I don’t need to drop $50 to playtest the DH because I have more than enough hours on my Guardians to know that this is not at all what the class needs to remain competitive.

are you serious?? you are one the most vocal vocies against the DH and you have zero playtime on the elite spec?

You have literally no experience how the bow behaves, how the damage feels, what numbers you can actually produce, how traits connect and what not and you are dissing the elite spec and everyone who has even the slightest love for the spec.

I know enough about the game and the base class to not need to play it. I’ve seen videos and talked to guildies that have tried it. That’s given me more than enough information to know that it’s not worth my time. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to look at a trait list and see the potential interactions with other traits, which, in the case of the DH in relation to the base class, is very little.

So quite frankly, I don’t care what you feel the need to tell me. If you want to make things personal, fine, that’s your call. But I guarantee it won’t end well.

Man you are toxic. Relax, and be constructive and TRY to see someones opinion from their POV and not yours. your supposed to be hear to socialize, be constructive, and rarely come up with something new to help out the professional developers work.

All of your replies are so rude, AND if your this invested in gw2, you really should consider getting HoT back then even if it was just for the beta access…You are enjoying the tireless work of a company, between LS1 LS2, BL skins, fractals, and many more updates since launch.

You seem to have good points, but it is hard to listen to someone so volatile and toxic.

i loveeee it! it was one of my weakness on my conjure base ele pve build. having no stab or mainly stunbreak. tempest fixes this for me! and obvi conjure has great synergy for tempest to begin with. anet is doin my ele some love and im happy

I am surprised you found this, a strange interaction bug between two of the most unusable aspects of elemenatlist. Why bother to fix conjures…they have already been thrown on the garbage bin of “dead skills.” Overloads were born in that pile and never left.

You’ve not been trying enough with conjures. And Tempest + Conjure is actually pretty instinctive, at least for me. But I am also a master of discovering weird elementalist bugs.

in pve i main conjures with staff. i even soloed lupi with all conjure and tempest staff….i am pretty sure dropping a conjure ALWAYS cancels a skill. including your heal, util, and elite.

I don’t think its a bug and if it is, what does it matter? you gain no benefit having a different skill bar view while channeling, or do you?

Stop using HOW a dungeon is designed and how the combat system works as validation for the need of trinity. That is a flaw in dungeon design, please try to focus on how the combat mechanics work. If you guys have ever tried to do a dungeon without zerk gear? Stacking is an exploit(i am aware its not an illegal one), the mechanics needed to legitimately beat a dungeon is fun and engaging.

The only trinity game I played was gw1, I was ok at it, but even back then I tried to solo content. The only time we were face rolling stuff was when i was put where I belonged(fire ele) in the back lines with the monk clicking and pushing the skill button for fire storm. I remember yea I do so much damage(but if those warriors weren’t here I be creamed so this seems weird).

I don’t wanna talk about monster hunter too much, but one poster mentioned its a stat based game. No its not, there stats to fine tune the game, but as another poster mentioned just having the appropriate damage weapon, everything comes down to mechanics. In fact most speed runners run kitten armor with that felyn heroic skill and keep their health so low if they sneezed they die. They know all the monster moves and just dodge everything and bring down g rank foes in under2-5 minutes. There going full zerk essentially BUT you still need to have your A-game to make sure you dont die, something I wish arena net did bring into gw2. I think they should reward players for knowing the in’s and outs of a boss so well that they cna run full zerk and do well. I just think the AI needs to be a hell of alot smarter to stop allowing stacks.

Also one of my main points is that alot of people got this game BECAUSE it has no trinity. It would be so kittenty if one day anet was just like jk heres trinity eff all of you that thought you would never see this….I don’t understand why so many people want trinity when there still are trinity games out there they can go play.

The point is that I wanted to point out other successful difficult content games that have similar elements to gw2 play style.

And especially how HoT is really capitalizing on its good elements IMO.

The ‘point’ is to bring attention to a lot of players this. It seems a common misconception that since most good quality difficult mmos, also happen to have a trinity system, that it is neccessary for that type of experience.

MH is a wonderful game though, so I applaud you on having excellent taste ;P

it would be nice if GW2 was more like MH, but that would require enemies to have noticable tells, yet also fairly rapid attacks, the only one I found that comes close to a MH-feel is the nageling giant, and it attacks slower than a lao-shan after eating sleepyfish.

I personally go out of my way to solo champs, and I’ve been working on soloing arah. I’m trying to get my mh crew into gw and I honestly feel and tell them, the harder content in gw is basically mh combat for a short duration. Fighting lupi is a blasttttttt! His tells are obvious but not too long, if you mess up IT HURTS, actually just everything about fighting Champs and the bosses in arah is a blast.

I’ve been looking into the fractal content, because for the few I be done it’s been cool to see bosses with mechanics. True most dungeons are easy. But I mean there just a gold grind. There not really a point to make them tough. And everything in verdant brink is so much fun to fight.

