Just fyi skill 2 is aoe I believe on air staff. Your opinion is still valid, but sometimes it might be worth sending an AOE blind.
Another trick I think alot of ppl might not know about meteor shower. Obvi is has a far range BUT if you cast metoer shower at max range then use lightning flash to blink as far as possible away from your target, it won’t interrupt your cast and continue post teleport. You can either do that or AOE yourself.and when your about to be hit, use it as a dodge. Alot of times when walls are being sieged I get close enuf to meteor shower then blink to safety while I kill 3-10 ppl. I guess most eles just get pulled off the wall or killed themselves sitting their channeling it.
I like to run superspeed, arcane shield, and blink in wvw for maximum uptime on channels for both OLs and meteor shower.
Obvi I’m not a pro, but if you don’t know how blink interacts it may change your perspective
Air 2 has the 2ed longest cast time for staff skills and dose some of the lowest dmg and worst soft cc in the game. Its not that it takes to long for the skill to go off its the fact that the cast time where you cant cast any other skills with a cast time is so long due to its “flashy cast effect” (the reason why i think they are unwilling to update the skill) that makes it worthless. The fix would be just to make it an aoe cone attk like the druid version of it. Every one in it will be blinded and take dmg.
Earth 5 could use an update too. It realty needs to be faster. As well as earth 1 something that should be aoe for 3 targets with a aoe projectile effect too.
Now that they seem to be done with there rule of finniser / fields on the same atument they need to look into making an earth field for ele class and maybe ele only. Bleed projectile, crippler wherle, protection blast, and root leap.
Fire 3 should have some other effect to it. Maybe a if the target is lower hp add more burns making it a good ending tool. (just off the top of my head it needs to do more burning or more dmg or some type of supported effect).
Tbh I have no idea what they should or shouldn’t change. My comment on air was just some niche ways to use it if your desperate to live due to a kittened up rotation.
But sure alot of the changes you suggest sound like they would be cool live!

The build you have will most likely suffice for dungeons and low~mid level fractals. However, to be quite honest, there will most likely be a fairly large dmg gap between your build and a proper meta viper build. Condi ele, like most condi classes/specs, are really more hybrid builds than true condi builds- in other words, while condi dmg will be the major source of dps, the physical power dmg will also play a relatively important role in determining your total outgoing dps. You get no precision from carrion gear, so your crit rate will be very low. Furthermore, by using balthazar runes instead of berserker runes, you automatically lose out on +5% condi and power dmg. IMO you are better off not taking signet of earth, as condi tempest is a strictly burn-only build. Use glyph of elemental power instead as it is one of the bread and butter utility skills of condi tempests. Also, while the earth treeline may give you a bit more survivability, it really doesn’t contribute much in terms of boosting your dps. If you’re looking for better dmg, then go with arcane, as the arcane precision trait allows you to inflict burns on crits, which will work very well with the burning precision trait in the fire tree which also lets you inflict burns on crits. With carrion gear, your crit will be so low that you will not be able to get much mileage out of these traits. If you want to do a bit of min maxing and end up taking arcane instead of earth, then definitely go with elemental surge trait and take arcane power instead of feel the burn. Taking flaming greatsword instead of rebound is another option you can consider if you want to boost your damage even more. Flaming greatsword #2 and 5 are pretty good burn based skills. Lastly, you should be using smoldering and bursting sigils on your weapons. You might also want to consider using rare veggie pizzas and toxic focusing crystals to add an additional 30% condi duration and 170 condi dmg (but they are expensive!).
im curious what is the interaction of glyph of power? i used to also like it for that burning proct, but i noticed it has an unknown ICD per enemy? i cant remember is it one burn stack or 3 per proct?
currently im using flame axe(2 burning aoes and flame aura with leap finisher(i think the leap burns)), signet of fire, and glyph of storms.
im also using s/w. rotation is basically fire 4, 5, 2, 3, 1, flame axe, fire OL, (still with axe), 4, 5, 2, 3, drop, 2, and 1 until i can restart rotation. I tend to use signet and glyph of storms during the lul, waiting for CD’s. i was getting around 15k burning. im also in terrrrible gear. just carrions and clerics. BUT lets not talk about stats, just curios mostly about glyph of power. you seem non toxic and knowledgable
tl:dr is glyph of power that potent? it felt underwhelming when i used to use it, felt like it rarely every proct’d burning.
thanks
Since this is a conjured weapon topic, I have a question: as a non-ele, when should I pick up a conjured weapon lying on the ground, and what should I do with it? I don’t know the answers to these questions and I don’t want to mess anything up so I always hesitate and leave it where it lies.
if its ice bow, pick it up and use skill 4 and drop.
if its FGS only pick up for mobility. it will likely negatively affect your build if your traits dont have synergy with conjure skills.
