Seems to be some confusion about “siege hugging.”
Siege hugging: You are fighting someone in open field and are baiting your opponent back into cannon/ac/bally range of a tower or keep. Usage of the term by sane people is generally reserved for a roughly equal sized force that needs to fight in siege cover because they can’t beat you in the field. Everyone does it from time to time but everyone denies ever doing it. If an opponent is baiting you into siege, you should feel like a bad-kitten. If they could beat you without it, they would. Here’s an idea … don’t follow them into the ac fire. Go find another fight or take some of their stuff. Or, to prove you are even more of a bad-kitten, go destroy them in the middle of their own ac cover.
Not siege hugging: Using siege to defend a keep. That is what it is for. There is zero possibility of “two map queues with one AC per person” will ever happen because of siege capping. The siege cap is there to prevent what Anet considers to be an unfair amount of siege. Don’t like the siege cap? Think it should be lower? Go complain to Anet. People have been crying that song for years but, maybe if you cry louder it’ll work this time. I am under zero obligation to make my keep, tower, or camp easy for your k-trainers to flip.
You can complain about game design elements but complaining about players playing the game as designed just makes you sound like a whiny brat. Sadly, this game is full to the brim with those.
What looks like chaos is actually … not as chaotic as it looks. Find a guild video that hopefully has comms routed into the mix so you can hear what the commander is saying. Once you get a sense of how things flow and how a ZvZ fight actually goes you will have a lot more fun. Of course, the only way for this to happen is to PLAY.
The most fun fights for me aren’t blob vs blob (which is how a lot of T1 fights go), it’s in the 10v10 – 20v20 range.

We’d like a little bit if lead time, if possible, so we can reach out to other server commanders and try to at least semi-coordinate maps and comms before everyone queues up for maps.
Will the pairings be announced with any lead time, or will we find out when we show up on the maps?
I understand the desire to keep it secret to prevent last minute server transfers and stacking, but some kind of advanced notice would be helpful for planning.

I’ve got a script that pulls /account and matches the “guilds” array against a valid list for Teamspeak access. My problem is that the list of valid guilds isn’t static and I need a way to determine the game ID for a given guild. I enumerated an initial list off an old registration table but with new guilds coming and going I need a way to gather this.
I’m not looking for anything other than the internal guild id that the API uses to identify a guild. I could ask my GLs to provide that but I’ll need to explain to them how to do that, and I .. don’t know.

I’m running a Ruby script I wrote that makes calls to the account and guid_details API elements. I’m doing it in series through a couple of loops … nothing fancy. I’m guessing it’s making maybe 5-10 calls per second, if that. I’m estimating 10% of my calls result in an empty string. Took me a couple hours to figure out it was empty and not nil.
Is this normal? Some kind of error return would be a lot more useful …
Right now it is basically obligatory to have GWEN classes. No problem at rangers becoming obligatory for meta too.
The title was meant to say “the thread is obligatory” not that Druids are, but you make a valid point.
The druid reveal is basically finished on Twitch and Dulfy has screen grabs of the abilities.

