Welcome to the game. I’m a fairly new player myself and a fellow WoW veteran. I’d echo what others have said about not needing to rush WoW levelling was a means to an end, you wanted to hit that level cap to enjoy end game content.
GW2 is not like that. You can already do a lot of ‘end game’ content at lvl 22. There are at least 4 world bosses that I can think of off the top of my head that you can do, and these are bosses that level 80s fight also, they’re not waste of time encounters by any means.
You can also do WvW and Fractals. They scale you up to 80. Sure you won’t be in lvl 80 gear with traits, but with a laid-back guild you can still participate and this will help you learn the game better.
Enjoy the ride, it’s a world away from ‘kill x amount of monsters and bring back y amount of drops’
Forgot I posted this until now. Thanks for the advice. Currently running LB with S/D as my second set. Melee Ranger is actually more fun than I thought it’d be, and if I want to stand back and pew pew with my LB and my sub-optimal raven pet, I can still do that when I’m playing on my own.
I’m keeping my Thief also, it’s crazy fun to play, but I really like exploring in MMOs and pet collecting can be a fun way to do that. Went and got myself a shark at lvl 14 which was fun.
Ah great, thanks.
I may be missing something here, but is it not possible to use the same one hand weapon in both weapon sets?
On my Mesmer, I’m using dual swords, I’d like my other set to be sword/pistol. I can’t seem to use either of my dual swords in the second set. Do I have to buy a 3rd or am I missing something?
Hello Tacit
We are on AG [GWSA] Check us out on http://www.gw-sa.co.za/
Thanks for the reply. Checked the bit about your guild on your forums and you sounded great up until I read about your prime time. It’s slightly too late for me. I’m usually on around 7PM – 11PM GMT.
Also don’t have a mic. Will probably pick one up by the time I’m ready to run dungeons though.
I used to play the original GW but I’m a new player to GW2, just started last week. I have a lvl 20 Thief and a soon-to-be-20 Engineer. I’m generally more of a PvE kind of player, but I used to love GvG on the old Guild Wars.
I’m more interested in the social aspect of being in a guild than anything else. So I’d like a guild that does events and things together, and also has a lively guild chat, but I’ve done my time as a semi-hardcore MMO player, so I’m after something more relaxed now.
I’m in my mid 30’s so I’m looking for a guild with similarly old-age players
I played the original GW but I’m new to GW2. I rolled a Ranger as I tend to enjoy pet classes and ranged combat. I looked at some guides to get me started and nearly all of them seemed to suggest Rangers were better off using swords than bows.
Is this true? Not sure I want to bother levelling what’s going to feel (to me anyway) like a Thief with a pet.
