You have joined too many parties recently...

Tacit Ronin.2097

Look, I get why this exists, to an extent. But I’ve missed out on several meta events because I’ve joined a taxi only to find my destination map is full and by the time I’m allowed to join another party, I’ve missed several other taxis, and there’s no telling I’ll be able to get into the next one’s map either. thereby starting an even longer timer when I leave meaning I may as well kiss goodbye to participating in this meta.

I don’t know if it would be possible for the game client to pick up when you haven’t joined your party leader and stop the timer kicking in when you leave in these cases? Or simply disable the timer completely. I’d imagine a few idiots spam joining parties are the lesser of two evils when it comes to costing people participating in the meta and potentially having over an hour to wait to try again?

Maybe it’s just me? I’m just getting really annoyed by this feature lately.

That’s what I was afraid of. I’ll need about 30g to get the reclaimed plates. I hear the drop rate is too low to even bother about any less than rare weapons which I don’t have right now but was hoping to buy part of the collection and unlock it so that the backing will be in my loot table for noxious pods.

Oh well, I guess I’d better start farming thanks anyway.

So I’m working on Glint’s Bastion, so I need this shield. I’ve found out what items I need. What I want to know is, how do I unlock this collection? I have the masteries to speak to Itzel, Exalted and Nuhock vendors and I have the tokens, but they wont sell me the bits because I don’t have the machined shield collection unlocked.

Thanks in advance.

I’ve been running my ranger as a DPS druid using LB/GS, the root on cc is lovely.
At the moment she’s mostly zerker, with soldier’s rings, might swap em for zerk again, especially if I take her to raids.
In pve, it’s been amazing, the amount of roots you have access to makes everything a breeze, plus the occasional burst heal as you need it from CA.
Marks/BM/Druid are the lines I run.

Could you post your build please? I’m just starting to play around with Druid and this seems interesting.

Everything I’ve read stresses to avoid CC at all costs, is the SCAR Gerent the exception? Or did our taco not know what he was talking about?

Fully agree with the sentiment here, also baffled as to why they chose to leave the most obnoxious visual ‘noise’ alone. IE the Herald buffcircle. I play Rev and this thing is permanently distracting. I’ll happily swap it for all the super-sized fireballs in the world.

I get why PvP hardcore players might want less clutter, but I like things to whizz and bang appropriately. People can turn down their graphics settings if they’re living the E-Sport dream. Maybe add some extra toggles to the settings for customisation, but forcing everything to be less viceral makes all our characters feel a lot weaker to play and that’s not ok.

You have a large amount of players who enjoy PvE and are getting fed up of having our game always be the one to have to make concessions to PvP. Please don’t forget us Anet.

I’ve noticed it’s still there. Will it disappear or simply stay there? I realise I can’t use it, but my beta Rev has a name I might want to use for my actual one when HoT is released so it’s working as a placeholder right now.

I don’t have a spare slot otherwise. I’m ok with purchasing one, but I’d rather wait til closer to the date. Plus Anet might decide to be kind and give us a slot when we by the xpac, like they’ve done previously with Factions and Nightfall.

Revenant: Found it fiddly at first, by the end of the 2 hours, I wished I could keep it. Dwarf is clearly the better of the two legends, could do with less of a delay when switching stances.

Map: Similar to Dry Top. Has the same advantages (clever layout, looks pretty) and the same disadvantages (too vertical, gimmicky movement options)

Story mission SPOILERS Very much approve of the new addition to the LS band of buddies. I fell off a cliff and spent ages figuring out how to get back, by the time I had, the champ had been killed by NPCs. Also good to see Rytlock again. I really hope we get Glint as a legend for our Revs also.

Events: Escorts too weak, took me too long to get to most areas because I was still getting used to the map.

Mastery: Cool system, just wish I’d seen that tick mark earlier, by the time I found it, I didn’t have enough time to unlock gliding, and as I’m in the UK, I won’t be able to make the other two tests, unless you sporadically decide to have another one tomorrow? hint (worth a shot)

Fellow EU players: Whilst the times are a bit awkward, remember we will be the ones having fun whilst ArenaNet will be on the other end of the line at the same time as us working – not having fun time!

If getting into the Beta Test was so important to you, you make sure you’re there by hook or by crook. Heck, I’ll be there at all three time slots!!

Energy drinks at the ready!

ArenaNet will also be getting paid :p

I see your point, as well as I see everyone’s point about Anet being based in the US and that they didn’t have to give us a beta at all, but even taking that into consideration, if I had spent hours upon hours getting a portal only to find this out afterward (as it was I got one while I was farming for carapace chest) I’d feel a little underwhelmed. Surely Anet could’ve told players before the portal event rough playtimes to make sure the people going for portals would even be available even if they couldnt reveal the date?

