I tend to choose realistic names for my characters. My Sylvari are named using various Latin names for plants, or derivatives of the Latin names. For example, one of my girls is named Betula Pendulae, which is a variant on the Latin name for “little-leaf linden tree”.

I tend to have fun with my Ranger pet names, above anything else. For example:

Spider: Skitter
Black Jaguar: Sleek
Eagle: Nobility
White Owl: Wisdom
Shark: Chompy (really need a new one, ever since I discovered the pirate puzzle in LA)
Armored Fish: Gauntlet
Fern Hound: Canteloupe

And so on. Nothing really mind-blowing, I am just slightly whimsical with my pets

I have a terrific Asura name ready to roll… which I would absolutely use, if I didn’t find the Asurans to be so insufferably egotistical.

pet names:
black widow: twitchy the red
jaguar: blinky
devourer: whippy and lashy.
red reef drake: bumpy

i didnt name my armoured fish or shark. or any other pets.. but if i had to… fish: stinky and the shark is bruce.

Name: little old lady Human ranger.
Server: sea of sorrow
Time: 5-12pm Tokyo time.
Interests: pve mostly. Leveling alts, doing personal stories. But PvP is ok and WvW might be fun with a party. I don’t like the ping pong back re take re take retake of the same supply came.

Since I live in Tokyo Japan I usually play with aussies or people in Asia. I formed my own guild and am slowly unlocking stuff. I’m a very active casual player. I try to play everyday, but I’m in no rush to farm something. I finished my main’s personal story in September 2012…so just doing alts.

See you in game.

I’m on Sea of Sorrows and in the TacSym guild.

I never can get a group together because everyone is playing WvW or in high level fractals. I don’t have the time to dedicate multiple hours a day to the game so 99% of my play is completely solo PvE. Now I have 90% world completion and can’t finish Malchor’s Leap or Arrah because I don’t have anyone else to group up with to finish it.

Anyone else do a lot of PvE on Sea of Sorrows?

Hello sea of sorrows pve player here. I live in Tokyo so I’m on around 5-12pm my time. I’m leveling alts ranging from level 15-75. I was just going to post looking for players when I say your post

Just as a note (as a female player who always facepalms a little at the ‘how to make your character sexy’ discussions outside of this thread) – it’s true that charr and asura females will not get skimpy/sexy armour, and that they tend to get versions which fit much closer to the armour’s appearance on a human male. Sometimes, this can still look really cool. If you make a human/sylvari/norn female, she will have access to skimpy/sexy/skin-showing armour, but she will also have access to plenty of more reasonable and/or modest armour styles. Thank the Six Gods, not every female caster set in this game insists on exploitative sexuality

Also, am I the only person who finds that skimpy armour looks a lot less suggestive and skimpy on sylvari females? I think it’s because although they show skin, it’s not a human skin colour, so it looks more like part of an outfit, haha. Plus, I do like showing off the luminescence on my sylvari, which skimpier sets do allow a lot more.

I want a skimpy armor option for all my male characters. In gw1 we had necros running around in Speedos and tatoos.. its a bit sexist to think only females can show skin. Man cleavage is sexy too. Look at Borat.

No GW2 Expansions or Sequels (Anytime Soon)

i think the word expansion means different things to different people. is adding more content into the game an expansion? if you do it for free is it an expansion or only if you have to pay for it? and how does all that expanded paid for content mix with the living world for those that didnt buy the expansion. is adding character slots and gemstore only items dlc upgradeing to deluxe edition a mini expansion?
so the new content we get each month for free is an expansion of content. they are “expanding” every month. but the big “pay us for this optional content” may not be defined nor release date set. what expansion will be free what will they ask money for?

yeah… another topic i can help out with. so as an alt-aholic. i at lease one of each professions and 2 or three of each race. i wanted to play the differnt story lines. at lease until claw island. i have deleted some characters. so i planned it out.. what to make what and which order they would join.

for me it came down to play style and which racial skills would fit the profession. but…. i didnt want to have 5 of the same profession just to try out all the racial skills combination.

so my guardians are a norn and a sylvari,
my mesmer is sylvari.

if i had to choose between human and asura for guardian and mes the answer is easy human guardian, asura mes.

because. you can remove a lot of conditions and get boons as human from your racial skills, thats what a guarian is doing.

the asura can drop a poison field do technobable and daze.. plus its got robots…which you can use as a divertion along with your clones. mes army.

