Why would I be angry? I’m just a little tired of everybody that doesn’t know how to play against one class blaming that class for being overpowered when they don’t play the class, don’t read about the class and then see one or two fights in some video of a big number on screen and scream over powered and nerf, nerf, nerf. You can sit here and whine about them or go learn how to deal with them, which would take all of a few minutes to figure out how to deal with them. Backstab Thieves are very easy to kill, I should know, I run a Wild Bill Thief and I took on two Backstab thieves at once, and beat them both because I’m not a squishy flavor of the month build. It’s just easier for people like you to whine and cry rather than get better at the game until this game turns into World of Warcraft where everybody does the same dps, everybody can tank and everybody can heal (even the Rogues can now heal as much as a Druid kitten .
I play the game because it’s fun, not because I think this or that class is better than another. Certain classes are better at certain things and the Thief is good at 3 shotting bad players, okay at killing decent players and almost useless against players that know how to counter them. If Anet wants to nerf Backstab, I welcome it, it’s just going to give players something else to whine about until the game dies and people move on. /shrug

Just Curious about the CnD/Steal Combo.

I don’t see it as a bug, just as something that helps give a Backstab Thief the mobility and element of surprise they need to actually get to do some damage. Steal doesn’t interrupt the cast time of Cloak and Dagger when it goes off and Steal isn’t the only ability that works in this way. Steal also doesn’t make the Thief go into Stealth unless they put points into the trait to make it do so. Steal also only has 900 range unless they trait it to 1200 and unless the Thief takes at least a few points into Trickery to make Steal’s cooldown low enough to use more often, otherwise it’s at least a 45 second cooldown.

To make it any worse would make it even more of a gimmick and useless than it already is. Yes it does help a Backstab Thief get in his 2 or 3 big hits, assuming that he’s already gave up all his defense for pure offense already, but I don’t think they need to mess with it, unless they just want to change it to a permanent stealth like in World of Warcraft’s Rogues.

Or as a lot of people will suggest, learn to play against the Thief. You have extra character slots and you have the ability to go into The Mists at level 2, buy all the best gear and runes, and beat on NPCs and see how things work. Anet gives all of you the tools to figure out works best for YOU and how YOU will deal with another class. You can even fight the gd NPCs that represent a particular class. Go fight that stupid NPC Thief, she’s the hardest one to kill if you’re not paying attention, and she doesn’t even use daggers but pistols.
Anet isn’t about to change their game around the 0.001% of the whiners in the population and believe me it’s probably even less of a % than that, I was basing that on an old thread dealing with the same whining going on in World of Warcraft. Developers don’t listen to anything but their own data except in rare instances, and if their data shows that the Thief is doing more than what they wanted them to when they put them in the game, then they will change them. If not, then learn to play and move the kitten on. Argue and cry all you want to if it makes you feel better, but know that in the end they have your money, they don’t charge nor force you to play and they don’t care what you have to say.

Don't you dare touch Backstab

Wow, this argument is still going? Sigh, give a class some Stealth, even weak kitten Stealth and not World of Warcraft permanent Stealth, and people whine and cry it into nerf world. Does anybody playing this game PLAY the kitten game? Do you people read anything? Look up any information? How about watch videos? Maybe even make the class for yourself and figure out their weaknesses?

Thief has the lowest Health pool of any class in the game. If they go glass cannon for a nice big Backstab hit, they’ll have somewhere in the 12,500~13,500 health range. My Necromancer butt naked has a base of almost 17,000 health. This means, once the Thief makes an attempt at killing you in 3 seconds, you better be dead and gone or he WILL die. They are the ultimate in offense, the ultimate in skill usage and the ultimate killer of people who suck or have no cooldowns. If Backstab and glass cannons get nerfed then all you do is shift Thieves into another mode of killing you.

Believe me, you don’t want to start nerfing Glass Cannon Thieves. Why? Because if you change something like a main mechanic of the class, then they will gain something else somewhere else. Perhaps longer or more power Stealth, shorter cooldowns, longer poisons, actual stun locks, etc. Once you move Thieves away from damage, you start to put them into more of a “control” role and a Thief with a lot of control will kill you far far far more often than one that can simply 2 or 3 shot you, and will frustrate you even more, because then you will NOT be able to kill them at all. Look at World of Warcraft’s Rogues. They can take on half a team by themselves by controlling 4 or 5 people at once for long periods of time, and can Vanish and run away if things get too serious and do it all again 60 seconds later. I’d suck it up at this point and deal with the few big hits the glass cannon backstab thief can do right now, because for all that strength, they have a LOT of glaring weaknesses and once you get some practice in to deal with those weaknesses, you’ll win far more than you lose and only the really good thieves will beat you. That’s how I see it anyway.

Well I said it on another forum, but it’s the same thing here, there’s very little if any real reason to que up when we’re losing. The rewards are crap, the rewards you get from the badges is crap, and it’s not fun to get steamrolled in the middle of taking a camp and end up with a 3 silver repair bill. If you want money, karma and good loot, it’s much faster and easier to throw on a Karma Booster and go to Orr and run an event loop. In two days of doing this I’ve already bought all 6 pieces of the Exotic Rugged Set for my Thief. If I’d tried to save Karma by playing World vs World, I’d have to play it non stop for months on end to come close to even one piece of gear.

The problem beyond little incentive is the generation of players used to no challenge, no competition and the gimme gimme attitude from World of Warcraft. Blizzard hands everybody and their mother epics for pretty much logging in for the day at this point. If World vs World is going to survive outside of 2 or 3 decent servers, then you have to give the PvE generation a reason to want to que up and get gang banged by the zerg. I thought if you wanted people to get in there then make the rewards for taking those two or three centaur camps dramatically great. Like for example, taking a supply camp successfully (even knowing you’re going to lose it in the next 30 minutes anyway) would give you: 50,000 exp, 1 gold, 2000 Karma and 5 Badges of Honor. Once it’s under attack, if you defend it against the horde, you’d get a similar bonus. While it sounds extreme, these are the rewards PvE players expect if they’re going to beat their heads against a brick wall. They raid heroics over and over for weeks in World of Warcraft because they know at some point they can buy gear with Valor points, even if they can only kill two of ten bosses.

Increase the rewards for being out zergged and I bet you people will que, some will stay, and “maybe” some actual fun and attacks will be made with our own zergs. If they don’t want to do these things, then World vs World here will die the same way it’s died in every other MMO. The PvE players stop queing, the PvPers don’t have any battles to hold their interest, the fun ends, the maps die, then the servers die, and so on. I hope they figure out something, because at this rate, everybody is going to end up on Black Gate and Sea of Sorrows and that’s all there will be for good PvP servers left.