My thought is a druid will be nice in a melee ball going into druid-shroud for support. Also, predict boneheaded druids using that knockback and pushing targets right out of the bomb.
Healing wall looks like a nice addition to Wall of Reflection.
One reason a guild might run tagless is that they are using groups and builds that work together. Zergbusting on a larger group requires they don’t die, and don’t get rallies. If you are running partyless with no water fields and their comp is based on X number of water fields for Y number of players, you are much more likely to go down and give the other team rallies. Or you are running partyless and don’t have reliable stab and end up getting CC’d into oblivion.
That said, it’s an open map and you paid for the game too. If you can find the driver you can ghetto tag with with your target marker. Personally, I’d ask if they mind before you follow them. If they politely say “no” then you’ll probably have more fun elsewhere. Unless your idea of fun is trolling in which case … I don’t care.
If you have the means, buy a tag and just try it out doing havoc or something. Tell /t and /m what you are doing. Sure, you might end up with 20 people on your tag but if you tell people you are just flipping camps or something, you can freely ignore them when they spam /t and /m with all the ways you are doing it wrong.
A lot of servers have conventions for what the different tag colors mean. If you’ve got a whole-server website, find out what your server does, if anything then tag up to do something you are comfortable with.
My first time commanding was on EBG during reset. God, that was exhausting.
You’ll have a lot better time in the roaming department with an engi. If you build your necro for zerging, you’ll usually get eaten alive by a roamer. For zerging, a power wells build with staff is the way to go. Build out power with some survivability. You could do full zerker but I wouldn’t recommend it your first time out. If you’ve got the badges or gold, make a PVT set and a zerker set then find the point where you hit like a bus but don’t die needlessly (you will die a lot regardless because Wipes Do Happen).
Hell, you could probably get away with PVT on your armor and doing zerker trinkets. Then you can find the comfortable spot with your armor. I’m in about 3/4 zerker now with some knights and soldier mixed in. It works for me … any more zerker and I feel too glassy.
If you build out far enough into soul reaping to get death perception, your well ticks will get the +50% crit while you are in DS. So, drop your two damage wells and then pop into DS and watch the fun. Meanwhile you have two more AoE attacks in DS and your life blast is going to hit like a bus.
Use 1, 2, 3 on your staff while your wells are on cooldown and your life force recharges. Save 4 and 5 situationally. 4 is a great condi xfer that you should save for when you need it. Your condi cleanse heal is great but easily interrupted. You fear is likewise situational. Drop it on portals while while defenders are trying to run in. Drop it on enemies trying to stomp your friends.
Your second weapon main hand should probably be axe. It’s got an okay range, it hits hard, and it’s got a boon strip. Good for chasing down runners or for the rare times you’ll actually be doing anything single target. Some people run dagger offhand but I like focus for the vuln and the boon strip. That offhand is really a matter of choice and playstyle, either one is pretty good. Some people run warhorn but I don’t find it worth it. In this build you should be running with friends. If someone else can’t give you swiftness swap to the speed signet while you catch up.
Only two of your wells do damage, so your utilities should be Well, Well, ???, then plague or lich. In a power build Lich hits like the aforementioned bus and is also pretty much YOUR ONLY RELIABLE STABILITY. You can trait into short term stab when you enter death shroud but you have to give up 50% crit and that kitten ain’t worth it IMO. So again, Lich or Plague is really up to you and how you play. I tend to flop between them.
FWIW, this isn’t a roaming build but will work nicely in a small group for havoc. I’ve run havoc with a couple heavies and three power/well necros and you can clear a camp in about 3-5s.
I’m currently leveling an engi and have done some sPvP with it. I don’t have much experience with it yet but I can see a condi 3 kit engi being pretty good in a small group wvw setting.
Fair enough on the points of “PVE in a PVP Zone”. However, WvW already is largely a PvE Kharma Train with a fringe of PvP. Even worse is that WvW is becoming irrelevant in the lower tiers due to lack of interest.
This isn’t the case in all tiers. There is very little K-training in T2. As much as people like to complain about how EotM is just a “ktrain pve map” it’s removed a lot of that stuff from the other wvw maps.
Since YB moved up to T2 we’ve been having a blast. Feels like a very even game there right now. Note how I said “game” and not that other word that would get the thread locked?

Full soldiers on the armor/amulet is too tanky for me, but you probably have your own gear preference that you run with anyway. I’d avoid full glass though. Maybe Knights or a mix of Soldier and Zerker. So many rangers in wvw are running full glass now they just melt. One feedback and they nuke themselves. If you can do that and live reliably, good on you, but most of the glass rangers I run into just sit in Longbow the whole time and never swap. I unload my rapid fire on them then swap to gs, leap, and they are downed before they look up from their rapid fire cooldown timer. It’s also nice to see warriors expecting you to be glass and getting a nice surprise when you can take their hit and then dish out some pain in return with your GS.
QQing to the skies about this on the day it launches seems premature. The meta will need to adjust to the new mechanic, and it hasn’t yet. It might turn out that this really sucks, but I think it’s a bit early to puppy about it after just a few hours.
The point was to make it harder to flip towers and keeps, and it looks like it’s doing that.
What I don’t understand is why the T3 servers are tanking. Are the dumb and meaningless rewards really worth this farcical tankfest?
It’s to avoid having one server that just kitten’s everyone in the kittenhole for the entire tournament. Season 1 FA rolled over every match. Season 2 the free transfers turned HOD into a 24/7 steamroller. The only real contest in T3 has been for second place.
It would be interesting to see how a T3 server fares in Gold, but the majority of people I’ve talked to would rather have a mostly even match for a change.
This would also never happen because the server/client tech can’t handle it. The math for character collision is insane.
It was freaking fantastic in Warhammer instanced matches though.
Many of our commanders have friend lists filled with other commanders, when there’s a 911 on the home BL or whatever, they’ll spam a help message to everyone on the list. It’s more annoying that just sending someone to LA to spam in chat used to be but it basically works.

