Late breaking news: “Majority” and “Minority” are not terms used here. That’s WoW speak you’re talking. You know what I’m talking about? How the “Majority” of players completely destroyed an A+ game?
I just used that term here and it was properly applied as well.
I don’t know anything about WoW my friend, I’ve never played it. I’ve spent my time from EQ1 onward playing MMOs and I can tell you that only a minority of players agree with the poster I quoted.
Any other bits of my vernacular that you’d like to pointlessly attack? Maybe you could join a few other posters here and tell us how “hard” CoF is and how much “skill” it takes?
Chill the (furry feline) out! This game is not about loot, as much as you want it to be. The game has been advertised to be a change from traditional MMOs, and that’s exactly what we see. You’re just going to have to adjust from your single-minded view of “I can have my cake and eat it too.”
This is where you are completely wrong.
GW2 just turned out to be more of the same ole’ MMO.
Holy crud. Reading this thread has made me so ashamed of the current generation of game players. The entire point of playing video games has been lost on everyone, most likely thanks to World of Warcraft. I guarantee everyone complaining about these changes has at one time played and enjoyed a game like WoW, or similar to it (I.E. everquest/Rift) in the way there are gear treadmills.
The point of playing a video game, is to have FUN. Doing these dungeons should be fun, if you don’t find them fun, don’t do it. You guys are forcing yourselves to do something because you want a reward, but you don’t find it fun. It’s insanity, nearly. I personally find these dungeons to be a blast, which is why I run them. The fact that I will eventually get gear I like from them, is just a bonus. I want them to be difficult, that makes it more fun.
If you guys are seriously running these dungeons for any reason besides finding them fun, you’re doing yourself a great disservice.
Late breaking news: Your idea of fun is in the minority. The rest of us want a real challenge, dynamic content, something that doesn’t need to be repeated 70 times.
My biggest concern now is that tons of players already have the full CoF gear set because they farmed the hell out of it with speed runs.
What’s the point of doing the new and harder version for the awesome gear skins, when a bunch of unskilled players are already running around with it?
The CoF gear set is already known by the community as the “easy”/“starter” dungeon set. Please, make some skin change or way for the actually skilled players who do CoF now to differentiate themselves from the rest.
It doesn’t take skill to run any path of any of the dungones in this game. It only takes a level of tolerance to put up with poor design and buggy mechanics.
Step down from the pedestal please.
Depending on my gear my ele can crack 1,000+ healing power.
I have no issues farming events, always get gold, and the only time I lose out on badges is when I forget to loot them.
You’re probably doing it wrong and sitting in water thinking you’re helping with your Mist hot.
On the contrary, I think that “you’re probably doing it wrong” if you’re sitting at 1000+ healing and you’re wasting GCD’s in PvP on weak spam damage to get kill credits instead of using those valuable GCD’s on healing, preventing damage, crowd control, or buffing.
Now, if you’re going for a hybrid DPS/Support build then carry on. This thread is about dedicated support builds.
Everything in this game is a hybrid. The sooner people figure this out the sooner the QQ will stop or people will go back and play Pandacraft so they can sit in the back and play whack-a-mole with their UI. Saying you’re wasting GCD’s in WvW to attack because you have healing power..
You know what, just forget you. There’s no helping you.
There is dedicated support and dedicated tanking in this game. It is a lack of experience on your part that makes you oblivious to this.
If you think a fully support spec’d guardian blows a couple of cooldowns and then has nothing to do… then you just don’t understand the class or what builds are possible with it.
I have a dps necro and a support guardian. Both of them, as built, are effective at WvW and assist the team equally well. The necro accrues badgest faster than the guardian. Fact.
I can forgive the ignorance. But flailing around on the forums and accusing people of being WoW players is just ridiculous.
Learn more about the game then come back here and we can discuss this issue with support players further.
Mr. Peters,
I would love it you would post the metrics you guys have collected on which dungeons were run the most frequently prior to making these adjustements.
I think we all know which dungeons and which paths of those dungeons were run the most though don’t we? I think you guys (the devs) should sit down and have a longer discussion amongst yourselves on WHY players chose those dungeons. After you have a few possible answers ginned up think about why they avoid other dungeons.
You’re bound and determined to ignore player feedback so I hope that you guys can work it out internally and make the appropriate corrections.
I’m back for another quick comment because this thread is sokittenaggravating.
If your goal was to get us to spend more money buying gems… then ignore all of these posts. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.
RobertI made this path hard, because it was easy. It’s an explorable dungeon path, and they should be hard. Wearing the flame legion armor set should be a symbol of what you went through to obtain something. It should mean something. Right now it means you did 40 speedruns in 2 days.
