What content are you planning on doing? Are you looking for a build for PvE/WvW/sPvP? Need to be a little more specific on what your needs are before we can offer much advice.
They have mentioned that they have made changes to the new elite specs, they just haven’t gone into detail on the changes yet. So while we don’t know if they will really address the problems, at least we do know that the elites we have been playing are not the final product.
Haha I’ve seen that same guy in the past raging in matches while he charged mid over and over. Then yelling at the team for not being there while they were on respawn.
I personally made a full Trailblazer set in preparation for PoF. Could definitely do better damage with Viper or Sinister but with Trailblazer I will do plenty enough damage for any PvE content short of raids and will serve as a WvW set as well.
Well, let me amend that: all mantras except the burn mantra for PvE condi builds will be useless.

I don’t even know that the burn mantra will be use for PvE. From what I recall it was a horribly inefficient way to apply burn.

No not really. Symbolic shines in sPvP because of the fact that it is based on capturing points. In WvW there is no reason for anyone to stand on your symbols so they can pretty much just ignore you.

The only thing I would add is that the ws/nm variant is 100% ahead of the others in terms of efficiency, but in terms of queueing and carrying ranked, there may be better options that utilise longbow, depending on the situation
I’m curious Frosty…what would you consider a good carry build for solo ranked queue? I have been playing my ranger more in sPvP and I am a little bit torn on what role I should be filling as a ranger to carry in solo queue. I can do pretty well with an offensive LB build sniping out priority targets in teamfights and bursting in a +1 but I wonder if I could carry better by playing a more bunker/support type build.
Yeah my only real issue with scepter is the painfully slow projectile speed. An update to the animation would also be nice but I would put both of these pretty low on priority lists considering the plethora of other Guardian issues that need attention.
What build you want will depend largely on what you plan to do. Are you interested in doing large scale zerging or more of a roamer who likes to do smaller scale fighting?

None of the specs are intended to work in only one game mode so stop with this crap. The specs that are only used for one game mode are that way due to bad design, not intent. If they get the spec right it should have some kind of place in all aspects of the game. Obviously this isn’t as easy to achieve as we would like, but stop acting like the spec was designed for the sole purpose of PvE use.
The patch this afternoon fixed the Eternal Armory trait. Sword of Justice now applies four burn stacks if all swings hit. Running Radiance 1/2/1, I got up to 17 burn stacks for a split second between Spear of Justice, Zealot’s Flame/Fire, and Sword of Justice. I don’t have any condition damage or expertise, so if you have increased condition duration, you could probably get even more stacks.
I’ve been toying with a burn build using SoJ and I can spike up to 25-30 stacks of burn really fast while also applying a large amount of vulnerability. Makes for pretty huge burn ticks and it is a lot of fun. I can’t wait to try integrating Firebrand into it.
Yes I’ve been playing since beta and I understand that we know what we have. I can even understand people’s points when they say they see a bunch of glaring issues. With all that said…I still don’t think we can make such confident claims of the spec being totally useless without some testing.
It may well turn out to be bad…it doesn’t look great. However, claiming that it is bad as an irrefutable fact this early on is a bit much for me.

I would recommend a full Marauder build with pretty much any weapons you like. I personally prefer GS+LB. GS has mobility which we lack greatly, huge AoE damage and an AoE pull. Sw+ any OH is also really good I just enjoy GS more. For a ranged weapon, Scepter definitely outdamages LB but it is pretty low range, and I personally just find it to be a boring weapon.
You should just go for Force/Accuracy if you want it for PvE.
Might not be what you are looking for…but in general I wouldn’t recommend trying to 1v1 a guard as a thief. Wait till someone else is fighting him and +1. Just make sure to burst him between defensive CDs and you should be able to drop him fast.
I disagree. I think the winners of the Olympics should be able to behead their competition and drink their blood on the podium.
im not saying they are broken or avoid counterplay, im just saying that there is something wrong when half of the players in a given match are playing the same class.
What’s wrong is a ton of low tier players hear that DH is OP and rush to it. This is only an issue in the low tiers of PvP. There is always going to be something that swarms lower tier games because people look for an easy ride.
Even if they nerfed DH into obscurity…something else would take its place.
If thoses threads keep going , sorry to say that but im starting to think its à l2p issue. DH are fine : dodge/block/evade their traps .
It is entirely a l2p issue. I don’t mean that in a rude or mean way…but if you think DH is overpowered then you just need to learn how to fight them. I play with a couple people who used to say the same thing until I gave them a crash course on what to look for when fighting DH. It really makes a huge difference…instead of complaining about them just do a bit of research or try playing a DH yourself to learn the mechanics.