Reason GW1 players feel so bleh in my opinion

Little Old Lady.3742

Good points brought up. I think many guild wars 1 players are looking at gw2 with 7 year old gw1 glasses. I do it sometimes myself. “Come on.. get to the war for kryta bounalready….”. Completely forgetting they were added years after the launch. I do miss many of the features we had in gw1 but we have to give gw2 time to grow and develope its own features.

Sure some of the sliders in gw2 changed. Allowing higher caps and harder baddies, but they are in relation to one another. A lot of the stuff we got to do after level 20 in gw1 were ablility unlocks. Change secondary professions, or be ableto fight Mursaat or enter hard mode or the mysts. I agree that gw2 is missing some of those after max level ablity unlocks but…. You have to give them time to see how the game is going and add them in later if needed. I know I want to be able to join another order and get daily/weekly missions from my order… Or even retrain my character as a different profession. Same character but can swap professions. Not dual but change my ranger into a starter engineer. LIke I can have two crafting disciplines but two professions….but 6 months in…vs a 7 year old game… It’s not comparing apple’s to apple’s…. Bring back tibbalt, kill trahearn

Great I wrote a long replay and then got a network error and lost it… So again…

First thing. The forums are full of trolls and complainers. If you scroll down the topics list you can see for yourself. They hang out here because its easy to click the ignore tab in game and not have to deal with them. I am at work so I’m on the forums trying to be helpful, at home I’m playing the game.

Since you played for 2 months you know a bit about the world. Humans …charr.. and the other races.

The advice depends on how you play and what you want to get out of the game. I have been in gw2 since first beta weekend. And gw1 for 7 years. I am an alt-aholic. Finished my main and started leveling alts. So somehints of what to expect.

To start:
Selecting a server. This is important now since you have to pay to transfer. You should check guild wars guru or wiki to see the “unofficial”/official language. Some server have large guilds focused on WvW while others focus on role-playing. According to the wiki. If you delete all of your characters you can change servers without having to pay the gem price. Since you are starting out you might want to look into that.

Character slots:
Check wiki for the overview of skills for each profession. The racial skills are nice but they don’t make a warrior from race. X so much better than a warrior from race Y. The character creation choices determine what your personal story will be like. Check the wiki for spoilers. Start the game

Personal story:
You will get to a point where you are not high enough/strong enough to do the personal story. They have a recommended level next to the story mission name. If you are too low it will be in red. It’s kind of a “flow breaker”. Hero quick run to the town and warn them about the attack. “hold on… I’m not high enough level for this part. Give me a week or two toalevel up and will go warn the town…” The personal stories merge around level 40 so if you start your story after you reach level 30 you can do the beginning parts smoothly. It’s easier to get a group to do the story if they can all get credit for it.

Crafting:
Cook and jeweler are a bit unique. Armor and weapons drop from mobs all the time and you can find them in chests, but food and accessories are rare. You can get them from the personal story rewards or buy them from the trading post or craft them. Green items are cheap and easy to get. So just use them until 80 when you can focus on looks and quality. If you get a rare at low level you will just out grow it…. But the skin might be cool so if you save it you can transfigure a max stat item to look like the low level rare. But that isn’t really done at beginner level. Just a heads up.

Spvp is good for short play sessions. You can get your PvP daily quickly.

WvW can take a long time. Depending on your server and time of day it can be chaos or somewhat organized.

Guilds can help you do some stuff and now they can do guild missions. Currently large guilds can unlock guild missions easily. Small guilds don’t/ can not easily gain the influence needed to unlock stuff. So small fish in a big pond, or a big fish in a small pond. Which isbettter?

Getting to level 80 is good because you can use all the max level gear. Unless you are farming for materials for crafting your level 80 might be hanging around lower level zones to do events. So its not really a race to 80. Unless you really want to do the low level zones downleveled but wearing max gear.

I think that is a general overview of the game. Traits and builds can be found on wiki or other sites. But spending gold on specific runes for under level 80 gear seems a waste. Get good at dodging, adjust your key bindings and have fun. Good luck.

Big points that Anet wanted to do with this game is remove the holy trinity so players are not waiting in towns spamming “looking for monk”

The players are out running around doing stuff. All kinds of stuff to do and
so many different kinds of rewards (currency) that it lends itself well to being played casually.

