Unfortunately I haven’t set foot in a borderland since the weekend due to some serious PC issues (might end up having to buy a new CPU). Next week looks to be the same matchup, and I’m fine with it. Facing XT and other superior zergs has provided excellent training for all our guilds, from veterans like SPGR to Mayhem players who are yet to get there although I’d like to see less golem rushes and more serious play next week. I’d also appreciate more DZ guys in this thread.

Kind of getting bored of all the golem rushes, it’s not particularly hard to take a keep for someone with 10g to spare in a low pop border. The most fun I’ve ever had with golems was stealth capping the Far Shiverpeaks garri almost every day for weeks with 2 guild alphas :p

Nobody in this thread agrees with OP except me it seems I’m sure it’s not against the rules, but that doesn’t mean it’s a nice thing to do. The other day I was losing a keep in home border, and couldn’t call in reinforcements because the border was already full. Turns out a 20 man guild zerg was busy doing a JP instead of helping us, so we lost the keep.

If OP’s border was full at the time they were dueling, they should have found an empty border to do it. If there was no queue, however, let them duel all they want

Nozdormu your sarcasm level is over 9000. and im pretty sure if Underworld ever gets orginzed as a server they could have 3 Underworld Borderlands and a Centeral underworld borderlands with the capital city of Stonemist.. luckly for us that aint gonna happen

Oh, but we already got organized as a server. Aside from soem very silly in-fighting, most of the guys you see posting here belong to the same alliance, more than half the active commanders on the server are in that alliance, we communicate through teamspeak whenever we do anything, call in reinforcements when necessary and such. And we did have almost the entire map yesterday around 1am gmt.

This way it gives you a choice between buffing allies with, all things considered, minimal effort (all you have to do is turn around -.-) or damaging opponents.

XT, I don’t get you guys. You run an impressively disciplined zerg and I find it very hard to defeat you in the field with equal numbers, sometimes even when I’m standing on a wall. But… today we tried taking your Bay by way of trebs from Vale. We sieged up the place like a fortress, but still I know you could have just walked in and killed those trebs any time you wanted, even without a mesmer portal. You did walk in, time after time after time, and all you did was run around the camp waiting for our ballistae to shoot your down. So we did. Seriously, just walk from the camp entrance to the trebs and kill them, it’s that easy. I have done it with smaller groups many times.

Last week, you bust into our Bay with 3 omegas. Instead of rushing the door and bringing it down in 2-3 minutes, you again hang around the outer wall (smoke break?) while one of our commanders gets on a cannon on that same wall (!) and shoots an omega down, and the rest of us just rez-rush you to death. I have a lot of respect for you when I face you in the field, someone saying ‘XT in home border’ is always cause for concern, but sometimes you fail for really stupid reasons it seems.

To the Angry Commander, you’re absolutely right. Us and the Germans periodically meet up on teamspeak to talk about how best to team up on you in EB. We share our teamspeak channels, and even our zerg is a mix of green and blue, with mixed parties! As a matter of fact, I was just drinking tea with the German supreme commander Hans and we were laughing at how you are easy to defeat 2v1. I admit it all.

Oh, one last thing. Your border is now renamed to ‘Underworld Borderland II’.

Amazing fight at UW border today, defended it against a full XT onslaught (not on a brake afterall ^^) and a full german invasion. Both keeps are still standing, although we lost Dawn’s. Looking forward to our next encounter!

Gap closer ideas?

My WvW build is hammer/staff, Wall of Reflection, Sanctuary and Stand your ground! (with the Consecrated Ground trait). Once I get into a zerg, I completely mess them up. Hammer immobilize followed by Ring of Warding, a sanctuary and wall of ref. behind them and everything is peachy… if I can get close to them

The enemy zerg will often start running at the first sight of us, and my build doesn’t really allow any gap closers, like a leap or blink skill. The hammer immobilize is so kitten slow I often find enemies just outrunning it, so not really viable. I considered Judge’s Intervention, but that would force me to forgo one of my very important utilities. Another option would be replacing the staff with a greatsword or sword/shield for the short cooldown leap/blink. Any thoughts?

