No, what most likely happened is that a mesmer ran and hid somewhere (the Hills keep has lots of cubbyholes perfect for this). After your main force departed, he called the rest of his team, ran up to the outside wall, laid down an exit portal, then jumped down and put up his entrance portal. Bam, instant keep assault. You have to sweep for mesmers after a keep take. Remember they can stealth too, though they max out at about 10 seconds (no 20+ second stealth runs like thieves can manage).

I just deleted two characters earlier, since I finally decided I wanted to play a mesmer and had no desire to level a warrior or elementalist. Not sure what problem you are having.

That’s not a bug. You get ‘crafting experience’ that moves the bar at the top of the crafting window. When you gain a crafting level (like, going from 100 to 101 armorsmithing or whatever) you gain character experience. The numbers you see popping up for each craft is the crafting experience.
