Sorry to necro the thread, but it was the first hit on google when researching how to repair broken alters.
My comment on this is simply:
If Anet is working on a fix or if the broken alter status is intentional it would be nice to know these things. I’m fine with the bugs that are in the game, what with the huge amount of code and dependencies that a game like this has. I would like to see more communication from Anet about what bugs they have on the list, and what the priority is. I understand that admitting or officially publishing bugs and priorities can be seen as bad form and that it can draw attention from those that like to exploit, but it would make those of us who see them and know of them and do not exploit them feel better about the game in general.
An example would be the borderlands jumping puzzle doors being broken. Was this intentional or an unintentional consequence of another fix? There are more than a few “bugs” in the game that could be seen as intentional short term fixes waiting for the time/resources to make a permanent fix, yet we’re stuck with guessing.
On exploiting… on Blackgate (at least in the major alliance) all forms of exploiting, 3rd party gold buying, and general hacking are severely frowned upon. Many people have found themselves reported and guild kicked for this. Ostracism in an MMO can be very powerful, and I would suggest all servers/alliances do the same. My thoughts are simply, if you can’t play by the rules, you didn’t win. And what’s the point of playing to win, if you need to cheat to do so.
