Am I the only one who is experiencing these issues?

As you can see, the last screenshot shows me throwing a grenade quite close to the screen with out losing any frames. My computer is more than sufficient to run this game, so its definitely not a hardware issue, my drivers are up to date as well as everything else that should be. The game runs fine at 31 frames everywhere except WvW and these strange FPS drops from random particle effects.

Another thing I’d like to mention is the ridiculously high effect that particle effects have when you are zoomed in, it can cause almost 20 FPS decrease, whereas when zoomed out, there are no issues, here are some more screens of my FPS drop:

(NOTICE the time stamp, I haven’t changed any settings, and the time between the FPS drop is literally seconds)

Hello,

Basically what I’m trying to say by Pistol bug, is that when the bullet leaves the gun, it seems to do so at a much higher point than the tip of the gun, as any normal bullet would, here’s a few screenshots as it’s sort-of hard to explain:

Asura feet-boots...

In all honesty, I’ve had a close look at my Asuran toes and I can say that it’s not meant to be this way. It’s not like our ears stick out when we have hoods, why doesn’t the same logic apply to shoes? At least paint them the same colour as the shoe or remove them when the shoes are on, or make it so the foot is visible, like the Tauren’s in WoW.

Yeah I wish it was as easy as that, but I recently bought this laptop specifically for gaming, its the best I could afford for my budget and its reasonably powerful, I don’t think its too much to ask for a stable framerate at least in PvE with out the random dips from particle effects. I’m well aware I can get a nice desktop for gaming for the same price, but unfortunately I need the mobility, since I’m only renting this flat, and unsure wether I am even staying in the country.

Also I agree, I suppose it was a bad example to put those 2 games up there, although I can say I’ve played Swtor on this laptop, which is a recent MMO, and it ran at a stable 60 frames at medium, with only the usual hiccups in crowded situations which is to be expected.

I thought an i5 processor was more than enough for newer games, reckon it was my GPU thats causing the issue. Back in beta I used to have fewer issues than I do at launch, its really frustrating.

Maybe I’m in denial though. I suppose I’ll just have to sit it out till maybe a magical patch comes through that fixes my issues, though I doubt it. I was just hoping it wasn’t my rig that was weak, just the game that needs optimizing. I still refuse to believe that zooming into a SPECIFIC particle effect, like a grenade explosions or the tip of the flamethrower makes me lose 20-30 FPS in a matter of seconds is due to my laptop not being able to handle it, it just seems really, really odd!

Still, my question stands – ANY idea what may be causing the issues of particles and guardian character creation hitting my FPS so hard? It just makes NO sense to me. Is it really too much for my rig to handle?

Another thing I’d like to add, is that on the Character Creation screen, when creating any race/guardian my fps drops as well, and the character rotation becomes really sluggish. It’s the only profession that makes this happen.

I’m pretty sure its not a GPU thing, since I’ve talked to a few people in-game and they say they experience the same thing, with some artifacting of bigger stuff, like buildings. Nobody has a clue what this is?

The worst thing is I haven’t touched my GPU, haven’t overclocked it or anything. My GPU is running at 70C heat max, which is pretty much what it runs at when I play any other game.

Hello again,

I have found a few things related to terrain artifacting, but not exactly what I’m looking for. I’m wondering wether I’m alone on this or not. It’s quite often that I find the terrain in many areas to have these tiny blue squares that flash. It’s definitely not something specific to a certain area, but it’s all over the game world. Is there any fix for this? is it a GPU issue? My graphics card is an Nvidia 540m with an i5-2430m processor, it’s more than enough to run this game smoothly, especially with out any sort of graphical issues. I’ve also checked my temperatures and its not my laptop thats overheating.

Anyone else having this issue? It really ruins the immersion for me, and its the first time I see anything like this.

It is definitely strange, I’m just hoping its a question of optimization rather than me having to invest into a newer laptop/desktop, I think its not crazy for me to expect a stable 40ish FPS with no random dips. Though 40 fps and 20 fps in WvW seems about right for me. It only goes to about 10-15 when there is tons of players around. The most annoying thing for me right now though, is the explosions and certain particle effects (like the mist in AC) that cause my FPS to drop to 20ish as well as the terrain artifacting (tiny blue squares flashing on ground).

