There are two events in and around Swordcross Outpost

Defend Swordcross command post from ghosts
Defend Plagan Swordrend as he repairs the turrets

I have seen these working and am aware of their “normal” repeat rate.

They are not working at all now, possibly due to the bugged <Protect the siege team as they approach the wall> but possibly just bugged in their own right.

Currently it’s showing that 1 team member is still alive but there’s no map indication of where that character is anywhere along the length of the event’s track.

This is an event which is bugged more often than it is not. Sigh

It’s still bugged and has been for a while now. It seems to work just after a server restart but bugs as described soon after.

It should be noted that it does not only block
Kill the Separatists before they destroy the Iron Barracuda
but also the event
Assist Legionnaire Burnwhite in repairing the Iron Barracuda.

Additionally it blocks access to Sesto Headsplitter, the karma vendor of
Assist Sesto Headsplitter with his work.

Tickets and comments from here apparently go to the developers. Apparently. It’s unclear if they actually get them or if they attach any importance or resources to fixing broken events etc, the evidence would say no. Sorry but that’s how it seems.

It’s fairly standard practice for MMO developers to lose interest in the basics but spend their time creating the next “awesome” additions. I am mindful of a bugged quest in WoW that never was fixed in 4 years and was eventually removed from the game.. Seems that ANet are following the tradition.

Major new areas and holiday items have been added but very basic things have been left unfixed. There are sometimes “promises” of fixes being “soon” but I have not seen any despite some of those promises being months old.

These allow you to interact with them but within 1-2 secs “throw you off”. This happens even during nearby events where they may be useful. They allow you to target and fire them if you are very quick. This is consistent.

It’s been bugged for a while like this. It will not work properly until a server restart and then, typically, it will bug again in a variable time. Just add it to the long list of semi-permanently bugged events.

I have always wondered what the cause to the bug might be, i heard a few times its caused when some player tries to aggro extra mobs to brogun (those random sons of svanir scattred about between the homestead and the totem location) to attack brogun, which then apparently i was told the svanirs reset and brogun’s AI so im told wants to attack them but cant, though i do not really beleive this is the case, and merely something to do with other nearby events currently in action aswell, though i may be wrong there aswell.

I wouldn’t look for reasons like that. There are many, many events and event chains broken. It seems that there is a basic design fault and when the events glitch, as they are almost bound to do, they stay glitched until a server restart.

The maw seems to be the only broken event right now, i havent seen or heard about any other events currently broken, or at least on my server there doesnt seem to be, everything other then maw seems to be working as intended.

If you looked around you certainly would find them on all servers. Sadly, there are very many. You either have not come across them or don’t know they exist. For example, I doubt there’s a server where the Defeat the shadow behemoth series is working in Queensdale. But the Frozen maw series, Collect armor scraps and bring them to Rani so he can build a snowman army to scare the grawl event and the Kill the grawl shamans animating the elementals threatening the lodge event are bugged more often than not. They will work again after a server reset and then it’s a matter of luck how long it takes for them to bug again.

I don’t want to see overly critical of Anet but it’s becoming a bit of a bad joke now.

It’s fairly typical of MMO developers to fail to correct “old” problems, maybe they’re too boring to bother with, maybe the juniors do not pass on the info to their seniors. But I really can’t understand it. If they fix them now then for the life of the game they don’t have to answer questions/avoid comments on why their game is broken. Can you imagine a reviewer going through the early levels with a copy of the wiki, a fairly empty zone and a few days after a reset. It would be ridiculous.

Don’t expect any great explanation, they’re only interested talking about the new stuff, imho.

The event
- Help the Wyld Hunt valiants clear undead from Treemarch Estuary

is bugged. NPC Lukas offers it and puts it on the upper right part of the screen but it’s not available to start from the usual NPC at Annwen (even when not contested} nor are the NPCs lying dead on any part of the track that they normally travel on.

It’s been like that for several hours at the least.

Look around this subforum, it’s full of bugs that have been stalled since the last server restarts. The list of such bugs is very long. There’s a basic design fault in that the events do not reset if they go wrong and the GMs can’t do it manually, or so I am told. Just pray for a restart.

Talaith in Caledon Forest bug

The NPC Talaith frequently bugs. She is responsible for the events:
- Protect Soundless villagers from the Nightmare Court
- Help Talaith liberate the Soundless prisoners
She usually is standing at the start point of the second event when it is not in progress although her “normal” point is, by observation, on the Weeping Isle. Her dialogue on interaction is that of the Weeping Isle location.

The event series typically will be blocked until the next server restart and then will rebug within a fairly short time.

This event is listed on the wiki but none of us have ever seen it despite spending a great deal of time in the area. On the other hand, others claim to have done so. Is it still in game, is it one of those frequently broken events, or are we just unlucky?

