Error: authenticator code incorrect

Yes, I am running into the same issue as well. There is apparently a desync with my iOS Google Authenticator and the server by a good 20 seconds. I can only login using the final quarter of the timer.

I tried to remove the Authenticator and add it again, but I can not provide two codes for the approval. The first code expires by the time I can use the second code. This didn’t happen until one of the recent Path of Fire Client updates though.

I don’t want to necessarily send it a support ticket because this seems more like a bug that could be patched versus running into the issue again the future.

I understand that bugs happen in the live environment versus the testing environment and going through QA, but there have been some serious bugs introduced into the game since Season 3 launched when there was talk about quality content being produced with the 2 – 3 month episode timeframe.

I do not believe Guild Wars 2 had such a serious problem before even back when you were on a 2 week schedule on Season 1 or Season 2. I wish you all the best in fixing these issues and preventing them in the future

Maybe it is just me, but didn’t they say the quality of the content in Season 3 would increase? I know that bugs happen, but with the desync issue and now this, there seems to be a lot more serious bugs occurring in the live environment since the Season 3 launch

Feedback Thread: Summer Update (26 July 2016)

Overall, I like the patch, but I am fearful.

  • The QoL updates are great and were needed (Salvage Kits and Health Percentage)
  • New Maps (Fractal, PvP, PvE Map)
  • New Story (Living World Season 3)
Now to the fearful part. I am a veteran player since the launch of the game – I will always enjoy Guild Wars 2 and I am thankful for the new content. Being a veteran though, I am running out of things to do – I can make a new legendary, I can get some armor that I am missing, or finish up a collection, but really the new map exploration and the story are what my main interests are in the game. Personally, I am not a fan of WvW or PvP. I am sure I am not alone in that.

There was not much content really in this patch. I am not trying to knock the time it took for development of all of these maps, but when you look at this patch it compares to a Season 2 Living World release. I am not the only person who noticed. Here are a few examples from reddit:

I am fearful because if this is going to be the amount of content for each release in the 2 – 3 month time, I am afraid people are going to lose interest quick and the majority of your population will only pop up for the first week a release happens then fade away again. In terms of story, people will lose interest because you are drawing the story out too long and you are back into the problem with Season 1 where it just kept going and going. I believe 2 – 3 months is too long. If Season 3 is going to be as long as Season 2 (8 episodes), it is going to take 1.5 – close to 2 years to wrap up.

I am hopeful the content increases, that there will be more maps during the extra space between releases, and that there will be other things to occupy our time while we are waiting for the next episode.

The teams are all split up and we see a new Glider, a new Outfit in the Gem Store every week or 2. We haven’t seen many new armor pieces, we haven’t seen the Legendary Armor, we just received a new PvP map, we just received a new Fractal, and the Legendary Weapons were put on hold. I am just not sure why the main priority seems to be boosting the gem purchases versus boosting the quality of content in the game.

It would be reassuring to hear from one or several people from ArenaNet on what the next moves are in between these 2 – 3 month periods.

Tavern Guild Buffs: Limited to HoT Only?

This was probably already discussed and I apologize if this is a repost. We have currently unlocked the XP and Karma buffs for our guild members in the Guild Hall at the Tavern in Gilded Hollow.

I know Anet has stated that some buildings would be unavailable to people who have not purchased Heart of Thorns such as the Arena, but did they ever mention that Guild Buffs would not be usable to people who did not purchase Heart of Thorns?

As of right now, our guild members who did not purchase Heart of Thorns are not allowed to take a 24h Guild Boost from the Tavern.

I just wanted to see if this was working as intended.

SW/dry top/southsun- no map comp rewards

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Outlaw.3421

I had characters fully explore DryTop, Silverwastes, and Southsun prior to HoT and did not receive any rewards there for map completion. However, I had my Revenant explore Southsun and received a “Map Completion Chest” with a letter in the mail just like all the other core Tyria zones.

So not only are we missing the map completion for the new HoT zones, but also Dry Top, Silverwastes, and Southsun. I did not receive any on my other characters that completed those zones prior to Heart of Thorns. Even characters I have that were just missing 1 POI were not getting map completion rewards after I found what I was missing.

It’s a major problem because in order to get your Ascended Elite Spec weapon, you need to map complete a Heart of Thorns map.

