If there are no new BL maps, hacking fixes, and whole load of other stuff which we’ve been expecting for the last year+ then I am not interested.
I mean come on, after 2 years they give us coloured tags?! Nothing else we can take away from it yet!
“Coloured tags, that’ll keep them happy for another year” No it wont.
I mean, it’s nice that they’ve taken a suggestion on board, different colour tags is definitely something people have asked for, and it would be sort of nice.
But if this, and Golem mastery, constitutes the sum of all work since the release of EoTM….. are we really supposed to be impressed?
Obviously have to wait and see what else is announced, but I can already see Lordkrall posting about how generous and wise the developers are to have put up with the forum attitude, and to have still given us 3 new coloured tags!!!!11!! A 30 second Paint job which we should all be eternally grateful for.
Sounds like the ability to change commander tag colours is coming, what do you guys think?
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/feature-packs/
Thats what I think it is, but I also remember thinking some of the April Feature pack articles were going to be something different (from their titles) than what they actually turned out to be. It could be something about changing the team colors in pvp maps/tournaments (or maybe a new map that has 3 teams?).
Please give us a keyring…
You guys seriously think they’ll only give you commander tags and a new mastery?

The April feature-patch only had account-bound WXP for WvW……
I would love to be proven wrong, but there is a precedent for this.
Hope there’s some understanding in the office that different color commander badges, new siege mastery lines, and a glicko reset are not going to cut it.
If that’s the best you can do, don’t bother. Because that’s just going to kitten everyone off.

They also have a pic of the Golem mastery ability line (pic below) (subject to change probably).
Looks like max tier allows the golem operator to come out at least not downed when the golem is destroyed (possibly at full health?).

True, but this time they got 1 week entirely focussed on pvp/WvW. Can’t imagine it would stop after 4 different colors of tags and 1 new mastery. But hey, I’m an optimist. :p

I don’t see a single word there that is related to WvW, but somehow, someone got “colored commander tags” from it.
I don’t get it.
I wish there were more colors, and something better than the typical commander icon (like various avatars)
But I wouldn’t mind seeing these released as you gain ranks or released on the gem store.
If it’s going to be just colours and nothing else to do with how the tag works… are we supposed to be impressed? Grateful sure, but more like “oh thanks, finally” grateful.
I realy want a 2 weeks update for wvw. Just little things, not like living story. New trait, new commander colour, new siege, new rewards etc…
Just the WvW
R3200+
Unless the new tag colors come with the restrictions that people have been asking for, you know like, blue means all can see good for pugmander (red for all to see as well but use it to track enemy groups), yellow for only guild members can see, purple for only group members can see, then they will be pretty useless as before. If it’s just color changes then also you give people less reason to join a squad.

There’s still more things which will be unveiled within the next 3 weeks. Though I am expecting less than the bare minimum for WvW, I bet it’ll be mostly sPvP stuff.
But yes coloured commander is something we asked for and it’s taken just way too long.
How much longer are we to wait before they give us guild commander tags? Tag only visible to guild members.

Indeed, but there are times when I want to be able to read squad chat, but also know where the rest of the commanders are as well!
Colour your commander tag! Only 800 gems a colour! Make your tag account bound, only 2000 gems!

I don’t remember the last time a commander I followed used squad chat XD
I suppose it would be useful for commanders seeing the other colors and knowing who’s running them.

“The eye perceives six colors in the rainbow. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue and violet.”
So we get six new colors?
All alone in space and time.
There’s nothing here but whats here is mine.

That just means everyone will now have unicorn rainbow effects on their weapons.

Unfortunately, I think you’re 100% right.
Which – taken on it’s own – isn’t a bad thing. I’ve posted before about the need to benefit both parties – the players and ArenaNet – if we’re to see any improvements to the game. Otherwise, if they can’t make money off it, it’s not in their best interest to devote time and resources to add anything to the game; necessary evil and all that.
However – in the larger context and given the shabby treatment of the WvW community, the stonewalling, and neglect – adding a minor addition we’ve been asking for since launch and then expecting us to pay for it this late in the game would be a slap in the face.
Rather than listening to their in-house economist on ways to milk the WvW game mode, what they need is a good psychologist, sociologist, or even just a decent community relations person to point out to them where they’ve dropped the ball with respect to the WvW community and the necessity of mending some fences.
What I’d suggest is:
A) Give commanders the ability to change tag color for free. This satisfies the WvW players’ long-requested need and demonstrates a responsiveness on the part of ArenaNet. The players will be appreciative. Some will grumble about how long it’s taken (me included), but in the end we’ll be glad to see it finally implemented and ArenaNet will get some kudos for it.
B) Add the ability to change the icon itself as a gem store purchase. Those who want to run around the map with a moose icon (as was requested in another thread) can then spend the gold or the cash for it. ArenaNet benefits as a portion of the commander population rushes to purchase the new icons and non-commanders start purchashing commander tags just so they can change the icon.
Win-win.
Of course, that’s probably not how it will play out; assuming the “Command the rainbow” was even in reference to colored commander tags.
You guys seriously think they’ll only give you commander tags and a new mastery?
Given their history to date? Yep. That or equally ineffective additions which fail to address the underlying problems with WvW. I look forward to being proven wrong, I truly do. I’ve been pessimistic of late, but that’s in response to the stonewalling and neglect of WvW going on 2 years now.
Look at my post history and you’ll see I’m a huge fan of WvW who was very optimistic and supportive of ArenaNet for about the first year following launch. My attitude changed after they’ve repeatedly failed to make any substantive improvements to the core mechanics of the game mode in conjunction with their poor treatment of the community. So if the situation improves, I’ll be more than happy to return to championing ArenaNet. Until then, I’ll maintain a “Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.” approach.

