Ladylad I think that it depends on how you play.
You can use almost every class, run with a zerg when you find some enemies jump in the middle hit them and flee away …
if your zerg wins you’ll get credit, if it loses you are far away and you won’t get killed.
I have almost 15k kills on my ranger and 12 deaths … (here some random numbers for you)
I run solo 99% of the time. We’re not talking zerg on zerg fights here, where what you play doesn’t matter.
How many classes can outrun a thief again? There’s decent arguments on both sides, that isn’t one of them.
Ele / warrior / ranger / engi
There is no possible way a Warrior, Ranger, or Engineer is going to outrun my Thief. The Elementalist can, kind of. I can keep up with most of them trying to run.
Slot a Shortbow if you’re being caught by the slower classes.

We’re not talking about a infinite distance. It doesn’t take long to get to a tower/spawn/keep/supply camp to be safe.
That doesn’t change anything really. Quit attacking people who’re standing in Guard agro range of a keep, or tower. I can kill most classes before they get a chance to move at all, those who do move die a few seconds later, unless they’re an Elementalist. Remember the bow teleport also applies an area blind, so quit using it only as a get away free tool.
And if you’re dying to Elementalists, don’t stop moving. The more you move, the harder it is for them to hit you. You don’t always have to be on top of them either. Switch to your Shortbow, and actually use the weapon once in awhile. If you’re a Pistol build, you have no excuses, you should never lose to an Elementalist.

If your having problems with a thief whilst playing a guardian, theres learn to play issues.
I smoke most Guardians on my Thief. Why do you have problems?
And most players are really, really bad.
This includes Thieves. It’s just that the profession is far more forgiving than the other professions.
Even still, you should rarely if ever die. It’s comical to hear Thieves talk about dying. I’ve got a newish Thief with just over 5k kills, and roughly 23 deaths. Each time I’ve died, it was because I made some bonehead mistake.
It’s amazing though. I can jump on the Thief, and all of a sudden I’m a God at playing this game, but when I jump on my ohter toons, somehow I forget how to play. How amazing is that?
I just wish Toughness + Armor mattered. I’ve had Thieves hit me in Plague form, which gives me (4,322 Toughness / 5,181 Armor) for as much as 10k damage with a backstab. This should never happen under those circumstances. It only makes Armor worthless. I have to give up a very large amount of my damage to get this level of defense.
I have a theory this is related to %crit dmg. in that it is ignoring armor when calculating add bonus tacked on. But this will not matter because cti dmg is limited in sPvP and that is only thing Anet balances against when it comes to thieves.
If it is ignoring armor, it shouldn’t and it needs to be fixed.

<walks away laughing>One of the reasons why the Ranger and pet are built the way that they are, is because if we gave the ranger all the power, then the pet would have to be useless and vestigial, or everyone would claim rangers are OP. That’s one of the core reasons we can’t just increase pet attribute numbers. Without a method for avoiding damage, it also means your pet takes 4 hits in dungeons instead of only 2 or 3, so it doesn’t really solve the problem.
We have WvW reps in the balance meeting as well, so I’ll be sure to poke and prod them about ranger pets in zerg battles to get their opinions. Personally I tend to do well keeping a pet non-hostile until the zergs actually clash – then switching him to hostile and managing his target. Otherwise when I try to shoot some arrows at somebody, Cuddles the Black Widow decides it is time to charge into battle. I really don’t feel like this is a bad solution. While most people may resist it, if you want your pet to charge the front line and lead the attack, consider grabbing up the signet that makes your pet invulnerable for a few seconds.@Swagg – that’s a lovely chart
So while we’re forced to stay at range, at half power because our pet is half of what we are, a Thief, Elementalist, Guardian, Warrior or Mesmer can dart into the Zerg, and back out of the Zerg at full power, while we get to watch until the entire force decides to move in?
I’m glad I left the Ranger right after pre-release.
im sorry but no non defense specced chr hops in and out of a zerg, it generally requires using specific abilities, for ranger this amounts to,
go in with your 2nd most loved pet
cause some havoc, swap pet out
use signet of stone to be invulnerable for 6 seconds with trait
use signet of wild to be stable and get out.not really that different to a mesmer specing for reflection on distortion, and equiping utilities for reflection and null field.
fact is no one goes in and out of zerg easily. and its not really realistic to ignore the fact that you can essentially have your pet do damage while you are safe, while you are doing something totally different, and swap it out at least 1 time with no penalties.
Yeah, aoe is a problem in WvW more because when you are trying to control your pet you have few actual controls, adding some sort of player controlled reactive ability is the difference between lasting long enough to swap, or not
I actually do go into the Zerg easily, and get kills on my Thief, my Mesmer, and my Elementalist.
It’s an entirely different game for these classes.
It’s night and day difference honestly. A full day on my Ranger, I thought I was doing good getting 100 badges. A full day on my other three classes it is unusual if I don’t get a full stack (250) badges.
The thing I can’t wrap my head around is that it seems Rangers are ok with mediocre. I really don’t care because I can always play the other classes, and if they don’t fix the Ranger, Necro, or Engineer soon, I’ll just delete them so I don’t have to look at time wasted every time I log into the game, or switch toons.

That is the biggest issue with Thieves. They get the best defenses (Teleports + Stealth), while having the best damage in the game for WvW. The Thief doesn’t have to give up defense for offense, instead the more offense they have, the better defense they have because a dead opponent can not attack back.
No smart Thief is going to die to AEs either, hell, no smart player is going to die to AEs. The game already gives you a big red circle on the ground, telling you to move, or dodge.
This makes finding them, and damaging them in stealth near impossible.

Everybody don’t forget to go to the TCMM meeting tonight at 10pm EST at tcmm.teamspeak3.com
At least he doesn’t hold these meetings anymore minutes after restart.
First off, in order to end all this 2v1 whining, lets all agree that today BP and AR can only fight each other. DH will just take the grub and relax. Tomorrow DH and BP can fight then Friday DH and AR will go at it. This way no one can cry about a double team (even though it is impossible in a 3 way fight for someone not to be double teamed-when will everyone realize that)
On a side note, I have thoroughly enjoyed this week’s matchup. Hats off to AR and BP ona fun week of fighting. Now if only we could get the minority to stop complaining about things that happen to all servers
Deal, but we get the Grub!!!
It has been a fun week.
So… Does AR and BP fight eachother? All the map Screenies I’ve seen so far has nothing going on in either of there BLs.. it’s all in ours. lol
You guys have been hitting AR since you’ve got into this tier, non-stop. Did you not expect the same treatment in return? You’ve barely touched BPBL actually, and AR has taken more in the BPBL than has DH.
It’s just unfortunate for you that BP loves SM, and you guys appear to have the same love. Therefore you’ll be fighting BP all week for SM.
@Robert Hrouda
Masters Bond, Beastmastery Trait is practically worthless because we change pets so frequently, or they die so frequently you can not make good use of this trait.
Why not make it so that Masters Bond actually creates a Bond with our pet(s), and they get 10% of our total stats, across the board? This way every pet is unique to its Masters build.
