I don’t think I’ve ever received a dishonor stack with the current system.
Why, you might ask?
Well.. That’s very simple actually: I never leave my games.
I can’t recall I’ve gotten a dishonor stack by DC’ing either.
But I dont know what the fuzz is all about. Why not give people 30 seconds to reconnect to the game and then avoid getting dishonored. Sure enough, those 30 seconds are still a disadvantage, but I’m sure the people DC’ing are just as frustrated as the rest of the team.
Sometimes I get DC’ed to the character selection screen and can get back into the game within 5 seconds (never happened in pvp though). Such a short duration won’t even be noticed.
Zaphiel Faires – DPS Guardian
You may be right, but we’ll wait until we have actual data to look at. If the cost of having the feature out-weight the benefits we’d definitely be willing to change it. The new systems make this sort of thing much easier to do.
That said, I think character swapping mid game should be discouraged. Does anyone have an opinion on that?
Swapping mid game should imo definitely be discouraged.
I’ve had it happen a few times before, and it is definitely a disadvantage.
As to profession-swapping, I’ve always thought about a system similar to “Picking Heroes” in MOBA-games like Dota.
Obviously the feature would have to take less time, since there are much fewer professions than heroes, and it’s not as important. However, it still makes a difference.
If you’re proficient at playing Necro and Ele, you might want to play Necro in a game against two Engineers.
It could be a simple feature, where people had to “lock” their current character, and when locked it would show the specific class icon to the team.
Another idea would be to do the picking like in Dota, where each team take turns to lock a character. This would allow for counters, and not just avoiding duplicates on your own team. The current swapping allows for both.
However, there are a few issues with this idea.
In Unranked Arenas people might not want to use too much time getting into a match. And with map-selection, class-selection etc. it might be a feature where everybody simply just locks instantly. In dota however, the same issue is present, some people just pick a hero they want to play and do not care for the enemy or ally team’s picks.
A lot of people main a class, and would never play another class even if they have triplets on the team, because they simply dont care and just want to play that one class. Which I understand.
You could choose to implement this feature only in ranked, but even the current “pro-teams” usually stick to a comp and rarely swap classes.
This may be a complicated suggestion for a small problem. I think it would be pretty interesting though. Might make people think more about countering comps, and therefore play more than one class. This way we would see a lot of variation in comps.
The current system seems very uintended though, and every match has 1:30 minutes time waiting, where nothing happens except maybe determining who goes close.
As far as I understand, this waiting time (in the actual map) won’t be there, which to me is very good. So a class-selection/lock feature could replace all this waiting time, which would not lengthen the matches.
Last comment: Obviously the MMR-Profession thingy wouldn’t work with this feature.
And to the people who don’t think you can play multiple classes on the same level, well, I am simply not agreeing. If pro Dota players can play a lot of heroes well, GW2 players can also master more than one class. I know for a fact, since I can easily play multiple classes at the same level.
TLDR: An implementation of a “Moba-Picking”-like feature. Would allow teams to counter specific classes and avoid dublicates if wanted.

