People underestimate gw2lfg. I regularly get full (and competent) Arah groups in around 10-20 minutes just by using the website and announcing in Cursed Shore. For most other dungeons I’ll post on gw2lfg, go grab a drink, and by the time I get back I already have 4 self-invites.

In all honesty those who complain about getting groups being difficult simply are not trying hard enough.

And to all those people whining about a built-in LFG, ANet has already stated that they’re working on it so relax.

Mesmer Skill 2 when downed: BIG Problem now

in Mesmer

Posted by: Prism.5649

Prism.5649

As a Mesmer myself who has been screwed over by Downed #2 many times, I vehemently support the skill being changed.

That being said, the skill is not bugged and this topic should not have been created in this forum. The skill does exactly what it says it does; teleports you in a random direction. Just because we have bad luck with the skill does not mean it is bugged, it means the skill may need a rework. Thus this topic should have been started either in the Mesmer forum or in the Suggestions forum.

Also Aelaren was absolutely right: If you are near an environmental danger (lava, falling rocks, etc) and you are dumb enough to use #2 then it is 100% your fault when you port into the dangerous area.

Just because we have tools does not mean we should be using them with impunity. A skilled player knows when to use and when not use the tools available to them. If there is a chance that using #2 will teleport you into lava or some other danger, then simply don’t use it.

If you are already in a dangerous area and cannot be revived by teammates as FireDragonDol said, then being teleported further into the dangerous area really does not change your situation very much so #2 doesn’t hurt you. Also keep in mind that not every profession has the ability to change locations when downed, so it’s not like the RNG of this skill limits us in comparison.

I don’t know why people get so whiney about jumping puzzles…There are at least 5 different JPs that involve like 6 jumps total (and those jumps are ridiculously easy), and everyday you can redo the same JPs and they will count towards the monthly…I guess people will just always find something to complain about.

This has been happening to me as well, Windows 7 Professional.

The temporary solution of course is to just:
1. Right click the taskbar (or press CTRL + ALT + DEL)
2. Click “Start Task Manager”
3. Navigate to the “Processes” tab at the top of the window
4. Find and right click the “Gw2.exe” process
5. Click “End Process” and when prompted click “End Process” again
6. Start up GW2

By choosing “End Process” in the “Processes” tab instead of “End Task” in the “Applications” tab you will receive faster results and not have to wait upwards of 5 minutes. Note that ending processes for some applications can cause instabilities, but for the most part it’s safe.

I would like #3 to be fixed, seeing as its a bug, and then I would also like #2.

I think it’s silly how some classes like Elementalist have both a 25% passive run speed as well as the ability to have permanent swiftness while classes like the Mesmer are stuck with a minimum of a 2s downtime on swiftness, and then only when specifically geared and traited just for swiftness.

Do I need to spec in to shredding?

in Mesmer

Prism.5649

The below assumes PvE. It should also be applicable to PvP but as I do not do much of that I cannot say for certain.

You do not need to spec for Shattering. A Phantasm build is perfectly viable with Mesmer and can be just as competent kittenter builds.

The most common Phantasm builds are Berserker (GS and Sword/Focus or Sword/Pistol) gear with 20/20/0/20/10 or 20/20/0/25/5. The only required Utility skill is Signet of Illusions to keep your Phantasms alive longer.

Basically just throw out your Phantasms and let them wreak havoc. Try to pay attention to their health if you can to shatter them when they are low. If this proves too difficult (lack of Illusion health bars sucks for Phantasm builds) then just shatter everything when your Phantasm skills are back up.

There was a more detailed Phantasm guide around here somewhere, but I’m not sure where (might have been on gw2guru).

this is sooo stupid…
we have a lfg on teh website(which btw is on the edge of legal as a third party service in the eula), we have tried to find a group ingame in the map chats, but after 4 shouts its 10+min suppression and cant write anything in chat.

whoever made this design should be instantly fired.

i have been gaming for over 20years now and i have never ever encountered a system even remotely close to this bad.
gw2 is 100% relying on people grouping up and doing stuff and there is NO WAY! in game to do this effectively, even trying to ask for group in chat is restricted crazily thereby preventing group play..

it is baffeling that some one could be so “special” as to not include an lfg system in game, when the game is 100% relying on such a system to work perfectly(only game i have encountered that is as relying on it is D&D online which had an awesome lfg system).. and we dont even have one that works at all, we dont even have the start of it. and the devs refuse to make one…

how can these devs still be hired when they are this bad and this far from reality?!

edit:
even worse the devs is just Dead quite, not a word in AGES!!! on this extreme issue, they are just hiding there heads hoping this will just dissapier, apparently they are so far from reality that they dont realise that the only way this issue dissapier is when there is no more people left in the game to even make 1 group….