HOWEVER if you are familiar with conjure, and you know what skills you might want to use go ahead and pick it up! i think most of us that use conjure in open world dont mind. BUT if your just gonna pick it up with F cause its there….dont. alot of times i DONT take the trait for additional charges on conjure because i strategic place my conjure summon to grab during my rotation. personally the only fun/useful way to use conjures as an ele is to treat it like an engi kit. spawn it, rip thru skills, drop, do normal skill rotation(my build currently camps fire) once everything is on CD pick up conjure weapon, spam skills, drop, go thru normal skill rotation again. an ele can get alot more value out of an overload while wielding FGS or flame axe.
keep in mind this is how to get the best use of a non meta skill set. your best DPS will liekly to never touch any ele’s using conjures cause there weak(besides ib4). but thats no fun.
i think i wrote a really lengthy post on how to use every conjure a year ago or something…idk if your bored and want to search my history.
hope some of this helps! feel free to bump, hmu here, or in game!
AA on fgs if channeled will track a target. If you do it be thief pops invis it will track and reveal thief. Can close distance with skill 3 after revealed. Fgs has 2 attacks. Melee and range. On teq you can hit twice. Pretty nice cleave against illusions.
Just some tips for what you can do with fgs that I use in wvw small roaming, ganking thieves. Obvi I drop fgs once I have a thief on the ropes but fgs gives you an opportunity sometimes for free.
Buff is for PvP iirc. Make sure your in PvP not pve.
Sounds like fun!
I think my favorite thing about elementalist (and why I’m having trouble picking up other classes!) is just how versatile the toolkit is. And you don’t have to lock yourself into a one-size-fits-all build. You can (and should!) adapt your build to the situation.
I did my first solo legendary bandit executioner kill on my ele last night. I won’t rule out that some insanely good player out there could pull it off on a full glass ele, but I’m not that good. So I came up with a tanky build that gave me enough room to make a mistake here and there without getting 1-shot by her whirlwind or killed by the monster bleed + stun that follows it.
When I’m not trying to solo bosses that routinely wipe out groups of players, I use a much more offensive build. “Squishy” only applies to full glass. Ele can be whatever you want it to be. And that’s why it’s such a great class!
I concur! Really fun off meta build to try are the full glyph util bar and arcane traitline. It really allows you to have a large amount of stuff to play. Obviously it’s worse then just spamming skill 1 and 2 on fire staff but it’s pretty fun AOE weakness bombing and spamming prot. Between the glanced hits and the damage reduction on what lands you can pretty “tank” and still have fun with zerk fresh air. Obvi it depends on landing debuffs at the right time and not overlapping them :P. I’ve spammed weakness and blind at the same time too many times to count! Feels bad watching weakness expire and the mob was blind the whole time anyway lol
Oh shoot I think they just changed weakness to vuln on glyph of power. Might still be other fun stuff to do with a glyph build tho
Oh shoot bunji has a rly good point with glyph of storms. It’s exactly like warhorn Earth 5 so it gives you another big AOE blind if you need it. With all the bleeds in earth you could always camp earth on big mobs and just spam blind after blind. I do it alot when my gf and I duo dungeons. I’ll blind everything while she zerk staff. Then we both dps when adds are clear
Thanks for the tips! I had gotten lazy and was pretty much just going ham on mobs’ faces while dodging in a little triangle. Too much glass, not enough cannon. Taking some of these suggestions and making some changes of my own as well wrought an immediate improvement.
I just made a custom burn build for open world. Idk meta unfortunately but I’m assuming it’s also scepter warhorn? Specifically hoping you have off hand warhorn. You can 2 things without changing stats.
First is to acknowledge warhorn Earth is very tanky and OL earth is also tank plus does condi damage. It can help weed out vets n below while setting up pulsing protection for you to do a real doe rotation on the bigger guys. I use scepter main hand so usually I blind alot of foes with skill 3, then cast skill 5 correctly (it doesn’t show but it has the same exact mechanic as fire 5 wildfire). This is a pulsing blind. Any elites or below can not hurt you if you hit them and fight in the blind aoe. It’s basically an invuln. This gives time to cast prot earth 4 and if you have scepter cast skill 2. Earth OL should be ready and go ahead and OL for bleeds, soft cc and once it’s done it will pulse prot. Usually your earth 5 will stop pulsing half way thru earth OL so now damage should be coming in. With prot buff it’s pretty easy to burn the rest of the mobs or evade big hits from champs or elites left over. Don’t be afraid to go to water to heal. Glyphht heal is very powerful single heal and lowest CD. Not sure what meta currently says.
