It doesn’t work.

The ‘My Story’ tab is supposed to be strictly for your character’s development. It’s the collection of events that lead your character into who’ve they’ve become to date; character development. So having some random info of an interview with Canach is completely out of place.

The tab name would be changed to something relevant with the living story. The “My Story” will still exist, but living story content can be provided. All of the “My Story” content can be seen via a drop down by clicking on “My Story” in my example.

So it’s adding extra functionality to the tab without compromising character development. Future expansions and personal stories can still be thrown into the “My Story” mix.

Then there could be a third tab which cites all of the events you’ve currently been through, such as battling the Claw of Jormag or helping Farmer Diah in the Shaemoor Fields. It could list times etc.

I think that would be a cool tab to add to the Hero Panel for sure.

"My Story" Expanded - Living Story Concept

I was told to forward this on to the Suggestions forum, but the original post can be found in the Last Stand at Southsun forum – https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/southsun/storytelling-background-info-impressions/page/2#post2136584

I would like to see the posts from the GW2 website fed into the “My Story” tab. It can show a red " ! " when there is a new story entry like when you level and have a new trait point to use. You can even add little conclusion text for each event that transpires that may not appear on the website.

Each update that has story posts can have the content thrown into the “My Story” tab. We click on each event as a form of a drop down. I guess it works a lot like the wiki, but this is just another alternative of displaying information.

Attached an example I created real quick in Photoshop.

I would like to see the effects extend to back slot items and maybe just tweak the way the aura works on Twilight. I am sure some others are like this.

I am also looking forward to what they do with the Scavenger hunt.

PvE Culling Update?

Post from Colin Johanson on the other thread – https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/What-about-Open-World-Culling/first#post2063571

We’re working on getting over-all game performance with large #‘s of players/mobs on screen running better first. Some improvements were included in the last release, a number of additional performance improvements will be included in the release next week. Once we’re up to performance that can handle the transition to include mobs in the more advanced culling system, we’ll pull the switch, hopefully not that far off but I can’t give an ETA since we’re still doing extensive testing on performance.
As a bonus, the perf fixes next week should also help any location with lots of players and very few mobs, hello WvW.

I would have sworn I read some where that they were going to do away with culling in pve with the May 14th patch…

It was on the event page but there was a dev post stating that it was still in testing so they removed it.

I just hope that the back will animate like it does in the preview. Main reason why I got it. It would be cool to have the Legendary effects with it too. For example, when you wield Twilight, you get the dark aura around you, but the back piece does not have that same aura. Not sure if it would be possible to do, but it would look awesome

The victory phase has begun and will continue until the southsun cove patch. Be sure to interact with a victory bonfire in hoelbrak, the black citadel or lions arch to complete “A Rallying Flame”.

As mentioned in the guide it is mostly conversations, though if you’re curious, you should check out Cragstead and the hatchery. Also the Bonfire gives you a pretty good buff.

I would change the Retribution guide post located here – https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/flameandfrost/A-Guide-to-Flame-Frost-Retribution/first#post1930063 because it says the epilogue is until the 16th where the patch is the 14th.

It just switched to Wayfarer. NW of Halvaunt Waypoint. NW of corner of Wayfarer pretty much.

It looks like the dungeon moves every 2 days at 3 PM EST. The text box in the top right corner of your screen will say it is in “the next location” before the 3pm reset though in Diessa and Wayfarer. Seems accurate everywhere else.

All locations (Rata Sum, Lion’s Arch, Snowden, Gendarren, etc) still say Diessa while Diessa and Wayfarer both say Wayfarer for where the dungeon entrance is. Molten Alliance Strength bar stays the same. Dungeon still in Diessa.

I know it’s a minor thing, but just noticed it.

Flame and Frost Feedback

in Flame and Frost

Posted by: Outlaw.3421

Outlaw.3421

So now that the 4 chapters of Flame and Frost have hit Guild Wars 2 – I wanted to provide some feedback. (WARNING: Long Post)

Although the idea of a Living Story is great, it was not executed as well as in the past. I think taking what happened in Halloween, Lost Shores, and Wintersday would be prime examples of Living Story – just have to create it on a bigger scale. For the record, I enjoy the game and I enjoy the new content – just finding better ways to implement. People will always complain no matter what the changes are, but I hope this is more helpful.

