yeah.. I had high hopes for guard despite reading what they had planned for it. I mean support guard is great and a lot of fun but they nerfed staff (the 20% boon duration isn’t enough).
I’ve tested both the mace trait and the shield trait and to be honest you don’t really need the mace one at all.. shield, while I enjoy it’s cool globe effect and projectile destroyer (also the heal is not bad) and the knockback.. with or without the cooldown reduction it still feels very lacking. Another side note is even with full clerics, tons of condi removal, boons, blocks, interrupts, other heals (dodge roll heal/VoR/Altruistic healing/etc).. my guardian melts to condi’s. Before I could command a zerg in full support and with my timely dodges, blocks, condi clears, I could be the first one into combat and still be the last one alive. Now I get melted by mesmers/rangers/engi’s in 3 or less seconds.
On the positive side, I love the new elites (especially the quickness boon and fury for allies – I expected this was going to be such a long cooldown it’d be useless.. but I’m glad they made it low since it’s competing with renewed focus) and also healing breeze becoming a shout (with smite condition added to it). The biggest flaw with all of this…. THE NERFED THE kitten RANGE. I rarely have any of my allies get my buffs whether it be from shouts or virtues. Restore this to 1200 or atleast make it 900.
“I have Level 80 guard and warrior and let me say, despite all the crying on here, Warriors did not get as kittened as guards did. Lets just say between the two, I will be maining warrior still.

Unless of course i roll an Engie since they are Anet’s little darlings.”
I completely agree here Spartacus, I had to drop my main (guardian) also and go to warrior awhile back, and between the two warrior is still better and I will continue to main that for the time being. Guards got really owned this patch. Man, and classes like mesmer who got buffed to the point they aren’t even worth fighting against anymore when they didn’t even need these changes.
You know, I changed my main character to warrior after they proposed the dragon hunter specialization without keeping the base guardian with any place. Currently, guardian is able to be easily kited and even professions they are supposed to “counter” can beat them given equal skill on both parts. Looking at the upcoming changes, guardian was again kicked in the kittens but although I was hopeful to return I didn’t care, I gave up on that profession.
Fast forward to the warrior notes and …………………………………………. WTF, I mean warrior still is playable but the burst skills nerf.. really. I think my biggest laugh was at banner regen being put in no mans land. I know I can’t play the game in the way that I want anymore but for the love of God please leave at least one heavy armor class that I can enjoy and not make the warrior so boring.
I don’t like it personally. I’ve become a bit more accepting now of the idea and not as hostile as I was when the announcement of a long ranged guardian came out. Mainly because of some of the changes they are considering making to guardian (namely our elite skills offering more build diversity) and the fact that you don’t need to equip a stupid longbow and be a back line fighter. (You’ll be able to run melee sets on both swaps and not have to use traps which is how I intend on exploring this specialization).
We need more front liners in combat it’s a shame as it is with the buffs to ranger that 70% of the composition of pug zergs on my server are mass rangers. I want to be in my enemies face and in the thick of battle fighting not pewpewing with the kittens.
Hey Jon, I really like the new ideas you are considering and I hope that you make these changes sooner rather than later!
Right now tomes are extremely situational and I would say 99% of guardians are forced to run renewed focus. I believe with the signet and shout elites it would open up a lot more builds for team pvp and we’d see more diverse Guardians out there.
Thanks,
Feral
Will it be possible to use the specialization (dragonhunter) without equipping the longbow? I.E. melee weapon sets on both swaps?
This questions pretty important for me because I absolutely hate ranged characters, and love frontline, melee/supportive types, and I don’t want to miss out on an entire specialization and all it’s possible builds just because I dislike this so much. Ultimately I’m changing my main (guardian) based on this.
If someone could answer this I’d appreciate it because I’ve moved all my ascended gear and legendaries over to my warrior and halted the completion of my next ascended set waiting to find out the answer.