Luckily I’m free Tuesday evening so I’ll get a couple of hours playing (that’s if the server doesnt collapse under the strain of all the EU players trying to get in that one window) but as I have work, the other two shifts are right out, energy drinks or no.

Can someone explain to me how the elite specs work? Is it basically just another weapon set or does it take over your character? I like the new elites if I can swap it out for another weapon set but not so much if it takes over all the character abilities.

For example, can I use GS and still swap to staff if I choose the elite spec? Thanks.

You can still use all the other weapons that a necro can use, equipping the Reaper traitline just allows you to equip GS, you don’t have to if you don’t want to. And you will still have 2 weapon sets, so you can switch between GS and staff no worries.

Anet, THIS is how you do a spec launch video. You’ve made Reaper look brilliant. Now I just hope that I’m not disappointed by the full reveal tomorrow

Can we kill Trahearne already?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Tacit Ronin.2097

I had two issues with Trahearne, the first was the voice acting, which is second only to the male sylvari player character in the ‘really? this is the best guy you could find?’ stakes

The second was that as a sylvari, I recovered Saladbolg from Waine, why does Trahearne get to have it?

I really don’t get the hate for Caithe though? Although I’d rather see Canach as the de facto leader of the sylvari faction. The end of LS seems to suggest that’s not impossible.

Dragonhunter revealed... meh

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tacit Ronin.2097

Tacit Ronin.2097

Add another to the ‘change the name’ vote. Sentinel is actually a pretty good call. Dragonhunter is a terrible name for a class that doesn’t have any more connection to dragons than any other class.

I have mixed feelings about the class itself. I have wanted a ranged weapon on guardian for some time, however I’ve never wanted traps, it brings it just that little bit too close to ranger playstyle for me. Having more mobility would be a plus, but angel wings on my charr will look ridiculous.

There’s something about this specialisation that just feels unfinished to me. The second I finished reading about chronomancer, I finished levelling my mesmer to 80 and picked up the tormented shield skin in anticipation. My guardian is already 80, but I feel no renewed surge of wanting to play it.

I’ll probably have a go at this class, but I’m not remotely excited for it.

But seriously, that name has to go.

Living Story/Open world is horrible as mesmer

in Mesmer

Posted by: Tacit Ronin.2097

Tacit Ronin.2097

I’m a newish mesmer and terrible at PvP so take from this whatever you like, but in PvE open world for any kind of phantasm build, Signet of the Ether is your buddy. Don’t wait to use it for the heal. just summon phantasm of your choice, signet, resummon. Then if need be weapon swap and summon another. If it’s just 1 or 2 mobs, you only need one phantasm and a couple clones anyway.

Against a group, I usually attack a different target to my phantasms to try and spread the damage.

I think having them persist would make gameplay too passive for mesmer. It’s not meant to be a faceroll (for want of a better word) class. Perhaps a compromise where an illusion persists only when there’s a target in extreme short range of where the illusion was standing when its previous target died which it can hit with its next attack, but I wouldn’t want to see them following the mesmer about while he/she goes mob to mob like a ranger pet.

That being said, Kasmeer’s illusions persist and that kinda bugs me.

You call it a beta test, I call it a preview of upcoming changes and a chance to play with new skills/profession.

I haven’t got a portal yet, and I’m not too worried if my 1 hour or so a day of looking doesn’t get me one, but if I do get in, I’ll report any bugs if I come across them, but I’m not going to actively look for them. I’m just gonna play with the new features.

That’s the difference between me and a professional beta tester.

…Although if Anet does want to pay me, I’d be more than happy to work as a professional beta tester

Why do Black Lion Ticket Scraps exist?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tacit Ronin.2097

Tacit Ronin.2097

They don’t want you to get more tickets.
What they want is more people gambling real money on keys.

if I could get weapons skins direct off the gem store so I know that my money is being spent on exactly what I want it to be spent on, I’ll happily fork over the right price for the right skin.

Really? Would you for instance pay 20$ for a weapon skin? 40$? 50$?

If I was willing to pay that much, then I could buy the gold and get them off the TP. That’s why I said the ‘right’ price. The few weapon skins that have been on the gem store are generally about £7 – £8 I’d pay that, perhaps a little more if it was a ‘must-have’ skin. Brings them in line with the armor skins.

Why do Black Lion Ticket Scraps exist?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tacit Ronin.2097

Tacit Ronin.2097

It is purely for the money. Any time you tie an RNG to the cash shop it is to milk as much money from the customer as possible. The smarter option, and the one players would prefer, would just be to make these skins straight cash shop purchases, but that wouldn’t make them as much money so of course they wouldn’t do that.