Changing the auto-attack would be nice, but it’s not too big of a problem. People rarely reflect my auto-attack, though in theory it’s bad design.
Imo “Flashing Blade” is not as good as you claim. In terms of DPS it is very bad, since the base dmg is fixed to a very low amount. The aftercast and cast-time is also pretty long, which means you could’ve completed at least 2/3 of your auto-attack chain.
Teleport+Blind is nice though, but the skill should give dmg equivalent to “Leap Of Faith”. Furthermore, using it without a target should trigger the teleport. Guardians really need out of combat mobility, which this would grant (think Phase Retreat).
This change with a change to Merciful Intervention as well (making it a port without a target), would probably get Medi Guards into the meta.
Zealot’s Defense however actually deals a decent amount of dmg if you can actually land it. I see a lot of guardians using it wrong, but I’ve had a lot of use for the projectile absorption, it’s GOLD against Warriors or Engineers. Having the attack block all attacks would be better obviously, but might make the skill too strong.
If it did only block projectiles, that would be pretty nice, since it would trigger on-block effects and still be a situational skill.
If it were to block everything, people would just spam it like they do with Blurred Frenzy.
Zaphiel Faires – DPS Guardian
There are still people who hope for a complete PvP-overhaul, and I can say with 100% guarantee that is not going to happen. Even though I fought for it about 1 ago.
There are still some cheese going on in terms of skills that are spammable being way too strong, and the risk/reward factor being out of balance with some classes.
I’m naturally talking about Engi and Ele in particular, but there are also skills like “Steal” which is completely out of balance. Though steal is not enough to make thieves OP, it’s still unbalanced.
If Engi and Ele gets fixed, what Anet really needs to do is buff weak traits and weapon-sets. It would be so incredibly easy to get DPS Guardians into the meta, so I don’t see why they won’t do it. And this applies to a lot of builds.
Zaphiel Faires – DPS Guardian
Well. Could be a few things.
1. Simply an interface/UI PvP-overhaul.
2. The ability to vote on maps in queues (after all players have been found).
3. Could be a pause feature, but why would it emphasize a specific map, instead of actually telling people it’s a pause.
Zaphiel Faires – DPS Guardian
Why are some people even discussing this?
Of course it needs to be fixed..
Zaphiel Faires – DPS Guardian

Then I have to assume it was off-point, and he was probably a PU-Mesmer as well.
Otherwise, well..

Yep. Too obvious.
This is not the way to call attention, although I agree there is a problem.
Zaphiel Faires – DPS Guardian
SNIPPET
Are we talking duels on a duel server or tpvp/spvp?
In sPvP there are fights that I do not take if they hold a point. I’d never engage against a Warrior since the fight would be too long, but the only class that I can never beat is engi.
They are incredibly strong in Conquest, but in duels I can manage a sustained fight that goes on forever.
25 stacks can be reached, and it’s all about doing a little mini-game trying not to waste any blastfinishers without a firefield, if you’re on a team with another ele or engi it’s obviously much easier.
Zaphiel Faires – DPS Guardian
These threads are pathetic. Seriously. Try browsing through your previous posts, you’d probably realize it was stupid.
“lol. Ele and Engi are not OP. Learn to play the class to counter it”
Stop this argument. It’s bad. You dont have to play a class to know when something is unbalanced.
I main D/D Ele and I think it’s fairly reasonable to nerf that spec. I would not nerf any of the abilities, but rather go for a change that hits Cele Engi as well, since IMO that build is even stronger (which in short is due to the extreme low cooldowns and kittenloads of skills). History shows that nerfing the healing is not the way to go, since Anet already tried that.
I think it’s obvious that Rune Of Strength is simply way too strong. Every single build is currently running that rune. That’s a pretty clear indicator to me. The might duration needs to be reduced by at least 20% or more.
Blasting a fire field has a base duration of 20 seconds. With 45% increase from runes and 30% from the traitline we almost double that duration, and it lands on 35 seconds.
This applies directly to Sigil of Battle as well, since the duration is the same.
This is obviously a huge deal in making celestial builds too strong. A reduction is necessary.
inc
Furthermore the synergy between might and the amulet is incredibly good. To me reducing the amount of condition damage you receive from each mightstack would be a reasonable change. The boon is simply too strong as it is, and promotes these weird hybrid builds that you can’t really counter since they bring both Direct and Condi damage to the fight.
Changing a Might Stack to grant: 35 Power and 15 Condition Damage could be a suggestion, that would hopefully not kill Might-stacking builds, but bring them in line. Keep in mind that 25 might-stacks would still grant 375 condition damage, which with the Celestial Amulet would be 813 and a burning damage for 438 per second.
Receiving 875 Power AND Condition Damage from a boon is way too much, since the duration is also incredibly long.
Another alternative would be to reduce the stacks of might granted, instead of reducing the duration. And to be honest I wont try to be clever on this one, since I don’t really know which change would be be best.
TL;DR:
Might as a boon is too strong, and 25 stacks can too easily be reached due to the extreme duration of Rune of Strength and Sigil Of Battle+Blast Finishers in general. Reduce the duration and the Condition Damage gained from Might.