I have discovered the pattern for mine

I have 6 characters with 100% WORLD completion, and 2 without.

The 6 with world completion did not receive rewards, the 2 without received rewards both for SW/DT/SSC maps already completed and once completed which i did to test

Just to comment on this, I did complete VB this morning (no completion though), but I can somewhat confirm this statement.

I had characters fully explore DryTop, Silverwastes, and Southsun prior to HoT and did not receive any rewards there for map completion. However, I had my Revenant explore Southsun and received a “Map Completion Chest” with a letter in the mail just like all the other core Tyria zones.

I can’t help but think that if you guys had continued doing the bi-weekly living story stuff, you’d have had sufficient experience in these sorts of events to avoid exactly these problems.

And I think that is something else to note too right? Expectation management of Expansion vs Living World.

A lot of people wanted an expansion. I don’t blame them. At first, a lot of people did not like the 2 week updates. I think Season 2 was a step up from that with having it unlockable and replayable and even the end of Season 1 was good.

This year has been kind of empty for lack of a better term. We had the first year and a half / 2 years getting 2 week updates all the time. In my mind, I have become a bit spoiled by it. There wasn’t a full on press for an expansion then.

Now, we have the expansion coming, and all we really did get was an improved Lion’s Arch? (Sorry if I am forgetting something)

I am not saying I am not grateful for the content that was provided and the extra features included, but things like Mordrem Invasion / Chinese New Year were just small events to keep us occupied.

It didn’t have that Living World quality. It was almost if the Living World needed to continue until the release of the expansion, but that would require a huge development effort that is very unreasonable.

Outlaw.3421

I think we need to start looking at this first from the foundation with a few questions. I am in no means an expert, but this is what I am thinking.

Foundation Questions

Who is the event intended for?

  • Newcomers vs Veterans
    • Do you want this to be for level 80’s?
      • Can we drop the market on a certain crafting material?
      • Can we bring back some unique skins that haven’t appeared in a while?
    • Do you want this to appeal to everyone?
    • Can FTP accounts participate?
      • Will they be able to afford the reward pricing and the travel costs?
      • Can they level from it in preparation of a new expansion or another event?

What does the event require the user to do?

  • Will they have to travel through the whole map? (Do they need to use waypoints?)
    • If huge travel time – consider adding gold to compensate WP cost
    • If low travel time (small area) – gold not as important as WP cost is no longer thought of
  • Can these events be completed via solo, small group, or big zerg? Explain one versus the other
    • Can a solo person or small group do the same as a big zerg?
    • Does it require you to be in a big zerg?
    • How much should the event scale if a big zerg appears?
  • Will they clearly understand where to go and what to do?

What will be the ROI for the user compared to what already exists in the game?

  • What are the Rewards?
    • Can they earn XP to level their characters?
    • Can they earn gold / karma to buy new items or skins from current in game vendors / the TP?
  • How will users get the rewards?
    • Completion by map as a whole
    • Individual Event Completion
    • Mix of Both Individual and Map-Wide
  • Does this provide an incentive compared to other current events in game
    • Halloween Maze farms are quick and enjoyable
    • Silverwastes drops a lot of material / items for users to break down or sell

What is the time frame?

  • How long does the event last? (A week, few days, a month, permanent)
  • Reasonable based on the event? (drop rate)
  • Reasonable based on reward structure? (vendor pricing)

Problems: Promotion and FTP

I am not insulting FTP. It was a good move. The problem was that I believe this event was invented and developed before FTP accounts were considered based on the reward structure.

Another issue could of been the promotion of the event. First intended for Guild Recruitment and then appealing to the FTP / new players. This type of an event is not something to start a new account on.

I think a Festival like the Queen’s Gauntlet would of been a better move.

The event itself has:

  • No XP / Money / Karma Gain
  • Quick events that you hope you can tag in a mindless zerg but would take too long individually
  • A reward buff that pushes the “tag event” mentality to new players to get more blooms
  • Small reward output based on time sync needed for everything in a limited timframe

If I was a new character, I would go back to the normal story or events. If you are a new non-FTP account, you get all of these Tomes and level up scrolls for a daily login. Does the XP gain in a limited event really hurt the game? Does the small amount of gold per event to help with the WP costs hurt the game?