WHY HAVENT THERE BEEN A DEV ANSWERING THIS CONCERNS DIRECTLY YET!!!

I call 100% BS on you. However having said that I’m pretty sure you are going to just skim through my post in your hurry to hit the reply button and start flaming me, so please do everyone a favor and actually read the below (and also please read my previous post) before you waste your own time with half-thought rage arguments. =)

First of all the website is nowhere near “the edge of being legal”. ANet has specifically encouraged its use (which is what this whole thread started as).

Secondly the suppression is only if you use exactly the same message over and over. Change it slightly and you’ll be all set. Maybe next time you’ll try new things before you start crying.

Third there is no way you have been playing MMOs for those 20 years if you honestly believe this system to be the worst. Clearly you never played early EQ, EQ2, or WoW because the party finding methods in those games were pretty much limited to calling up your RL friends and telling them to log in.

The only thing about GW2 that requires parties is dungeons, and the people like you who cannot find groups are the vast minority. You may think it is impossible to find groups but the simple fact is you are wrong. Finding groups even without a guild is incredibly easy if you actually put the work in. As I’ve said multiple times simply broadcasting LFG is not putting the work in. You need to be proactive about finding a group. Read my earlier post about tips on finding a group.

Finally, there really is no way you have been gaming for 20 years if you think devs respond to crying babies like you. The lack of an LFG in game is not a serious issue and the devs know it, so there is no reason for them to make the minority of players like you feel better. ArenaNet has better things to do than be your mommy and give you petty reassurances on problems that are mostly your fault.

Whatever your arguments are, the bare bottom line is that if you cannot find a group then it is 100% on you. You have all the tools needed to find competent dungeon groups and recruiting players is actually very easy.

I would like to know when they are going to implement a Dungeon Finder tool. I have spent about 10 hours trying to find a group for a Dungeon, and I have yet to even start a single Dungeon. It is completely ridiculous that anyone thinks alt-tabbing to a third party website is an acceptable method of finding groups.

Maybe it works fine for people doing the most popular instances, but if you have joined the game late and are locked out from doing Explore modes until you finish the Story mode first, then it is literally impossible to find a group.

Maybe when you learn to play the game you’ll have more luck. For example:

There is no need to ever do story mode on any character. As long as one person in your group has done story mode before then the entire party can enter explorable mode.

-

Also, think about the Dungeon Finder situation for a moment. Right now there is a perfectly usable and efficient LFG tool (aww you have to alt tab to use it, so what? Pressing those two keys is super difficult…That’s what the “Windowed Fullscreen” resolution option is for), so ANet has two options available to them:

1. Put their own LFG tool on the backburner while they work out some bugs/mechanics that need immediate attention as well as work on pushing new content sooner.
2. Work on an LFG tool to replace the one that already works and as a result fix bugs and push new content at a slower pace.

It seems pretty common sense that for the moment ANet should focus on other more important issues before they tackle an LFG tool. The delay also probably means that ANet will be adding pretty features to their own LFG tool when it is released.

-

Instead of ranting and raving about how tough your life is, why don’t you take action to make it better yourself? Dungeons are incredibly easy to get groups for, and if you really and truly cannot find a group after 10 hours then the problem is 100% your own. Just today I have run 9 or 10 dungeons (mix of CoF, HotW, and Arah), and many of those runs were completely with PuGs who only stayed for 1 or 2 paths.

If you just shout “LFG _XYZ dungeon"_ every minute or two in LA then of course it is going to take you a while to get a group. Instead try the following:

1. Find yourself a guild that does dungeons regularly. We can be in multiple guilds in this game so even if you are already in a guild of friends who don’t do dungeons you can still join another guild and only rep them when you are LFG.

2. Use GW2LFG. It is a magnificent and safe site. Post your own LFG and also check it regularly for anyone else who is LFG. If you have a smartphone then don’t hesitate to get the GW2LFG app (this would also fix your precious alt-tab problem).

3. Shout your recruitment in both LA and the map of your desired dungeon, and of course pay attention to other people who are looking for groups.

4. Actively look for other players outside of map chat such as players you have run with previously, friends, players in the dungeon zone who may not be looking at map chat, etc.