The standard LB/Sw-Sh power DH still works really well. What kind of gear are you using? I would run full Marauders and you can mix in a few Berserker accessories to add more damage as you see fit.
Advice wise, without knowing how you play it is tough to tell you what to improve…but I can tell you from my own experience I definitely camped LB and relied on traps way too much at first. Don’t underestimate the damage of sword, especially if you can get an opening that allows you to put a full Sword 3 into your target. It does huge bursts.
Let’s be honest. Nobody actually looks at it. We look at the stats then exit asap to pop another queue. This is a non issue.
This is why I don’t understand all the uproar. You don’t even need to see it and you can leave when you want. If your feelings are hurt by dancing characters in the background then there are probably some deep-seated issues you should be worrying about instead.
I honestly don’t see why people care so much about this. I will agree that it is pointless, but I don’t understand the idea that it would actually make people mad or upset. Even when I am frustrated after a loss, I can see the other team dancing around and it does not bother me in the slightest. Also there is a large scoreboard that really just blocks the screen…and you can leave the match. Why is this upsetting people?
I would second the LB + GS build with Berserker or Marauder gear. I prefer Marauder because I like to WvW but if you only plan to PvE Berserker is the better choice.
I vote for mainhand shield.
If you aren’t doing raids, I’d recommend just taking all your current Berserker ascended gear and converting it into Marauders. This will give you gear that still does more than enough damage for PvE and a nice set for WvW. This is the only way you are going to have a single set that will do good damage in PvE and be viable in WvW.
Is there a solid hammer Rev build for WvW roaming? I just recently leveled my Rev and I am liking hammer a lot.
No they are not. Forums almost always present the most negative side of things because people will often come here to complain, but rarely come here to say something positive. Guardians could certainly use changes in certain areas but they are by no means terrible or useless. If you like the class then play it.
Until they add more ranged weapons to core, I will stick to longbow.
Don’t know why you would, whatever you can do with the bow you can do with the scepter (except the ward) while having more choices and dealing more damage.
- Autoattack – Scepter can auto.
- nuke – Torch #4
- blind/knockback (if traited) – Shield #5 for knockback, focus #4 for blind
- Burn Symbol – #2 on scepter hits harder and you can burn with Torch
- Ward – Only thing the scepter can’t do but it does have an immobilize which has a harder tell to see so it will actually hit.
I used to like the Longbow as well, but once they started nerfing it I came to the conclusion that it’s a waste of time.
My issue with scepter/torch in PvP is the terrible projectiles. Scepter isn’t so bad anymore but the accuracy issues with Torch 4 frustrate me to no end.
I don’t think they said they are reworking them in the next patch. They just said they are on the radar and they want to rework them. The tone of the post made it seem like something that they want to do but is not high priority.
Just because you consider certain traits to be dedicated burn traits does not mean this isn’t a burn build. The op’s build lays out a lot of fire and covers the burn stacks better than most standard burn builds.
Generally the best secondary options you will have for LB are GS or Sw+T/Sh/F. I personally like doing the GS/LB combo for open world. I think the GS is perfect for open world stuff because it has mobility, pull, and great AoE damage. Use Berserker’s or Marauder’s gear.