Other thing you can do is take trait lines fire EARTH tempest. There is a GM trait I believe earth x x 2 called written in stone. You can use that with signet heal and you have alot of sustain while being aggressive.
My condo build I made just to have a fresh build for LS3. I’m using budget gear. But it’s carrion armor n weap. Clerics acc and Ammy. And some random vipers or rpagers for the rest of my trinkets. A clerics ammy is all you would really need with the changed traits to get the most sustain without much change to your build.
Tldr master earth warhorn/OL to engage large mobs. If sustain is still an issue mess with a trait line by inserting earth
Hmm here or in game if you need help!
Getting your first Ascended Armor from raids is a pretty bad idea, because you need one to keep up with your team. Buying Ascended stuff with Magnetide Shards works well only if you really want to have an alt profession to raid with.
By the way to get full Ascended Set for druid or any other profession you would need 2300 shards which is 16 weeks of raiding (assuming you get 150 shards every week) and about 100 gold. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Scholar_Glenna
I am sure you could get your ascended set faster by farming hard wood logs and selling it. I earn about 150g weekly by doing this so it would take me about 6 weeks to have enough gold for an ascended set. Or maybe less than that.
I had quite an easy time with one asc dagger and full asc trinkets on my tempest. rest was exotic. got my first asc set thru raiding. i would highly recommend NOT getting asc armor for the sake of raiding alone. the boost to stats is soooo small compared to trinkets.
ive even used an exotic geared condi rev on VG with 1 pull/kill attempts. working on getting full vipers thru raiding for her. she is currently rampagers.
however, you have a really good point about having more efficient ways to get asc gear. raiding should be all about the experience of the content, then the loot IMO.
This feels like an attempt to just get youtube views. opened your link only to see your channel name. going to avoid your channel if it ever comes up

Cool ideas man! Very, very different. I think my only complaint if I saw this in game is taht some of my old gimmicky builds might go obsolete. but i think that these changes would offer alot of new fun stuff to do. especially on the DPS side.
That being said, I don’t pug raids.
A lot of people that refuse to adapt to what is needed. Or maybe just not that interested and we end up teaching someone different every week. There are many reasons and it never is the same one from week to week.
Honestly I’d kick anyone that refused to adapt to the meta. Sounds harsh but it’s not fair to 9 people to be dragged down by 1 person.
I used condi rev noo problem on vg last night. 1shot kill with my group. Meta is for people who don’t understand how craft builds. Kinda lame to blindly hate EVERYONE who doesn’t follow meta
I have been an arena net customer for 10 years my friend. Been here since the launch of gw1. Two years from now will be my 12th year, just to keep things in perspective.
Not sure what being an ArenaNet customer for 10 years has to do with GW2 and especially these forums (btw, since I actually did play GW1 from launch on I’m pretty sure it was released in April 2005, so that would make it 11 years, just sayin’), I just found that post of yours dating to July or August 2014 in which you state ‘i am new to GW2 also’, which makes it look like you arrived kinda late to the party.
I know WHY they are posting, I am saying it is in the wrong place.
How can it be the wrong place when there is no right place? Any place is as bad as the next.
Everyone seems to forget there business model is B2P.
Nope. It’s actually F2P (free to play) with microtransactions and a P2W (pay to win) option.
You would spend this same amount of money on Witcher, Fall Out, Pokemon, Legend of Zelda, Assasins Creed….
You have 0 say in the development in those titles. You have 0 interaction with those developers ever.
It might not be the best of ideas to compare it to games from completely different genres (especially not when it completely backfires, see the Witcher thing above, but w/e). GW2 is an MMO with a huge emphasize on competitive PvP (as established by ArenaNet themselves). So compare it to LoL, Dota2, etc. I don’t think I need to say anything about how ArenaNet compares to the developers of these titles in terms of interaction & communication with their player base…
IMO any communication is amazing and something to keep in perspective.
Yea well, if you like being treated like kitten that’s fine for me. But don’t demand from others to like being treated like kitten as well.
