… with some WvW breaks here and there.
Same problem, “Connection error(s) detected. Retrying…”
Necromancers are fine in PvE (and sPvP) but they do need just a little bit more balancing love in WvW scenarios.
I’ve played a lot of everything on my necromancer. She’s my main but I also have 4 other L80s that I play frequently. Of my hours played, 2/3rd are on my necro. The other third I’ve spent on my maxed elementalist, mesmer, guardian, and thief. My thief and D/D elementalist can tear up condition/scepter, axe, or D/D necromancers like none other. I actually get a little happy when I see a necromancer in WvW because I know they’ll be an easy kill.
As fun as it can be to see fountains of numbers via epidemic, sadly my other characters are much more useful and effective in WvW scenarios. Other than plague + chilling darkness, most of what a necromancer does in WvW is simply a parlor trick in comparison. Amusing but … I’d rather grab another character to get it done faster, better.
I assume that ANet mines, analyzes data from their games and now that the meta-game has settled, will give the necro the slight bit of WvW love it needs.
It would also be really spectacular to get some of these necromancer bugs out of the way.
But yeah, it’ll probably be a wait – so it might be a good idea to pick up another character to play in WvW in the meanwhile if it is stressing you out.
(Edited to clarify.)

I don’t know how and I don’t know why, but my WvW culling issue has been noticeably worse (a lot worse) since the patch:
Prior I’d start rendering maybe 75% of the enemy approaching at a medium distance.
Currently I only start to see them at at a very much shorter distance from my character and maybe 80-85% of them.
I don’t think this was intentional as prior warning is part of what the new culling protocol was supposed to address.
I am using a mid to high quality rig. It’s definitely not high or ultra, but it plays most games beautifully and used to handle everything quite well. I’m hearing a lot of complaints out there in the field, as well.
Just an FYI, Anet.— S.
Like I said on another thread: The nice thing about CD – not only is there WvW organization and VoIP infrastructure for the community, but there’s also plenty of PvE going on at the same time.
We know that WvW isn’t the most profitable way to play this game – I really appreciate being able to drop into LA and find that dungeon group I’m looking for at both prime time and odd hours. (I’m a East Coast NA player, myself.) I engage heavily in both the PvP(WvW) and PvE aspects of this game, so having a friendly server that is populated around the clock is wonderful.
This place is definitely more of a community than just a server. While we are competitive, we definitely aren’t unreasonably self-serious. This makes for extremely satisfying gameplay.
And the best thing? We are constantly evolving and improving!
For any and all who are interested: CD has scheduled black-out periods in an attempt to allow large guilds to transfer over.
Please feel free to PM me if you’re interested in CD. I would love to speak in detail about my experience with the Crystal Desert Community.

This is for new accounts.
Don’t forget, those who purchased previously had other opportunities: Beta access, Head-start access, digital items, the post-trial offer, event participation, etc. With each promotion there are different incentives.
As someone who has been supporting GW2 from the start, buys gems, active in telling friends, follows closely on status updates & even going out of my way to vote up the outstanding support from ArenaNet and their product (such as pushing for GOTY, etc)… this is a virtual slap to the face.
It’s things like this… the little things… that really make a customer feel like they got betrayed by the company they put their faith in.
“So what it’s just a hat” or “Yeah it’s just a virtual item that you probably wont use” – well guess what? So is EVERYTHING from the Gem Store that I’ve dumped more money into than a monthly subscription would yield. Does that mean I should pull my interest in virtual items?>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>From the website:
For a limited time, buy Guild Wars 2 and get a free upgrade to the Digital Deluxe Edition (a $20 value), which includes a host of in-game items along with the exclusive Wizards Hat.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>It’s called DIGITAL DELUXE EDITION – If its a different promotion then call it something else. I purchased DIGITAL DELUXE and it should include what comes with the DIGITAL DELUXE edition. Because my Digital Deluxe did not come with the Wizard kitten
Flip that coin around and give the hat to the customers as a bonus for being a member of the Digital Deluxe Edition and you will get praised and may even encourage customers to upgrade.
However get stingy on those there from the start and these little things WILL eventually add up, because who really knows what the next Digital Deluxe Edition will include?Whatever it is, this is the first step in the wrong direction from ArenaNet – no matter how petty it may seem, it always starts small… and gets bigger… I never pegged them as a company to do this kind of stuff, but as a consumer… it’s my guard coming up for a company I trusted.
Agree completely.
I put custom orders in for an item last night, (x2) 54s 10c each. I woke up this morning, saw that someone else had put in orders for a little more, so I put in (x2) 54s 40c each. Came back to just now to find that someone else had beat out my custom order, so I clicked to remove all bids on the four wanted items.
I should have received 2.17g back, in the pickup tab. There is currently nothing waiting for me.
No, there is absolutely nothing else in my pickup tab waiting to get picked up.
I’ve been on Crystal Desert since launch and I’ve never received these bonuses. That’s severely disappointing; I thought it was bugged for everyone.
Finally started at 3:49 Eastern. Overflow. But yes, very many people left because, well, some people have better things to do on the weekend than wait around for 45+ minutes for an event to start.
C’mon, you guys can do better than this.
Overflow, (normally Crystal Desert). 3:44 Eastern Time. No event.
This overflow has had nothing happen in it, yet. Time is 3:21 Eastern.
Also, take a look over at GuildWars2Guru.com and see if this works for you:

