Well a thief usually only has full ini at the beginning of a fight anyways, you’re still using it at the same rate during a fight and still have to manage it when fighting pretty much anything, multiple mobs especially. But like health regen ooc there won’t be any mobs attacking you while regening. This won’t make thieves “burst faster” in combat, or give them an edge in combat in any way. All this would do is reduce the time between combats. As it stands now after killing an enemy you just stand around for a while before heading to the next guy who’s just out of range, the same way you do for health with any class, only this takes much longer.

Yeah, I have been actively avoiding combat when unprepared… but the whole reason of this post was to point out that the slow initiative regen out of combat doesn’t really follow ANET’s stated objective of trying to reduce the down time between fights, or to put it another way, help prepare us more quickly for combat. That’s why they gave us quick health regen ooc. I don’t see what you were trying to add with that rottaran…

And yeah I understand that while other classes cooldowns don’t speed up ooc, melee thieves are basically impotent sitting ducks without their skills far more so than any of the other classes. Also, maybe some of you don’t realize this, but you wouldn’t be getting more initiative than you otherwise would have in combat. The only thing that would change is the time you spend standing around waiting for your initiative to fill inbetween fights. I don’t see why anyone would have a problem with this. It simply makes for smoother gameplay.

To Coffeebot’s point, I’d like to counter that unlike with all the other classes, melee thieves without initiative = instant death.

How about in PvE only than, playing a DD thief in PvE isn’t terribly easy.

It seems to me that if ANET reduced the downtime in between battles with the quick health regeneration out of combat, that they should do the same for a thief’s initiative. Half the time i’ll find myself fully healed and ready to jump into combat again after a quick brawl, but I need to hang back in order to let my initiative fully fill. This is just plain counter intuitive to the “less downtime” strategy ANET seemed to want for their game. Am I the only one this is bothering?

Those complaining about a ‘fix’ to an ability that was blatantly OP is nothing more than mere children who realize the world does not revolve around them and there needs to be some balance… much like the reckogning theives will recieve in due time.

How exactly was the SoW “blatantly OP”? I’ve never heard anyone say that… ever. The GS wasn’t overpowered or underpowered, it was middle of the road damage (especially compared to warrior, thief, mesmer) and excellent versatility, the way most weapons should be. The reason the GS was so popular among guardians was because it was one of the most well designed and polished weapon sets in the game, not because it was OP. But than again you only have 1 character, so why are you pretending to know anything about what’s OP or not?

This is just stupid. If you take a look at The way Anet has been “balancing” classes, they’ve basically been making most classes weaker overall, for PvE this is terrible. They take what players enjoy and break it. I can see the direction Anet is moving with this game and it’s hugely disappointing. Ontop of which they don’t respond to the playerbase.

If SY can be split, why isn't SoW split 2 patches ago?

I think the problem was that the GS was so versatile, yet at the same time not overpowering or underpowering, that tons of Guardians were using them simply because it was the most fun, balanced, and capable weapon available in the game. Anet had it right the first time. Yet I’m guessing the devs must have seen all these GS guardians running around and though, “Well gee, all those guardians are using a GS….it must be OP. We’d better nerf it!”.
True that when a weapon is OP you’ll see alot more people using it, but in this case the weapon was just plain good. The reason so many ppl were using a GS is because Anet had it right. Instead of nerfing the GS they should strive to make the other weapons as synergistic, versatile, and fun as the GS used to be, that is what players want. But I guess that would be to much work…. so they nerfed it.

Yeah i’m kitten about this change, I can’t even play my guardian anymore. And all that after I worked him up to get exotic gear and a special CoF skin for my GS. Really got steamrolled by Anet on this one…

Healing power good or waist of stats?

I think there’s a difference in simply not liking healing power and it’s true effectiveness in comparison with using those stats for vit or toughness and how much survivabiliity is offered. I tested this out quite a bit and found that the increase guardians get from healing really doesn’t help as much as using those stats to increase toughness or vit, if you’re looking at the survivability side of things.

I leveled my guardian from 5-80 with a greatsword and had loads of fun the whole way. It was an extremely versatile weapon that did decent (not op or underpowered) damage and while there were periods of waiting for skills to cooldown, it was quite an fun time. Fast forward to the Oct. 7th patch, guardian has suddenly become boring as ****. I enjoyed the symbol build with the guardian but now there’s absolutely no point in taking a symbol trait if you’re using a GS. What really matters is that Anet took one of the most balanced and entertaining weapons in the game, and turned it into a boring auto-attack fest, while nerfing it for some reason. They should be making more weapons as versatile and fun as the GS used to be if they want to make the game more fun for players. Killing fun = A bad call, regardless of whether the GS is still useful or not (it’s not really).