Log in, walk over to a plant and harvest it… Oh look you got an onion and a dye. Now you can be pink and antique gold… Log out.

I think its fun to name them something original then have the npc refer to you seriouly as a silly name. " oh no.. the centars are attacking… only you…Mr fluffy pants, can save us. " as for the quality of names XxrippingixX or Anthromorphicous Slaughtertron III those names are just really long or dont really single you out. you realize it is a hassle tring to type out an invite to those characters. and then tring to chat with them in party. so. i try to keep my names simple but fun.

Starting Casual Guild in Asia / SoS server.

in Guilds

Posted by: Little Old Lady.3742

Little Old Lady.3742

Hello, I would like to start a guild for casuals / weekenders / slacking off of work type of people.

Do you enjoy walking around starter areas and killing innocent rabbits? Do you like standing around lions arch chatting or maybe trying a jumping puzzle just to laugh at your friends as they fall. Do you laugh at yourself when you die? Do you think “destinys edge” is a singing group? Is a legendary weapon not even on the radar? Do you have an animated figure next to your computer? Do you ask random people in a map what they feel like doing and then helping them out. Do you like jumping as you run because its kind of like skipping. If so, then you just might be casual enough to join.

I started a guild called Robot Adventurers [RA] because I like robots / mech stuff. (Transformers and Gundams) I would like to play with players who play the game to have fun, not as some kind of grind / second job.

About myself. I live in Japan, so I am on the sea of sorrows server. I do not WvW much even when SoS was a top server. It requires a lot of coordination. I love the guild wars universe. 7 years in gw1 and I am an alt-aholic… GW2 I have bought the extra slots and slowly leveling all professions. I finished off my personal story about 5 weeks after launch. Story bugs blocked my progress, and now I am playing alts. My main is a human ranger but I like playing all the races and professions. It’s nice to see how the stories tie in. I never liked being asked to contribute x amount of factions or log in at a specific time for something. So I don’t ask anything from members other than be helpful. I understand that personalities are sometimes hard to balance so I tried to make it obvious that the hardcore grinder or noob hater won’t fit in. I understand that the new guild missions are something to shoot for in a guild but being small and casual it takes a while. I am hoping that some kind of alliance will be introduced to allow small guilds to unite to unlock the guild missions. Until then, ill slowly keep gaining influence. By the time the missions are unlocked I’m hopeful that well have enough casual players to try.

I personally like to play almost everyday, but I don’t expect others to. Living in Japan, I play when a lot of NA is asleep. I usually run around with a small pick up party I find on the map. Aussies, Singapore, other Asian countries. So…If you are in the time zone and looking to actively stand around before accidentally killing a moa bird then whisper me at:

Little old lady

Represent the guild while hanging out doing something, and then go represent another guild if you like. Remember its a game, so have fun.

thanks for some replies.

im not sure what percentange of the player base Anet would to have in certain areas. pve, spvp, or wvw. but i think Anet would like it if the players mixed more. it is one of the reasons we have dailys asking… (not forcing us ) to go to other zones other maps.. all level 80s hang out in orr. adding the living story in the beginning zones of two races has repopulated them. that helps out new players and helps the community. so im thinking players having fun in all areas is a good goal. so i tried to figure out a way to get pve players in wvw. sometimes i hear in chat some wvw asking for more poeple to join to help defend or take something. but then to get into WvW and get PvE players “go back to pve. dont distract us, dont touch that supply. noob!” that kind of “inclusive” attitude keeps people away, not to mention the zerg, and the endless pounding on gates.

the chat hate for PvE/non hard core WvW player is fine. you just smile and think of grumpy kids not wanting to share their toys. you cant judge the WvW community based on a few noisy bad apples. if WvW was more interesting for pve players i know i would play a lot more in WvW.

the goal was to lure PvE plays into WvW to help out. get PvE plays into the boarderlands and maybe they will help take a keep. because right now if you ask PvE players to join WvW, many would just ignore you.

but… if you gave pve players a way to contribute to WvW that didnt require them to joikittenerg and pound on gates over and over, then they might do it.
so i suggested events and ways to not get killed by zergs. defend the supply camp from a dredge attack. Or better yet defend the miners, that supply the supply camp with supplies, from a dredge attack. Something far away from the front line that they wouldnt have to deal with invaders.

there was some talk about added more maps to WvW. If those maps could be a place for resource gathering free from invaders, the PvE player who loves running around doing events killing mobs and gathering resourses. Takes his stack of soulbound WvW wood (no buying it off the trading post) and deposits it at a supply camp at the edge of the map, in exchange for tokens or something. That supply camp is connected to the boarderlands. The deposited supplies would then go to the supply camps in the boarderlands and the WvW take them away.