I personally have over 2000 hours in gw2. That is SO many for only spending 100 bucks(thats base and expansion put together).
So dumping a lot of hours for a few bucks into something makes it ok when everything goes down the drain later on? I can’t quite agree on that.
April is next month. So yes I have like 10.xxx years…someone complained about being here for 2-3 with playing this game. Anet still developed gw1 so I still have been familiar of anet regardless of when I bought gw2.
I said it’s the wrong place because you don’t post off topic comments in a forum thread. I’m not gonna go to ride aparts forum and start talking the about the ls1 block and swapping it into a hot rod.
Anet has never treated me like kitten. I just don’t act snobby and keep real life in perspective. #firstworldprobemsmyvideogamedevzignoreme
$100 isn’t even a week of time for a software developer. We get so much for so little.
And what are you a politician? Instead of saying anything constructive or truly on topic your just nitpicking at the OPs words. Everything I said was to inject either a different perspective or a suggestion for moving development suggestions out of this thread.
Yes you called me out on the witcher, I’ve only seen n played witcher 3 but guess what, if the game sucked I still don’t expect to hop online email a dev and hand them disc asking for a new patch for what I want. The context of my example was just namebrand one shot play buy games.
Hopefully this wasn’t too poorly organized. Did this on my phone bored at work
FYI – Gaile isn’t a profession developer. Don’t mean to target you directly but ALOT of responses on this thread HAVE suggestions in them. My topic doesn’t have the [suggestion] tag nor does the content of the topic seem like something a profession developer would click on. Something more along the lines of anyone on the social front for anet.
Not sure what posting suggestion after suggestion on this thread does but confuse anyone going through the comments :/
People are posting suggestions in this thread because they feel like this is the last straw they could possibly grasp as this is the one and only thread with a dev response within almost 15 kittening pages of threads full of suggestions and feedback (that all were conveniently ignored). Looks like you haven’t been around here for too long, so maybe get accomodated to this place before starting to critique its native inhabitants.
I think it is self-centered to be so rude to someone when they have to work likely more then 8 hours a day on development, and rob them of family/personal time to read our feedback. If I were them I would ignore a toxic community in a heartbeat, but anet employees seem to be up to taking our abuse for some silly reason.
Getting on the forums to gather feedback and interact with their PAYING CUSTOMERS is the very least these guys can do, it’s their kittening job. People getting annoyed for being ignored or getting bullkitten responses like Gaile’s in this very thread (1st quartely update was “marvelous”? rofl shut the f up already) for YEARS is just natural I’d say. Maybe you’ll realise this one day when in 2 years you’re looking back at this thread realizing it did exactly nothing despite Gaile’s shiny responses.

Use pvp meta auramancer traits. Knights armor, clerics trinkets. You can now tank and easily take care of front line healing wise. Can use a bad druid or zerk druid for other healer
This isn’t an ele topic
Hey this was enjoyable to read! Both of you guys seem to pop up often, and its good to see ele’s with some knowledge(though I am little puzzled about the lack of thinking ele can solo haha)
IMO i prefer knights armor and zerker trinkets in open world and it seems to be a breeze to wipe out anything. I have been playing ONLY d/d in open world with ele to give myself a challenge recently.
Staff is ez mode IMO. you can literally camp fire and if things get hard the amount of CC control on staff is unreal. Can’t access any OL because of the quick rotating during kite mode, but i still keep tempest there for when i get the chance to OL for the beautiful damage.
You can also just go full yolo tank with knights and clerics gear and just easy mode d/f everything to death with tempest. You can also rotate the two signet of elementals an almost perma upkeep a earth elemental too if you want something to face tank for you/rally you if you mess up.
It’s more with the fact I am trying to solo content that isn’t intended to be solo and I get mixed results with elementalists. It just could be my personal playstyle which favors a lot of mobility which makes Daredevil better suited.
Knights works well. I still like Soldier’s a little bit better, because there is a few mechanics in HoT that can build up some condi stacks and if I trade all my condi cleanse for DPS, I feel I do better against that.
But it’s just splitting hairs. You just need some survivability to survive the overtuned mobs in HoT, but not much.
Ah never recognized that fact about vitality. Very good point. I always tend to worry about power only damage outside of pvp
Also, it takes more effort to acquire, but marauder’s gear is better than combining zerker’s and soldier’s
This is a true statement. I just don’t harp on it much when people ask these type of questions, because it’s not very accessible.
