I love the excuses and boasts coming from GH… the lack of consistency is awesome. A bit like accusing other servers of blobbing without any evidence whatsoever while disputing screenshots and videos of their own behaviour.

The one great thing about GH this time around has been in the game not the forums… there have been some brilliant fights this time round. PRXM and FURY have done their server proud and hats off to the fantastic competition they have provided since returning to the tier. Other guilds like MARA and MM have also improved immensely… but the forum warriors… remain the same…

So I make my posts with tongue in cheek… pressing all the right buttons

I don’t see the hypocrisy here. Our position last week (if a loose community can be said to have a single position) was that all three servers were affected by the bug and GH were just more motivated to keep logging back in to get the win.

Many of you guys even said you gave up bothering… and there’s nothing wrong with that, it’s quite understandable when the stupid game keeps actually crashing! We just wanted to win so much we played much longer hours even before the crashes and kept going through crashes when they started.

In contrast this week you guys have been much more motivated than us to keep going in the face of the new bug.

The difference is that we haven’t claimed that your win is any less meaningful as a result. You’ve earned it by beating us across an entire week, determination to play through bugs included!

Fab’s point was about how we’ve been evenly matched at primetime, not about how/why we lost over the course of a week. He’s right that in general we’ve been well matched when GH are all playing, except for when most of us gave up defending due to the siege bug. However he never attempted to call into question the legitimacy of you guys then hitting us hard!

(of course since fab spoke there have been a bunch of jokey replies pretending to declare your win null and void, but hopefully you can all correctly detect those as jokes… rereading this page I can’t see any serious claims that you won only because of this bug, because nobody thinks that!)

Also as regards the ‘civil thread’ – it’s pretty obvious that the thread had been civil and friendly for days until that Meliai guy decided to stir the pot.

In response to his original “point” – we won last week because we pulled out all the stops and played as hard as possible. This week we haven’t done that (because we physically can’t, not to mention we’re less motivated and therefore lost more players to bugs than last time), and you’ve deservedly beaten us, but it doesn’t say anything about what happened last week.

tl dr Well done, you fully deserve your win and no-one has said otherwise. Repeat: no-one has said otherwise and you fully deserve your win.

Maybe if you didn’t whine so much or gloat so much when you win (given all the d/c issues last week that we had congrats! /sarcasmoff). You wouldn’t be our focus. I still have respect for a lot of people/guilds in GH but people like you just bring your whole community down.

I’m not sure where you’ve seen any gloating. I just went back and re-read the last few pages of the old thread in case I missed anything but all I saw was stuff along the lines of “thanks to RoS/Dz for a good week”.

There was that bit where some guy came in and called us the worst community he’s ever seen (lol!) but we mostly responded to him in a friendly manner too.

Sure there’s some whining in this thread about alliances but most of us don’t see it and agree with your perspective on it!

I don’t know if I’m reading different threads to everyone else lately because as far as I can see there’s way more TALK about whining and gloating than there actually IS any whining and gloating.

Not to mention that the whiny posts there actually exist are outnumbered by people from all the servers being polite and non-whiny!

Anyway, I realise I’m contributing to the problem by discussing it here, but I wanted to bring a bit of perspective: on the whole this is a fun matchup with a very civilised forum discussion. Let’s not let a few forum posts (from – whatever – side) derail things, and let’s not make assumptions about whole communities based on a few people either (again from – whatever – side)!

Forgive me, I meant the general WvWvW population of course since being in a community is a completely different story than just popping randomly in WvWvW.

Yeah the main community here has been through so many wins/losses/stomps that we don’t really care about score, just having fun (not that it wasn’t nice to get a surprise win last week ofc).

That group is growing at a small consistent rate though so after our lesson in community building and community cohesion (courtesy of Xaoc :p) we’re building a stable growing group that will be there rain or shine. Eventually that’ll hopefully be enough to prevent swings in our own numbers.

That said, it’s just a hypothesis that our community at large is more “volatile” – we can’t be sure that it isn’t just small and when a few people are off doing other things – like enjoying the current good weather, or whatever – we get stomped.

It’s then almost impossible to tell which way round the causation goes: are we getting stomped because people weren’t there or are people not there because we’re getting stomped? Likely a bit of both.

Would love server stats and WvW map population from Anet to answer the question properly but I doubt that day will ever come, sadly.