5. As much as your schedule allows, try to get dungeon groups during peak server hours. Trying to get a dungeon going during off-hours will be enormously more difficult than during peak.

6. Guest onto other high pop servers and broadcast your LFG in their LA and map chats.

Above all, be proactive! Don’t just sit there hoping other players will do the LFG work for you.

If you really and truly follow the above guidelines you will have a group within an hour no problem (unless you’re going for Arah; many players avoid that dungeon so getting a group can be a bit more difficult regardless of the quality of LFG tool). Don’t forget you can quest/farm/WvW/sPvP/etc while looking for groups.

Contested Dungeons - What's the point?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Prism.5649

Prism.5649

Agree with OP contention is just stupid , to make people do dynamic events? I don’t Wanado them I’m there to do a dungeon not an event if I wanted to do an event I would do an event. Duh. It makes minority servers suffer without the likes of gw2lfg which isn’t anet design.

I am all for removing this. You’ve done an event once you’ve done it a thousand times, now just let me do the dungeon.

Contested dungeons should most definitely be on a much longer cooldown, something more akin to world invaders perhaps.

However, your argument that “minority servers suffer without the likes of gw2lfg which isn’t anet design” is silly. Minority servers have just as much access to gw2lfg as any other server, so by not using it all you are doing is shooting your own foot.

If your argument is that you don’t want to use it because ANet did not design it then you are being equally silly. Just because a game company did not design a third party application does not mean they do not rely on it.

Bear with me through this reference, I normally hate the following company but in this particular example they are perfect for proving my point.
A perfect example is the ever popular WoW addon Deadly Boss Mod (DBM). DBM was an addon developed by a third party programmer, and yet its huge popularity actually allowed Blizzard to design raid encounters with the assumption that players would be using DBM.

This allowed Blizzard to create far more intricate and complex raid encounters than was previously possible (of course they later started catering to kids and as a result raid encounters became ever more simplified but that’s beside the point). And all because of a third party program that was not Blizzard’s original design.

My point here is that just because something is not designed by a game company does not mean it is not useful and should not be used. ANet has even explicitly stated that players should be using GW2LFG.

Now if your argument is that this is laziness on ANet’s part and that they should design their own LFG system then I ask you to think about that for a moment. GW2LFG works perfectly right now, so why should ANet waste time on developing their own version of something that already exists when they could be working to fix/balance other mechanics and/or add new content?

Finding dungeons via GW2LFG is completely fine and should be used by anyone looking for dungeon PUGs.

But this is a tangent, so:

TL;DR
The fact of the matter is (as has been stated above) that the ability to group with different servers for dungeons (which is a great feature by itself) in conjunction with stupidly frequent contested dungeons has created an annoying and useless situation. Contested CoF does not stop players from consecutive speed runs, but it does discourage players from doing their dailies.

I have never even seen a dungeon?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Prism.5649

Prism.5649

Never seen a dungeon, basically quit the game till a dungeon finder gets in. There is better things to do then wait hours for a group.

I call BS and laziness on this.

Even getting a group for Arah (probably the most difficult dungeon to start up because it can be so incredibly frustrating and few people want to do it) is not difficult and only took me about an hour today.

-

Here’s some advice for you:

Use GW2LFG (and if you have problems using third party websites then get over yourself; it’s safe and effective).

We can be in multiple guilds at the same time with this game, so even if you have a guild of friends who don’t like to do dungeons it doesn’t matter. Find a new guild that does dungeons and only rep them when you need a group.

Be conscious of your server’s peak hours. Finding a group at low-pop times is obviously harder than at peak. Granted this point of advice can be the most difficult to follow because your RL schedule may preclude you from logging in during peak hours, but nevertheless work with what you have.

Be proactive. Don’t just list yourself as LFG and then wait around for hours hoping four people will magically come take you along for a dungeon. Get out there and make a name for yourself and be aggressive in getting people into your group. Hop back and forth between LA and your dungeon zone shouting out your recruitment.

Two years ago MMOs did not have an automated LFG system, and yet people were still perfectly able to put groups together by actually communicating with their community. Guess what? That hasn’t changed, and it is still perfectly possible to do so. In fact it’s even easier with GW2 because you can group with people on different servers without needing to use an automated LFG, so even being on a low pop server is no excuse.

GW2 has an LFG system, it simply is not in the actual game yet. This does not mean that GW2LFG is not useful, because it is in fact very popular, easy to use, and facilitates very easy group building. There are even smartphone apps for it.