Apparently ArenaNet offices sit near the event horizon of a black hole where time is greatly dilated and no information is able to escape to the world beyond.

If they’re smart, they’ll take this anecdote as confirmation of what I detailed above; give the colors for free, and make changing the icon’s shape a gem store purchase.
Heres my take on colored tags, its almost pointless. Why ? Pugs will follow a tag regardless of color, this is why so many drivers don’t tag up. Whats to stop a pug from following a green, yellow, red, orange, purple, whatever color tag because its not blue ? You ask nicely now if they could let you do your guild run and they still follow so all of a sudden color is suppose to be magical and stop this ? Sure it will help with coordination but those Commanders that avoided tagging up so they could do guild runs will still avoid tagging up so they don’t get the ranger uplevel army following them.
Not good enough, private guild/group tags and public tags are what is needed.

Here’s point – it’s not so the PUGs know who to follow .. couldn’t care less to be honest. It’s so that each dedicated WvW player will know which tag they elected to follow and not get confused by seeing 2 or 3 or more tags milling around.
Yes, I know that I can join a commander’s squad and thus stop seeing the other tags. But it would be useful to be able to see where the other tags are and be able to distinguish who is where. The colours will make that possible.
That’s my take.
(I have to know! In WvW, do Legendary NPCs drop Legendary loot?)

It’s not a panacea and I agree 100% with implementing private guild tags; make it an “Art of War” guild upgrade, even.
At this point, though, it’s less about the colored tags themselves and more the principle of the thing. Namely, it’s an opportunity for ArenaNet to demonstrate they actually give a kitten about WvW by giving us something we’ve been asking for since beta. A show of good faith, if you will.
Honestly, at this point, there may truly not be enough players left in WvW any longer for it to be worthwhile for multiple commanders to tag up on the same map; making multi-colored tags kind of pointless now. Another example of ArenaNet’s procrastination in their effort to make it “perfect” being counter-productive; a case of too-little-too-late.
However, it’s at least something and – if they continue with additional improvements above and beyond this simple change – then their show of good faith will have been worth it if it salvages their relationship with the WvW community. But there’s a long road ahead and colored commander tags will be but a first step along that road. Let’s hope they’re up to continuing the journey beyond just that first step.
Well, this feature pack business explains the lack of communication from ANet at least.
I was actually pleasantly surprised by the LS2 content thus far, so I’m really hoping that this patch is going to be all kinds of awesome. Given how long we’ve already waited with no updates etc I’m ok with waiting a little longer to see what they’ve been doing for so long, but it had better be worth the wait.
Don’t follow me, unless you enjoy being chased by angry men with sticks.

How dare you! The ranger uplevels are the core of every blob! BEARBOWS REJOICE AND UNITE UNDER THE DOUBLE RAINBOW!
What if they are talking about dyeing weapons? They did just add in a major wepon skin know for wepon dyes in GW1. Though that just a though the different commander tags would be nice.
Guild : OBEY (The Legacy) I call it Obay , TLC (WvW) , UNIV (other)
Server : FA

well if i can turn the fuel lines on my predator green instead of orange ill totally forgive anet for all their past transgressions and not give a kitten about commander tags or wvw any more and go pve to my hearts content with my green fuel lines

I also think private tags are more important, however colored tags would be of help to server organisation as a whole. Pointless it is not. That’s why we’ve asked for that and a change in the icon, so you can distinguish commanders. A server could easily say that if you run a havoc group <10 run a red tag period. They’re sitting in the red command section of TS. That way everyone that comes knows red means small command force. And when you run to a red commander that already has about 10 people? Well start a new red command if you want. I have no doubts that servers will “reserve” a color for guilds as well.
Self moderation is what its all about. Colored tags is still doing it less than half-decent and I hope the patch at the very least make the tag account bound, if not bringing private tag option.