I play at the native 1366×768 which I hear is okay for a 540m, and in-game settings everything on low with native textures. I’ve tried different resolutions but the difference is really not noticeable at all, maybe 1-2 frames better, also any kind of graphical tweak in WvW keeps the frames at the same amount, for example if I put everything on high, it’ll still run at 10-15 fps which is really odd. I’ll check out MSI afterburner, thanks for the replies and keep ’em coming.

Also, no matter what driver I play it on the perfomance is pretty much identical. Could it be my GPU is faulty? I’ve had a few issues with installing new drivers, like not being able to remove a lot of the registry stuff with driver sweeper when performing a clean install and when it installs the VGA adapter it says it has a (Code 10) not sure if thats relevant.

Any clue what may be causing particle effects from Grenades and flamethrowers and thief NPC’s going into stealth to slow my computer down by a good 20-25 frames?
Another thing thats odd is I often see small blue squares on terrain pop up, think its called artifacting and sometimes textures overlapping and flickering in the distance.

Hello, first off I’ll post my speccs:

Processor – Intel Core i5-2430m 2,4ghz
GPU – nVidia GeForce 540m (driver version 306.23)
OS – Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
System Model – Asus K53SV
Memory – 6GB

Let me just say that I’ve tried everything. Fixing GW2 install, installing fresh new drivers from both Nvidia and my asus site (with no changes) , gamebooster, stopping background programs, you name it, I’ve done it. I can’t accept that my laptop goes to 5-10 FPS in big fights in WvW, and 30ish FPS in places like Ascalon Catacombs, which is pretty barren.

I play on everything low, except for the resolution which I keep at Native level, otherwise its way too blurry. Anything from a Grenade explosion to a fire wall can ‘cause my frames to drop by 10, sometimes down to 20 if its in a closed area, where I can’t zoom out. I’d just like to clear it up, is it my hardware thats the issue? is the game not optimized for my graphics card or is it just not strong enough for this game? Please, I’ve done everything, I’d really appreciate some input. I generally play at around 50 frames no problem (capper doesn’t cap me at 60) and with everything on Low I don’t see why I’m having issues.

Would also like to mention that I run Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 on high – ultra, with constant 40 frames (which I capped it at manually) even in 4v4 battles.

Framerate Limiter Not Limiting Properly

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Sonvil.3670

Yep happens to me too, nvidia 540m. Wish I could cap my frames at 30, but it caps at 25. Some areas are unplayable at 50 FPS, make the game feel like walking through a swamp.

The really odd thing is, sometimes if I alt tab out, the frame jumps and caps at 30-31. This can also happen randomly after playing for a while.

framerate slider and particle effects control

Hello,

Let me start off by saying that I’m loving the game, and there are only a few tweaks here and there I’d like to add, most importantly the following:

Framerate slider – I’ve come across this in LOTRO, and I loved this feature. It allowed me to customize my framerate from 1 to 100 and worked like a charm. My laptop isn’t exactly top of the line but it gets the job done, for me 60 FPS is too high (considering it actually caps at 60, not at 50 like it usually does) and 30 FPS is too low (actually its not, but for some reason it caps me at 25) 40ish FPS is perfect, giving me a stable FPS with a good look to it. Its a simple feature but it really helps optimize the game for people with less beefy machines. I’m really dissapointed with the framerate limiter, as its extremely… well, limited.

Particle effects control tool – I’m sure this has been posted before, but I couldn’t find it using the search tool, so here it goes. I’d love to see a particle effect control implemented. You see, I’ve an issue where certain particles such as the tip of the flamethrower and my grenades (you guessed it, I’m an Engineer) cause me to go from a smooth 50 fps to 15 in a matter of seconds. It feels like I’m running through a swamp. This game is really well optimized, but when it comes to the particles my machine can’t handle it and I’m not the only one. Certain particles work however, its only specific ones like I mentioned that screw me up.

Anyway, let me know what you think.
Thanks for reading.