Yes, you could walk, but you then are not getting to all of the events fast enough.

Season 1: Scarlet Invasion Comparison

From a design standpoint, I would say a good majority of people liked the Scarlet Invasions. There was a few different types of events going on in the map that scaled to how many people went there. At the start, yes, there was a champ train problem, but that was fixed. You had to spread out in the map to divide and conquer to win which results in the best rewards. This was reflected in the Battle for Lion’s Arch and the Scarlet / Assault Knight battle.

  • There were elements in place that required coordination (some of it tougher than others)
  • There were elements in place that contained unique experiences compared to the rest of the game
  • There were rewards in place that allowed players to feel like it was worth the effort to participate in this event (also achievements, but that is a minor detail)
  • There were elements in place that compensated you in traveling across the map to complete the event

Improvements to Mordrem Invasion

Quick Wins

  • Add XP / Karma / Mat Drops (No Champ Train)
  • Lower Vendor Pricing on Both Gold and Blooms

Crazy Concept

Idea 1:
This would take A LOT more time to implement, but when I see Mordrem Invasion, I think Silverwastes. I can see somehow taking one of the Forts or Outposts in Diessa / Brisban / Kessex and holding that from waves of enemies. Brisban I can imagine a camp down in The Gallowfields with Mordrem attacking from both directions or a Husk throwing rocks from up above.

Idea 2:
Again, A LOT more time to implement. Using Kessex as an example. There is a giant train of enemies coming from Lychcroft Mere that marches through the map to Delanian Foothills where you have a main base of operations. Think of it as the Mordrem are escorting a Dolyak and that Dolyak has a bomb.

In between those 2 points are small checkpoints you can create to slow down / kill the horde of enemies. This can be an endless supply of respawns or a large amount of enemies at a time that would eventually go down to 0. It’s an event against overwhelming odds type of scenario where you hold off until the time is up or you clear them all out.

They ignore players or some of them do to rush to the next objective. To prevent scaling, they destroy the checkpoints faster / hit harder when there are way too many players. Think of it like an “Outmanned buff” in WvW but the Mordrem get the buff.

Interaction with the World

One thing that would also take a long development cycle would be the interaction of characters in these maps already with new events that appear later.

For instance, in the Tower of Nightmares, I would of liked to see the Centaurs attacking the Toxic Alliance in some way using their siege weaponry. Another idea: there would be several events where we aided the Centaurs or they came to rescue us in a “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” scenario. To go along with that – the Quaggan could of attacked the Toxic Krait in a new events underwater by the Tower. Maybe even some of the Bandits by the shore could have an event where they request assistance.

Basically, taking the characters that are in these maps already and making them feel a bit more alive like they are dealing with the same problems the character is dealing with. The events that normally transpire can either still happen or they halt entirely because this threat is lingering.

Take that idea and apply it to the Mordrem Invasion. (Easier said than done – I know).

Yes, I believe I was, but I can’t remember for sure. I know some items in the Mists won’t even let you open them until you leave. I can’t remember if the Glove Box was setup that way. I did get another glove box though and chose the light gloves outside the Heart of the Mists, but the result was the same. No collectible unlock. I did not think that the Heart of the Mists would affect the item in that way.

The only thing I can think of is buying it on an alt character just for testing purposes, but other than that – nothing I can do until it is patched.

Update 1/23: I updated the topic to indicate a bug with collections in general (Dungeons, Luminescent Gloves, etc.) and the Heart of the Mists (sPvP). Opening a chest from a Reward Track that grants you a skin will unlock it for the wardrobe, but not for the collection.

Temporary Fix: Pick skins in PvE environment (outside of Heart of the Mists)

Original: This was submitted to support and forwarded to proper channels for a fix. This post is just to create awareness for people about a “rare?” bug regarding the Luminescent Glove Collection.

Background:

  • I completed the Living Story chapter to get a Glove Box (Heavy Gloves)
  • Bought a 2nd box at Silverwastes using crests (Medium Gloves)

I just finished the sPvP Silverwastes Reward Track and got the Glove Box from there. I opened the box (Light Gloves) in my wardrobe, but I ran into a problem. There is currently a bug where even though I have the gloves and they are unlocked in my wardrobe, it did not count for the collection. I did try a few things such as selecting the stats and equipping them, but nothing worked.

