they designed it to be based around healing. The other classes that have support never really make a noticeable difference in combat with healing.
I know it looks like a lot of healing, and it is… but I do think it fits druid very well.
your concept seems like 80% nature and 20% celestial.
Druid gives balance a chance to actually work….
people never talk about how over powered conditions are in general… When a necro can eat through 20,000 health in a mere few seconds… yeah thats balanced. No profession has a niche to provide base healing support. the supportive healing skills thus far have not made an noticeable impact in combat. healing in this game is broken, and even though people are concerned about the druid being a monk, there has to be some class that can spit out some noticeable healing… otherwise gw2 will remain unbalanced forever. Druid is not going to be the new monk, its going to be an effective role that will be nice to have around.
Looking at the live stream, It looked pretty obvious that healing allies to full health required the druid to exhaust all their energy in celestial form and use all the glyphs.. thats quite the sacrifice.
The druid has an amazing new mechanic. I feel that the celestial form fits very well with the theme of traditional/historical Celtic druids. this whole thing about turning into an animal is merely a WOW interpretation. A real druid was similar to a priest, even comparable to a east Asian monk. having a higher state of being is perfectly illustrated with the celestial theme
I am really HAPPY how the druid turned out. It is truely unique and probably one of the better representations of what a real druid would thematically be like.
All this shape shifting into an animal crap would have been very disappointing. Transforming into a higher being is awesome.
stabbed in the back by anet and making a dps profession into a healer… no more hope for gw2 not to mention why give out staff twice that just lazy…
Ranger has great dps coupled with the pet… the last thing I want is more dps… thats a waste of an elite specialization. and remember.. there are future specializations to come.
I was looking forward to the druid, and now find that it is just a healer. Sounds absolutely useless for someone who solos.
sounds like a great support role that actually might work. there are no current support roles that actually provide any noticeable healing. when coni damage can eat through 20,000 health in mere seconds…. every support role out there is washed out.
Excellent utilities as to more and more and MORE healing and nothing else?
It got one cleanse, 1 projectile absorption, great, but there’s very limited offensive buffs or boons.. There’s not even that many defensive buffs or boons either..
Just healing, and occasionally some cleanse…
I do agree, druid is mainly healing focussed but it does have applications to other builds.
With regards to condi cleanse, druids have quite a bit.
1. In Celestial Avatar form, they can pretty much spam seed of life (1s cd) only and removes 2 conditions.
2. Again in Celestial Avatar form, glyph of alignment removes condi’s.
3. There’s a major trait in druid line that plant’s seed of life every time glyph is used. If you go druid you are likely to take a few of these so there’s a few more condi cleanses out of druid form.
4. GM trait that reduces condi duration by 33%
Combined with any other condi cleanses you may take e.g from sigil, signet etc Druid will have more than enough to deal with conditions.
This is exactly what rangers need as a support role. The amount of conditions people use… and how powerful they are when stacked….. I really like the druid. And besides.. the Druid is a celtic version of a monk…so yeah… let it heal heal heal.
all the other support roles do not provide any healing that is noticeable in combat.
good direction for Druid. very unique too.
Particularly if you want to go dps in pve.
LOL, and there we have the truth, some people are QQing basically because they want to DPS in PvE which Druid is not going to help, so it doesn’t fit your personal playstyle in your specific bit of the game so it is “kitten”.
I picked ranger because it is a class in most MMO, tend to be the highest damage range class of the game.
Turns out it’s utterly false in this game. Didn’t notice we’re monk to begin with zzz..
If I want to be monk, I wouldn’t pick ranger to begin with…Do you really want to be “ranger”, or do you just want to be in the Meta?
If you want to be in Meta, just reroll an Ele/ Warrior/ Guardian and you can easily do so.For me, I play ranger because I WANT to be a ranger…
Note that I have all classes fully geared lv80. I can be in any Meta if I choose to.
However, if I want to play ranger, I want to be a ranger, not a monk…
Ummmm you can be a ranger… This is a druid Specialization… not a new ranger class.
google the definition of a Druid… its a Priest, similar to a monk from a different culture, the Celtics
The Druid is Amazing. I really like it. Every bit.
Maybe they will balance it, however I think the bar will fill up faster than you think… Revanent had the same concern…. but that energy bar was almost always full during the beta weekend
I really love the Celestial form… I even like the color scheme.. its a little different for the ranger.. but there is nothing else like it in the game… and I think it wouldn’t be the same if another profession got this mechanic..
to Irenio and everyone else to designed this, I really like it.
p.s. closer to the stars is my ll time favorite title
I respectfully disagree that the astro theme doesn’t fit with the druid. I really think it does. Not only is it unique, I feel as if it is intended to siphon into the ultimate form of nature magic. perhaphs anet is trying to tie that to celestial bodies and the “universe”
I know people have been saying that the blue color isnt fit for ranger… however the shade of blue they use is very unique. I think they are trying to paint a different picture of the druid. I personally LOVE it
just my opinion though.
your thoughts?
I like the skill and functionality design of Druid. I am desperately looking forward to see how well can a pure support role function in HoT Raids.
One aspect of Druid that IMHO still has the possibility to improve is the theme design: The Glyph skills include too many different elements (tides, vines, stars) and “plant element” is just not enough. My suggestion is, leave all the “astral” stuff to Celestial Form (including Glyph in Celestial Form) and make skills in humanoid form more “plant related” (at least by appearance), especially the Glyph skills. Overall the “celestial theme” is not a problem to me; nor have I seen any complaints on WOW Druid’s Moonkin Form (and Glyph of Stars).
By the way, I will not blame the designers for borrowing concepts from other games (Engineer from Team Fort and Torch Light 2, Druid from another Druid); as long as they fit the story background and skills well, they are great design.
maybe you are right about keeping the astro/space theme with the celestial form. However, I must admit that i really do love that thematic aspect to the druid… its like the ultimate form of nature magic. Its awesome.
I personally think that the Druid that was revealed today was very exciting.
here are the things I enjoyed: The celestial/space theme
isn’t this just an extreme for nature magic? It awesome.
: Versatility of the glyphs
Ranger lacked synergy and versatility with exception of traits involving the pet.
The Druid traits provide new options the ranger never had. It is really the first new niche that ranger has access too, we all know that the spirits didn’t quite work out.I understand that some people don’t like the druid. But their discussion is rarely constructive.
Any feedback?! what do you like and what do you have concern about?
p.s. I don’t honestly believe that the druid will become the new monk… honestly, it looked like you’d have to exhaust all your energy and skills to get an ally to full health…. that’s quite the sacrifice.
Wait, hold on there.
What do you mean by “Versatility of the glyphs with synergies”, when all of them are PBAOE short range, while all staff skills are 1200 range?
Where’s the synergy?
Plus that 10% damage bonus Glyph is even worse than Frost Spirit.. (only 1/4 up-time, netting a 2.5% damage increase over 20 secs)
wow! no one has ever replied to my topic before, this is great. Perhaps we have clashing opinions? but thats okay.
I am not the best at expression, but my meaning behind the synergy was that the glyphs seemed to work well with one another.
- Stun foes or knock back foes, giving you the ability to provide some healing to allies in the fight. It felt like the specialization was complete, or it came with everything you needed without using existing specializations of the ranger. ( of course there are probably some cool builds once you incorporate the other trait lines)
about the staff, I do like that it is 1200 range… it fits the ranger very well. I guess the one skill that moves you straight forward can be an entrance into using the glyphs?