Building a gear set out of Soldier’s and Zerker’s or any of the original stat prefixes is considerably easier than trying to build a set out of purely Marauders. It’s a better for a first character to do that, then work on a Marauder’s set slowly.
Maurader’s gives you a higher stat total per peice and the precision to power ratio is more balanced than Zerker’s. If you min max correctly, you get something like 4k extra health for marginal offensive stat loss when comparing full Zerker to Marauders.
I never knew marauders was a non pvp stat. I need to look over my notes but I’m pretty sure I made a mix set for my guardian that matches marauder. I’ll post it here after I double check my math.
This class with most weapon sets used to be more about fast decision making before HoT came out. Overloads have ruined the class for me, it would not matter how hard you buffed the current state of overloads, pressing a button just to watch a massive aoe go to town on your enemies for years on end is just not my idea of a good time.
It’s BORING, and it needs to change! While some people may like the idea of the current state of overloads I have a feeling most of my elementalist bretheren think its horse kitten. I find it really hard to believe people wanted the elementalist playstyle go from DDR level button pressing to a game of Roll your forehead across the keyboard until you hit the overload button.
Please speak up and let anet know they’ve made the class waaaaay too boring.
TL;DR. This aint about balance, this is about removing a boring mechanic and replacing it with something fun and interesting.
At first I want to disagree with you, then I got around to reading some of your suggestions.
So I still stick with that tempest is fine. BUT the suggestions you made are definitely cool DIFFERENT play styles that would make for nice, DIFFERENT elite spec.
I will keep this short
IMO tempest allows you to play rotations at the speed of core ele if you want, allowing you to keep up the counter play and other tools you always had accessible. BUT if you find yourself in a spot where your not rushed to hit that next skill, ie the mob is dying away, your not taking the heat of the incoming damage, you can make the decision to OL for that OL bonus, and understand that you probably won’t need to go back into that attunement b4 your allowed to.
You have to admit that pve d/w fresh air is way more fun dps then staff fire. Scrolling through your comments makes me seem this thread was originally aimed at pvp?
~thanks

More importanly, if they are using shouts, they have access to many auras. Each aura with healing power offers a decent amount of health back. I think its like 1.2k? You might be better off moving along, if your not with another teammate. You should have an opportunity to +1 somewhere. However if they are trying to take the point from you. its likely you can fight them forever on it since they do little to no damage.

I am convinced that the degree of toxicity and bitterness that has become rampant on the forums is largely due to the silence from your company and the feeling of not being listened to is making everyone is who trying to help make this a better game feel resentful.
There is NEVER an excuse for toxicity. If you don’t feel the developers are doing things you agree with
A) Be constructive publicly
or
B) Stop buying their products, in an economy like ours dollars spent is how you vote.
If anet stops producing the same profits they will know what they are doing is wrong.
ESPECIALLY when replies socially is most likely something they can not charge hours too. I think it is self-centered to be so rude to someone when they have to work likely more then 8 hours a day on development, and rob them of family/personal time to read our feedback. If I were them I would ignore a toxic community in a heartbeat, but anet employees seem to be up to taking our abuse for some silly reason.
Overloads should have been a F5 skill with an independent cooldown from the attunement swap. Then it could have been made stronger with a longer cooldown. There is just no way to balance it when the cooldown is linked to the attunement swap.
One of the main reason I stop playing elementalist and eventually the game was because Tempest was (1) the only viable build (build variety was gone) and (2) it interfered with the combat rotation I had spent years to perfect and crippled the elementalist gameplay.
Warhorn should have given the elementalist extended range with a scepter, to make the scepter viable a long range single-target weapon in WvW. And also Warhorn development should have taken into account player feedback, because it turned out to be a really clunky and ineffective weapon to use for an expansion that wasn’t cheap at all.
The trait lines needed to be split in offensive-defensive-support branches instead of being all mostly support and defensive.
Then when Anet nerfed cantrip might for daggers they removed the viability of the fire line for staff users reducing again build variety to the bare minimum.
And I’m not talking here about the stability changes that had disastrous consequences on WvW. I often lost my 8 stacks of Stability from Armor of earth in under 1 seconds after that changes! Why would you do something like this just for PvP when it ruins other game modes?
But then we can go back in time and think about when it was possible to move around Eternal Battleground with Ride the Lightning without having to wait near 1 minute every time we used it, or how we could keep on casting healing, utility and elite skills while in mist form. When that last one was removed it took a year for Anet to realize the elementalist needed more survivability. However a number change will never be as interesting as being able to cast a skill while in mist form.