For sPvP burn is solid, definitely viable…but meditrapper power DH is still generally viewed as the top Guardian build. For WvW a lot of people do a frontline support DH, but if you want to roam then again…burn or meditrapper DH are both solid options.
In terms of pure DPS a berserker power build is better by a large margin. However, this doesn’t really matter unless you plan to do raids or high end fractals. If you are just talking in terms of fun casual play then I strongly suggest just doing whichever build you find to be more fun. Both of them will easily get you through anything aside from raids or high level fractals. I personally change it up pretty often and have built multiple sets to allow for this.
Taimi is by far my favorite character in the story. Taimi and Canach are the only ones who have a legitimate personality. Every other character is just a basic cliche filler and they are just bland and boring. Braham I would happily kill off just to be done with his irrational nonsense and whining.
It’s crazy to me that some people actually get upset that other people are getting items that they are proud of. I understand if someone is linking an item purely with the intention of one upping someone or downplaying another player’s achievement…but someone linking something because they are excited they got something they have been trying for…why be anything but happy for them?
They are not setting you back or stopping you from getting loot. It isn’t their fault that you haven’t gotten what you are after so why be mad at them for getting what you want? If anything I think it should be motivation…a reminder that it happens and you just need to wait for your chance.
Condi druid is not only bad for wvw but for open world (aka grinding) it is as well. Unless you are fighting an static world\raid boss the condi druid\ranger is utterly useless.
This is an extreme exaggeration. Condi works for WvW despite not being the best…and in open world/any pve it works exceptionally well.
I won’t necessarily be solo. I will often have 1 or 2 friends with me. But the more I think about it the more I reach the same conclusion…the healing power is probably not needed. The only gear I have created so far is a Viper set for my Condi build. That is why I am debating here. I don’t really care about building a berserker set for PvE so I am just going to build whatever would be best for PvP. I suppose I will just have to make some exotics to test drive different sets before I go and build an ascended set.
What gear you would recommend for the Shoutbow build from metabattle? I normally use the menders trinket with Dolyak runes for sPvP but I am undecided on what kind of gear to build for converting it to WvW.
I was thinking about just going mostly Marauder to get more offensive power but I am wondering if I should find a way to get some healing power in there to bring it more in line with the PvP version.

Is the PvP Shoutbow build viable for WvW roaming? I have been using it in PvP and I really enjoy the build but I haven’t made gear to try it in WvW yet.
So I have recently leveled up a Ranger and I am having a ton of fun with it. I am looking to find a solid WvW roaming build. I would likely be rolling with a Thief and a Necro…generally it would be just 2 or 3 of us. So what I am looking for is a good WvW build for solo/small group roaming.
The idea is finding something where I could be effective in 1v1/2/3 situations but also synergize well with a small roaming group. Anyone have builds that fit the bill?
This is true. People are far more likely to come to the forums to complain than they are to praise. This is fine but it does create a false sense of negativity about the overall perception of the game. I personally have been playing S6 and having tons of fun.
burn is bad and useless above (and probably in) gold tier. drives me insane when my teammates are burn and I bm’d falselights the other day for throwing a game playing it. though I think we still won that one.
I’m curious what is it about burn that makes it so unviable in your eyes. What area(s) do you find it to be so lacking in? Also are you just running the completely standard meta build with LB – Sw/F this season or have you made any adjustments to traits/abilities?

The revive complaints seem so far from what I experience. I almost never see anyone left laying there. It is pretty regular for me to try to revive someone only to get the message saying there are too many revivers. There have only been a couple situations where I have been left to die when I felt it was reasonable for people to revive me.
Yeah I understand that as things are now it doesn’t stand much of a chance. I would like to see changes that allow more DPS specs to exist though.
I don’t understand people complaining about how the game is no longer easy to come back to. I stopped playing originally about 6 months after release and just came back a few weeks ago. It took me about 3 weeks to get several different full lvl 80 exotic sets for different specs and almost a full set of ascended zerker gear(just missing some accessories) and a few ascended weapons. This stuff is not difficult to obtain.