I am definitely going to pre-order. just because of the druid. Nature magic pushed to the extreme —-→ the universe and black holes? celestial avatar? that is the most amazing thing…. anet did a great job on the druid.
INB4: GLF Druid!
Seriously, this is what I’m afraid of. GW2 was supposed to avoid the situation where you’re stuck waiting for a healer. I liked that a lot.
I hope that doesn’t happen now.
I don’t think it will. Besides, if you want to heal someone to full health, it looks like you have to exhaust all of your abilities and energy. It looks powerful, and maybe it is for a short snap-shot of time in combat, otherwise, its really a good support option for ranger. the last thing ranger needed was more dps, using ranger skills correctly with the pet provides some pretty consistent damage.
I’d just like to say:
I absolutely love the druid mechanic and skills. I really appreciate the space theme with the celestial avatar too. It is the coolest thing that I’ve seen so far. I finally feel like the ranger and druid can compete with the rest of the professions.
I have played the second beta and have found that defending the outposts at night time is a pretty simple task. Most noticeably, it does not present any challenges to overcome. The outposts in silver wastes have a better set up and more to interact with. I understand that these outposts in HOT are make-shift, but there should be more distinctive mechanics that help make it feel like something worth defending.
Also, there needs to be more distinct waves of attacks.
I love the overall feel and idea though. I just think that it needs to be more of a make-shift version of silverwates, which worked very well.
I get the idea that Paragons are tight to Elona. However dragonhunter is so cliche I’ve never expected to see such a name in GW2. Herald, Warden, come on, there are infinite better ideas than this.
I think the Warden will be a future elite specialization for the Ranger. I remember an old article about the original ranger profession being divided up into a ranger and a warden… maybe that’s a thing of the past though.
I think a ritualist outfit would do very well. It’d have to be the iconic set though, here’s the link from guild wars wiki

It has some interesting features to it that’d make a good outfit.
possibly this one too!

I have played Guild Wars 2 since release. It is a great game. Unfortunately, the Engineer is in need of some help. I propose a new weapon kit idea THAT THIS severely under-powered and forgotten profession is in need in.
The Engineer has a small theme going on with knock-back skills. Its awesome, and gives the engineer a since of actual power in a form that is unique.
Maybe an Idea already exists thats similar, if so, I apologize.
The gravity weapon kit might consist of the following basic ideas, feel free to add your opinions people!
skill 1 : a basic attack that incorporates a gravity theme to it.
skill 2: a skill that can launch the engineer a considerable distance forward
skill 3: a skill that allows the engineer to push projectiles back to their foes.
skill 4: a ground-targeted skill that creates a gravity-defying wall that pushes foes back when crossed.
skill 5: A sort of mob control skill that would use a big burst of gravity to push all foes around the engineer back. sort of similar to the "Big ol- bomb skill.
details and thoughts are appreciated from the community.
are engie an endangered profession or something?
except me i havent seen any around
Engineers are the mechanical Ritualist of guild wars 2 . why there are so few, I’m not sure. However, they are the only class that stimulate both left and right cerebral hemispheres of one’s brain. If Auguste Compte could conduct a survey with guild wars players being the population parameter, he would most likely conclude that those who choose the engineer class are the only players whom experienced all the following:
In the left cerebral hemisphere,
Rationality
Objectivity
Reality-based
Sky-diving with a parachute.
In the right cerebral hemisphere,
Risk-taking
Impetuous
Fantasy-based
Pompous wind bagginess
In other words, those who play ele and warrior are those who are only impetuous. ( acting without care)