Random comment as well, warrior is pretty boring after awhile I hope the Revenant turns out to be awesome though.
I absolutely hate this idea, the name, and even the weapon choice.
Played my guardian from day 1 of release because it was a front line fighter with supportive buffs to allies – kind of like a templar or paladin. Now they turn it into a fairy ranger. Really upset with this choice! Looks like I’ll have to find a new main.
I would be happier if they even forgo giving guardians a longbow (which doesn’t even match this class) and just fix our broken/useless traitlines/skills (zeal/radiance/spirit weapons). That would be my version of a new specialization.
I hope they give necromancer a rifle and kitten them off to.
Not aware if this is well known but when you use static discharge with healing turret, the toolbelt skill (regerating mist) has the static discharge bolt shot into the ground. I was testing this on a golem (after noticing my dps felt slightly lacking in several ranked matches) and found that no matter how close or far, the discharged bolt is unable to hit the target.
I’d appreciate if this can be fixed because playing a build like that and sacrificing so much sustain for higher dps output, we should be able to use all our attacks.
Thank you.
I often browse through the thief forums to see what unique ideas or advice people can give to enhance or make me a better player. Nearly EVERY time I’m here though, I read about some person who is complaining about thief being overpowered or that they were hit with 10k backstabs. They have no idea how squishy that build is and how little mistakes a thief of that capacity can afford in comparison to their opponent. I read this and feel annoyed, sometimes even angry that I know where these people are coming from: a dark place of ignorance and stubbornness. I’ve always just stayed quiet and said nothing.
I hope one of these people who cry about thief would be willing to create one and duel any of us experienced thief players on a profession of their choosing, so that we can hand their kitten to them and show that they are not OP, all while making their name/loss public on here (video to back it up). You lost because you were outplayed and that person is in fact better than you – maybe not overall but in that particular fight(s) they were.
The last person I remember was a zerker staff ele complaining about thieves.. in every response that people gave him/her, she responded with “well how about you play zerker staff ele and beat me on thief”. They seem to think that because they stand back and pew pew from max range, get a kill(s) in the process, that they should be able to beat everything even in a 1v1 situation. Counters are not possible. This kind of mentality drives me crazy lol.
Something I would like to see is a rework of the skill you obtain from stealing from an engineer. When you steal from every other class you get something that can effectively disable or turn the fight in your favour if used properly.. Maybe it’s just me, but the engineers stolen item I feel doesn’t do more than waste a second of valuable dps getting rid of it. xD
The blinding powder and dancing dagger fixes are definitely great; still unsure about the invigorating precision until I test it in battle.
Thief traps I think need more than just a buff though, a lot of them don’t feel like as though you’re “trapping” someone which is what you’d imagine a thief to be able to do.
Oh I forgot to add, the nerf to might I think will be an awesome change. It’ll give thieves a bit more staying power in pvp, especially against all these celestial elementalists and engineers who have awesome damage and can outlast our dps even on our full zerker glass builds. I have been finding (after almost a year away from the game and returning near Christmas) that thieves really are struggling to remain competitive in the current meta and fulfill that role of creating uneven numbers.

This buff to shield is exactly what I’ve been looking for.
I didn’t want to lose shield of absorption OR the #4 skill. A lot of people in the past said it needed to be reworked and I can understand why but at the same time I was able to utilize the shield skills properly and found it to be very good when used properly – the downside being the cooldown was so long that it most of the time was out-shined by other weapon choices. The one thing I did want buffed was not in the skills itself but rather to have the cool down dropped. Anet gave me exactly what I wanted
Thank you balance team! I can now enjoy shield on my guardian.
While I agree that rangers are definitely the most hated class in PvE it really is because people misunderstand why it’s hated. Most of the rangers posting here failed to understand that as well. I can’t address all the issues in each statement but I’ll touch upon a few that tend to aggrivate me.
“I can solo such-and-such champs” – Well sure I can solo them to and faster at that on any other profession because I’m not micromanaging 30+% of my DPS.
