They gap between Exotic and legendary was an effort gap.

Ascended gear was intended to fill that gap.

However, by adding better stats to ascended gear they successfully created ANOTHER gap to take the original gaps place.

GG Arenanet on becoming EA; fix one problem, create another even worse problem.

There wasn’t even an effort gap! They put Ascended items in for no reason except to cater to people who can’t live without higher numbers.

Fact is if you’ve been watching feedback here and on other gaming sites, there were a lot of people who felt like there’s not much to do in GW2, no endgame, boring after you hit 80, “i don’t want legendary and got full exotics right after I got 80, so I quit logging in” and over and over, the flames about no endgame.

So… here’s some endgame. With fractal, so no matter how you do it, it never ends. Smoke em if you got em, we’ll be here a while.

Well, a lot of people didn’t play Guild Wars, didn’t read ArenaNet’s design philosophy, and then bought a game they wouldn’t like and have tried to change it.

I don’t go buy a Clancy novel and expect a romance novel.

Some people will like the patch. That’s fine.

Some people will not. Those of us who played GW1 will probably not like it. Those of us who bought this game because of their manifesto will not like it.

This is not good for the game long-term.

Did everything but not 100 percent complete

Hello,

So basically I’ve done all heart quests, skill points, POIs, and vistas, in both PvE (including chantry of secrets) and WvW.
Did everything but still at 98 percent map completion. Is there something that I’m supposed to do that I’ missing?

Thanks.

One thing I will suggest is giving it a little time. I’ve noticed that sometimes my map completion percent on the character selection screen is different from what you see in-game.

Also, check the exploration achievements. You may have missed discovering a couple of caves or something.

How many people did you invite?

Zero. I’m not inviting people to a game with a gear treadmill.

@ Osprey : You’re forgetting the easiest way to get Exotics through WvWvW – buy it off the TP with gold. I’ve made a profit on most nights in the Mists and was able to buy an Exalted medium helm to transmute with my earnings.

Can we do that with Ascended gear? Nope. Everything so far is account bound.

And even then, WHY should we have to rebuy gear? There was no such thing as a gap between exotics and legendaries. Why did they feel the need to make such a gap and force us to regear?

Well, a lot of people couldn’t enjoy the game for what it was. They complained. ArenaNet sided with them over the loyal fans of the franchise and their own manifesto.

ArenaNet is great.

Found this post and just… well, wow how far Anet has fallen. From the days of threads thanking them for being different than all the others… to threads with postings in the thousands condemning them for being like all the others, all within a MONTH.

It makes me sad because so many people loved ArenaNet’s stated design philosophy carried over from Guild Wars into Guild Wars 2. Now they’ve gone back on that and added gameplay elements we were trying to escape.

all of you people complaining really irritate me. its like you cant stand change. big deal they changed A PORTION OF THE GAME. IT ISNT THE END OF THE WORLD.

They made a change that was contradictory to their mission statement, for those of us who are responsible consumers and value corporate standards, that is a big deal.

You’ll understand that when you’re older.

no i just like to be open minded and i actually adapt to new ideas and dont just want a MMO that is suppose to evolve to just remain static. it isnt the end of the world. its 1 dungeon. there are other things to do. its nice to see some people are too close minded to figure that out.

You’re new to the franchise, aren’t you? You didn’t read the manifesto, did you?

Why do people fear 'power creep'?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tempest.1254

Tempest.1254

the only reason is because people kitten about wanting new content then want to kitten even more when its released because its not “exactly what they want”.

if we didn’t have a power creep when new content was released people would fly through it in a day or two and complain when there is nothing to do again, a power creep gives the dev atleast a few weeks even months before the excessive whining starts on the forums.

No, it’s not about what getting “exactly what they want” it’s about being given exactly what was promised, which is no gear treadmill. A power creep is not necessary. GW1 did it for years and thru new expacs still didn’t raise the level or gear cap for a long time. New content can be made challenging without having to raise gear numbers.

And power creep shouldn’t be implemented just to give the developers a month to stave off whining. There should be real reasons for any big decisions. And this is a big one.

I will say that I’m sick of people complaining about no end-game cuz they did it already. In GW1 we were all very happy to run FOW & UW & Tombs over and over and over. Because it was challenging and not every part was doable right away or without strategy. This game doesn’t require enough strategy just yet, but I’m confident.