You would then have the PvE players in WvW contributing by doing pve stuff and the WvW people using the supplies to pound of gates. (can you tell I don’t like pounding on gates?)

This is New idea for an event, but I think it is still a good way to lure pve players by doing events.

What do you think might work? “you are a dummyhead!” That is a cute answer but not very constructive.

So… how about we get some 15 players with free time, and go hang around at either of the opponents spawn tower?
Sure, once they toggle, they can’t escape back to untargettable for a while. But they don’t need to. They will create immense psychological pressure to the enemy team just by being there: if they don’t have people at the tower vigilant at all times, those 15 players will take over it in a flash.
Who wants to sacrifice their WvW fun just to monitor 15 afk players of the opponent team that you can’t even hurt?
“But the 15 afk players are sacri…” no. They have the choise. They don’t have to be there, but just to troll, I am sure they will. They’re sacrificing nothing, maybe they are even having a guild meeting or something in a fairly exotic place, and the meeting doubles as a WvW bluff.

Besides, who would want to have invaders that you can’t hurt hanging at your front door?

And spies wouldn’t need to swap the server. Just flag as untargettable and go sit on chokepoints, infrom team via TS/Vent on movements on the chokepoint. Or even just run around with the opponent zerg.
It’s major problem if you try to win an opponent that has superior numbers online: you can’t face them from the front, you need to take some unexpectable route, cap fast and move. If the opponent knows you’re there, its a no go.

Not to mention that, while you are defending stonemist, it is clear your team has lost. While already being inside on your mesmer, you go into untargettable mode. Don’t ya think thats a problem?

thanks for the reply.

so like i said im not a big WvW one of the reasons is the zerg. i may be wrong, or it just may be the way the game is played. but the zerg caps a tower and then leaves .. there doesnt seem to be a reason to hang around the tower unless it being attacked. so the zerg is just pinballing around point to point. and its kind of easy to see where the zerg is if its over 25 and has cross swords.

if you are AFK then you cant really follow one of the the mini zergs around.

so i suggested a transitionary period. where if a group of 15 were hanging around outside a keep as untargetable, then they tried to change to targetable and attack. they would have to make themselves targets before they could target anything WvW related. so the NPC defending the forts could attack them but the spies/invaders could not attack back. if they were rooted in place while changing for untargetable/neutral to targetable/invader and could not move to escape an attack they would be free kills for anyone. if they left the area to get out of range from the guards then it would be the same as a group of 15 people coming to attack a fort. the
safest place to toggle from neutral into invader would be somewhere far away from other players. As i suggested, the neutral/untargetable players can not see who is good or bad, other players are all the same color. it would be best to retreat far back near the spawn point.

is there any reason/ benefit for people not joing the zerg and staying to defend a tower from attack?

if you had creature mobs attacking the fortress not only players and you could get easy kills off rooted spies trying toggle from untargetable to invaider, then i think some people might hang around the forts.

what do you think?

So I flag myself as untargetable run up to enemy keep and follow thier zerg around and use /m or /s to report exactly what they are doing. Enemy zerg can do nothing to me. How is that not a spy exploit?

thanks for the replay. its good to poke holes and flush out the ideas…

so i was thinking..

/s has a limited range. and /m lets everyone know. and the other side could do the same to the other team. if you were neutral you could show the characters name. or just remove the /m ability. have a neutral chat. if other players are close enough to hear the /s then they are also close enough to see the zerg.

the orange cross swords already shows where the big zerg is. if people tried to set up spies it would shrink the zergs to stay under 25 not trigger the cross swords.

any spy/neutral player would not get any credit for capturing the point. they would be just spending all the time with no reward. if they died from a mob non in the zerg could rez them. another neutral spy could res them but then you would know you have another spy.

when the zerg gets to the destination they cant do help defend against the zerg attack. and to top it all off…

players who choose to be neutral can only tell other neutral players. every non neutral player/WvW player is the same color. you can not tell who is on your server or who is on the other servers.

giving this more thought… with the player number cap. it might be exploitable. for example. guesting cant WvW. so a server would have to get spies to spend gems to transfer to the opposing servers and then enter WvW in large enough amounts to lower the WvW players to give the advantage to one server. that seems like a lot of real money being spent on server transfers week to week, with no rewards for any of the spies because they cant cap anything. and also maybe set a limit for the percentage of neutral players.