So overall it’s a series of very-small bad decisions taken without consideration for certain game modes or user feedback that brought us where we are today: where almost every topic in the Ele forum is addressing problems and issues with gameplay, skill-balance, useless skills, weapons or traits and the lack of build variety.
I don’t know how things got there, because 2 years ago Anet was really on the right track.
Perhaps it was the Chinese release and free2play business model that derailed the game from it’s initially intended goals.I would gladly come back if all these little changes were reverted.

Hi Roman,
I can see that you are asking this question with sincerity and good intent, and I’m happy to share a few thoughts on suggestions and how they work on the forums.
Thank you for the response! I have learned recently that putting [suggestion] is a huge help for devs when scanning and I def will try to back peddle through a couple of pages to see if anything I want to talk about is already a current thread, I don’t know why I didn’t think of that >.<
I def did not expect a dev response on this, so thank you again. Only because you are part of the communications I’d like to make one quick small suggestion that I thought of a long time ago. I’m sorry your bombarded with every suggestion since people saw you replied >.<
Content creators have a thing called Patreon, its a way to support the content creators with little to no reward for donators. Would arena-net ever consider something similar, for people interested in having some more weight to their suggestion as the one and only bonus? Beta for HoT was a great time for me, I loved reading dev changes, reading and critiquing other players suggestions, posting suggestions, and then player testing the changes themselves in during a beta weekend event! I honestly wouldnt mind paying you guys to essentially “prove” that my only interest is the betterment of community and game. I can def see ALOT of cons with this, but always meant to throw it in there at some point.
Oh and the AMA was amazing, good luck with the changes in the office!
ps – heard you were in LA recently sorry i missed it! was busy in gw1 haha
I successfully ran a tank ele in raids last night. Was only for vg and shout out to Vanella Thunder from att for most of the idea trait wise for the build.
Stats
Exotic knights armor
Asc clerics trinket
D/w
Water – 2 3 2
Earth – 3 3 3?(grandmaster is kinda useless maybe 2)
Tempest – 3 2 3
Yes this is similar to pvp meta auramancer.
Dagger was soldiers exotic and warhorn was assasin exotic, made it on a budget.
Util skills – wash the pain away fire shout, blink(or signet of earth), ice shout, rebound or fgs
How to play.
I try to start in air, use the aura on dagger for prot or save when lower on endurance to get vigor to everyone plus 1.2k heal. Ol air immediate swap attunement after ol is don’t. I usually go fire and ol fire and use skill 4 party might and skill 5. Sometimes I will wait to use burning speed to do it in the arena wall in phase 1 when blues pop up instead of Dodge rolling. Burning speed has evade frames and does good damage with burst. Your number one job is keeping protection on your front line and swapping to water or using wash the pain away if they get low. Do not do both, you will just be over healing. Obvi choose wash the pain away over swapping attunement since it will lower your DPS. You have decent crit chance from knights armor and herald fury.
Yes this build means you take huge pressure off of healer in regards to the front line. Be ready tobuse rebound if it looks like your group is gonna mess up green circle and fyibif you full heal everyone before it pops good chance you not wipe melee group.
Only reason I suggest earth signet is because it allows you tobgetvuse out of earth grandmaster and if your quickbon your feet it gives you an immob for incoming seekers. I’d suggest blink tho because you don’t have much speed sobit helps if you teleported if you mess up or getting to the right pie for attunement during split phase part.
Wrote this with my phone so I’ll edit it when I get home later
Yes its unranked, but we were at a dissadvantage entire match. I have a normal mouse nothing too fancy, considered getting a better one with more keys but can’t atm..
I used playstv app from raptr, initialy i wanted to upload a video there, but after 24hours of video processing, another upload which again did not work i simply uploaded to youtube and video was available within 30mins.
Though playstv app does a good job of preping the vid for upload :P
Also i used to use dagger/focus-warhorn but i use staff atm because it brings more CC to the table an AoE heals which are slightly better for my style of play. Though the lack of damage is noticable…
its fine thats its unranked lol.
fyi a dev mentioned in a guild chat stream once that he and other players will assign buttons as a 2 button activation. for instance my heal skill is shift + 1 and my elite is shift + 5. i use a 10$ usb logitech keyboard and mouse. i also use anets ICM now, and I put my dodge roll on my scroll wheel click. try it out, after a few hours practicing you feel you will have much more control of your avatar
also for f5(i hav eno issue reaching f1-f4) i use shift + f
Here is a clear case of Anet over-thinking things that are obvious.