“I’m usually the last one standing in groups”. This one I find the mst humourous as they tend to be people who sit at far range pewpewing on a bow – outside the range of all the melee offering them little to no support and a severely hampered DPS due to being outside their buff range. Congratulations you survived while the party died due to an unnecessarily extended fight and now have to endure 15-30 minutes of your solo hero attempt at the boss. Bearbow or catbow or whatever pet you want to play – this is still an extremely selfish style of playing and is often misunderstood as being a great for the above reasons. This is just a couple reasons why I’d prefer a full clerics guardian over rangers with this type of mentality. That guard is serving a purpose
I.e. Removing conditions, keeping up protection on the party, adding to DPS via might stacks and retaliation, providing heals, reflection, all while in melee dishing out damage – ready to res the fallen.
With this in mind I have met handful of good rangers even in non speed clear runs who make useful contributions – spotter, spirits, in melee to both give and receive buffs, and the big thing I’ve rarely seen using healing spring to help other members in the party clear conditions or to blast heal with warhorn.
A lot of people say the issue is bearbow rangers, I believe its not just using a lower dps pet but more so the use of a bow in general.
Unfortunately you can’t give aegis to your party every 10 seconds, but what you can do for that specific attack is use shouts convert conditions to boons by going 30 in the vitality traitline. The 3 shouts combined with 2 blocks from retreat and virtues are more than enough to keep your party condition free on that particular boss.
Magi’s armor/weapons (healing/precision/vitality) seems to constantly drop for me. I was wondering if any of you theory crafters out there might have some interesting combinations and traits that can make good use of these stats in preferably a WvW situation (1v1 or small group battles).
The reason Ivposted this in the guardian forum is guardian is my main and also I believe the vitality would benefit lower base healthpool professions best (guard, thief, and ele).
I’m hoping we can work together to create some new ideas or builds as opposed to scrapping this armor set (atleast I have in the past).
Thanks in advance,
Emporius
I find shield useful the way it is, the only thing I would change is a reduction in the cooldowns.
So you want a class to be nerfed into the ground just because you don’t enjoy playing it in its competitive state.
Makes perfect sense.
“Ruin the game for everybody else because i’m not having fun please”.What about the ones who enjoy the class for what it is?
I think you should reread…..hes saying he wishes everyone didnt think warriors OP so he could play warr and not get yelled at for playing an OP class
Thanks for clarifying that, I was just about to respond to it. xD
I wanted to share some of my experiences with warriors if could help anyone and maybe bring a bit of positivity to this section of the forums.
My main in most MMORPG’s has always been “Paladin” like characters – Heavy armor, team support, being the first one in combat holding aggro, etc; in the absence of that I’d play warrior-like professions.
Although my main and character of choice in this game is Guardian, I used to enjoy playing my warrior as well due to its heavy armor and aggressive-feeling, melee, combat style; it definitely took a lot of practice for me to get good with my warrior (highly telegraphed moves, crucial timing required on skill use, picking when to burst, chaining attacks that are difficult to land on moving targets, as a couple examples – all back when warriors were considered underpowered in sPvP and some issues which still exist today).
After the patches that allowed warriors to compete with other professions on a competitive level came in, almost every other person I beat insulted me, chalked off the win to an OP profession, blamed Anet, or commented how easy it is to beat every other class.
Unfortunately, this ruined the way that I experienced and enjoyed the game and pushed me to stop playing my warrior for several months. I was ‘hoping’ that Anet would seriously nerf the warrior last patch – not because it was needed in my opinion – but so that I could play my warrior without being degraded constantly.
I realize that’s not what I should hope for, but instead that all the people who cry on these forums or to you in game, don’t affect your enjoyment of this profession or any other. I believe that you guys are just as skilled and worthy of recognition for good battles as any other profession. I also have a great deal of respect for all of you who still carry on with your warrior mains despite all the negativity. Keep it up guys/girls!