If you are truly using all the tools at your disposal then there is no reason whatsoever for not being able to get a dungeon group together. Just today I have already farmed CoF (with different people and sometimes without any guildies) so many times that even with DR on tokens I have already bought 3 pieces of armor.

five small unimportant things

in Elementalist

Posted by: Prism.5649

Prism.5649

First of all I think you may have the wrong idea about the Elementalist. Even though we can specialize our traits into one or a few of the elements, this does not reflect the actual gameplay of the profession. No matter how you spend your trait points you should be swapping Attunements very frequently. This is a core mechanic of Elementalists and is not a result of how you spend your traits.

You mention the AoE effects being PBAoEs (Player-Based Area of Effects), and this is true. These effects are very useful in any build and here is why: In a Dagger/Dagger build (very powerful with surprisingly high survivability) you are in melee range and directly benefit from these effects. However even if you are using a ranged playstyle you will still often find that players or monsters will get into melee range despite your efforts to stay away from them. When this happens those PBAoEs come in very handy.

As mentioned Lingering Elements could definitely use a buff/fix so that it properly affects all the bonuses you get from attuning.

Also as mentioned, 2s of Fury can be incredibly powerful. 2s is a long time in the heat of battle. You mention that when you switch Attunements you “auto attack before choosing the strong attack”, I don’t know why you would do this. You should know exactly which skill you want to use before you switch Attunements, and you should be ready to activate that skill immediately. Also remember that you can swap Attunements during a spell cast, allowing some time for you to reposition your fingers (although this shouldn’t really be necessary…).

Flame Barrier is really more of a PvP/solo trait.

As to your mention about Zephyr’s Speed, I do agree that the Air Traits and Skills could use some work in the movement speed area. Because all of our Swiftness Skills are located in the Air Attunement, they are basically only about 54% as powerful as they would be without this trait.

Conjured Weapons changing depending on Attunement would be pretty cool, but the amount of balancing that they would have to go through would be crazy, and I for one would rather ANet spend its time fixing other areas of the Ele first.

To your comment about Attunement recharge, I honestly cannot see how you can complain about this. With 30 points in Arcana we only have a 9s recharge on Attunements which is the same as other Profession’s Weapon Swap. The difference is we have 4 Attunements while other Professions have 2 Weapons. As it is Elementalist’s already have an advantage with how quickly we can access our alternate Skills, so there is really no need to reduce the cooldown.

op if you find the content not hard i think you will ned a little for new content. i read a interview from a developer of gw2 that said that when they released the dungeons for testing, the teams that were involved after alot of runs and understanding the mechanics said that they were quite easy, but for gw2 developers they prefered to not buff them because since it was the release of the game players were new to the game so it was simpler to understand the mechanics.
so i think you can expect harder content in time to come, just be patient, a mmo is for years, not weeks

If what you say is true then you have given me hope, and I thank you for that. It is very true that MMO’s are long term games, and that is why I have not yet given up on GW2. I very much hope that new challenging content (with real mechanics) will be released at some point in the future.

As to Hsinimod, you clearly have never participated in a real raid. I feel like I have already made enough walls of text so instead of explaining some fight mechanics to you I instead encourage you to go look up some videos of Rift Hammerknell encounters. You will very shortly find that running out of red circles is the absolute most basic mechanic and is by no means the only mechanic.

As to your comment about repeating content to get higher stats, read what I wrote instead of wasting my time and yours.

Raiders absolutely exhaust content eventually, but not always before new content is released. Yet another perfect example is Rift. Rift has four 20-man raids: Greenscale’s Blight, River of Souls, Hammerknell, and Infernal Dawn. When Infernal Dawn was released most guilds were not even three quarters of the way through Hammerknell. Some game companies can release content faster than players can finish it, meaning no down time of “farming” raids waiting for the next content to be released.

Next time read before posting please.

People obviously don’t read past the initial “gear carrot”.

His point is there is no fun/challenging content at end game. Regardless if said content is rewarding or not.

It’s ok if content is actually fun, but not rewarding.

It’s ok if content isn’t fun, but is rewarding.

It’s not ok if content isn’t fun, and isn’t rewarding.

Ideally, content should be fun AND rewarding.

It’s nice to see someone who understands, and nice job putting that thought into a super simple format. This is exactly my thought; I don’t much care about the rewards from dungeons/raids: My reward is doing the raid itself. Dungeons in GW2 are not challenging in the least, and thus are not fun, and thus are not rewarding. They present an opportunity to grind gear but do not present any reason for getting that gear.