So, I’ve been playing GW2 on Windows 8 Release Preview for as long as the game has been out. I had no problems then. I realize that it’s a slightly different product than RTM, but not enough that the program wouldn’t play. Most of the “under the hood” stuff in Win8 is the same as Win7.
I think the problem might be something different and that the GW2 CS is not properly diagnosing this or simply being lazy in attempting to pinpoint the problem.
At the very least, they should have told you to attempt to run as admin + compatibility mode.

I have this problem on the ‘small’ interface still, 1600 × 1200.
I am confused as to why people seem to think that there is only one (or only a few) real proper ways to play an MMORPG.
I play for fun. Some people enjoy a sense of accomplishment. If I want to get 100% completion in dungeons, world exploration, then that’s the mountain I choose to climb – but that doesn’t mean that, if I dislike many aspects of a game but find one much more enjoyable than the others, it’s somehow “incorrect” for me to focus on it.
Why should the preference of other players dictate my own preferences?
So while taking into consideration how to correctly balance the game pace, economy, prestige (et al.) for players, attempting to dictate exactly how one is “supposed” to play is a little nonsensical.
Since, you know… game. Fun and stuff.
I have the DDE, did not consume the one time items, and would like what I paid for. Mistfire works fine, I get the banker and hero band, but not the others.
Waiting on my items. I got the standard “sent out Friday” reply from support, but do not have them and did not receive them on Friday or since.
DDE: [Incident: 120825-027665] since August 25th.
I just received an email from support (“CE/DDE Issue Resolved 09/27/2012”) and then closed the game, reopened, logged in and found the items I was missing in my in-game mail.
I truly hope that I never have to deal with GW2 customer support again.
Resolved.

I find the Commander Icon helpful in WvW. (PvE is a different conversation.) I don’t see why it should be character bound; it doesn’t seem like the best alternative for the purpose it serves. It’s not really about the character you’re playing at that moment that makes you a good commander; it’s the player behind it – their leadership, tactical, and organizing capabilities.
I also don’t quite understand why its tied to a gold purchase instead of an alternative currency that proves your actual merit. There are a lot of good Commanders out there, who maybe had help from their guild to get the icon, and then there are a lot of bad Commanders out there that purchased it via gem conversions, or maybe vice versa. The problem is, the icon itself doesn’t tell you what quality of Commander you’re dealing with.
Divorcing it from a gold purchase (which is much easier to obtain through PvE) and tying it to something that denotes WvW leadership quality would make the Commander icon more (1) merit indicative, (2) prestigious, and (3) desirable.
Maybe some insane amount of influence garnered from WvW? The game already tracks this for guild purposes, and when you’re grouped with other guildies, that influence is exponentially increased – so in that way, your guildies can actually help you get the title. This is just a half-baked idea I’m throwing out there as maybe a vein of thought to explore.
2 copper.
Some of the personal story stuff sounds a bit contrived.
The quest, event dialogues seem fine.
On the other hand – the random bits of dialogue you pick up while you’re running by NPCs are kind of awesome. I was idling in a tavern in Queensdale where one of the patrons starts speaking to the bartender about how his wife is pregnant again, and the dialogue there is hilarious. The stuff in LA is fun, too. There are small movie references sprinkled here and there.
The NPC bits outside of the personal story line seem like a deal of work went into them. Maybe they’re just much more fun to write.
Well I just got a somewhat patronizing response from support. Is it really all that hard for them to believe that some of us just didn’t get any items as part of that “mass distribution” that happened on Friday? That the error is somewhere in the system or on their end, not always at the end-user?
Wow, that was rude.
I’ve had a ticket open since August 25th. This is ridiculous.
Honestly, when I paid the extra 20 USD for the Digital Deluxe version, it wasn’t because I thought the extras that came with it were worth 20 dollars. I would have at most paid 5.00 for those things. I did it because I wanted to support the ANet team with some additional release capital.
Just… wow.
I can endure the large number of in-game bugs that we’ve experienced. But customer service is really beginning to put a rather bad taste in my mouth for what otherwise is a pretty great game experience.
Yes, support: I DO know what a consumable is. If you actually took the time to check my glory/influence record, you’ll see that, since headstart, I never consumed any of the items that were supposed to come with the DDE.
Wow.

