shadow arts because a lot of attacks are channeled through stealth (ie killshot, unload, volley etc). % dmg per boon wont work out, because thieves will be taking the same amount of damage for x increased DPS and wont be able to take advantage of the increased DPS to overcome to loss in burst (unless they want to sacrifice their health)

An example of solving the burst issue could be (not necessarily this):
Instead make CnD less faceroll to use. ie a longer cast time to give players longer time to react or it roots you in place like shadowshot used to do for x time if it hits something or something creative. This would make positioning and angle of attack much more necessary for the all-in DD thief than it currently is and give squishy targets a chance. Since release I feel as if most complaints have been targeted at thieves have been against Dagger Off Hand thieves, I think devs should have picked up on that by now.

Even lowering backstab damage to be equal to heartseeker at sub 25% (a 15-25%ish nerf?) or changing it to be from the back only not the back and sides makes more sense than changing mug, because while I think thieves have a high skill ceiling they also have a real low fkin skill floor to play (25/30/0/0/15 and x/30/30/x/x are both really easy to be effective in versus newer players) so increasing the requirements on positioning would help define good thieves from bad thieves and make it so other enemies have better chance for counterplay.

What i’m trying to say is that if you want to remove mug, you need to give thieves more burst or natural tankiness so that thieves can stay in the fight for longer without losing a lot of health in order to justify their increased DPS from boon killer or whatever. The former makes no sense to do if you nerf mug at same time and the latter makes it so you need to go 30 into shadow arts to get sustain in melee. Decreasing build diversity is really really dumb. I’m not necessarily against changing mug to something else, but you really need to take into consideration how it will effect ALL thief builds not just the one that can kill newbies who are just started the game >_> If an elegant solution can be made thats fine, but its not as easy as ABC 123 nerf Mug so e Z as I feel you guys are making it out to be. Removing the burst damage from mug will just completely nullify the killing potential of a lot of builds.

Personally I thought the change to stealth with reveal always coming up was a good change, but that is just me and idk if it was objectively a positive change for the game. That and the 4 second reveal and culling removal would have been too much though so i’m glad devs held back on that.

Also let go of the idea of making thieves #1 mobility class. The way you described it at least makes me feel that you want to make us more mobile than elementalists. You seriously want a class more mobile than ele’s currently are? Thief mobility is really good at this moment, maybe not so much D/D thief but I feel that D/D gives up mobility for being able to do straight up damage.

Reading this thread is adorable. SF is exactly like Devona’s Rest when they were in T8; full of hubris and never seen actual competition. I imagine they will follow the same trajectory — move up a tier or two until they run into groups with equal and better coverage and then disappear in a mass of server transfers and fractal runs. Keep up the good fights HoD and NSP, I’m thinking about transferring down here because I’ve heard good things about your roaming groups.

NSP always welcomes roamers / roamer guilds as long as they want to work together with the current guilds we have and stomp da newbie zergs

i was really keen to see if the twilight guardian would leave twilight moa footprints but sadly, i lagged and did not get to see the result as he’d run away before my lag went away. i logged off before anything reverted to a tower, and iverna logged before i did. in fact, i think the bulk of us headed off around/within the same time frame.

whatever the XvZerg +siege+fort nonsense is, it isn’t what we’re talking about, so please stop sullying our clean fun defense of flame rams with this.

You do realize SPCA/XOXO/SPLT etc have a lot of friends on GOM/HOD and there exists quite a bit of respect between us and many guilds on those server. His comment was obviously a harmless jest about a situation that everyone involved was just messing around having fun.

I’m on NSP, and I can say that out of all of the servers we have fought we straight up outclass them in small group play (including AR, who have manvil members that are high up there in sPvP that I have dueled for hours) and go equal if not completely dominate on an individual scale. Our servers guilds are SPCA, tM, XOXO, SPLT. All of these guilds play together in groups of 2 to 5 and there’s no drama or pointless bickering, so no matter when you play you’ll always have good people to play with in terms of skill and attitude. People are free to criticize without egos being involved as well. We also have PAXA, who are currently on HoD just to fight NSP groups. They’ll transfer back whenever they choose to but they’ll tell you the same

On the whole we are many ex sPvP’rs who had originally bought this game to actually play sPvP. Personally I got bored of it after I got to rank 20 in the first two or three weeks and started solo roaming wvw and then eventually moved onto small group pvp. We have extremely top tier guardians, mesmers and thieves (not because they play those classes but because they play those classes better than others) and having an ele would be good as well for the disruption they can cause.

We are currently T7 fighting GoM and HoD and we don’t do romantic walks with them but we can throw them in the trunk with a shovel and take them for a really really long ride to the beach

Since you are being quite kitteny, I have no choice but to respond.