If they can’t even see the logic of putting a brand new player BELOW the average MMR, then I’m not sure why I’m commenting…it’s probably pointless to use common sense and rational thought processes in this discussion.
Almost NOBODY new to PvP will be even an average player. Not only do they have to learn their character’s abilities and synergies…they have to learn all the strategies related to capture the flag and the different maps.
If this were a simple game like Checkers, then MAYBE you could get away with that lazy argument of new players being average. Otherwise…To say that new players “belong” in the average pool is just insulting your own game’s complexity and/or embarrassing the logic of your decisions.
Forget about logic…from a financial standpoint, what is more likely to make someone quit the game?
a) A new player getting steam rolled and feeling useless to his team while being matched with much more experienced players who are also miserable?….or
b) An outlier new player with excellent skill still having to prove themselves with a little slower progression?
Most other games force you to level a character before even competing with experienced players in PvP. It’s great that GW2 doesn’t make you do that. However, denying that there is any learning curve justifying a lower than average MMR for new player is sheer folly.
This isn’t the world’s first mmo. I gave my StarCraft pro friend a basic Mesmer build I theory crafted and he did just fine on his f2p account in pvp. There is alot of synergy with traits thru pve exposure.
Conquest == cod domination. This game mode is not an anet invention. Very easy to have prior experience to this game mode to be on par with an avg player.
Lastly this dev is a developer, who I doubt is making a single extra cent reading this forum and posting to it. If I were to make a guess this is someone who genuinely wants to give you and me the best exp possible. Show some respect to someone going out of their way.
Unranked? Also I thought the aura build is D/f.
BTW you should consider swapping attunement with the keys at the least. And practice in general not clicking skills it has a huge pay off:)
What do you use to record BTW?
Ruby* and his not using fresh air…
I may hit you up in game dahir! If you wouldn’t mind sharing, I ve never put the effort into a condi build. Be neat to see one
I ve never had this issue unfortunately. Try to verify if your only losing the animation or the full skill. If it’s just the animation it’s likely to be an issue on your machine? Gl idk if you will find this to be a common issue
Laraley, you’re confusing viable with optimal
I’m not confusing anything. If I win some games with turret engi, does it mean it’s viable? Of course not. No one ever said that you can’t make a build work in certain enviroment. Viable = being able to be competitive on some decent level. Optimal = the best you can play. I think you’re the one confusing stuff. If viable in your opinion means to be able to get to Sapphire with some build, we can call everything viable. Don’t forget there were warriors getting to legend last season and that class was far from viable.
So if he gets to Sapphire which FYI is not just a FEW games. Then yes it is viable. His clearly contributing in a proper manner to his team’s other wise he would never get out of emerald. And I hope we can matched sometime so you can what a fresh air ele can do IMO it’s best counter to reaper meta
I appreciate your well written response, and was not completely aware of everything you mentioned. I have taken it into consideration, but start I just want to say I am not really interested in what Anet has done wrong.
yes I see that Anet from a lot of players persepectives has been ‘the devil’ and agree about what you said about the massive feedback threads during BWE times. I only remember seeing that on ele threads tbh, reaper and rev had stand alone feedbacks with a form to fill out. I believe it was asked to put [feedback bwe2] or something in your title. and a lot of the adjustments made during HoT was addressed by feedback. The dev’s themselves even posted it on the official forums.
But if you need proof CDI is a sup topic. stands for collaborative development something. It had/has high-vis with devs, you can stroll through those threads and see, but you can’t post since none of the threads are active at the time and I believe only dev’s can make threads.
I guess I should edit my original post and explain I am looking for any launch type forms for recommended suggestions or success stories from others. I am starting to think posting this in the ele thread was silly. It is more of a general thing(altho I only plan to make suggestions for ele).
Anyway tldr – there is a lot of proof as of late dev’s do listen. I don’t care for majority of past experience or even current things Anet does wrong.
Thanks,
~Roman
I know of at least 3 builds that work. Fresh air. Auramancer. I have a home cooked variance that uses fresh air. I’m not too far from sapphire
Well that’s wrong. CDI is an example as was bwe. Please try constructive comments
I remember during bwex so much communication with devs. Anyone here have success with getting suggestions noticed by devs or know what kind of format they prefer? I’d love to provide constructive feedback but it’s disheartening to put time and effort into posts not sure if it even gets to the right people.