We have not seen either of these events, their names come from the wiki. However, from time to time, the debris in the Golemagical Institute seems to have formed into a constructed shape. So, it’s unclear if this is part of the series or some random event.

In Metrica province, the golem arena battle is very frequently bugged. One is left with a destroyed golem and an intact one with the NPCs’ chatter suggesting that the event is starting or is in progress.

The last observed case was still stalled over 24 hours later. Multiple visits to this area shows the bug occurring more often than not. This locks up the following events from occurring until a server restart.
- Defend the etheropods while Bluz harvests breeze rider eyes
– Defend the RCK-7550 golem as it stores energy
- Help Chott collect opals for a prototype golem weapon
- Defend AER-0000 from Inquest as it gathers energy from Storm Cloud Generators
- M.E.T.A. golem to the rescue! Help him defeat the WST-8100 golem

This problem anecdotally first occurred in the filtering of the UK town name Skittenhorpe, which will doubtlessly be filtered by the forum. It’s Sc un thorpe. About 30 years ago. Obviously filters are still as silly.

(14) The event “Defeat the champion rotting ancient oakheart” happens so rarely as to be nearly non-existent. I have seen it once in the last few months just after a server restart.

(15) The event series
– Drive back Underworld creatures by destroying portals in the Heartwoods/Taminn Foothills
- Drive back Underworld creatures by destroying portals in the swamp
- Defeat the shadow behemoth
This series is so rare as to be unobtainable. There are several posts and some Anet replies saying that it’s being worked on, seemingly the work on it is either very low priority or the task is so difficult as to be impossible. I am curious as to which of the two it is.

We are collecting similar information for other zones, anecdotally their lists will be much the same length. I can’t help thinking that the developers could take a few weeks off from devising new material and fix that which is broken. There’s not much value in creating events that the newer character never sees. It wasn’t so much of a problem in the early days with regular server restarts but it is much more of one since they can go for many days, getting worse hour by hour.

Queensdale bugs

A group of friends have investigated Queeensdale on two servers extensively and another one less so. We have done so several times and have discovered the following consistent failures of events and other matters. These failures seem to occur at some time after a server restart. Some regularly occur a short while, minutes or a few hours, after a restart, others take longer. Once they have failed, they remain so until the next server restart. All the events listed below are consistent in their failure. Other events/event chains can lock up and then they also remain so until the next restart.

From a personal communication, it is impossible for the GMs to restart or otherwise any events, a design failure, I think. Similarly, a reset timer in the event structure would seem to be a good idea.

The article is split due to forum restrictions.

Logging on with a new character in Queeensdale

(1) In the cinematographic – the NPCs who are supposed to be wearing a helm appear bald. This error has been present for a month or so and was not present at launch. Can’t quite see the problem in undoing the change that caused this. I understand this is a problem in other areas too.

(2) The event “Drive the rogue bull back home, and fix any mayhem on the way” is, as usual, broken. It breaks in two ways, one with the bull and the girl associated with the event being at opposite ends of the event track but with the girl offering dialogue suggesting she is standing next to the bull. The other method of failure is that they are both standing by the gravestone and periodically the girl disappears, never appearing at the other end of the track, nothing happens then in some variable time she reappears.

(3) The event “Defend Farmhand Nevin as he transports his cocooned friend to safety”. This happens so infrequently as to be almost impossible to ever see.

(4) The event "Kill the river drake broodmother " triggers very rarely outside a few hours after a server reset.

(5) The event "Prove you know a lot about Destiny’s Edge " triggers very rarely outside a few hours after a server reset. Often when it is working, the program thinks the NPCs are at the edge of the cave rather than where they appear to be, in the centre.

(6) The event "Bandits have constructed a roadblock to stop Shaemoor traffic " triggers very rarely outside a few hours after a server reset although it can be variable.

(7) The event “Drive the bandits away from the windmill”, we saw this a few times since launch but just does not seem to happen anymore.

(8) The event “Stop the bandit thief from stealing the pumphouse blueprints” – I have only seen this event work once since launch and then in a broken manner. Despite this, the starter NPC seems to offer it constantly in their dialogue.

(9) The event series:
- Defend Mepi from bandits
- Stop the bandits from poaching Mepi’s moas
- Rescue Mepi’s moa herd from the bandits.
This has stalled. I am aware of the normal frequency of these events from when they are working normally. The series habitually breaks not too long after the server restart although it can be variable.

(10) The event “Defend Barthol on his way to the Old Armory” has broken with Guard Barthol stuck at the end position of the event, showing the start event icon. Interact shows event end dialogue, audible dialogue is event start. Again, the problem is that this NPC will be here and the event blocked until server restart. In fairness, this event does not often fail but, in the past, he has also stuck at the opposite end of the garrison, half way up a ramp.