(edited by KrisHQ.4719)
Shield of Judgement:
Create a shielding wave in front of you that damages and dazes foes, while granting protection to yourself and allies.
Protection (3 seconds)
Daze (1 second)
Damage increase by 20%
Shield of Absorption:
Create a dome around you that pushes foes back and block projectiles.
The detonation skill now scales better with healing power.
An increase from 20% to 55%, base 1300 remains the same.
(For the lazy, this change allows the shield to heal ~2k with a basic support build)
You could add a blast-finisher to the detonation if needed.
Only thing about these changes to take note of, is that Focus might become much weaker. Not because shield would become overpowered, but because focus is already pretty bad for an offhand weapon. People only use it because the other alternatives are even worse. Should this be the case, I would take away the damage increase from Shield Of Judgement and increase it slightly for Ray of Judgement and decrease the cooldown on Shield of Wrath by 5 seconds from 45 to 40.
I would also increase the projectile speed of Ray of Judgement, since we all know it’s a kittening joke to use. Never lands unless you are basically holding hands with your opponent.
This way, the focus would hopefully still be the offhand of choice for offensive guardians.
While we’re at it!
Flashing Blade:
The skill now has a base damage equally to an autoattack. Which is around 300.
Furthermore, the ability can now be used without a target. If so, the player blinks forward 600 range. (Can still be used with a target)
This change would still allow guardians to blink through the environment, but this could also be seen as a glitch (blinking into the clocktower on kyhlo), hence why there is another suggestion.
Alternative solution:
The skill now functions similarly to Warrior’s Whirldwind Attack. It is now a vector that can be placed in a specific direction. The guardian damages, blinds and interrupts foes that he passes with a slight knockback.
This change would be the better if the other solution would cause too many bugs due to the untargeted blink, also since it’s more difficult to land, a small interrupt would make up for it in teamfights where you can potentially hit a lot of enemies.
This would also grant the Guardian some soft CC which is really needed for more “epic plays”. At the moment nobody really wants to play guardian since you can’t really do anything but spam incredibly boring shouts.
Zealot’s Defense:
You can now move while using this ability, although with a decrease in movement speed similar to Whirling Wrath.
Edit:
I just read a post saying lowering cooldowns is not the way to go. And I have to agree, that’s why I changed my suggestion. Lowering the cooldowns simply creates more spam, and lessens wise usage of the skills. The cooldown could be reduced by 5 seconds to each skill though, since these are definitely in the higher end of the off-hand cooldowns. Then it would be 25 and 35, which is still a fairly high cooldown.

I’m perfectly ok with people thinking we’re op. Players hate getting beat, and need excuses, and it makes it easier for me to troll them. This is a discussion that obviously has no room for logic. People say us engineers are just defending our profession, but does anyone stop to think that maybe, just maybe, it’s because we’re the ones actually playing the profession and know what we’re talking about? !
lol. Anyone reading this?