Not fixed. DDE.
Still waiting to receive Rytlock, Tome of Influence, Chalice of Glory.
Each of my characters creates with the HoM stone in inventory, and a piece of mail with the hero band and golem banker.
Ticket number: 120825-027665.
Opened August 25th.
I think you’re right, since the Extended potions crafting materials are more expensive/higher quality than those of the Powerful potions.
I think you must be right, since the ingredients required to make the Extended potions are more expensive than the Powerful potions. I also find it very very confusing.

I played a thief all through BWEs and got her pretty high leveled. I’ve tried many of the other classes (albeit in beta). Now, I have been playing Necromancer since Headstart. She is my primary and I absolutely adore the class. (The DS mechanic, if you spec it right, is just amazing!) She’s much more versatile than my thief was and I can do just about anything and adapt to different playstyles on a whim – it just takes a little creativity. I find her much more powerful and enjoyable to play than my elementalist, ranger, or guardian.
That’s not to say that balancing should not or does not need to occur. However, I do think that Necromancer is very far from being “broken.” Let the meta game settle, then see where we stand. In just about every released MMORPG, Warriors come out strong in the beginning. Why? Typically the warrior/fighter is your most straightforward class.
(cough IWAY cough —- oh, memories!)
Anyways, you should remember that this is ANet. Did you play the first GW? Do you remember just how painstakingly hard they monitored the metagame and just how frequently, for years, they would re-balance skills? It was amazing how much thought, work, and care these guys put into the game.
They’ll do it again. (And likely better, given how many more resources they have this time around.) Relax, I think we’re in good hands here. — S.

Same problem: Total computer lock-up, with sound loops.
This only started happening about 3 days ago. Was otherwise working perfectly since release.
System info:
Windows 8 Release Preview (64 – bit)
4.00 GB RAM
Intel Core2 Quad Q9550
Nvidia 790i SLI ULTRA
Nvidia 9800GTX+ (x2, but SLI has been disabled for GW2 play)
DxDiag comes back clean. I have no Arena.log file since it locks up the computer.
All DirectX versions on this computer are up-to-date.
I have tried every single driver, back from 302 to 306.23.
Temperatures are fine. Nothing is OC’d.
Verified game files – no problems there.
No other games crash my computer. I can be standing absolutely still on a fairly low populated map and it will go down. Happens within 15 – 30 mins of playing the game.
Again, this is a new problem. Started maybe 3 days ago. No other changes have been made to the computer.

Small thing, obviously, and there are other much more pressing things on your plate, but when things slow down: Dhuum bannings in GW1 were awesome. That or something similar in GW2 would be great!
A troll/scammer is something everybody in the community hates, so watching their soul be claimed by the former God of Death was something we could all enjoy. Given that we’re seeing gold sellers (especially from hacked accounts) all over the place, we could really use the laugh.
Thanks for all the hard work!
— S.
There’s a lot of rampant speculation going on here, heh. I have no doubt that the ANet team wants players who were hacked to get back in the game as soon as possible and are working hard to that end. It’s not in their best interest to work on the opposite goal; people who can’t play don’t contribute to the game nor buy gems.
While the malfeasance lies at the feet of the hackers, perhaps some reasonably anticipated, stronger security measures would have prevented the hacked accounts and will do so in the future. I’m sure the team is working hard to getting the victims’ accounts back to them despite the efforts of these hackers. In fact, I bet the staff is probably making some mad overtime for all the hard work and time they’re putting in. Perhaps you haven’t noticed that over this past week or so, changes have been made at all hours of the day, with back-end builds being pushed through at midnight Pacific time. Those are certainly not working hours I’d ever care to keep.
As for banning for EULA violations – here here, Anet! It’s time someone weeded out the cancerous idiots that poison the health of the community as a whole and leech the fun out of the game for others so they can troll or blatantly exploit. It’s amusing to hear these folks whine though, it’s pretty easy – don’t be an idiot, you won’t get banned.
Don’t like the EULA? We’re adults here – don’t choose to enter into the agreement. Nobody’s forcing anyone to play this game. Renege on your end? ANet is fully justified in engaging the remedies available to them to rectify your failure.
The ability to appeal a ban is actually rather generous on their end, and very very commendable – they’re taking on a significant workload they’re not required to, in addition to everything else. I can’t think of too many other software companies who would do such a thing, especially during crunch weeks.