Seattle? (describes the place perfectly)
I can hope it’s more than just color tags and a new mastery. If it is just that I hope they actually do it right this time. The last few patches have been like them throwing a brick through a window and then having to clean up the pieces.
A step in the right direction and hopefully improvement is not limited to color changing

I acknowledged that it would be helpful to coordinate, my point is its really not going to change anything except for the 1 or 2 clueless people on a map that can’t stay on the right Comm. If your server has that many people (pugs included) constantly following the wrong tag, well … I would be looking for a new home.

We already know Anet is notorious for ignoring WvW and what little we get, no one asked for or is so craptastic that no one cares. If we start settling for less this will become the norm.
Theres nothing wrong with colors but it is only half of what we asked for, I personally am sick of half that apparently took almost year to add some kittening color … think about that a year to add color. No, that is not good enough, we asked for color and private options how hard could that really be that they couldn’t manage it within a year ? If you want to settle for less then by all means, thats your choice but I will not, when they had plenty of time to get this minor change done. In terms of game programming, yes, this is a very minor change.
In an interview Devon Carver stated the the commander tag will be account-bound and more expensive (300 gold) with upcoming Feature Pack. Refund for additionally paid tags will come.
In Addition you can choose between 4 or 5 colors.

More answers will follow.
Just need to give it the ability to be visible to squad/guild only and I’ll be happy.
Neat. From what year is the interview?
Nice that he finds the time to talk to the media at least, since talking to his customers is prohibited by the tight schedule.

I’m hoping I don’t have to contact support to get all 17 tags minus 1 tag as that’ll be a long process, I am hoping we can speak to an npc with said commander tag and get a refund.. At the moment not much details, here’s hoping we don’t get kittened by ANET as support always likes to delay refunds.
edit that is a total of 18 tags that I have

It’s probably an automatic mail.
Given they have to condense a character record into an account record to even make this possible, they have all the metrics available. I imagine players will just receive a mail from the Anet team with X amount of gold attached.

I thought he got reassigned to a different position within ANET?

We had to talk among others the pleasure with Devon Carver the main responsible for WvW, and thereby learned some interesting things about the commander characters. Firstly, the commander of characters will be available in the future in between 4 to 5 colors. This was an improvement, was asked about the long, especially after the introduction of the Mega Server. Moreover, the character of the commanders will be account bound with the feature patch on 9 September. Anyone who has bought more than a commander character, his gold reimbursed by the support. Furthermore, the price of the sign of 100 gold will rise to 300 gold. We therefore recommend that each commander of the characters should buy in the next few weeks, as long as there is still so cheap. , we have a recording of an interview with Devon Carver that here you will be available in the next few days. In it we have, Nighty by GW2Community.de and Durzan, asked some questions of you in him.
LOL, if it’s just so the people don’t get confused with the tags on the map, it’s literally an T1 and an occasionally T2 update. It’ll be laughable. All other servers are lucky when they have one tag in one map.
Anet just posted in the reddit thread for this. You will only be reimbursed if you have 4 tags or more.

Agree with everything you say. If you check my post history you’ll see I’m a very vocal critic of ArenaNet. So much so that I’ve earned a few all-expenses payed trips to BANanaville (can’t say the dreaded “i” word or I’ll just get “i”-ed again) and was one of the agitators responsible for them instigating the now infamous “THOU SHALT NOT NECRO” ruling. Conversely, I’m also a huge fan of WvW who wants to see this game mode reach it’s full potential; of which it has tons, but is being sorely neglected.
Yes, if all they give us is colored commander tags and little else, then I predict my rants on that topic will be earning me some more vacations to BANanaville. It’s a simple change to make (ArenaNet’s protests to the contrary notwithstanding) and I expect a hell of a lot more to be done for WvW than just that minor improvement. I’m far from settling for just colored tags; but I’m willing to give them a chance despite their past history of dropping the ball where WvW is concerned.
So we’ll see what the feature patch brings. Also, Living Story is being put on hiatus until the Fall; meaning there may be additional personnel and resources freed up to focus on other areas of the game. This is an opportunity for ArenaNet to improve both the WvW mode and repair their relationship with the WvW community. Hopefully they’ll do a Forrest Gump and run with it till they can’t run no mo’. If they don’t…well…it’s going to get ugly on this forum.
4-5 colors, is 2-3 colors short of a full rainbow.
It’s more like commanding 66% of the rainbow… After waiting a year I think we deserve the full rainbow!
For the players who have one commander tag and paid 100g, will they get a full account bound commander tag that costs 300g?
we’ve all seen what happens in games where there’s no disadvantage to taking your pants off.