Anyway, grats to RoS/Dz for a very strong first couple of days. Hope you’re all having fun in the process

Indeed! Though to be honest I suspect all three servers are so close that whoever wins is basically a function of luck in who gets focussed less over the week. All three servers fairly randomly choose their next objectives on each map, and sometimes it just happens that both enemies are attacking the same server for a while, then things ebb and flow back and forth.

Because all three servers are fairly equal in strength (imo) I suspect if we played each other 10, 20, 100, 1000 times we’d probably end up close to a 33% win rate each (and possibly a very high suicide rate, though that’s another story :p).

Of course the new tier system means we probably won’t be testing that theory, but I think we’ll be trading winners whenever we are matched up unless population shifts dramatically.

The end of the week was kind of pointless, with all the crashes. For the people proud of winning against servers who can’t even enter half their maps… I don’t know what to say.

Tbh though even if things had finished as they were 48 hours ago I’d have been really proud, we’re up against two very strong servers and played hard and kept our spirits up all week.

2nd.: Every matchup of RoS and Gh involved has so much hate in. These 2 servers have too much unpleasant history together and everything turns into hate. For example my comment at the beginning of the match with is removed now.

I’ve said ot before, there are some guilds on GH that I really like, but generally GH playes to defensively for my taste. Upgrade, siege up and bunker down is a very common. Even when fighting against a force that outmans us, they usually turn to a tower or keep and bunker down.
This is my experience, and it may be a gross misrepresentation.

Actually this is a really interesting insight. We should take this on board and see what we can learn from it.

Not that we should give up upgrading and defending… but maybe looking at being more offensive would be a good place for improvement.

Thanks for the answer! Speaking personally I do always try to be respectful and not to flame, and I know a lot of others in the community try the same.

On the whole this weeks thread has been much more civil and respectful than last time we met, and compliments have flown both ways between the servers – rightly so because there’s been great play on all sides.

Of course we’ll always have those who like to fire off some flame blasts on the forums, but we will continue to try and cultivate a respectful culture. We regularly talk on our own site about keeping ourselves restrained here and not generating drama.

Like you say the important part is the fun fights, and there have been plenty of those this week

Atleast to me GH community made a really bad first impression when RoS came into this tier.

edit: The reason may be that GH was bitter when we came to this tier and kinda dominated it, because we had the potential to be 1-2 tiers above after the transfers.

We weren’t bitter because we were losing or anything, we were sad that a fun, even tier had been completely imbalanced for what seemed like selfish reasons.

Sorry if that made a bad impression on you at the time, but we just made our feelings heard. Apologies if any of it offended or bothered you.

This week we’ve been really complimentary towards the other servers and the matchup has been really even and right down to the wire. We’re just being consistent – we like fun, even matchups!

In general we try hard to be friendly, and we have a good relationship with most other servers (ask WSR, RoF, AS, Dzag, and check last week’s matchup thread vs WSR + AS if you don’t believe me!).

I don’t know why it always seems to go so sour with Surmia, but my experience has been that Surmia seem to rub a lot of other servers up the wrong way. A couple of friends on RoS have said to me that they don’t like that no other servers like them but they have some vocal people (Ilesyt before his ban, and the likes of that Meliai fellow) who tend to irritate people and give RoS a bad name.

Personally I think there are good and bad on all servers, but we try hard to be friendly and respectful of our opponents.

I’m sorry you’ve not had a fun time, but many of us have – people on all sides have said it’s been a great matchup despite all the crashes. And coming back from 3rd to win is a huge result. While we’re all enjoying it, I don’t think we’ve been particularly gloating or anything. Again, apologies if you feel we have been gloating, and I hope you have a more fun time next week.

I think you’ll find that if any guild from GH specifically organised with an enemy guild to go and PvD the 3rd server’s borderlands instead of fighting each other they’d face a lot of condemnation from the rest of Gunnars. It’s just not the way we play.

Wondered if this story would ever break here – it’s obviously not in Riot’s interest to mention it, and I figured the rest of Surmia didn’t know about it (or they’d presumably have condemned Riot for it), and Dzag don’t often come to this thread.

Anyway, what’s done is done and it doesn’t particularly matter. We all had a good laugh about it and are still really enjoying the matchup with all its ebbs and flows.