“if they dont use game chat they could use team speak and tell the server where the zerg is.”
they are still facing no rewards for just spying.

my question; how major an issue is spying? is it better to get lots of pve players to run in WvW and help with some events or have a spy?
Defend the supply camp from the broodmother. any spy would be forced to help the other servers or just waist time spying.

imagine the confusion when the spy cant tell which server is attacking (because everyone is the same color) who the reinforcements are, who got killed a good guy or a bad guy? even teamspeak wont help.

i think at that point spying would lose a lot of its effectiveness. you could not run a WvW player with a neutral/spy to tell the players apart because the WvW player could just be targeted and killed.

what do you think?

Ok I’m a pve mostly player. I have a whooping 215 WvW kills. Those were done for monthlys. So to list off all the reasons pve players don’t WvW or PvP so much would be beating a dead horse. We like doing events with our friends and other players and not be griefed by a huge zerg that comes out of nowhere and kills us all.

“Ok you guys ready? The Boss likes to AoE ,so watch the circles. Res as soon as someone
gets downed and…. Great..ZERG!…. And now we are all dead… WvW sucks”

So add pve type events like the skritt, and or a map boss that is hostile to everyone.

Key point: allow players to toggle between targetable/invader or untargetable/neutral. Kind of like the pets can change their aggression status.

“That sucks! You will have spies.”
You don’t allow them into any fort or building, and they can not use team chat. They can only use /s or /m.

“They will stand there being untargetable and then toggle/change to targetable and attack anything. Like a trojian horse.”
You put the toggle on a really long cool down. Or you add a stage where they are targetable but they can not target others. So any type of sneaky infiltration would make them sitting ducks.

“They will attack the krait and get the quaggen help.”
But they are neutral, and they can’t target other players. 5 neutral players and one WvW player vs. 2 WvW players from another server. The 5 neutral plays can’t do anything and its a 2 on 1situation.

I think a lot of PvE players would like to do new events if they were in WvW as long as they didn’t have to kill other players. And then… After you got them in WvW. They decide to stay….. And maybe help out with taking a tower. Or help take on the map boss as the other WvW players take shots at each other along with the trying to take down the boss. How often do pve players get to set up and shoot trebuchet or arrow carts at huge bosses? Not very often?

It would be fun to make all players on the map neutral for the boss and then after its dead. Have a count down before all hell broke loose again. That would totally be fun.

im on the sea of sorrows server because i live in japan. i play with aussies usually. they are on when i am on so it works out well. i didnt wvw much and only did it for the monthly. i have a whooping 215 kills. this topic should have been called “pve players please come into wvw. pretty please.”, or “why dont pve players like wvw?”
sea of sorrows was the top server for a while then the big shift-a-roo and now i think its JQ. and all that time in the top tier , where the action is “epic” and super dooper/neato torpedo, i barely went into wvw.
Why? uhm…. too many cooks. if you turn off your game bgm and played the ending song from benny hill it would be a perfect match. the supply camp is being taken. then retaken and retaken, back and forth. zerg!… oh i tried to help kill something but it was dead before i could get to it. let me scout out and let the team know when suppy camp will be retaken for the Nth time. oh yeah a bunch of invisible thieves. jumping puzzle griefers more fun. dont use the supplies on that. need help over here … dont listen to him. we need help here. noob….

or…..

la de da… enjoying the nice day… oh look some bad guys over there in that fort. lets see if we can take them. ok wow that door didnt make 50 people 5 minutes to knock down. now we can go do something else. even in spvp you get different maps every few minutes.

so to answer the questions how to get pve players in wvw. uhm.. make wvw like pve, remove the annoying parts of wvw, but you realize that by fixing it. you might lose what makes wvw enjoyable for those players.

Let pve players wander around the map but be able to toggle between targetable and untargetable and restrict the text chat. But of course they wouldn’t be allowed in the forts… I’ll make the suggestion.