Flame and Frost could easily be wrapped up in 1 month. Each chapter being introduced per week instead of per month. Not only does it add content, but it keeps the people checking in to see what has changed (again like Halloween, Lost Shores, and Wintersday). Example of this:

Week 1: Prelude

  • Players collect the mementos, fix signs, and light campfires for refugees fleeing
  • The refugee camps in Hoelbrak and Black Citadel are created – more people show up as the week progresses (same camp changes as in the January patch)
  • Steam vents appear in mountain – more appearing as week goes on.

Week 2: The Gathering Storm

  • Storms worsen and more refugees appear – including the Consortium push in Lion’s Arch / starting to build in Southsun
  • Collect the items the refugees have lost (2 items for now)
  • Enemies appear at homesteads via portals and dredge transports (more portals and enemies appearing as the week goes on)

Week 3: The Razing

  • New world events kick off for Rox and Braham
  • Braham Event leading to Cragstead Mission – From Hoelbrak, escort Braham to Cragstead. Molten Alliance attacks along the way. Repeatable Event
  • Rox Event leading to Hatchery Mission – From Black Citadel, escort Rox to Hatchery. Molten Alliance attacks along the way. Repeatable Event
  • Cragstead and Hatchery missions unlocked after escort quest (first time only, won’t be contested. Like Lost Shores when we cleared trees and areas through the island the first time).
  • 2 new lost items introduced
  • Dead Drop Locations and Sonic Periscopes
  • Southsun is developing

Week 4: Retribution

  • New Molten Weapons Facility that changes location as the timer goes down
  • Ending Cinematics for Rox and Braham
  • Final 2 lost items introduced
  • Epilogue after Dungeon towards the end of the month
  • More refugees in Southsun
  • People catch up before patch the next week

Week 5: Next Patch

  • Flame and Frost added to Living Story book for replay value / past rewards.

Now realistically, this probably wouldn’t have happened because dev time is limited and other things like WvW and sPvP needs to be addressed as well as bug fixing / new Black Lion items, etc. If it did though, Super Adventure Box may have been a month of it’s own with all the weapon skins, all the worlds, etc.

I know this content is not easy to make and it takes a long time to develop / test, but if you want to push Living Story as a selling point for this game, you need to keep the audience focused on the shiny object. Some people will crank through this in an hour or two. What Living Story elements are left for the rest of the month? Mad King and Wintersday had the same setup with new stuff unlocking as days went by – Living Story can be done the same way. In terms of bugs, they can happen too which you could probably extend my 4 week idea into a 6 week for any problems that may occur.

TLDR: Like past events, Flame and Frost probably could of been condensed into a month. Future events should be like this to keep players involved in a constantly living and evolving world. What went right – new content, dungeon is great with the new mechanics, new missions and cinematics a plus. What went wrong – time duration. Too long of a wait for not too much living story content monthly.

Constructive feedback to improve Living Story for this thread is welcome!

The dungeon itself will be available for a limited amount of time, as it is tied to the ongoing story. The possibility of revisiting the content is not out of the question, however. It just becomes a matter of determining where and when it makes sense to do so.

Since fractals are fragments of time that have been stabilized, would it be possible to add this Living Story instance as a new fractal? It allows players to replay the dungeon and you have the mechanic in place already where it changes every time you go in it. You can also apply this to the Ancient Karka from the Lost Shores event. Instances in Guild Wars 2 history that people can experience that they may have missed out on.

OR

Would you create like a Living Story book (Something like in Guild Wars 1) where you choose which previous Living Story experiences you missed

I posted this somewhere else, but I have copied it here -

Why can’t there be multiple ways to get a precursor other than a scavenger hunt? Just promote stuff that you have in game already:

  • Fractals – There is a higher possible chance to get precursor weapons from the daily chest in lvl 30+ fractals OR you use a fractal weapon skin, a gift of ascension, globs, and fractal relics to create a precursor for people who enjoy that mechanic. Provides incentive to push for higher level fractals.
  • Dungeons – 4 different gifts of [insert dungeons here] give you the precursor weapon from the mystic forge OR a weapon from a dungeon (in this case greatsword) and 3 different gifts of [insert dungeons here]. You get 1 lodestone along with the 60 tokens
  • Crafting – Throw in a crafting recipe (costs 10 gold?) that you can get that uses lodestones and T6 crafting materials (step up from the box [insert armor name here] but below gifts used in legendary)
  • Guild Missions – Higher amount of guild mission tokens + globs for a precursor. (Guild mission weekly chest already provides that chance for ascended accessories and precursor)
  • Laurels – Not sure on this system. Higher amount of laurels + globs, but a chance of it dropping as a reward for completing the daily or monthly. Guaranteed yellow for completing besides laurel token and 5 silver?
  • WvW – A crazy high amount of battle tokens since the chance of a drop exists already from the loot bags and a certain level in WXP. Promotes the World v World option and people who enjoy WvW
  • sPvP – Not sure on this since I am not familiar with the mechanic on how to get skins there
  • TP – Price may drop a little, but the people who enjoy flipping or playing the market can still purchase it with their gold.
  • General PvE (World Boss Chests) – Already a chance for a precursor from them, but guaranteed yellow for a chance at ectos does help. Step in the right direction in my opinion.