To all the people above me who obviously did not read my wall of text:

I do not raid in other MMO’s to get cool looking gear. I raid in other MMO’s because the raid itself is fun and challenging. I could care less about my gear; once I find a decent looking set I tend to use appearance slots/transmutation zones to keep that set anyway.

GW2 is exactly the same as other MMO’s in that you have to grind out gear. The only difference is that GW2 gets rid of the only fun reason for having that gear.

And yes raids have lockouts, which I’ll be the first to admit is very annoying. However there are multiple raids (even Rift, which is not that old and is my favorite standard MMO, has 6+ raids). Thats a raid for every night so I fail to see how lockouts are that big of a deal.

No, it’s different in that you don’t have to grind out the gear. The stats the same as any crafted exotic gear.

The dungeons are not there to gives you gear, the dungeons are there for content, so you can just have fun while playing them. I have done so far, except Caudecus manor, that one was very frustrating and boring. The rewards (in the form of loot from enemies, chests, gold AND the tokens) are a bonus for me. There are 33 dungeon quest lines in total, if you have not done all of them, I would suggest getting friends together and just going through them. Feel free to skip Caudecu’s manor though.

But there are other things to do at lvl 80 too:
Explore the world (and I don’t mean just getting 100%, I mean exploring, there are many jumping quests, there are many secret areas, talking to npcs can give you such information to find these places. sPvP obviously (and tournaments, which in my opinion, is the only worthwhile thing to do in sPvP at the moment). WvW (get a small group and cause havoc, zerg vs zerg battles do not last long. Dungeons (as I have stated above), and if you want, you can grind them to get unique armor and weapon skins. Find the world events and do them (the three dragons, and the other huge mobs that spawn in certain zones, like in the south east corner of queens dale). Make a new char if you with, of a different race and different class, so you can try different story quests and maybe explore the starting zones you haven’t done yet. Legendary weapons.

And you can also stop playing the game and come back at any time. There will be new content soon, and it will be free. People do forget this one, or they feel the need to come here and state this to everyone.

If you’re not going to spend the time to read what I wrote then please don’t waste your time and mine by responding with things that I have already outlined.

As I specifically said, dungeons are indeed fun the first time through, but after that they are quite simply a joke. The bosses present no real threat to any cohesive team and the rewards have no practical application once you have your endgame gear (which is pointless to get because there is nothing to do with it).

Exploring the world is what Skyrim is for (because lord knows its good for nothing other than pretty scenery). However I will grant you that the jumping puzzles were fun. Yet again though, once you have done them they become boring.

As I stated, World Events are a nice idea, but in practice they are nothing more than giant zergs with no real challenge.

sPvP and WvW are fun, but sPvP gets old after a while until new game modes are released. WvW is really the only aspect of this game that has any sort of replay value.

And as I said I still play another MMO for raiding, but after the combat system of GW2 other MMOs feel slow and awkward.

Edit:
To the poster who said that WvW is the most unique PvP experience in a long time, I laugh at that. WvW is very fun and as I said is the only aspect of GW2 that has any sort of replay value. Nevertheless, it really is nothing more than a suped up version of WoW’s Wintergrasp/Tol Barad or Rift’s Conquest. It is without a doubt a copy off those two games, albeit it is a much better version of them.

Someone mentioned before that no matter what you do in an MMO it’s a grind for something, and that’s almost true. Raids are the one thing that need not be a grind. Raids can be fought through entirely for their own purpose of being fun.

And yes raids have lockouts, which I’ll be the first to admit is very annoying. However there are multiple raids (even Rift, which is not that old and is my favorite standard MMO, has 6+ raids). Thats a raid for every night so I fail to see how lockouts are that big of a deal.

TL;DR
GW2 has not gotten rid of grinding. It has not eliminated the “carrot on a stick”. It has simply eliminated the carrot and done nothing with the stick by removing the one thing that grinding was used for. Other MMOs have a carrot of “grind for cool gear with better stats so you can do amazingly fun raids”. GW2 has a carrot of “grind for cool gear so you can…do nothing with it”.

Prism.5649

INCOMING WALL OF TEXT – BEWARE (there’s a tl;dr at the bottom)

So after reaching level 80 and finishing most of the dungeons on explorable mode at least once, what is there to do?

Many people say keep doing dungeons or dynamic events to farm tokens/karma to get weapon/armor skins, but what really is the point of that? The cool looking gear does nothing except make my pixels look cool. I can find cool looking pixels on google without spending hours grinding out currencies. Granted dungeons are fun the first few times, but even in explorable mode there are no real mechanics so the fights get extraordinarily tedious very quickly.