The Historians were in all main cities and a part of the “Bonus Mission Pack” which . . . by the way, was some of the most awesome crafted missions I played out of Guild Wars 1. I really enjoyed Saul’s story.

i ment the historians that allowed characters from other campaigns to play missions that were done before they came to the continent.

They can focus the expansion around the durman priory pet chicken cluckers joins the tengu for wacky adventures. Eating donuts in Orr.

what is in the expansion?

Hello, I started this topic to speculate about how ANet could introduce the expansion. Based on a few things stated and the nature of the game.

Background: So in guild wars 1 we had 2 stand alone campaigns and 1 expansion. So the problem was that if you didn’t have the other campaigns then you couldn’t play with some people, do some missions, and travel to some places. So the player base was fragmented.
The campaigns we nice because they added new professions and skills along with the all the story and new maps. The dual profession skill combinations got really wild and balance was an issue.

So we want to avoid fragmenting the player base and don’t want to add so many skills that balance is hard to maintain.

Currently (spoiler) Zhaitan is dead. I killed him. I killed him while “Destinys Edge” stood there and watched. “Hey, can I get a res… No? You are just going to let me die.. thanks.” Just between you and me….I am the hero of Sheamoor. So anyway, to try to weave an expansion story into the death of Zhaitan doesn’t fit well. We have to have people with the expansion and those without it playing in the same area at the same time.

How do we get Tengu or Kodan (taken for granted that they will be a playable race) walking around Lions Arch without them concerned about Zhaitan?

How do you get the humans, charr, asura, Norn, sylvari into “the birds nest” (Tengu city name) or “the chilly iceberg of reflection” (Kodan city name)?

Answer. The tengu and kodan are getting ready to fight some other dragon/monster bad guy thing, so they don’t care so much about zhaitan, which I have already killed. Hero of sheamoor, all day hero of Shea…moor.. and they cities are gated. If you don’t have the expansion you can not get into that area. The Dominion of DS9. I mean winds, big gate big gate, chilly iceberg.. isolated.

But you say. Elona… Cantha… Come on…

Cantha isn’t even on the map, elona boarders the crystal desert. But shouldn’t we open up the map we got before we start on another continent?

So… Expansion. I’m thinking New playable races. With new racial skills. So that it doesn’t create crazy imbalance. The personal story of a old race would have you kill off zhaitain.. ,well a copy of zhaitan, I killed the real one. HoS! Then you could get invited to lead or set up the orders in the new maps. Or they would have add new orders because you don’t see the Tengu in the ranks now.

So in the end. The Tengu and Kodan can wander around the other cities, but the people who don’t have the expansion will have limited or no access to the new zones. The personal stories are different, the New skills are just racial and easy to balance, the rangers can capture new pets, for the hundredth time. Monty python rabbit. Make it a checkered giant. They are huge at least the size of the snow owl. Other professions could get a kill like the digital edition hound elite. Game not broken, I killed zhaitan, I get killer rabbit as a pet, and everyone is happy. Yes?

The story can be you play as an XXXXX race and kill YYYY boss, but I think this is the way they expansion would work best.

Chronologically, I don’t think it would work to have the Tengu help kill Zhaitan. There is no Tengu in Destiny’s Edge, and all throughout the Zhaitan storyline (which right now is the “present”) the Dominion of Winds has been cut off.

I think they’ll split up the playerbase regardless of what they choose. Maybe the extent of splitting is what they’re trying to mediate. And the tedious work of added tutorials is a good reason not to use campaigns. Like you said, as long as we get the advantages of a GW1-type campaign when Anet releases GW2 expansions, I’ll be happy. While I’m enjoying the Living Story and the patch content, I don’t think I’ll be satisfied with GW2’s development if it doesn’t eventually add new races, maps, weapons/armor, skills & traits, etc. It’s likely other people feel this way as well.

Yeah I want that too. The armor / weapon skins are easy to do. Tricky to balance the skills traits. If they just added a new race without a profession they would only have to add the racial skills and that might be easy.

The tricky part is adding the new content maps and races and have them mix with the people who don’t have the expansion. Yeah the time lines wouldn’t match. And destinys edge does a bit. But really they just stand around and let you die. Their story is mostly in the dungeons. It would be more work to add a completely new personal story just for the new race than to have them join the exsisting story.

Ok how about this…. Release the maps to everyone. But only those with the expansion get to play as and do the tengu personal story where they fight the karka/butterflyers…. They might have to introduce a new order or group. Because we don’t see them hanging around the main offices.