According to support, as long as it is in your wardrobe, it should unlock the collection. Again, this information was forwarded from support to get patched at a later date.

If anyone else had this issue, did you fix it and what did you do to fix it?

So experimental extractor is just RNG.

With the new extractor they gave a guaranteed drop for tendons. If I were to guess, the next patch would add a guaranteed extractor for fangs. So…if you really don’t want to RNG it, just wait for the next patch when they add the next guaranteed extractor.

I think it is pointless to do it this way and they should just add the guaranteed fang extractor now.

Update: On top of that, if you are done with the collection, you only receive what? 15 or 25 bandit crests for tendons you don’t want? – which you can easily get for doing several small events out in the world vs just the boss.

Continuity issues with personal story Maps

in Living World

Posted by: Outlaw.3421

Outlaw.3421

Really they are going to have to look into doing this if they want to put Season 1 back into the Story Journal as well.

If they want to create this evolving living world, they would need a team or several to go through each of the maps every Living Story Season lets say to update the maps, the NPC’s, and conversations. Pretty much I guess what World of Warcraft did with their Cataclysm expansion, but on a more consistent basis and that requires a lot of time.

I do agree though that the maps should not be reflected with current events just because there are always going to be new people who play the game and yes, some maps will be restored most likely to their original ways, but until that time, they will not be sure what happened.

Season 2 takes place 2 years after the personal story ends and anything related to Season 2 should not be located in there

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Outlaw.3421

Outlaw.3421

This also concerns me. I only have a certain amount of time during the week to play the game and if you ever were to release a new world boss during a living story update, I would have to play it at a certain time.

In which case, Teq, Karka, and Wurm are all later at night so I would only be able to play during the weekend or when a guild were to kick it off (if they decide to do that). Doesn’t this timegate new content when it’s released so not everyone can enjoy it? With the current system, it happens often enough where people can enjoy it no matter their time.

I like the megaserver idea, I like repopulating old zones, and I like having guilds being able to queue events, but I believe you are cutting out part of your player base. The part that can’t do primetime and the part that does not have a guild or a guild that has no interest in world bosses (it can happen).

The double waypoint cost does also seem kind of steep. The champ trains and events are getting toned down on gold to compensate with the repair costs, but I use waypoints more than I repair.

Will there be a livestream Q&A to address a lot of these concerns? The one tomorrow seems to just be focusing on WvW and the Future

Will the feature patch be good?

Posted by: Outlaw.3421

Outlaw.3421

With the speculation that the Guild Wars 2 release in China is going to be in the summer, and now that the note says we will not have a feature patch in June, I am hoping it is sooner rather than later.

However, we have the WvW Tournament starting at the end of March which will be around until the end of May now. I do not believe they would launch such a big change during the WvW tournament because of the changes being made to runes / sigils, crit damage, etc. I don’t think they would release the China version around this time either.

My main fear is we wouldn’t get a patch until July around the time the Bazaar, Jubilee, and Dragon Bash events come back as they have released balance changes during holidays. This would also probably be a good release window for China which they have said would be in sync with the other regions (I think?). This wouldn’t qualify as a short break though because it would be longer than the 6 week winter break.

TLDR: Hard to say when this is going to happen with WvW going on and any other events with it

As for rewards, I would hope the new system is a bug as each knight should reward everyone helping in event much like the citizens if they want to promote this new gameplay. If rewards are not changed, people will not bother playing it which I am sure some are already seeing lower populations on their instances because of it.

This is a living story with a 2 week timeframe. The main point of this story is to be facing Scarlet in a major fight. The Assault Knights should not be the focus of this content. Just smaller mobs to get power cores from to get to the Scarlet fight, but that is my opinion. I have faith that ArenaNet will fix it, but I wanted to leave some feedback.

Suggestion: Scarlet Boss Fractal? **Spoilers**

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Outlaw.3421

I personally enjoy the finale battle with Scarlet. From the mechanics in the fight, the song in the background, and the massive amount of people in there fighting it. Unfortunately, (and to my knowledge), this fight is temporary.

I would like to see this converted somehow into a Fractal boss. For the start, have an Assault Knight Champion blocking a portal entrance you have to go into. When you get on the ship, the fight begins.

