The only way to achieve true balance now is to give everyone perma stealth that doesn’t break on damage. Just attack randomly until you get kill credit.

Blocking dps meters

The whole DPS meters cause toxicity thing is a fallacy. Meters are a tool and blaming the tool is not the answer. Well before DPS meters were a thing people still got insulted and/or kicked from groups for a perceived lack of skill, poor performance, unoptimized builds and a number of other reasons. Toxic players exist with or without DPS meters.

So you disagree that DPS meters could cause a player that others deem not “good” enough to be treated poorly/excluded etc?

While it’s true the mentality and attitude associated with toxic behavior is not created by DPS meters, the meter can be used as a tool to promote it.

Yes a DPS meter also has positive uses, I simply disagree that DPS meters are 100% innocent and do not cause or help create a toxic environment.

I understand that DPS meters can be used as a reason to kick someone. My point is with or without the meter…this happens and people find some sort of measuring tool. In my eyes…at least a DPS meter has some actual weight behind it(assuming accuracy) and puts real numbers to someone’s contribution as opposed to people just making assumptions about contribution without them.

Let’s say for example you enter a raid/fractal with an unorthodox/non-meta build. With meters you at least have the opportunity to show that you can still pull your weight with that build. Prior to meters a lot of people see non meta builds and just immediately assume that is the problem.

I don’t think meters create a toxic environment. While the tool can be used in a toxic way it can also be very helpful, and I believe the upside is greater than the downside. There is nothing wrong with seeing how much everyone contributes to a group. The main factor here is the people you are dealing with. DPS meters open a channel to help players improve themselves and find out where work needs to be done.

Does Longbow need an update/buff?

I would love to see some longbow love. Currently I use LB/GS in my PvE open world build just because I find scepter to be pretty bland and I really don’t need a full DPS build in open world. Also I dislike the fact that scepter is pretty much a melee weapon if you want to get the most out of it. I think it would be awesome if Longbow was made a legitimate contender for a ranged DPS spec.

Since Heavy Metal Ranger has been confirmed I think it’s time we discussed dual shield Guardian. I want to be able to sit in my safe space and never take damage.

New Player, Sad Player. Expansion ruined it.

You can pretty much just ignore the majority of breakbars in solo content. Hell I didn’t even know what they were for a while and I got by just fine without adjusting my build to give me more of them.

I originally started this game back in beta and loved it right out of the gate. The combat system felt amazing and I really enjoyed the classes, leveling system, focus on exploring…everything really. However, once I hit 80 and got full exotics and PvPed quite a bit…I started to get bored. My main reason was the game offered me no real challenging content and I wasn’t used to the sort of “endgame” that GW2 was offering.

I came back to the game recently because of what I read about HoT and I feel like it was exactly what the game needed. The general difficulty of the new zones feels perfect to me…I can roam around and do what I want for the most part but I can still die if I am careless. The new metas, gear progression, story quests…all of it has been a ton of fun for me. Even aesthetically I love the new zones. They have an incredible amount of depth and they don’t feel like just a long safe path with some oddly placed bad guys waiting at designated areas.

My point is…I keep seeing people talk about how HoT is turning people away, but try to consider that it is also bringing people in. Me and roughly 10 of my friends have started playing the game again and HoT is the reason we are here. It offers an experience that the core game lacked. I understand it is not for everyone…but just remember that it is not as simple as “new players can’t handle HoT” because it isn’t true.

I loved the final battles. They were difficult but not terribly difficult. I beat all of them on my first try without researching them at all. Ran through them again with an alt and had the same results(aside from one bugged run). It comes down to understanding mechanics and responding to them more than anything. Also don’t go in with a 1 dimensional build. In general when soloing I tend to make sure I have good ranged and melee options as well as some solid cleansing/healing/mobility.

I don’t see an issue with them being hard…I mean it is essentially a boss of the game. Why should it be easy? The only issue I have with them is they are still relatively buggy. Going in to what can be a really lengthy boss fight and dying due to a bug can be really frustrating. If you are unable to beat it try adjusting your build/strategy or round up a bit of help.

Wildstar had something to this effect. No unlimited dodging or anything but it was a building you could set up on your home plot and it was pretty much just a “don’t get hit” challenge. It presented a bunch of changing obstacles you had to avoid until the timer ran out. It was actually pretty fun.

How do you deal with being so slow without traveler runes or using retreat/staff? Are you always in a group that can provide swiftness?

This is the issue I have with WvW builds…so much running and I never feel comfortable slotting in movement speed abilities.

I pretty much just always run Retreat and Save Yourselves when I am out doing open world. Those 2 combined with GS leap makes for decently fast movement.

Official Skill Balance Thread: 22 February Update

So from a Guardian perspective I am more or less indifferent to this patch. I have no issue with the nerfs, specifically the Justice nerf…I think that was a solid change.

I like that the devs see that GS needs work…but I feel that they missed the mark a bit. It is the mechanics of GS that needs addressing more than the damage.

My main concern is the fact that Spirit Weapons went completely untouched. One of my favorite things about Guardian when I began playing back in beta was my Spirit Weapon build. Spirit Weapons seem to be relegated to the realm of “just for fun” rather than having any remotely competitive applications. I would really love to see Spirit Weapons and other neglected skills get some love rather than just tweaking what is already being used ad nauseum.

I also would love to see some changes that allow condi guardians to be more viable in PvE DPS roles. I love playing burn guard in PvP but in PvE it just lacks output and really just feels a bit stale.
