ArenaNet really dropped the ball on this. They should have launched the game for 10 days with no WvW, then locked down transfers all together to high population servers and opened WvW up.
Obviously 5x blast finishers on mine field can be abused, but I think ArenaNet dropped the ball with how they “fixed” the issue by simply removing the blast finishers from mine field. I mean, let’s get real, the combat in GW2 is very vanilla, with combo field + finisher interactions being the only interesting mechanic, and by taking away yet another finisher from engineers (hello… Big ’Ole Bomb… fix it please…), they are just “cutting off the nose to spite the face.”
This is what should happen:
If a player runs over a mine (from mind field or throw mine) it explodes and act as a Blast Finisher.
Detonate Mine Field – Detonates all mines and creates a single Blast Finisher on the Player.
This means if you kite a person through all 5 mines, you are rewarded with 5 blast finishers or you have the choice to detonate your mines for an “on demand” blast finisher. It would take a lot of attention and skill to get all of these to blow up in a field, but hey, I am all about adding challenges that greatly reward the player when executed well.
If it is that easy to “disable” the blast finisher on Mine Field, it should be just as easy to “enable” the blast finisher on BoB. So when is that coming?
Tell you what, we will stop using catapults behind gates when your AoE and Catapults stop rendering repair of the gates/walls impossible. Do we have an accord?
This is one of my biggest pet peeves. The insistence that WvW is for casuals and SPvP is for the hardcore. I feel it is exactly the opposite. SPvP takes no dedication or commitment unless you are doing tournaments, and even then WvW takes way more investment than SPvP. More strategy, gold, gear, and people.
I feel it is disrespectful to the players to insist that WvW be designed around the casual, instead of the people who live it and dedicate themselves to it.
I agree with you. I think a lot of people see WvW as accessible to the masses (all it takes is a click and a wish you beat the queue monster to join), and thus think it must be “casual” since anyone can participate. I think we all know this line of thinking is wrong.
Mike, thanks for letting us all know you guys are concerned, just as we are. I highly suggest reading Amulrei’s post, as that shares my feelings on this subject to a “T”.
Please disable free server transfers before hand or people will continue to abuse the fact they can freely move groups between servers.
This. Server populations are already borked due to free, unrestricted transfers during the 24hr matches. With One Week matches coming into play, which will show more indicative results for the eventual, permanent, Two Week matches, ArenaNet really needs to shut down transfers to the top 5 servers NOW. If a server falls out of the Top 5 over the next few weeks due to the longer matches, then open them up, but the Top 5 servers should never be allowed to accept transfers.