(11) The event series:
- Capture Heartwood Pass Camp from the Tamini
– Hold Heartwood Pass Camp
This has stalled with the Tamini holding the camp and the event to capture it not happening. Probably stuck until server restart but I am unsure about this. Certainly it has remained stuck for 20+ hours.

(12) The event series:
- Drive back the centaurs before they steal the monastery’s ale
- Return stolen kegs of ale to Abbot Mathias
- Protect the brew shipment
This has stalled – typically stops working within an hour or so of a server restart and remains inactive until server restart.

(13) Chloe’s challenge, a contributing part of the renown heart “Support the citizens of Beetletun” is broken, despite her offering the challenge, the human NPC is stuck as a moa. This will remain until the server restart and typically will stick again soon after.

Since we have not seen any updates… I have been patrolling the Swamp and the events and blocking possibilities on Yak’s server.

It seems that the blocking at the Monastery has been fixed. Those events cycle normally and none of them get hung any longer. There is ample time between those events that will allow the portal to spawn when the timing is right.

Well I took a snapshop of what might be part of this bug on my server (Crystal Desert)

Basically, the pack-bull (‘Protect the brew shipment’, I think it’s part of that, could be wrong) has lost it’s guy and it’s just standing there

Roland Dragonne might have been “fixed” on your server but it is not “fixed” on many. The brew events at the Monastery are broken more often than not. If you find them working then it’s luck because their breaking is entirely predictable.

One wonders what priority this problem has with the developers, if any at all. The events in that area have been broken for months now and, despite promises as to fixes, remain broken.

OTOH, most MMOs have broken “quests” and their developers often ignore them so I suppose ANet is following industry standard practice.

Death Reincarnated, that’s how it is when it’s broken. The pack-bull has been there so long that it’s putting down roots.

Three thoughts.
Firstly, there are many events that are broken and it would markedly increase those available if they were fixed and stayed fixed beyond a short time after server restarts.
Secondly, sometimes allowing an event to fail can lead to a series of events that can be even more interesting.
Thirdly, on servers that have a “low” population at the time, an event series can lead to the end of the series with a group event and, overnight for example, it’s impossible to get a group. So the series leading to that event are not seen. Maybe a timer on the group bosses might be an idea.

There isn’t a heart based on or near Vendrake’s Homestead Waypoint, I think that’s the one you mean. Never has been since beta. It was replaced with the “Help Albin Chronicler trade with the Jotun tribe”. Based just west of Twinspur Haven.

As for Rani being bugged, it’s another on the very long list of bugged events and will not correct itself until a server restart. ANet have been asked time and time again for a restart to get rid of this and many other bugged events but…

Add some language specific channels on the EU servers, so that there’s a Dutch, Swedish etc for those servers which are not language specific, allow people to watch more than one.
Fix the ridiculous profanity filter – right now it’s so silly that rep ut at ion sees p u t a in the middle and blanks it.
Fix the events so that they don’t stop working after a variable time leaving them locked up until the next restart.

ArenaNet, you have a serious problem. Event on event on event is bugged and are just not happening. If I wrote you a list it would be embarrassing but in Queensdale alone

Drive the bandits away from the windmill – not happening in days
Kill the drake broodmother – same
Stop the bandit thief from stealing the pumphouse blueprints – not happening at all now seemingly
Defend Farmhand Nevin as he transports his cocooned friend to safety – not happening
Defend Mepi from bandits – not happening
Stop the bandits from poaching Mepi’s moas – not happening
Rescue Mepi’s moa herd from the bandits – not happening
Drive the rogue bull back home, and fix any mayhem on the way – not happening

and these are just the 1-5 level events, there are more in this area

Your whole event system, particularly ones that are chained, grind to a halt at some variable time after a restart.

The series in Wayfarer Foothills bugs after 4-5 cycles consistently, to see these events, you have to be there within 10-15 minutes after a restart
– Destroy the dredge tower
– Stop dredge from repairing their tower
– Protect the norn while they search for the dredge leader
– Kill the dredge Commissar overseeing the mine
– Gather dredge ore from the mine for Sven

I could list similar lists for many zones.

And the game is riddled with these bugged events. A restart at least gives some of us a chance to see and do them.

With the atrocious failure rate, probably four restarts a day might make it possible for most people to see the content that you would seem to want them to.

But you leave it for over a week, the bugs accumulate, frustration grows at all levels of play. Just see the huge number of reports here.

What’s even more irritating is your refusal to acknowledge the problems and to tell us what you are doing about it.

There are large numbers of DEs like this. ArenaNet has been told about many of them and hasn’t acknowledged them or said if they are working on them or not. Just pray for a restart.