Arenas are meant for people who:
- care about ranking
- care about serious training/rotation feel
- competitive scene
- want to do 5v5
Wut.. Are there people who care about solo-q rank?
Zaphiel Faires – DPS Guardian
This suggestion can not go by unnoticed again!
I remember approximately ½-1 year ago (or even more) there was a huge discussion in regards to this as well, and nothing was done.
Let’s see if we can make a change this time.
Not letting sigils proc on auto-attack might actually be a fairly easy solution.
There is a problem with this though, since should this apply to every sigil or just the on crit ones? What about sigil of doom or force?
Zaphiel Faires – DPS Guardian
celestial amulet is fine.
learn to play please.
There is no “learn to play” here. Cele ele is god tier at 1v1, you cant outskill them because theyre freaking OP AF. Cele engi is almost fine but they need a longer CD on the block. As it is, engi can delay forever by blocking while waiting for heal.
Yeah… No.
They aren’t god tier at 1v1’s. But I suppose from your perspective (playing thief) they are pretty much impossible to kill.
It also depends if we’re talking straight up duels in the Courtyard or encounters on a nodepoint. I gotta admit that Cele Eles are pretty much impossible to kill in an open-duel, which also goes for Engineer. On point however, I find it much less of a problem. Engineers, Rangers and Warriors are incredibly strong on point, since they have so much condi-spam, and they can all best an Elementalist if they play decently.
Zaphiel Faires – DPS Guardian
Well. I doesn’t have to be Glint’s Lair.
We see the Zephyrites getting shot down, and we assume that they somehow discovered or maybe even carried Glint’s offspring. Throughout the trailer we see a lot of crystals, that don’t really connect with Mordremoth, so those crystals could very well have something to do with that dragon. Furthermore, the dwarves had a pretty significant role in regards to Glint, so the fact that Ogden is either needed or introduced could suggest a Glint-reference as well.
Zaphiel Faires – DPS Guardian
Those crystals and the fact that Ogden shows up all point to something with Glint’s offspring.
Zaphiel Faires – DPS Guardian
Hahaha. I don’t even know how I should feel about this thread anymore.
Just freaking admit that Engineers are slightly out of control in casual PvP.
Sure, they are not overly used in high tier pvp, but that does not mean they shouldn’t get balanced. The REASON engineers are unbalanced atm is simply because of the effort they take to be skilled with, which is pretty much none.
Yes.. There are skilled engineers and less skilled ones, but the less skilled ones still benefit enormously in a solo-Q, since you can’t really be useless with an Engi.
The exact same problem we had with Warriors a few patches ago.
And now some engineers start to redirect the discussion onto Longbow Rangers?
Seriously? I don’t think I’ve ever died to a Longbow Ranger in PvP, since there is so much kiting/obstruct potential.
I honestly dont hold a grudge against any class, and try be as objective as possible at any time. It’s getting ridiculous that people always defend their main class. What do benefit from it? I honestly think it’s kittened. If you’re a good player, you’ll learn the accept that the class was out of balance and then adapt. In the long run its much better for the game.
Zaphiel Faires – DPS Guardian
Engineer is probably the best class atm.
Some of the skills are totally out of balance, though that does not necessarily make them gamebreakingly OP.
The fact that Poison Grenade can stack like 20s AoE poison is ridiculous.
And yes. Im aware that I should not stand in the circles, but that can be a little difficult in a 1v1 situation, where I dont want him to decap. The radius is also pretty solid since there are 3 fields.
Another thing is the health of turrets. I really only noticed this today where I specifically went for his Thumper Turret that was left behind. I simply could not kill it, not in time at least.
A turret should IMO be fairly easy to kill. This requires the engi to actually think about his turret placement, while nerfing that spec all the same.
Because let’s be honest there is a paradox here.
Logically ALL specs should be equally viable, but some builds are simply toxic for the game, which is for instance an AI build like Turret-Engineer. Having such specs in the meta is not good for the game, and then I don’t give a crap about equality rights.
They lower the skill-floor so much, that everyone can go into the game and be instantly beneficial for their team. That is not healthy for a competitive gamemode, and whether you want it or not, sPvP is and was designed to be.
Oh. And I forgot to mention Incendiary Powder. Why is that still in the game?
Since it’s a TRAIT it should as maximum grant 3s of burning including the available condi duration in sPvP, as long as its cooldown remain 10s.

