You’re alive for a reason.

You’re right. I’m alive because my biological functions are still… functionning.

I guess it wasn’t your point. But tbh, any other explanation of this sentence is going to be full of bullbutterflies.

I think my point was missed. I’m not denying the existence of outliers, I’m taking issue with the statement that accounts (or people as John Smith said) will be consistently lucky. If RNG is random every time and has no reference to an account then what are the odds of any particular account consistently hitting the outlier or in this case receiving the best rewards? That was my point which then led me to assume there must be an external influence acting upon RNG.

The odds are low. Very low. But high enough for them to be a visible occurrence. And there is no account that constantly drop a precursor and high value exo on each boss loot box.

Just have a binded button to toggle the targeted items when multiple items are superposed. That’s almost 0 work for ANET there. Like, really almost 0.

MashMash.1645 > When the first answer to your thread has made a clear point about how you did NOT specify ANYTHING on what you want here, why are you replying with even less informations? Don’t glare at ANET for your own inabilities to build a clear and informative sentence on the matter that brought you here.

Outliers prove that the system is random.

No.

Values should approach the mean as the number of samples is increased.

If I have two 6-sided dice, and one of them averages 3.5 after a very large number of rolls, and the other averages 5 and never rolls a 1, that is not proof that the dice are random; it is evidence that the second die is loaded.

Except that each players is a serie of a number of X random die rolls. And even though that number might be quite high, I doubt it is high enough to smooth the difference of luck between players.

Take your dice and do 100;1000 or whatever high number you want, of separate series of 100 rolls. Most of these series will score an average of 3.5; +-1. But some of these series will score an average of 1-2 and 5-6. These are the expected outliers.

Wait, 8 pages because OP is jealous of other people? Whose game are we playing?

Wanze > The funny thing about limiting the number of sells / profit you can make per day on the TP is that it would limit the supply while the demand would remain as high as before. Therefore, all the prices would literally inflate. Therefore, wealthy people would still be able to buy anything they want while poor people wouldn’t be able to buy anything anymore.

OP, you should definitly go there and post a lot about yourself and how your wonderful brain works : https://www.reddit.com/r/iamverysmart

How S/D is NOT better than D/D for offense?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Somehow.4769

Somehow.4769

This is exactly what I was looking for, thanks. So I guess my follow up to this is, why is S/F considered an acceptable kit compared to D/F?

In regards to PvP in all comes down to what you want to achieve. S/F has enough burst dmg to make a rather correct marauder fresh air instakill build. With S/F you want to avoid teamfights and focus on quickly bringing down a single lone opponent (mainly bunkers) to capture a point. The focus gives you a LOT of raw survivability in form of damage blockers (air 4, earth 5).

D/F cele tempest is just overall superior and more versatile. It’s more oriented around teamfight and / or keeping a point. Overloads are less risky to cast due to your higher bulkiness, and the sustain is just amazing.

Playing D/F instead of D/D is giving up mobility for 1 more aura, 9 seconds of projectile reflect / destruction, 3 seconds of invul and a targeted knockdown. It just fits me better actually. But that’s just me.

Anything planned about crashes?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Somehow.4769

Somehow.4769

This was just my tenth attempt at Mordremoth mouth. This was my tenth attempt with a crash of my client happening at at least one part of the whole meta event. I’ve got about 15 crashs in these 10 attempts. I wouldn’t be bothered if I just had to relog, join the map and that’s it. But guess what ? I couldn’t rejoin the map on 3 of these attempts, 2 times while fighting the mouth itself.

Now I get that the game can’t always work perfectly. I also get that I have to be that guy with an updated win7 sp1 and still can’t have the 64 bits client working. I also understand that not much people also get to have disconnections 5 minutes before the mouth is dead. So yeah, I’ve got to be that one special case. Hurray. But to be honest, I wouldn’t be bothered if I wasn’t denied access to the map I actively participated in. I can relog and load a map within 10 seconds after a crash, yet I get to face a large wall with a “GET LOST” graffiti on it.

How is it possible that no one thought about a 30 seconds safe-spot in case someone crashes? How is it possible that the only solution to a bugged 32-bits client is to use a beta 64-bits client that only throws me more error messages?

This is my first and only rant on the internet. The first time I ever proceed to express my unsatisfaction. I feel like my special places have been unproperly explored by unwanted presences. wat do?