I can’t imagine pvp with a trinity style. I love pvping how I get such a good feeling, similar to playing smash brothers whenever I play that game mode. I was just annoyed yesterday when too many posts referred to the ability to dodge roll making gw impossible to have difficult content. First thing I thought of is the renowned mh franchise and uhhh darksouls? Lol

Recently just saw a trinity thread, and maaaaan the amount of fanboys is ridiculous.

One don’t belong to a forum or game that DOESNT AND ADVERTISES IT WONT have trinity. you bought it deal with it.

Second, mainly to the people that think the zerk meta is due to the fact gw2 focuses on an emphasis on rolling and learning tells. “OH ofc the game will be easy all you have to do is roll blah blah blah”

Drop some knowledge on ya guys who THINK that a game has to be difficult to require different stat specs.

Please look up monster hunter. It is one of japan’s TOP video games. It is made by capcom. been around longer? then gw1. It has NO stats, but armor skills. and guess what you just hit kitten n it dies.

How is this gameplay difficult? Well first of all, the monsters can and will combo you if your scrub. This makes learning adn studying your opponent a huge part of the gameplay. Until you master all of its tells you will get creamedddd. I have never ever been ever to play monster hunter without sitting upright and being at full attention.

Why I LOVEEEE guild wars 2. it brougth ALOT of the fun and rewarding mechanics of that game into a very massive mulitplayer environment.

There is no active skill in a trinity, it is just someone thats good with spreadsheets designing the OP set up for a full party, running said build in a dungeon, standing still, clicking buttons in a sequence.

if i wanted to practice hitting keys, i be in a band playing keyboard.

I GET its fun to play with builds and get some sweet synergy between them. but its WAY more fun getting small synergy in a build itself, but massive synergy with your own playstyle and say a team mates? i love the pvp in this game. its fantastic and feels so evenly matched and SO many different builds and player set ups its amazing. i cant even imagine how boringgg trinity would be in pvp.

leave trinity to RTS games and enjoy being IN the game in gw2.

Ok ok, I can see what your saying about the passive on the elitefacet boon. I wonder if your under the boon protection if glints heal is somewhat nerfed because there is less incoming damage? Also just to clarify I loveeee the actives of all of her skills. Especially the elite one, it’s so good. My opinion was just to swap the boon associated with the facet.

Also that dodge baiting technique by cancelling the skill is genius!!!

My opinion on what I saw and experienced in BWE2 (first time posting so any other players feel free to criticize things i’m not accounting for/and delivery of information)

So I kinda sat for awhile here before I wrote anything. I realized all my side notes were just on gameplay mechanics, but after finishing writing my Herald review(and maybe being TOO big of a woodenpotatoe fan) I just feel the fizz is not there for the elite spec. But I think I found something that will def help me and hopefully my fellow ele community get the fizz for this spec. Bring in some SERIOUS CC for this weapon. Maybe even add it to some of the overload abilities? I mean it would be SOO COOL to be able to really lock down a target during combat. Sure I would not mind sacrificing some DPS or even sacrificing tempest being a meta dungeon build to have the access in open PvE, WvW, and PvP as CC gods! but anyway onto my actual feed back~

Pro’s – observations of synergy with rest of gw2

It really DOES make you play any existing builds a little differently. After being so used to having three full trait lines readily available to us, it suckssss having to sacrifice one for the tempest and really makes you learn how to compensate for it and try to maximize all the mechanics tempest give you. It is pretty cool how supporty the Ele really has been buffed. I always play front lines and for once I am actually a bit more aware of whats going on around me more-so for my allies sake. It feels GREAT to use warhorn earth skill 5 when you see an ally desperately trying to heal or getting CC’d down and being so vulnerable and being like nope! known of you guys get to see now(blind) lol. I like the cool AoEness of everything, especially the water overload. Whenever I do use it, I notice it. Which is great because I ve actually caught myself since the beta being like (esp with all the f2p’s we mentor) oh no I’ll just overload this and mass heal everyone…oh wait.

Con’s – solutions
Small buff to fire warhorn skills. Firefield earlier on skill 5 mainly. I have blasted that rectangle sooooo many times only to realize recently that the very last part of the rectangle(after the fire is done creeping) is where the firefield is. WHAT?! Nothing visual or in the tool tips that says this, or this is bug? I hope it is a bug, because one of my favorite synergies with scepter ele is the fury on auras, AND the auto fire aura when going into fire, I alwayssss try to get in a dragon’s tooth and find a fire field to also hit the phoenix on before my fury runs out. Previously with a focus you can summon the tooth, lay down the fire field, and hit with phoenix doing GREAT damage and getting 2 blasts out of it. Trying to repeat that in my rotation with warhorn and if I wait out the fire field to finish to blast it with phoenix, my fury has long been gone. Maybe add cripple(short duration but pulsing) with skill 5?