Most MMO’s have what are commonly called Raids at endgame, which are similar to GW2 dungeons except that they usually require 10-20 players and contain boss creatures with true mechanics that make them challenging and fun. The downside to these raids is that often times you must grind lesser raids or dungeons to get better gear to keep you alive in the high end raids.

Arena Net says they have done away with this need to grind, but that’s misleading. Instead of eliminating the need to grind, ANet simply eliminated the raids altogether. This means that unless you plan to stick only to PvP, once you hit level 80 there is very little to do. You can of course do dungeons to get better looking gear, but that’s exactly the same thing you do in other MMO’s with one exception: There is nothing to do with that gear once you get it. This essentially means that ANet kept the boring grind aspect of MMOs, but got rid of the real reward for grinding (yes cool weapons are cool, but I want all that hard work grinding to actually mean something other than a cool picture on my screen).

Now before all the nay-sayers start flaming me about how no one cares about elitists and better gear and blah-blah-blah, let me stop you by saying I agree. I don’t care about getting better gear so I can make bigger numbers appear on screen. What I care about is challenging myself against challenging boss mechanics and the feeling of triumph when my team finally overcomes that challenge. I had hoped that Dungeons in GW2 could fill that niche for the more hardcore PvE’ers out there, but unfortunately even in explorable mode most dungeons are a joke. The only real mechanic prevalent in dungeons is the most basic mechanic available to PvE: stay out of fire. Dodge-rolling when a red circle appears is not a true mechanic, and does not lend itself to fun gameplay.

Dynamic Events are pretty to watch and sometimes have an interesting backstory, but to call them anything other than zergfests would be an outright joke. I was very much looking forward to the famous Shatterer event at 50, but it turned out to be nothing more than “attack this leg in front of me…oh look the dragon flew up so I should avoid those red circles…oh look the dragon landed again, back to attacking this leg in front of me…oh look the dragon died, yay…”. Dynamic Events are in no way any sort of replacement for raids, and I don’t think they were ever meant to be.

The PvP of this game is fun, even if the single battle mode of sPvP gets old after a while, but for a game with 80 levels and so many Dynamic Events I would think that PvE should have more to offer than just grinding out useless gear.

Maybe this is why GW2 has no monthly subscription? It’s a shame because I am absolutely in love with the way combat works here; actually being able to dodge attacks and needing to semi-aim your own attacks is infinitely better than the random chance to dodge or block attacks that most MMO’s have. I like the weapon-based skills and being able to swap weapons/attunements/kits on the fly and I would absolutely die for a standard MMO raid with GW2 combat. As it stands now however I need to raid on a different MMO with combat that feels slow an clunky while I try to eek out a little bit of fun from blowing away the easy dungeons of GW2…

TL;DR
So my question is thus: What is there to do at level 80 for someone interested in PvE? Dungeons and DE’s are nothing more than an easy grind for useless gear, crafting can be a bit interesting but ultimately is the same grind for useless gear, and exploring the world is fun for a while but becomes repetitive quickly (if I wanted to enjoy beautiful landscapes I would play Skyrim).

I agree with the posters above me. While Elementalists absolutely, without a doubt need some serious love, I call either ignorance or trolling from the OP. There is no way an equally geared player hit for that much damage right off the bat. Either the OP was a fresh 80 with crap gear, was lower level than the Thief, or there were other third party forces in action (such as orbs).

While its fun to rag on the profession you play and it makes you feel more comfortable (i.e. “It’s not my fault I died, I’m an amazing player! It was all because the profession I play is horrible!!!1”) the fact of the matter is Elementalists can be serious contenders in the right hands. Like I said before we absolutely need some serious attention and we are definitely one of the lower tier professions right now, but the fact still remains that we are not solely restricted by the limitations of our class. Making fun of Eles is fun and all, and I do it myself in guild chat all the time, but try not to blow things out of proportion here guys.

Chasing power = attacking an enemy who is running away from you.
Stopping power = stopping an enemy from accomplishing some task, such as taking a waypoint or setting up combo fields that will demolish your group.

Top notch sir! I thoroughly enjoyed these videos and I eagerly await new installments. Like many people I always considered the Mesmer fun but underpowered. After watching these videos and tuning my builds and playstyle I have come to realize that in no way are Mesmers underpowered. Anyone who complains about the Mesmer has clearly not seen these videos.

My hat off to you MrPrometheus, you’ve done the Mesmer community an enormous favor!