I play a power/well necro and feel plenty useful in WvW. A well timed Well of Darkness is the bane of hammer trains. Plague and spam 2 for AoE blinds on your commander (again, kitten off the hammer warriors). WoD and Plague-2 on top of siege you want to protect. Well of Corruption isn’t as instantly lovely as Null Field, but between that, axe/focus, and Chill of Death with a staff I can boon strip like a kitten.
Mine used to work about 50% of the time and now it’s more like 5%. Melee minions have become 100% useless. Figuring out a Rube Goldberg hack to get around the fact that they are obviously 100% bugged is not an acceptable solution.
I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the same situation can be seen in Silver league. In that case, you’d want to find a server that wants to avoid the HoD/FA matchup and can push another server into more matchups with HoD/FA by losing on purpose.
1st and 2nd place in silver were pre-determined by Anet, making the weird churn in the middle we’ve seen unavoidable. FA should have been in gold based on rating but couldn’t because of the whole mutliples-of-three thing they are holed into. Everyone saw the clusterkitten HOD is when the free xfers were announced. It was up in the air whether 1st would be HOD or FA, but when we saw HOD queuing every map for 20 hours straight in week 1 it was pretty much a given.
I imagine a Silver league without FA or free xfers would have been a blast. HOD was steadily increasing their ranking for months before Season 2 started. I’m sure they would have gained some good guilds for S02, but it wouldn’t have been the utter blobfest it is now. YB, SBI, HOD, IOJ, and NSP would have been some good fun fighting for the top 3 positions.
Instead, you’ve got this limp noodle thing going on where HOD wins every week. FA comes in second every week. YB and SBI rotate into that bottom slot of the matchup … every other week. SBI has a major grudge against YB but the two servers will never fight each other … UNLESS YB beats FA one week.
It’s dumb, but its what Anet apparently wanted. Either that or nobody in their office could forsee what free transfers would do even when pretty much … every player in the game could figure it out.
The statement about Glicko isn’t definitive with respect to final score. It states that rating will be the arbiter for the purpose of match seeds but doesn’t specifically mention what happens in league ties.
I’ve heard both that rating will be used as a tiebreaker and also that it won’t be, and none of these things has been from Anet. Does anyone know if Anet has stated definitively one way or the other (preferably with a link)?

Don’t know why anyone hasn’t borrowed the idea of offensive and defensive targeting though. That was awesome. You could bunker a flag with a tank+healer practically forever.
We can’t queue 4 maps 24/7 like HOD, but we have a lot of depth in our command bench. A lot of great commanders that always make playing fun.
I would like to see them add server chat so people could still coordinate things for WVW in PVE.
Yeah a lot of people are nervous about doing map calls in LA (or wherever) when the possibility exists that there are 20 people from the opposing server there. This would be an easy solution.

I just transferred off of HoD. However, I did some WvWing while on that server for the last couple days and listened to the folks in TS. They seem to bust their butts overnight to take the lead, but I can say that the commanders appear to be exhausted by the effort that they must put in during the night (midnight EST to 7am EST) to take the lead. It will be interesting to see if they can continue this effort. Conversely, is this just a herculean effort put in by HoD that will eventually run out of gas? Time will tell. It’s an interesting matchup to observe.
This is exactly what YB did in season 1 to take second. A couple of those commanders quit right after that and haven’t been seen since.