This turned into me speculating about what will be in the expansion. I should make a tread.

Not that surprising. Many people are actually having fun here. I wish more of them posted on the forums, but I think most people’s personally allotted GW2-time is spent actually playing the game, or otherwise not bothering with forum drama.

I’m at work right now. So I can’t play the game. But you are right. There are few positive posters. I just ignore the threads that ask leading questions or are just complaints.

“why I’m leaving guild wars”. Is guild wars dieing? New blah blah is so broken. Can I please get some great looking something for doing nothing. And on and on and on…

Expansions vs. Campaigns?

i want campaigns, but if they say expansions and give the same benefits of a campaign then they can call it “prince Rurick happy story time” and ill buy it.

the campaign gave use new professions, skills, story and area that was accessible only if you had that campaign. it did split the player base up but how will it be different with expansions?

buy guild wars 2 …kill zhaitan, and done… unless you get the expansion where you can play as the tengu and enter the domain of winds…

oh we are all playing the tengu missions… oh you didnt buy the expansion .. well you cant play with us then.

people complain that the starting areas are empty now. inside the giant walls is the cool place to be. all the cool hipsters will be tengus or kodan or whatever.

the only way i see it not spliting the player base is if they open up the domain of winds as the tengu race city. and have the tengu personal story go kill zhaitan. the personal stories will merge again when you join an order. or maybe at claw island.

the only thing you would really get from the expansion is an extra character slot and the ability to choose the new race. non expansion people could travel to your city and run around the new areas but they couldnt play as that new race or new profession.

i think they would have to introduce elona before cantha. elona boarders the crystal desert. cantha is not even on the map. and as far as asia themed. its been 250years. cultures can change a lot. 250 years ago japan had samurai and now we have space ships and robots.

You can’t join other Orders, it ruins the incredibly little replay value in the game, and that’s the biggest thing keeping most people occupied between the good bits.

I’d be all for some missions, but part of the design was to completely remove anything that even looks like the old quest/mission system in every other MMO.

Thanks for the reply but what replay are you talking about? Alts ? I have many alts. And use them to play the other orders. After you finish the order missions, the personal stories merge. If you want replay then we should be able to join the other orders and do missions for them. Something like the pool in the hall of monuments or the gw1. You couldn’t make the missions DE. Because they would keep getting set off so you would have to make them dialog based, like many of the skill points. Talk to the NPC and he gives you a bottle of wine and then you drink it for the skill point. How would you do order missions?

I’m sure this had been suggested over and over. There is nothing to do with your order after you finish those missions. I thought I would post this after the guild missions patch went live. I was hoping for something like the bounties we got in GW1 ever since I finished my personal story. Like so many others I just used the orders of whispers asura gate to get down to Orr. Maybe I’m just too cheap. When I heard about bounty missions I thought…ok maybe this is it, well get to do stuff for the Orders….. but no. Instance missions would be too much. And spawn camping would be bad too. But being a messanger, or explorer would be fun and get people running around the different areas depending on the missions they selected. Rewards with some token and used only at the orders headquarters.

Something like. Go to your orders head quarters talk to x. They will give you a choice of a few different missions. You have to go to a certain map and tell agent Y that the code is blah blah…

You could have the NPC walking around and randomize the dialog options to make it harder for botters.

One last thing let me join the other orders too. I am the hero of shaemoor.

Ranger main here gw1 and gw2. I want a better ranger build too. I’m just guessing we are low on the list on loud complaints. The squeeky wheel. And do other profession cry and cry. I’m feeling as rangers we are the overlooking the battle field. We take our time and see how things develope. We play rangers because we are a bit patient. So we are patient with arena net. But I would like a word about some kind of time table for pets and weapons. As rangers we should be second only to warriors on the amount of useable weapons. A ranger can’t use a rifle? So many things would make me happy but the balance issues keep me rageing. An apply poison skill, a dodge button for pets. Better traits. I don’t think rangers should be OP and spike/burst damage like a warrior or ele, but we should be annoying and use our pet to harrass and control the area. And one last thing. Can we get a. Pet rabbit ,monty python style. Ever since pre searing in 2005 I’ve been waiting. “scaleing issues…. And blah blah”. Come on… It’s in the fractiles. Let’s make it happen.