It is all fine and dandy but I like to hear your stories about when a Necro and Thief sits you during a whole match.
Even a max condi cleans Ele does not.have enough condi cleans/healing power to recover against Necro condi burst and loading a Necro with burning is not a good idea anyway.
To make the things more fun when a thief opens on you when you are %50 HP.
I remember the days before the buff to celestial how Phantaram cried from frustration from this combo.
Only the removal of Cele can be managed but buffing Thief and Necro is death sentence for Ele, for the PVP ing I did for last 3 weeks I saw so few Ele and they were not relevant for the outcome of a match.
Timing your condi cleanses and pondering when it’s worth to cleanse over just withstanding it with current applied regen is the key… can effectively solo a necro with my ele … getting better at it every day… … kinda have to see the battle as a boss battle with 3 stages …. 1st: deal as much damage as you can until he goes in reaper mode … …2: in reaper mode he is resistant to hard cc … so, best way is to soft cc (blinds, slows, weakness) and kite until srhoud wears of… stage 3: as soon as he leaves shroud …use your cc chains…and spike … don’t let it recover or you’ll have to go back to stage 2.
Edit: Thieves are the easiest classes to beat with power ele as they are so squishy…. just don’t try to outsustain their damage… you probably won’t unless you’ve got stoneheart.
Loved the description! Very well explained. Could I bother you to elaborate on downing thieves? There the only class I’m still struggling against. Current solution is stone heart and fiery GS but fgs has a beefy CD and it’s supposed to be my mobility for finishing or just moving around quick of I need it
Ele has more then one weapon fyi
Yo, are you a high ranked in pvped? I’d like to share a build with a skilled ele and get feedback. But I want to keep it off metabattle
maybe taimi gets really mature with her time in rata novus. I could see her being a shot caller idk why.
i dont think rangers are meant for sustained melee ranged, and cant you just use GS for that? (serious question havent experimented much on ranger)
Devs have said Rangers are meant for sustained damage. Our weapon skills were made for sustained damage, minus Maul on GS, the only burst-type the class has.
Unrelated Reply: My math was off in my calculation above because I thought Pounce (1c) on sword was a ½s cast time, but it’s ¾s. That said, Super Speed adjusted to ¾s attached to it while moving forward covers the same distance as the current Pounce (430).
So, with Super Speed attached to both 1b & 1c, the chase-down ability/range only ends up being a 10% reduction on a full chain, or 24% reduction for Kick (1b – 300 to 230). Not a bad trade-off for all pros mentioned above.
I said MELEE range, they can have sustained DPS. which they should. I just argued for the range of that should not be within 200units.
You look like the only sane person on this forum. *How can anyone defend an auto attack that animation lock you on a class (in a game) that is all about fast paced maneuvering?
I detest ignorant people who refuse to look farther then their established perspective of things.
Your literally being close minded.
i love the AA sticking auto matically. I just equip off hand dagger for forced dodge when i want it. or the dodge already on sword(skill 3). also those dodges dont use endurance so you can get a 10% damage buff from that AND my build needs me to dip into %50 health for 2 traits to trigger. then i use signet of stone heal, and run away when my health dips a lil low again

Message me in game, 600hrs on ele. Love to help you figure out a style good for you
Hmu anytime I love mentoring new players
You still get xp from kills even if it isn’t your own story HOWEVER pick the same order and I think it’s lvl 30 and up will be able to do story instances together.
For new players, You may take half a year to create your raid characters.
If your a new player, raids should be on the back burner! It is for top-end level progression. It should take alot of knowledge of the game to succeed.
IMO I think the best way to play a profession is to under EVERY trait, and weapon skill available. On my ele I will run zerk, clerics, or knights. With those 3 stat sets I can easily combine run a multitude of different builds(i am at 7 now). I will always manipulate util skills or trait selection based on the situation. You should learn to have your own way to play every possibly build. I won’t make this too long, but i can do full glass and full tank on my ele. I prefer to use my reaper or rev for condi. Also for 10 randoms to coordinate well, they will HAVE to use some sort of base system, since communciation will not be as effective. IF you want to be play raids with any build you want, you need to work with close friends. That way you can make a custom strategy for your team.
It is alot of work to figure out how to beat a raid, if you just wanna hit LFG and join and want success, then yes you are at the mercy of using what other players have decided will work. If you want to do it your way, gather a squad and make new ways to beat it through trial and error!