I hope this helps a bit, but I understand you’re upset. For all it’s worth I’m sorry, and I hope we can move past this.
Robert,
Let me say thanks for responding to the player base. It takes a lot of guts to throw your reasoning out there.
I am a good example of what a huge chunk of your playerbase is like. I want to do WvW and kill people—it is the main draw of the game for me. I want to get to 80 as fast and easy as possible, using the cheesiest methods possible. I am not interested in your PVE content or your dungeons beyond the gear/money that they provide. When I hit 80, I ground dungeons to get exotic some gear and crafted to get other gear. I’m now in a full exotic set on my main (a necromancer) and I wreck faces with him in WvW.
I’ve just got my Guardian alt to level 80 and now I’ve got an issue. Everyone else who levels at a half-way quick pace already has full sets of exotic gear and your precious CoF amor is EVERYWHERE. It didn’t take these players hours of painstaking dungeon runs to acquire their gear but now new 80’s are going to have to endure that to get the same reward.
So, on my necro I’ve got a massive advantage over new players. My Guardian is at a massive disadvantage because an easy to acquire gear method (speed runs) is being systematically nerfed. To be honest with you Robert, you’re alienating a huge portion of your user base here. The PVP folks will tolerate easy PVE grinds as long as they are reasonable but they won’t tolerate these annoying (and unimaginative) dungeons.
Fix CoF (its broken now, you’ve made it entirely unbearable) and stop systematically nerfing dungeon runs; or get your crafting dev to add every stat combination to crafted gear so PVP players have a non carebear option for getting quick gear. Make all of the crafted gear look like Level 1 trash gear for all I care… just make sure the stats are there.
TLDR: I realized a rambled a bit there… in summary:
Give us a way of easily obtaining level 80 exotic gear in every possible stat combination. Make it look like trash if you want, we don’t care. Until that happens, reimplement speed runs of dungeons. Nothing is holy or sanctimonious about PVE… including your CoF gear set.
P.S. While you’re at it, get Mike to raise the drop rate on badges in WvW.
I’m getting tons of rare pieces, and also lots of blues and greens. Also get lots of drops on the island on the lake with 1/2 life mobs. Great way to make a little cash for wvw repairs, blueprints, etc.
Thanks for the heads up, I’ll make sure to sweep through there for easy Badges.
To the contrary, I think you’ll find that the toughness/vitality gear is rather worthless, unless your job is just to spam rezz people. I have a full glass cannon set, and a carrion set that gives me 24k HP (although my toughness is only 1400 in that spec). To be honest, against a glass cannon the extra HP doesn’t really do me much good. I suppose the extra toughness could make a massive difference, but I find it doubtful.
There’s significant value in having some players who are able to dive in and draw fire when two large groups engage in the open field. Those players need Vit/Tough gear to be survivable enough to do that effectively. That level of organization in WvW makes a difference when many groups you run into are random PUGs.
That’s a far cry from a rez bot.

Heh GW2 doesnt have healers
Heals have a very long cooldown you need to dps / buff / heal and find that sweet spot in your rotation / traits / weapons.
You cannot expect to get full credit for tossing in a healing rain once in a while
badges come from killing blows in downstate, you can achieve that in 2 ways, the F key or the last damage blow in their down state.
What you’re saying is wrong.
There are healers in this game and there are tanks in this game. To state otherwise just demonstrates a lack of experience playing the game.
A properly spec’d guardian can produce meaningful, sustained HPS out to players around him, can prevent 10’s of thousands of points of damage (probably more in the right ZvZ conditions) with any given shield ability, sustain AE 33% damage reduction, and can chop zergs apart by using the staff 5 ability. That is a full time support gig right there and none of it is rewarded.
Increasing the TTL (Time to Live) of friendly players so drastically is a game changer and that’s why guilds are rolling with synchronized guardians.
A guardian (just an example, I’m sure there are other classes which can do this) shouldn’t need to dive in and spam Staff 1 autoattack for kill credit. They were busy doing more meaningful things.
Great video… hilarious music.
What gear setup are you running?
I used Altruistic Healing + Empowering Might from 60 to 75 and face tanked the whole thing. Power/precision also (lol).
Solution to the catapult trick, introduce siege weapons friendly fire now causes damage.
I’ve seen this technique in action and can verify it’s effectiveness. It is however a border line cheese strat that will likely be fixed in the future.
Oh sweet Jesus, no.
Then an enemy player could jump to your server and drop the door with friendly fire!