Phase 1: Lower the Health, keep the mechanics (100% – 50%)

  • You still attack her normally in this phase, getting all 3 buffs to do damage to her

Phase 2: Instead of timing the 3 bosses, have the mini holograms attack then. Possibly 3 of each instead of 6 using the colors to attack each type.

  • This makes the fight a bit more interesting I think for only 5 people

Phase 3: Possibly lower the adds, keep the mechanics

  • Same as it is currently but possibly lower the adds or increase the time to kill all of them. Or possibly leave it the same

Agony: Bright red circles and lines give the agony damage on higher fractals

Any additions or thoughts are welcome!

The first set of tools were originally Soulbound, but when the next few became Account Bound they added a way to convert your old tools back in November.

When the tool is in your inventory, you go to the Black Lion Weapon Specialist: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Black_Lion_Weapons_Specialist. They will give you a new Account Bound Consortium Harvesting Sickle

Suggestion: Blade Shard Collector?

Not sure if this has been discussed already, but would it be possible to create a Blade Shard Collector that has the same items as the Lionguard Belongings Collector?

You can have it be a weaponsmith or lionguard that is forging the blade shards to create weapons for the assault on Scarlet.

I think it would be a good alternative for people who don’t want the back items or people who already crafted them instead of just throwing the items away.

Because members of Destiny’s Edge are so entwined with your Personal Story as well as the over-arching story with Zhaitan, and because the Living World plot lines are taking place at the same time all those other story threads, we couldn’t have the members of Destiny’s Edge splitting themselves between these other areas and what was going on with Living World. This is partly why we introduced these new characters.

I hope you folks are seriously not considering the LS is happening at the same time as the Personal Story, and this is just a slip up on the post. I also would hope that everyone on the team can get this stuff straight so that this confusion doesn’t happen.

What Regina means is that for players who are currently going through their Personal Story, the LW timeline will seem to be happening at the same time. Technically, they happen at different times in Tyrian history. Personal Story predates the current Living World season by approximately one year.

So when you’re playing your Personal Story and are in an instance with Rytlock, etc. the assumption is that this is happening “in the past” whereas LW events are happening now.

Our hope is to provide better distinction of these timelines within the game, but that would come with the release of a planned feature that we’re not ready to discuss in depth just yet.

Looks like CanadianZombie and I had the same idea. This sounds like the suggestion I posted back when the Southsun event was going on (almost a year now, wow). It’s archived now, but the post is here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/archive/suggestions/My-Story-Expanded-Living-Story-Concept/first#post2137462

Basically, it was a way to show the stories from the website, but also give people a way to recap the events of the Living Story via the “My Story” tab. There was several images in the thread but I reattached one as an example. I am excited to see how it turns out!

I don’t even think Captain Ashym from the Urban Battlegrounds Fractal drops red circles when he does his meteor shower attack.

I posted this a while back but I will copy it in here:

This issue appears to be random as some people complete the mission after their first try while others take multiple attempts.

Problem 1: Enemies in 1st Shrine Room
After the first cutscene and first fight, we go into the first Abaddon Shrine room. This room from what I gather has you kill 4 (3 and the rotmouth) enemies before the “Activate the switch” option appears on the shrine. However, after killing all 4, the text box does not pop up. The enemies in this room have a tendency of hiding in the walls, floor, and pillars of this room, but again, the issue appears to be random.

Problem 2: Dialogue
This is where everyone is getting stuck even after killing the enemies. An audio dialogue pops up for Sayeh after you take out the Orrian Crab group (first group of enemies you face in the mission outside of the Shrine). After you defeat those enemies, Sayeh should say the following:

  • The Risen have reactivated the temple defenses. It may slow us down.
  • However, they did find the altar. We can do the same

She needs to say those 2 statements above before she says:

  • A most interesting shrine. What is its purpose?

After scrolling through the main chat log, it only successfully worked when she said that which means something is stopping her progress in that dialogue for some reason or another

Just reporting since after the game patched on 1/24, I am receiving a lot of lag, skill lag, and disconnects from the game when multiple people are present. The issue does not seem to be as bad when solo, but I could be wrong.

Seems to be worse in Bloodtide than in Lornar’s

It could also be pushed back like the Wintersday one was. Just going have to wait for a dev response to confirm it or it will show up later tonight. Eventually it will be up because it will be consistent with all of the other releases.
