Volks World [VW]
Hello! I play PVE almost exclusively, and don’t have an 80 yet. Most suggestions I see from current players encourage folks to enjoy the PVE world, hearts, and exploration as much as possible, and I really love that aspect of the game. It’s hard for me to be satisfied with my character’s look, though, as better pieces of gear seem to drop from every other mob while levelling up. This is fabulous, as I’m never too far under-geared, but I end up looking like a bum, lol!
I understand the new Wardrobe system lets us access more skins easily, but it doesn’t appear to solve my problem of needing tons of transmutations to maintain a single look while levelling. In effect, transmuting skins isn’t very practical for me until I hit 80 and get “good” gear that I don’t have to change. I know buying charges with gems is an income source for ANet, but is there a possibility that this system might be re-worked in the future to allow us a single character look while going through the meat of the game?
Also, more specifically: will we be able to unlock all the profession starter gear (facepaint/masks for necros, pauldrons for guardians, etc.) for the wardrobe, and will we have to re-create characters to unlock them all? And will Cultural armor/weapon skins be useable before the weapons themselves are equipable?
Thanks! I was looking at the stickies and just noticed that. :-)
I guess we haven’t had any hard info on these yet. Several other posters have shown concern over acquisition of Trans. Charges, but I think I understand now that the Wardrobe system isn’t meant to make it possible to change your armor more often than you do already – it’s only meant to make it easier to access unlocked looks across your account. In essence, it’s easier to get the armor/weapon skin you want, but you’ll never be able to re-skin your gear as often as better gear drops for pre-80 toons. I can deal with that, but lots of folks worry about the effects of this on town clothes. :-(
I’d still love to know about the unique starter armor skins, and the cultural gear skins, too. I’m assuming these are not changing – in effect you’ll need to be lv80 before re-skinning anything becomes practical, and you’ll probably have to re-create toons to unlock the special starter skins. I wish it wasn’t so, but it’s looking that way. Since actually playing the game and enjoying the content from 1-80 is the reason we’re here, it would be nice to be able to freely customize our toons before we hit max level and get kittened-out gear, without worrying about running out of Trans. Charges.
I’d love to see more “normal” beards for Norns, too. Although I made my human as old-looking as possible, but the Personal Story dialogues always refer to him as “boy” or “young lad” lol!!
What irks me is about this situation is players who obsess over min-maxing. I totally understand that mid- to high-level fractals are really hard, and I respect players who want to conquer them with other skilled allies, but posts like this remind me too much of end game raiding in WoW (i.e. If your gear score isn’t as big as mine, you can’t play this game properly, so stfu).
A few people have posted what I feel is the correct answer – if you want to play high-level content with players you feel are as skilled/well geared as you, find or create a talented Guild of like-minded folks, or make real friend connections in the game world to build your team. Don’t just expect A-Net to design the game around your high-end content min-maxing OCD so that you don’t have to bother finding “good” players.
I play PVE, solo mostly, and don’t have 80s to grind gear/gold/etc, so having no repair costs will be amazing for me. Taking the “trinity” out and making each class self-sufficient has been wonderful, but it makes staying alive more difficult with the smaller heals, if you’re not over-levelled and over geared for the content you play, imho.

I’m so excited about the new wardrobe system coming in April! My wife and I were wondering about a few specific features:
1. Will the unique ‘starter’ armor be an unlocked skin? And will you need to create a new toon to unlock each piece per class (each mask for Necros/Mes, both shoulder and helm for Guard, etc.)?
2. Will the skins unlock on purchase, or on use? (i.e. if we buy Cultural Tier 2 at low level, can we immediately use the skin, or must we wait until we can equip?)
3. Do we know for sure if the Transmutation Charges will be easily obtainable? Levelling in PVE you change armor every other Reknown Heart, and if I want to keep one look on my toon it would take a tremendous amount of charges. I have no level 80s, I don’t run dungeons or WvW at epic levels, and I don’t play the TP minigame – I’m just a humble, casual player in a 2-man guild who loves the lore and PVE world of GW – so “oh yeah, just grind them on your 80” would not be a useful suggestion. :-p
Any advice or confirmed info would be greatly appreciated!
Same here – did puzzle the normal way, killed veteran, gate opened, no chest or NPC.