ArenaNet... personal damage meter ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Somehow.4769

Somehow.4769

I’m all in for a personal statistic meter. But I’d want it to actually give me various informations on how many condi I cleansed, separate power / condi dmg (or both added up), heal, how many damage I’ve taken, how many I would’ve taken with no armor / boons, etc. I’d like it to give as much informations as possible.

There is one fact, this tool would help me improve my playstyle based on effectiveness of these playstyles. Because I sometimes am not sure wether I am underperforming or the team is underperforming. And there’s that I sometimes am maybe changing my playstyle when it was actually good enough for what I was doing.

As long as it’s personal, who cares?

How's Cele staff?

Somehow.4769

Fine. It feels way better than D/F to hold on a point, but worse to attack / cap a point. You give up the D/D or D/F duel ability to compliment your strong teamfight overloads and shouts. I prefer versality over specialization, so I stick with D/F.

celestial vs zerker+soldiers?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Somehow.4769

Somehow.4769

How in the hell Celestial stats would give more crit chance and dmg than berz stats? It just doesn’t happen.

Celestial can NOT deal as much raw dmg as berz because almost half the stats are spent on survivability. That’s just common sense. I would like to know how you conducted your tests. Or did you just add every spell’s dmg without accounting the CDs and how much of these spells would hit?

edit : Either you are facing a boss with a larger hitbox than your average enemy or you are facing multiple small enemies. Either cases, your meteor shower is going to hit WAY MORE than 1 time. So yeah. Your calculations are flawed and don’t reflect reality in any way.

How Can D/D Eles Survive against DH

Somehow.4769

Never thought of starting fights in earth. Gotten so used to opening fights in air or fire. Maybe the key to playing tempest is forget how to play ele?

The key is to adapt.

Starting a fight in earth is the best way to prepare the fight, mitigate the first burst rotation and set up an area where you get a lot of protection. Starting a fight air means you’ll get a fresh air reset sooner and be able to cast your earth spells before entering back to air. This is a more agressive approach.

Do NOT forget that air overload and earth overload are both even stronger once the cast is finished, with the downside of being locked to a specific area. I often precast air overload before jumping to melee so I can immediatly swap to another element, get my reset and think about what’s coming next.

Celestial Staff Elementalist for raids?

Somehow.4769

It seems like being super specialized brings more than being a jack of all trades. The synergy between the different offensive stats is way too good to miss out on a dps character. Theorically 1 full support + 1 full dps would be almost as good as 3 celestial characters.

Channeling Overload Air w/ Fresh Air build

Somehow.4769

Dunno, I don’t have a problem fully casting the overloads and I’m playing as a berz tempest, so I guess you’re just not fully accomodated to the change. Get the stability while overloading in the tempest specialization and it’ll be way better. Also, the range of air overload is larger than you seem to think. You have to run around the mobs, kite them until you fully casted it.

Small Changes to Tempest

Water overload’s scaling is pretty meh, base healing is okish.

All 3 other overloads gives you nice bonuses on a locked area after you finished casting them. Air overload continues to deal dmg and to give you might, air overload continues to deal its huge damages, earth overload gives you a lot of protection and still cripples enemies. Water’s overload’s only good feature is the heal “burst” and that’s it. Once the 4 cast seconds are over there’s nothing more to get from it. And you have to cast for 4 seconds to get a 3-4k heal. I don’t know. It is underwhelming.

TITLE EDIT: Do Sylvari have genitalia?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Somehow.4769

Somehow.4769

Well, to be discussed.

Mordremoth wouldn’t want and need for Sylvari to be able to reproduce by themselves. It controls the reproduction of its minions and that’s how it has been planned from the beginning. It wouldn’t make sense if they had genitalia. The female or male body features are purely aesthetical and could be justified by how these features remain visible despite the clothing. However, genitalia are not visible through clothes.

But there’s also the Wiki page that states that : “To a sylvari, love is spiritual and eternal, regardless of physical form and contact, and sexuality is simply a natural part of life.” meaning that they can have sex, which is a strong argument for the “they have genitalia” side.

As for leveling, don’t mind the stats. You’ll have great use of any of them, even defensive stats. Staff is really good with the dodge roll from fire and high damage AoE. Most of the time you’ll stay untouched as mobs will die before reaching you.

Soldier’s runes. It gives you the condi cleanse you need to survive the heavy condi pressures. I can’t see myself using anything else with a tempest / uti shout build.