It always comes back to “Gw1” is blah blah blah

isn’t it?

Sorry, I actually have faith in Anet.

If they didn’t think Ascended Gear was necessary, they would not have implented it, especially when they knew it’s going to pizz some people off.

And I really don’t care for Gw1 man. This isn’t Gw1. This is nothing like Gw1. If they’re gonna make another Gw1, they should have just give Gw1 a new expansion and better graphic.

This is Gw2.
They’re going for a new thing.

Feeling betrayed because they went back on their words? Bad luck.
Things happens. Turns out getting exotic is too easy and most people dont like horizontal progression.

Situation’s become so dire they had to roll in the change. Fast.

Well, yes, of course Guild Wars is relevant.

The reason we have a sequel is because some of the additions they wanted to add to GW in the first place wasn’t a possibility at the time, so they started working on a sequel as a long-term goal.

Whether you like it or not, GW2 is a sequel to a game that had certain gameplay elements. Those gameplay elements are part of ArenaNet’s design philosophy, which are outlined pretty clearly through interviews, articles, blog posts, and videos that the ArenaNet team have been releasing for years during development.

A major selling point for this game for a lot of people was that design philosophy. There aren’t supposed to be gimmicks, arbitrary rewards, gear treadmills, gated content, and gear checks in this franchise. This new content is all of the things they outright said they wouldn’t add.

So, with all due respect, those of us that are upset have an extremely good reason to be upset. This is a lot different from people not understanding there is no separate set of content at the level cap because they didn’t learn about the game before buying it. This is ArenaNet going back on their word.

It’s fine if you like the new content; Everyone likes different things. But some of us have been playing Guild Wars for years. Some of us have followed the development of Guild Wars 2 since the first moment they heard about it. Many of us have been very excited for this game for a very long time, and to find that three months after release they’re going back on all of the things I love about this game is extremely disheartening and very disappointing.

Please go ahead and keep adding more item and character progression. Its a very good way to keep pve interesting for a long time. New skins are good, but what if you dont like the new skins or like the one you have more? After all visuals are personal preference.

No, don’t.

ArenaNet’s MMO Manifesto and design philosophy was a major selling point for many of their current customers. Going back on that undermines ArenaNet’s reputation and integrity.

Furthermore, the reason this mess happened is because they did the thing you’re telling them not to do now. They should’ve stuck to their principles and not given in to anything else.

I’d like to respond to concerns players have raised about ascended items. Please keep in mind that we’re releasing this as one portion of a massive November update that introduces and improves many aspects of challenge, progression, and rewards. With this and upcoming updates, we view ourselves as introducing large amounts of content with supporting systems and features, akin to an expansion pack, building on Guild Wars 2 through a series of live releases. So it’s important for us to be able to add an expansion pack’s worth of progression and rewards to support that content.

Our goal is not to create a gear treadmill. Our goal is to ensure we have a proper progression for players from exotic up to legendary without a massive jump in reward between the two. We will slowly add the remaining ascended gear items and legendary items in future updates to allow people time to acquire them as we add exciting new content that deserves exciting rewards. We will not be adding a new tier of gear every 3 months that we expect everyone to chase after and then get the next set and so on.

Ascended and infusion rewards will be available in both PvE and WvW over time, and be made available through all sorts of content around the world including existing content. PvP will remain unaffected to ensure our intended PvP balance going forward. We are also working on other reward and progression systems for the game that tie into current and new content and features. As you know we care very much about your support and opinion and are listening intently to what you say.

Finally we look forward to hearing your thoughts on the upcoming content, and we will ensure we share our thoughts with you on the experiences we share in the Lost Shores.

Chris Whiteside – Studio Design Director

Thank your for replying.

I’m still not okay with this. I play Guild Wars 2 because it’s what I want in an MMO. I’m not stuck on a gear treadmill, trying to get into gated content, or dealing with any of the design gimmicks that other franchises have become notorious for.

Having read ArenaNet’s design philosophy before buying the game, I was very excited. But now a new tier of gear is being added for gear progression, and gated content is being added.

For a lot of people, the reward was getting to the level cap, getting the gear they wanted, and then experiencing the content that’s there. Now, those rewards have lost their value.

I, and many others, feel lied to. We purchased the game under the premise that success was measured by skill, rather than gear checks.