Well, potential points aren’t the only way to get total points. You earn points every time you cap anything, and I think killing enemies earns it as well. I actually like having to fight camp flippers or flipping myself, since it introduces a bit of diversity into the sometimes repetitive PvDoor or ZergVZerg environment. Removing the 15 minute mark and adding a separate time limit to different towers/keeps seems like an interesting idea. I myself never paid much attention to the time limit, I always just took stuff and defended as best I could :p

I agree that a different method of compensation should be introduced, but primarily I would remove BoH rewards from jumping puzzles entirely. I feel most people that farm them do so for their legendary effort, and since the whole idea of a lege weapon is to force you to experience every aspect of the game, it’s kinda redundant to give you a cheap work-around by allowing you to get so many more badges from JPs than actual WvW.

I actually wouldn’t change the dead mesmer tactic, since it takes some skill to pull it off, and it’s always fun to /sit next to a body until it respawns

Putting free waypoints on captured CP is kind of ridiculous xD the way I would change them is very simple: make them able to kill dolyaks on their own. That would make them strategically relevant, since they would be able to block supply lines. They are already positioned to cover multiple dolyak routes, this would make it important to control them.

Well, we held the entire french border for most of the night, and achieved a 10k point difference. More or less 6 people in the map the whole time, and 1 commander jumping from map to map taking care of everything. Fully upgraded bay, but it fell 10 minutes after it was attacked because there were 4 people defending it total. FS also woke up, just stomped everything into the ground. Why they would go for the red border instead of the blue, I wouldn’t know. I guess I should be happy to have the point difference, but can’t help but feel kitten because if FS decide to take an entire border, there is nothing we can do to stop them. Kudos.

I gotta say, the last 2 days were some of the most thrilling for WvW in probably weeks. FR and us have been within 1k points of each other the entire time, and it is still undecided as to who will prevail. Yet after spending 7 hours in fighting today, I can’t feel but disappointed to see that now, when UW needs its players the most, is the time we have the least online. Outmanned in EB, FS dominated our entire third for the bigger part of the afternoon, and unable to get enough people onto another border to make a difference, I feel powerless to change the outcome of the matchup. I will keep working, and try as hard as possible to beat the french. I think we can, I know we can.

Whatever happens, we are finally parting ways with FS. I like to think it’s been a learning experience for both servers, and wish you the best of luck in your future trials. I wish that, when we next face you on the battlefield, our servers will be on more equal ground and we will prove tougher to beat.

There is no dispute that FS plays WvW exceptionally well, but you cannot deny you have more people that actually play. I don’t understand why you gave DZ their win on a platter, would be interested to see you take it a bit more seriously.

All that I have to say is a big congratulations to FS for somehow acquiring the massive numbers. I hope you get out of the tier soon so that we can finally have good fights again with servers that have the same numbers as we do.

Just so you know.

Just so you know, that is untrue. Yesterday, around 7pm gmt (?), you had 1/3rd of UW border. Bay, Briar, Longview and 2-3 camps. This is fine, if we invade FS border we can capture a keep and a tower, but you held this for a whole day, since reset. FR border looked the same, and you had SM and 1 or 2 towerd from each server on EB. This means presence equal, or stronger than, the home server(s) on 3 different maps. There was considerable skill required to do something like that, but also superior manpower. You can’t deny you lack the latter.

edit: oh yea, and UW border was full at the time.

Again, FS just does a better job than UW. They captured our Bay and even fortified it… that’s just embarrassing. Well played, FS. Still, I can’t help but feel that we should be above FR tho, every time I encounter them we win. And not even that many night cappers, we were able to capture their entire part of EB a couple nights ago.

Phew! We just held FR Garrison and Bay for 2 hours, even had Hills for a short while (as Cryphar already pointed out). Dunno how much longer we will hold Bay, but had some really awesome fights in there! I cannot explain how much I enjoyed ninja-capping Hills right from under FS noses. See you next time! <3

by the way, GUM tried to stealth-cap that Garrison like 10 times during those 2 hours… sorry guys, but the attempts were beyond ridiculous xD

I gotta say I was really impressed with FS execution of the UW Bay capture. We managed to leave 2 mesmers inside, and port a 25 man zerg after they left. We were still building our 3rd ram when they appeared and portal bombed us to seven hells. Took them under a minute, impressive. And after that, they figured our mesmer hiding tactic right away, and even successfully blocked it for 2 hours-ish, until the mesmers left. Kudos.

Please, PLEASE look into the Lupicus battle not starting, and ruining the entire attempt for players. This is happening to many people, happened to me 2 out of 4 times of trying path 4. We cleared everything up to Lupicus, but we never got a cutscene that begins the boss fight and Lupicus never ‘activated’.