-Also would love to see skill 4 in air for warhorn aim like skill 5. It is a great pre -skill before skill 5 in air but it makes me feel forced to CC the enemies where they are? That seems kinda silly. It would be nice to CC the enemies in any direction sayyyy into an ally AoE then? Man what a sweet hit that be! pull the foes into aa area with heavy ally AoE, then follow by your skill 5 in air. Short combo, but definitely a nice quick DPS for just some good mechanics. ESP if you attune into air as you do this combo, getting the 2 lightning strikes with it, whew that be a nice quick insta kill on some mob coming at you mid fight say after exhausting your fire attunement.

Overall review

-Super cool if those water warhorn skills applied some sort of CC condi like chill or short freeze on one of the skills. Earth IMO is fine BECAUSE the overload provides cripple, the front line support is fun. its nice dropping dust storm on low health allies and swapping to water for quite a few heals with s/warhorn and then being able to also overload for even more quick saves for allies. it leaves a cool impression(similar to rev) how at one second you’re supplying might, dps, really laying the hammer down, then you can kinda back peddle and help mitigate some damage and control for teammates and buy them those few seconds for some of their own CD’s to pass and pick themselves back up. Almost like a front line version of the staff I guess, except not as squishy?

I played mainly knight stats with scepter/warhorn. Specc’ed fire 3 1 2; air 1, 2, 2; tempest 3, 2 ,3. Ether renewal, Frost bow, Armor of Earth, Glyph of Storms, Tornado(I mean cmon your a tempest!)

Herald

Pro’s – observations of synergy with rest of gw2

Herald is a great addition to the Revenant class. It really feels like something about the class changed in a good way. By using Glint it allows you to make your other specs really shine and give usability to pretty much any weapon set. For example, I was attempting a condi tank with my Revenant using mace/axe and sword/shield. I was using Dire or Rabid stats, I can’t remember. However the fact that I had no power and could still crit with Facet of Darkness AND stack 20 vulnerability instantly made Glint give my build some sweet flexibility without sacrificing anything. I thought it was super cool to be able to have amazing boon output as well as conditions at the same time. The support possibilities for Herald with or without Jalis/Ventari are many.
Herald is great, because IMO elites should be about giving the class something it can’t do, and Glint without a doubt at the very least makes the class feel so different. Without Glint I feel the revenant is a very cool class that has the ability to almost swap build in combat. Going from pure condi to pure dps say with mallyx mace/axe to sword sword shiro, very cool idea say for fighting husks to just fightings small squishy opponents. I LOVE how energy is insta refilled to 50% it REALLYYYY makes it feel like hey, I am starting over, and I am NOW a tank. and ready to pop whatever skills you swapped the legend for. Cool part that herald gives to the Rev is that it allows the rev to either capitalize farther into their spec, allows usability of pretty much any weapon set with some sort of synergy. Ex: I was attempting a condi tank idea with my rev. used mace axe and sword shield. I was running dire or rabids i forget BUT I have no power. like none. I was using sword for the invuln while channeling skill 3. BUT if I popped one of glints facets, I get 20 stacks of vuln on the foe while I am blinking about. That is a 20% damage buff! and if I use the facet that causes perma fury boon now I’m criticing adding an additional %150 damage to my hits. ACTUALLY allowing to get some damage from the skill, that’s main purpose originally is defense despite being full condi.
It is cool gameplay to see Glint allow this sort of weird synergy with almost anything. It is jack of all trades, done very very well.

Something I love about Glint’s feel
Heal skill is fantastic and truly gives the rev a distinct tank feel when swapping to glint in battle. I ran into enemy AoE’s so many times to almost full burst my health up. This was especially helpful due to the amount of self harm I cast on myself while channeling Malyx. It is a fun and cool mechanic to feel rewarded for being aware during the fight. I run a tank ele build that surprise focuses on the signet of restoration, so all I do is use my dps rotation on attunements until i go hmmm my health is low SPAM ALL SKILLS ok health is good now back to dps…BUT I am not always reallyy looking at combat sometimes and doing the fearful HUD gameplay where I click buttons to make one bar go down and another go up lol. Glints heal IMO can be very rewarding when actually being very visually engaged in fights both in PvE and PvP. Infact sometimes I would let those baby wyverns start there crazy fire AoE just so i could pop my heal and essentially utilize their own damage for my gain. What a cool mechanic!

Not so great stuff
Shield skill #4 – PROTECTION IS NOT LONG ENOUGH on skill 4. It is gone before I even get hit. Quick devils advocate to myself “Oh hey roman just use the f2 facet for extra boon duration, if you have the shield you obviously have access to it.” BUT why can’t one of my skills just be usable on its own? Healing could use a small increase, but otherwise currently is useful for helping keep an ally up longer for a couple of seconds or to put myself in a more comfortable pool of current health without over healing with a true heal skill.