I sure didn’t.
Zaphiel Faires – DPS Guardian
1. Spread out and attack various objectives simultaneously. Some of them will succeed.
2. Build ranged siege and actually defend it.
I NEVER play with the zerg, since I find it ridiculously boring and waste of time. But if it’s really a problem, then just add a cooldown for the skill.
Like “You can only use one siege disabler once per hour” – I could imagine having one dude running around disabling everything is frustrating.
Zaphiel Faires – DPS Guardian
(edited by KrisHQ.4719)
Rangers are definitely not OP, and I don’t even know if they are viable in high ranked team-q.
They are in a much better position now, but I have yet to lose against one. As a Medi Guard they are incredibly easy. Sure thing, if you’re unaware they can burst in a teamfight, but that’s how it should be. Then you simply gotta be more aware of who’s joining and leaving fights.
Edit:
In WvW they might be too much with their 1500 range, but as I keep stating over and over again. WvW will never be balanced with Food Buffs and ridiculous extra stats like Applied Fortitude. Even the armor-stats you can get are ridiculous. They would die instantly in a zerg-fight, which I believe is what WvW is about.
Zaphiel Faires – DPS Guardian

I actually tested various ways to destroy the projectile.
What I found out:
You cannot blind the skill. You will only blind the first impact, and not blind the fire field.
You can destroy the projectile with Swirling Winds or Zealot’s Defense.
You can dodge the initial impact, but it will still leave the fire field.
Nothing new there.
But
Interestingly enough, I found out that the skill is blockable.
If you have Aegis or another block, and the projectile hits you directly, you will block the projectile and the fire field will NOT be created.
So there are two ways to make sure Cleansing Ire does not trigger.
Zaphiel Faires – DPS Guardian
They should simply redo it like they did with Thieve’s “Choking Gas”.
Giving the skill an impact that lands, and that impact determines if the fire field will go off or not, and whether Cleansing Ire should trigger.
Does anyone know if you can blind the skill, or destroy the projectile?
Or does Cleansing Ire trigger the moment you fire the arrow?I still haven’t tested that yet but are you saying that Choking Gas only trigers if you hit someone? I thought the only change was the reveal on hit.
Nope. Sry for the bad explanation and confusion.
It does not only trigger if you hit. But they added a “hit” which reveals thieves.
What I meant was simply that Combustive Shot should have such a “trigger-hit”, which should be blockable, blindable, and dodgeable. Without the hit, the fire field should not trigger.
Zaphiel Faires – DPS Guardian
Just happened to me a few matches ago on Forest of Nifhel.
I suddenly crashed and got the standard error-message, when it tried to reconnect to the tPvP game, it instantly crashed again.
Zaphiel Faires – DPS Guardian
I always run 0/2/6/2/4
The reason is that my most difficult enemies are warriors and D/D eles. With 2 in Radiance I get Searing Flames, which prioritizes might and makes the fight A LOT easier than fighting a warrior with 20 stacks Might.
With 2 points in Honor I get almost perm vigor (OP) and then take Resolute Healer, because it is incredibly underrated in teamfights. If you’re fast, then it increases your chances to revive a mate by a large margin.
I run S/F & GS and Sigil of Doom on sword to better counter Warriors.
This variation is extremely powerful, since the extra 10% dmg from Zeal is not necessary to spike squishy targets anyway.
I can win against pretty much every profession, although Warriors have beem ALMOST impossible. With the new patch, I hope they’re going to be slightly easier.

Of course it makes sense to nerf Plague Form. It was a skill that could make you survive 30 people for 20 seconds, and did NOT prevent capturing of points. How the hell was that not broken?
Lich Form had auto-attacks that could one-shot light classes if specced with Sigils of Air and Fire.
Don’t be so blind, that you can’t see those things needed fixing.

Well. If he resets the fight, you will gain control of the capture point. So it’s kinda a win for you as well, depending on how fast he kills you afterwards.

Hey everyone!
Since my effort to assemble my own team failed (due to various reasons), I’m now in a hurry to join another team.
The team has to be moderately serious about the tournament, I’m playing to win my matches, and I expect you to do the same.
I’ve been playing sPvP since closed betas, with Elementalist and Guardian as my main classes. I won’t be playing bunker, so if you need a bunker-guardian, this is not the droid you’re looking for.
Some of you might have faced me IG, others probably don’t have a clue who I am. There is nothing that I can’t mechanically do as Ele, and I believe my fighting abilities are as solid as they get. That said, what I’d like to think I excel at is map awareness and creative thinking. I’ve always been competitive in sports and games, so it’s natural for me to pick up on these things.
If anybody cares (some do) I’m currently rank 129 in SoloQ’s.
Need a last man to complete your roster, and are you going for the gold? Hit me up, and we can hopefully play a few games.