The only issue I see with stealth in WvW is the “I will stay stealthed and alive so I can rez the dead mesmer who will portal in our zerg” cheese. Spending 15 minutes with 8 other people playing whack a mole in SM is just dumb.
Likes:
1) The maps are huge. Yes. I think the maps are huge and the objectives are reasonably placed. The maps only feel small because of the way the WPs are designed. When a BL doesn’t have WPs in garri, bay, and hills, it is BIG. WPs should be maybe … I dunno. I like them but maybe harder to build. Like the LAST thing in a fully upgraded keep. Maybe the WP it’s own “line” in the upgrade path that only unlocks when everything is finished. At least to slow down the WP build rush.
2) Combat in the open field that isn’t blob vs blob. When you’ve got a bunch of people who are a single guild in comms fighting in OF, it’s fun as hell. People spread out a bit, flank and move around more. There’s a push/counter push that feels natural.
3) Siege. Yes. It’s fun. AC’s might be a little overboard on their power but the variety and situational uses people have come up with is cool. Sure a cata hitting a door from the inside of a keep is asinine but it’s pretty creative. It would also be less used if not for 1 below.
Dislikes:
1) Defending is dumb. Dumb in that it makes no sense. Attackers can devastate the wall with AoE but defenders can’t resonably return fire from the wall. I fail to see how a small lip of mortar and stone prevents some classes from raining return death down upon the masses below. This is why you need to build a cata on the other side of a door to slow down rams.
2) LOS targeting. People like to call this “zoom hacking” but it’s really just a problem with the way ACs are targeted. If they were treated as the indirect fire weapons they are in targeting, they wouldn’t even need a nerf. Someone would need to spot for them just like you need spotters for trebs. Which brings me to …
3) No forced respawn timer. “I am a mez who will just stay dead here until the thief who is perma-stealthed inside the keep can rez me then the two of us will capture this fully upgraded tower.” Or the, “I’m going to lay here dead so I can spot for that artilery.” 5 minutes seems fair. If you can’t rez yourself or get a friend, you get rezed at default spawn.
Glad to see the removal of the matchup forum has elevated the level of discussion in the forums.
Yak’s had outmanned buffs on reset night this week. First time I’ve EVER seen that happen.
We do fine (I’d say better than fine) whenever numbers are closer to even, but lately it’s just blob vs 15 most of the time.
One solution to the transfer problem is to make it fee based instead of gem based. Charging cash for a transfer will make it less attractive to do frequently.
Proud of my fellow Yaks for holding SoS Garri most of yesterday. The last fight when we finally lost it (at circa 10:30pm EST) was an epic three way.
This is easy to do. The gem cards probably have a code on them. Anet could sell codes through their online storefront that you could then send to a friend. The friend enters the code and the gems go into her account. Done.
No need to make gems tradeable at all.
I am finding the following helpful to fix the “camera gone nuts” issue:
Command+tab out of GW2.
Click on browser (or any other active application).
Command+tab back to GW2.Hope this helps others.
This would be a more acceptable kludge if the gamma still didn’t reset to 1.0 every time you tab out of the game and come back.
Remember that time you had like 5 guys in a tower with no siege and wiped a 50 man zerg all while not wearing armor or using weapons, just utility skills?
Those were good times.
I’m thinking it’s going to be an SBI/Maguuma fight. We’ve still got trolls dumping our supply and building trebs in useless places (no I don’t have a screenshot … yes it is happening … no I’m not blaming any ENTIRE SERVER POPULATION). Also, for some reason our BL is bugged again this week. I mean, we aren’t even red this week (which is really annoying the kitten out of me … we are so often red … I keep trying to kill blue yaks).
We were outnumbered on a couple maps most of the night and had a really low turnout. Them’s the breaks. Some good fights though. We learned some things about our builds and how to hopefully improve them. The best fights are the ones you learn from.
It was nice to see Mags sieging up with like 20 dudes in a tower to. Our little girl is growing up. Brings a tear to the eye, it does.

I am in SBI an after playing all week seems pretty clear YB will win this one,all thanks to there teaming up with EB to form obviously well coordinated attacks at the same time.SBI sittin in SMC to try an defend multiple times attacks from both other servers at same time,watching EB run past YB zerg untouched.pretty obvious YB an EB teamed up to take us down cause they knew they couldn’t do it alone.so congradulations to YB for there shallow victory,cause we all know in a fair fight without EB’s help you never would have bet us

The game is 1v1v1, and has ALWAYS BEEN. Every single game SBI has played has been vs two other servers just like every game every other server has played. Saying you are only losing because it isn’t 1v1 is like saying, “you are winning now but we would crush you at Tiddlywinks.”
Maybe you would (have you played Tiddlywinks? That puppy is hard!), but it doesn’t matter because WE ARENT PLAYING PUPPY TIDDLYWINKS.
We also aren’t playing a game without siege or strongholds (“Yaks can’t win anything fair they always use siege”). You want 1v1 combat with no rally, rescue or siege? Go play some Call of Duty bro. I hear the fish run away from you.
The only legitimately unfair thing anyone is doing is the griefing, and we’ve all established that certain puppy holes are doing that on both servers.
It’s likewise bull puppy to blast SBI as a “server that only knows how to blob” or complain about them “only running bunker builds.” The game design freaking encourages it.
I love WvW. It could be better, but it is pretty great right now. If the forum warrior crew hates it so much, maybe you should stick with Tiddlywinks.
The correct answer is “all of them” because the game is perfectly balanced.
Here’s a screen of a Yaks bend thief driving an omega golem with some suspicious guild claiming buffs outside bay, far away from any Yaks bend towers or keeps.
Now unfortunately I don’t have any video of the golem regenerating health, but that’s not saying someone else doesn’t.
As for your comment on regeneration, no. I make a lot of golems. Lots of lots. The server does too. What you saw as regeneration was me simply entering fresh golems before returning to the fray. The banged up golems are kept in keeps and garrisons for defense purposes. The golems at lower HP % are used for higher risk jobs or group golem rushes.
It’s true. He is almost never outside of a golem even in open field. He might have a problem. Or, significant scaring on his face.
SBI is so desperate they are sending spies to drain supply at our keeps, because they can’t get them back honestly. LOL.
and before people claim this is a lie, the guy was in our ts, and instantly name changed when called out. Got screenshots of the guy doing it over and over again.