Con’s – solutions

Shield skill # 5 -I know this is a common complaint but it is not as good as some core classes invuln skills. In fact the heal for a guardian is almost as long as the herald skill 5 AND heals WHILE being mobile. at the very least, don’t make the herald immobile. you just feel like a sitting duck. OR give health pulses while channeling skill 5, incentive to not end the channel early after blocking that heavy attack AND even more incentive for opponents to really want to break bar you.

Elite Skill Glint – Protection boon on the facet is useless. There I said it, I mean okay the idea of the perma boon is great fantastic, good support. But FIVE energy degen?! My god, that means IF I am also using weapon skills I get maybe 4-6 of them b4 im out of energy. AND if I want to use any other facet I am looking at some seriously quick energy depletion. So either move this boon to say the facet that grants might or I guess maybe remove energy costs on weapons while running this facet? I mean it is just ridiculous to do anything with this facet that’s not going to neuter so much of the revenant’s other gameplay.

AND speaking of the might facet, anyone else think this is a littttle broken? So I ran(with aid of my gf) 2 rev’s with f2 facet and might facet active. Periodically might stacking(mace skill 2/axe skill 3) and we could easily keep ourselves at perma 25 might. WHAT the most ridiculous part is that I STILL had energy regen. So even with my periodic might stacking I was averaging around %48 energy OOC. Woah that is strong! The worstttt part in my opinion is that BESIDES the fact that I guess I have to run herald, I have 0 sacrifices to my build. I still was fully traited for what I consider to be a condi tank. So I could still continue my role as intended AND give out 25might? Crazy lol(However being my own devil advocate once again – ele can burst 25 might, while this method takes time to ramp up, maybe it IS balanced in the fact that it removes the revenant access to their 2nd legend, due to the loss of facet upkeep if legend is swapped and CD experienced to swap back into the legend??) But i don’t know I feel like THIS should cause the rev to have 0 regen. Really make the revenant manage those energy skills in consequence of perma 25 might. Which is why I would really like to see the might boon swapped onto the elite facet. And allow the protection boon some more gameplay.

Overall review
GREAT elite, it has serious synergy with all types of play styles. personally experimented with condi/tank build using mallyx and herald. I believe I was running full Dire stats, and can say it was a freakin blast running around both the new map, PvP and some dungeon runs as this build. I think this class is sooooo close to perfect. Just think it needs a few small tunes here and there. At least from what I got to play with.

i love tempest and have 500+hours on ele. its a much needed aoe up front damage. since i fight on the front lines as a tank. also it works reallyyy well with a fun cnojure staff build and actually makes it seem useful! i tried it in pvp and it did well for some reason >.<

I don’t intend to on my mains. I don’t feel like they lack anything and I’m happy with the set ups they have. I’m not big on swapping around builds, esp with no build saving – an essential tool which must exist for that to happen.

My fringe toons though, will prob get some elites. Reaper for my necro for certain and chrono for mesmer.

i agree with this so much! i have found a personal fix for this by running a folder on the google drive i use for the game. its very easy with dual monitors to write down on a cloud server and access on any machine! just an idea that may give you the flixibility to tinker more often

I would have to disagree on the your notion of saying the elite spec should be a core spec, i TOTALLY agree in the fact that it can boast very good synergy with any build, but thats why i think its kinda cool? Each legendary has a very distinct feel and I think the COOLEST part of playing as a rev is that you literally swap our your 1-0 skills to go from say condi, to like a tank build, or support and tank etc. I think glint is just a huge quality of life that will feel more rewarding if its earned leveling up to level 80.

skill 5 on shield is not terrrrrible, but i agree its not good either.

I thought about that too, unfortunately my friends have never played a mmo before, and I think that sitting and being ‘watched’ playing the first time would steer them away from it. I think they would get hooked best if they could do it alone in the comfort of their own home. I also thought about giving them my credentials so they could, but I decided I didn’t like the off chance they click a wrong button and delete any of my stuff.

I guess I should maybe call support and ask for the criteria. Thank you for the idea and concerns though stranger!

Hey, I saw an old google search that lead a GW page about downloading a demo, and to sign up to receive notifications of future demo opportunities. Any idea how often these are? I obviously already have GW2 but I am looking to get friends involved!

Awesome! Thanks everyone for there advice and comments Im starting to lean more towards Guardian, just because my 2 friends are going a more Range approach to the game. Anyone else have any other advice?!

i am new to GW2 also and started with ele. I find it to be super versatile. since then ive made a thief and necro, but have a hard time adjusting to those professions because of the lack of skills(at least for what ive unlocked so far!)

if you guys want a fourth to party up with you lmk! i been looking for low level friends to play with!
