BP’s tenacity last night on our Bay was impressive. Your push was methodical, big, and patient. I assume you wiped on the first time getting inner down because you blinked first and ran into our grinder. Good fun guys.

Props to [LOOT] and [POV] for keeping the D together.

We’ve been working our butts off for our score. A few of our commanders have been pulling all nighters helping to keep our BL red. You can trash talk us about our ‘zerg’ (because 60 people in comms with multiple coordinating commander squads is a total zerg) and numbers but we all know how hard we’re working for our score.

It’s been a lot of fun, btw.

ehh yes even though your eyes cant see it it feels smoother 35-40 would be ok

This isn’t even close to accurate. 30fps is NTSC television frame rate (well, more accurately 29.97 frames) so I think that’s where people got this idea that it is “the fastest the eye can notice.” It’s completely false.

Fighter pilots have been tested with the ability to notice images flashed for 1/220 of a second. This means the human eye can distinguish difference up to 220fps. Most of us can’t do this, but we can still see difference well above 30, or even 40. Keep in mind that a large segment of the population, myself included, can’t use a CRT monitor set to 60Hz because the flicker drives us nuts.

In gaming context, more motion means you need more frames. If you are standing around at the bank in LA, 18fps is probably adequate. In WvW, 18fps is going to look like a slide show.

OP upscaling - lvl21 thief vs lvl80s (vid)

Hooray for 90% of replies completely missing the point of the OP.

The point is this:

You can twink a level 2 harder than a level 60 and that doesn’t seem to make sense. It had nothing to do with him killing 80’s that were nooblords.

Omega siege rushes. Ruining wvw

Yaks player here.

Maybe Omega’s need a retune, I dunno. There’s a good chance that there are counters you just haven’t found yet. Most of the golem rushes I’ve been in have been successful because they were hitting soft targets. Our scouts will find a keep or tower that has almost nobody in it, then we’ll get some golems and roll it while the opponents have their entire WvW population trying to hold SM. I’ve been in more than a few golem rushes that fall apart completely because the mez portals aren’t there or the mezes are inexperienced and don’t know what to do.

The OP seems to suggest that, in these cases, porting our Yes They Are Still Kind of Expensive golems back to our stronghold is cowardly, rather than leaving them in the field to get destroyed from range. Feeding your kill farming is not an obligation. It’s actually stupid.

I’ve noticed in particular this week that CD tends to have everyone in one place most of the time. While you were pushing our EBG stronghold from SM with a giant red horde, we had teams capping everything in sight in your BL. Strangely, most of our commanders seem to look at the score timer.

Why isn’t Kain here QQing about this? Maybe they are busy playing …

Long, drawn-out reply wherein I explain to a forum primarily comprised of non-IT and non-programming folks how I understand the ins and outs of a company’s closed-source code and IT infrastructure better than the people who built it based on speculation and guesswork.

Apparently all I needed to do was post something about this because within minutes of doing it, the patch completed.

This has been happening to me for the last month. I’ve tried a couple times a week for the last four weeks and the patcher sticks on 1 file remaining and the DL speed alternates between 0.00 k/s and 0.15 k/s. I have run with the -diag option and that hangs on “testing network paths.” Windows firewall is off.

When I run with the -log option the patcher hangs in the same place but no log file is ever generated. I can leave the patcher running for 12 hours and it just hangs, I never get a failed message at all.

Interestingly, a new game patch was pushed between when this started happening and now. The patcher downloaded and installed what I presume was the new patch data, then proceeded to hang again on 1 file remaining.

I ran it with the -repair option and after verifying all the files, the same thing happens.

I’d love to post some log data but, as I said, a log file is generated but it is empty.

Staff and shield could use a change, very limited weapon options.

Staff in WvW is amazing. Your 5 wall is ridiculously useful and most people don’t even see it. Combine that with a reflection wall on a choke point and you’ve just locked the enemy into a narrow field of AoE and siege obliteration. Drop 5 in front of fleeing enemies and watch how many times they fall down before they try running around it. Toss up a reflection wall, drop 5 and then your GtAoE speed buff (3) to help you and your team regroup after a route (or get through the tower portal!).

The staff #4 is a good heal with a nice buff. And the autoattack, let’s be fair, isn’t “melee range,” it’s just short range. It’s damage is a little low but it hits everything. Heck, I use it in large PvE fights just to tag every mob. It’s a spammable cone with a short animation. What is not to like?

I admit soloing with staff is lackluster but it doesn’t seem to be designed as a solo weapon. I never solo with it but if I’m coming up on a group event I usually drop it in.

But yeah, shield seems lackluster. The 4 has too long a cooldown and 5 is … well, I’ve rarely had a situation where 5 was worth using, since it doesn’t block AoE or siege anymore.

Been raiding in That Other Game since vanilla. Love this game.

I was pretty excited about the idea of getting rid of the tank/healer/dps paradigm at first, but I’m starting to think removing it makes boss fights VERY difficult to design in an interesting way.

The lack of healers doesn’t matter as much in my thinking as the lack of a coherent threat mechanic. A lot of fun, challenging boss fights in Other Games have mechanics that require controlling the positioning of the boss. Aggro in this game seems to depend on many things, but it is functionally “random” in the middle of an encounter.

The bosses also don’t telegraph abilities very well at all. This could be because the spell effects are obscuring anything useful, but even solo trash mobs will suddenly knock me down with no indication that it is coming. This is unfortunate, because on the PvP side you can usually tell from an animation that you should dodge or interrupt. The only thing I usually see in a PvE boss fight is maybe a red circle on the ground, and sometimes the damage hits me as soon as the circle paints. I’m a Guardian with a lot of points in toughness and vit. No glass cannon, but a lot of boss strikes will one or two shot me with no indication if they are incoming. A more interesting mechanic would be “Boss telegraphs big hit” then I can avoid much or most of the damage by dodging or popping a block cooldown. I love the idea of “Guard” on my mace but honestly never know when to use it due to bad ability telegraphing in PvE. The reason this feels like World of Kitecraft sometimes is because frequently you have no idea WTF the boss will do and kiting is the only option. The fact that kiting is so successful on so many encounters is also kind of sad.

I’ll be honest. It feels like a lot of boss fights are just Zen. I’m flying down the trench in the Death Star waiting for The Force to tell me to hit my cooldown.

The world encounters have major scaling problems. This is fixable.

tl;dr

Bosses need some work. Scaling in world encounters need a lot of work. Seems like Anet is still trying to figure out how to write interesting PvE fights without tanks or a predictable threat mechanic.