That’s debatable. I don’t buy keys as I know the drop rate for anything good is pretty small, and I imagine from the vast amounts of BL chests on the TP that many others are in the same boat as me, now if I could get weapons skins direct off the gem store so I know that my money is being spent on exactly what I want it to be spent on, I’ll happily fork over the right price for the right skin.

I guess it’s up to Anet’s cash people to figure out if the potential revenue from people like me would balance out the drop in people buying keys. maybe they’ve already done that and that’s why the system we have is in place, but if not…?

I would like to have a rough idea of the chances. Not so I could moan about it, it’s entirely up to Anet to decide how many players they want for their beta, but simply so I could make an informed choice as to if it’s worth spending my time in game doing something that’s really no fun at all, when I’d rather be playing my Engi who’s too low for the zone.

So my Engineer is 72, and I’ve started to look into what I want to do at endgame. I really like the idea of the 3 kit celestial build.

Now sadly I’ve left it a bit late to be getting celestial gear. My Engi is a 400 leatherworker so I thought I’d be able to craft an exotic set no worries (Not going to do ascended until after HoT to see if it still holds up) but I wasn’t aware of the charged quartz timegate.

So while I wait 30 days to gather the necessary quartz, what stats do you recommend I wear in the meantime? Should I get a mix? Or lean toward zerk?

Would it be at all beneficial to save skill points but not actively spend them on skills. Would they all be converted to hero points? Or is there a system where they see what level my character is and which skill challenges he’s completed and I get the hero points from that when I log in after the trait change? and they’ll also know how many scrolls I’ve used on a character and so they’ll gift me however many mats that equates to.

I’m a little confused by this process to be honest.

I would quite like it if you had the option on an existing level 80, that instead of getting a skillpoint every time the exp bar filled, you’d be mailled a Tome of Knowledge to use on a different character.

I have very little need for skillpoints, and as such I don’t use my lvl 80 characters as much as I’d like to because I feel I’m wasting the exp gain. I realise some like the skillpoints though, so if it were ever to be implemented, I guess it’d have to be selected similar to PvP tracks.

Tacit Ronin.2097

But I am curious, what’s the story about the Asura being a sign of racism? I can’t see where you are going with that and I’ve never heard anything about it.

The term ‘bookah’ is a slur against non-asura. From the wiki.
’"Bookah" is a large, loud, bellowing, and dumb imaginary creature that the Asura used to frighten their children. Since their surfacing, they use the term to refer to those they view as inferior beings, which to them is almost everyone who is not an Asura.

Then again, I’m not offended by that either seeing as a big part of asura schtick is how they view themselves as intellectually superior. But it is there, and it is more prejudice than the norn exhibit.

Is GW2 Nordicist?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tacit Ronin.2097

Tacit Ronin.2097

I think you’re making the mistake of including norns in with humanity. The way you say ‘the rest of humans’ Norn are a completely different race, and like all the races in GW are neither superior or inferior to humans. The fact that they look more human than the other races doesn’t make them human. If they looked like giant birds but still came from the north and dressed like Scandinavian warriors of old, would you still feel the same?

Also, other than the fact that they’re bigger, is there any possible example of norn being portrayed as a superior race to humans? They’re just different. Sure Anet has clearly been influenced by vikings when creating the norn, but as others have said, that’s not the only culture they’ve drawn on.

Norn NPCs and player characters are available in a variety of skin colours, all are treated equally, I’ve not seen any norn NPCs show any inherent racism of any kind, which is more than I can say for asura.

If you’re looking to be offended by something, you can interpret almost anything badly, but I really don’t see anything sinister about the norn.

1. the 4th dye channel does nothing.
2. you cannot change the colour of the flames. This may seem dumb to some as they’re fire coloured, but I’d like to have it changed to ghostfire for my Guardian. being able to change the colour of the ‘glow’ would also go a long way to making the sets more unique looking.

Is it really that bad?

in Necromancer

Tacit Ronin.2097

All class forums seem to mainly be people saying how their class is crap and Anet need to fix it. Necro forum is the worst offender IMO, but maybe that’s because necro genuinely has the most to whine about.

Necro is not meta, but necro is not an inherently bad class. It’s just a selfish class, you can still do pretty good DPS, it’s just that you don’t really bring anything along that helps your team, and there’s nothing that you can do that cannot be done better by a different class.

That aside, necro is a lot of fun to play, and if you want to play one, my advice is that you do it. The best thing you can do is find yourself a friendly guild that cares more about having fun than meta-fuelled speed-clears and you won’t have to worry about LFG.

Is the class really that bad? Depends on your definition of bad.

Is there hope for the future that it’ll be fixed etc? I hope HOT gives us some new skills that invite us to the exclusive meta club for those that need it.

and do you guys actually enjoy playing your Necro even with all this? Absolutely.