I have only been on HoD for a week and so I have only come across 2 of the guilds you mentioned. They are not small-man guilds. A small-man guild that wipes to even or even slightly superior numbers doesn’t come back with more and more until they can finally win. That makes them raid-babies.

A small-man group will go back to that fight they wiped in with the same numbers and see how they can improve and win.

ya you probably had fun no one is questioning that, but you did prove SPCA right regardless of what you want to say. We say that all of you except for some notable exceptions zerg and then BM for no reason afterwards and then you put out a video showing you zerg and then BM for no reason afterwards. It would have been completely different if you put in unedited video of equal or almost equal amount of players but you provide this montage instead. Anyone who would just happen upon both arguments would clearly side with SPCA.

I’m sure the SPCA members there (you edited out the fights which I have been told were several minutes long so I’m not exactly sure who was there or how many they had) could have left at any time but they stuck around to fight since we all play to get better not to emote spam or gain pointless internet pride. From my experience with most of GoM, you guys just run away at anything less than equal, you zerg or you leave if you lose. Asian emoticons are cute and all that but they aren’t that good at convincing anyone with any sort of capacity to reason.

I can’t tell you how many times I was mauled by a DH zerg when we were facing them, to have my body jumped on and my corpse emote spammed. It’s a game, kitten happens, and people deal with it. I think you folks, at least the ones making this argument, need to lighten up and just enjoy the game, regardless of the outcome. Also, to your point about the montage Sororita made, I’ve seen some of your (SPCA member) montages and I wouldn’t call them completely objective. Just saying.

The person who I assume you’re talking about isn’t even representing SPCA in some if not all of the video (I didn’t watch it all since I didn’t understand the point), infact Teivospy rarely does as far as I know. She has her own guilds and is just in SPCA because she asked for guild bounties and she PvP’s with us regularily. I don’t know why you’re bringing her videos up in the first place, I have never seen any footage of her doing anything other than 1v1’s or XvY where Y >>> X and most of the footage is full fights. I’m sure that she has zerged people, but she isn’t so dumb as to think that is good viewing material and we aren’t so childish to think that advertising footage of her zerging people would be anything but embarassing for herself. We as a guild don’t have many videos for ourselves vs GoM because GoM just sits in forts 90% of the time.

I think its funny that it seems like a lot of you are electronically making out over that poorly edited montage while being oblivious to the idea that it just is another example that GoM can only zerg.

In the end, you didn’t address my point at all, although I do think it is impossible to refute so I guess the best you can do is dance around it and try to divert attention. Since it is obvious that you guys are only posting this because Teivospy has upset you I’ll just comment on my views on that:

For all the (even i admit sometimes over the top) ad hominem Teivospy uses, at least she provides arguments and evidence of her skill/ideas/beliefs. That is why I tolerate her, because while she is full of herself she also makes crazy strong builds I don’t think any other thief can imagine. Builds that have been posted on these forums by people who have raged out about them while also saying something to the effect that the build is overpowered and shouldn’t exist instead of being bias towards it. In this gom video its people just full of themselves and they can only put a video about zerging while refusing to admit all the video does is prove the notion that they can zerg and not fight evenly.

I know that there is at least one good guild out there on GOM, they can put out a good respectable fight between the us and them. You guys can’t though and I’m sure that the same guild would say you guys are bad too but I don’t want to put words in their mouth /shrug.

ya you probably had fun no one is questioning that, but you did prove SPCA right regardless of what you want to say. We say that all of you except for some notable exceptions zerg and then BM for no reason afterwards and then you put out a video showing you zerg and then BM for no reason afterwards. It would have been completely different if you put in unedited video of equal or almost equal amount of players but you provide this montage instead. Anyone who would just happen upon both arguments would clearly side with SPCA.

I’m sure the SPCA members there (you edited out the fights which I have been told were several minutes long so I’m not exactly sure who was there or how many they had) could have left at any time but they stuck around to fight since we all play to get better not to emote spam or gain pointless internet pride. From my experience with most of GoM, you guys just run away at anything less than equal, you zerg or you leave if you lose. Asian emoticons are cute and all that but they aren’t that good at convincing anyone with any sort of capacity to reason.

Thanks to SCPA and assorted NSP for the grueling siege of longview. Undoubtedly you could’ve gotten more done elsewhere, but I think we’re safe to assume you weren’t in it for the points.

Either way, I think we both got something out of it. You guys got a ton of kills, and HoD got a great learning opportunity in defense and siege busting – something we’re working on as a whole.

SPCA greatly enjoys fighting with GT and you’re one of the two guilds we look out for, so glad you got some experience from that ;_;7

I’ve been using a bleed build in PvP and WvW for a long time, and how I feel about it is that having Axe MH Sword OH and Sword MH Shield OH Switch is much better. Just putting on the bleeds and then switching to Sword and board is much more reliable. But that’s just my opinion. Try it out and see if you like it better or not.