Now there is a chance that this may be part of the scavenger hunt already, but at least it adds variety in getting the precursor you want; still has a high price in the TP due to the amount of tokens or effort it takes to get.

Being that I only need Dusk right now to finish Twilight, I feel like it will take a long time to save up that much money to purchase it on the TP. I believe the precursor should be a challenge – just not in this way.

I ended up doing dungeon runs and fractals just to save money for the T6 material, ectos, and Onyx Cores (converted to Onyx Lodestones). Ectos I don’t really have a problem with compared to the other 2 as they are hard to come by. Precursor it’s either random (random drop or MF) or you spend all your time saving up money.

Why should I be penalized for not playing the TP?

Yeah – this just happened on YB with Tequatl. In game crash right after a massive lag spike. Enemies slow down, you can’t use abilities at all, and then you are tossed into an overflow in sparkfly.

As soon as a dragon lands – massive problems happen. It doesn’t happen as much in Frozen Maw or Shadow Behemoth

Dungeon Patch Discussion 1/28

Outlaw.3421

Just for the record – I don’t mind learning mechanics or hard fights.

So based on the following quotes:

I PUG dungeons quite frequently, and I often saw people not helping downed players, and not even trying to res people….

People really didn’t have to learn boss mechanics or communicate with each other to figure things out.

I am not saying that res-rushing was not a problem.

Some bosses – Lupicus being an example – have a habit of camping a person downed and causing the player to die anyways inevitably wiping other players trying to help (even if you aggro the enemy away – the red circles will get ya). That is why people were not helping downed players or they were in a spot that would get other players killed.

Yes, chances are you do not know the mechanic of the fight, but you still receive the death penalty without a chance of player redemption unless the group wipes and you all try again.

The new person trying to learn the dungeon suddenly gets booted from the group because they kept dying too fast for that fight, and the group finds someone with more experience. That is disheartening for the new players who want to learn the dungeons. (This can happen in really any MMO – just providing a scenario)

A question somewhat related to your class mastery comment:

What do you think about gear in dungeons?

Granted – everyone realizes the higher the tier, the better. So exotic / ascended is great.

However, there is a separation now where people are requesting Berserker geared people to take out Simin. If someone is a master of using Knight or more of a tanky build (less dps) – they now are missing out. I know some people are thinking to switch to Berserker gear just because they don’t see a point for the others. Next thing you know – everyone will be rolling a berserker geared warrior for everything.

Possibly developed that way because people don’t understand the mechanic of Simin? I am not sure but it shouldn’t be that way.

The Lupicus fight seems to now be an impossible fight (even though pros can solo it). I have a group that is going for dungeon master with Arah Path 4 left and Lupicus wiped us which never happens. We can dodge, we can res in the middle of the fight via pets or us.

The one problem we ran into was the constant abuse Lupicus gave to kill one person at a time. You res the person downed – the person that you brought up goes back down cause Lupicus camps him out – moves on to the next person after he dies again.

Then you throw in the level scaling that was tweaked – did it leave some issues with dungeons? Right now I feel like I am weaker in fights when I shouldn’t be.

Any updates to this by chance? I would be curious if any changes would be coming in the January patch.

I just tried / failed this tonight with a static group that have finished the other 3 paths easily. For some reason or another, we came really close to finishing her off the first time, but struggled every other attempt. She seemed to reset to full health at around the 60% – 70% mark when she was stealthed instead of a slow regen while we were gathering sparks.

We followed the suggestions, but we just did not have any success on it. Just seems too random of a success rate with the DPS check.

I remember the CoF Path 1 Effigy was nerfed (if I remember right) for the same reason of a high regen rate except the Effigy wasn’t stealthed and you didn’t have to kite any sparks. It was a DPS check for sure