Instant-cast Renewed Focus with 2 seconds invulnerability?
That would be ridiculous. Instant-cast skills are generally not a good idea, since they provide to counter-play, and are screwing with the risk/reward ratio.
Zaphiel Faires – DPS Guardian
None of these changes were game-changing, luckily.
Condition specs didn’t get the buff I feared, but yet power-specs didnt receive any either.
I don’t play Necromancer, but I can acknowledge when specs are out of balance. Power-necro is still only viable because of Lich Form, which is a horribly designed elite skill. The most powerful skill should NEVER be an auto-attack. They should’ve nerfed the auto-attack dmg while distributing the damage (or usefulness) of the other skills. Additionally to that, they should’ve increased the sustain for power specs only (dagger, axe).
On the bright side, these changes won’t break the game for another lame meta.
Zaphiel Faires – DPS Guardian
I literally laughed when they showed this change.
They increased the casting duration, and yet the skill is still impossible to see.
The necromancer lifts his hand slightly and then it’s already cast, I don’t see how the increased casting should help. The skill will now be dodged randomly more often, but that’s a change nobody wants.
Changing the cast-time is a good idea (since the skill is incredibly strong for an instant cast), but without changing the ridiculous telegraph as well, they should’ve left the skill untouched.

I can’t answer your question, because I have no idea what you’re asking.
I have not built to counter D/D Eles. I play D/D Ele, and I’m sitting here proposing a nerf – If that was your question.
Zaphiel Faires – DPS Guardian
@Sagat
I do not quite understand your post. I never said I wanted to nerf the power side of might? And what bleeds deal a lot of dmg as ele?
It seems you’re agreeing with me, that the condition damage is the problem?
Can you elaborate?Sarcasm……..the last possible thing I did was agreeing with you.
Well. From a sarcastic point of view, your post still does not make any sense.
I can’t really comment on your post, if it is not explained.Like you said : what bleed deals a lot of damage?even with burn and/or poison? Only zerkers with melee focus and poor boon dealing complain about celestial and your lack of toughness rather than direct damage turn you on conditions?! How is that possible or you wouldn’t like power build nerf? Did you build to counter celestial ele or to play what you like???
Burning and poison deals fair amounts of dmg throughout a fight, bleed does not however. Only if you land Churning Earth, then you can stack roughly 10 stacks.
I still don’t know what you’re suggestion is the cause. But I can assure you that conditions have a huge part in it. Otherwise, Elementalists would also be OP with Valkyrie’s Amulet.
Zaphiel Faires – DPS Guardian
@Narkodx
I’m having a hard time figuring out if you’re being sarcastic or not.
These suggestions make no sense at all. If you’re for real, have you even thought about these things or are you just typing something as you go along?
Try looking at PvP as objectively as possible, and refrain from craving buffs to your main profession if not necessary. You’re making the assumption that this is strictly asking for a buff. More experienced necro players are fully aware of a necro having 100% life force being an issue especially in 1v1, but a necro with no or little life force is a sitting duck. It’s unbalanced for someone at both ends. Most suggestions involve leveling that out by reducing life force hp but improving generation, as opposed to a flat buff to necromancers.
Most of these posts suggest flat out buffs to necromancers, in a ridiculous scale.
Changing some mechanics and altering some generation/HP numbers I assume is fine and without risk. Buffing the defenses are however not.
@Narko
I’ve played since Closed Beta and been around every class by now. I have not listed all my characters, only the ones I mainly use.
And of course you’re not the only one who wants extra sustain, all necromancers do.