And frankly this thread has been a benchmark of civility after the last time our servers met (for whatever reason) so on the whole a massive pat on the back and a \cheer to everyone from all three servers (except Riot and Hot of course!).

From what I’ve been told, the issue is with the Waypoints. Each time you get near a Keep which has a waypoint (so, garrison for example), you get disconnected.

This bug only seems to occur in the borderlands, and not in EB.

Unfortunately this isn’t quite accurate as it’s definitely been happening in EB in our matchup (GH/RoS/Dz). Mostly in the blue corner, but also at Klovan – no waypoint involved (of course green keep has a waypoint so it could be related…)

You guys showed up in our bl at the same time with a huge zerg and both attacked our keeps at exactly the same time. And during that time you guys also attacked our structures in EB all at once. Focusing mainly on us.

Mate, if we could get everyone JUST ON OUR SERVER to attack simultaneously on two different maps I’d be delighted at our level of organisation. The fact that you think we could be that incredibly well organised not only with ourselves but also across a whole other server (and the language barrier too!) is kinda crazy.

Anyway, all this paranoid nonsense aside this has been a great matchup so far. We’re definitely going to come third, but hopefully not by too much, and the fun of running around constantly capping/defending (yes, against Dzag too, omigosh!) has been fantastic. If only WvW could be this fun all the time.

I’m confused, Ray, that 4th screenshot even shows Dzag have taken some towers from our corner in EB and we’re fighting to get them back.

Not to mention we have red on all four maps in every one of those screenshots, so we are being active in all four borderlands, just like you say?

Also, have you looked at the score? Or at MOS? It’s one of the most even matches in EU.

This is kind of coming across like you guys are just bitter you’re not rolling the tier again, to be honest.

Not to mention that coming from the same server that physically asked us and Dzag for a three-way-alliance to let you tick +500 all week and tier up, it seems a little hypocritical that you’re freaking out over an alliance that doesn’t actually exist.

Sigh. This comes up in so many threads, and it’s almost never an actual alliance.

Today I’ve been in groups that have been wiped by Dzagonur in several different places (including at least twice inside Surmia keeps!).

There is no alliance, no talk of an alliance, just people on both servers fighting where they can and where they feel like.

Sorry you’re not handling it very well at the moment, but I’m sure there will be points this week where GH are low on points and the rest of the map is all blue/green. We won’t immediately cry “alliance” though, because we’ve played WvW before and we know that’s just what happens sometimes – both servers are pushing us for whatever reason.

Insanely close scores! My instinct is that Surmia will pull away as the week goes on and our late night/early morning strength fades in comparison, but it’s good to have such a close battle even this long.

This was pretty much guaranteed to happen when you joined a T8 server, I think.

Also, I might be being slow, but I’m confused about what your aims are overall.

You came down to the low tiers for better fights… but now you want everyone to stop fighting you (http://puu.sh/2UFzW.png) so you can tier back up?!

So you don’t want to fight now at all, in the hope of mythical better fights in the higher tiers you already left? I’m starting to think that whatever you think you’re looking for, it doesn’t exist.

Is it just that you want to be on a middle tier server, in which case why not just join one in the first place..?

Anyway… I REALLY don’t mean this in a flame-y way (it’s hard to get tone across online!), just want to get some clarification on what it is you’d like to happen. I’m not convinced that tiering up will solve your problems, whether it’s by Glicko manipulation or Anet adopting another system.

Shaking up the meta is a good thing indeed, it just depends on the direction it is getting pushed in and that doesn’t look very promising.

Heh, I’m afraid I don’t share your disillusionment, though I understand why you feel so. Personally I really like both the arrow cart changes and am excited by the possibilities of traps. Be interesting to see where everything ends up in six months or so!

Again, not worth wasting anything trying to stop them. They got trolled by the traps, those were the things that needed to be stopped and that was something completely new.

Stealth thieves are scouts or camp flippers. Nothing any group of a decent size needs to concern themselves with when they encounter one or two.

Perhaps you’re right and I wasn’t giving them enough credit! It seems we both agree that they could have done something about them – you saw it as the group deliberately ignoring them (as you point out, with possible good reasons), I saw it more as a failure of awareness.

I guess now we’ll all have to rethink our priorities with regards to solo roamers!

(I see this as a good thing as I like shaking up the meta… you may disagree)
