Q. Is Gamut an American group?
A. Gamut’s homeworld is a US server, but Gamut itself is international. I myself am German.
PC
AMD Phenom II X4 3.2GHz
GTX 570
6GB RAM
Windows 7
I run the game on best possible graphic settings (because I take a lot of screenshots and videos) at 1920×1080, and while I’m not checking my FPS regularly, I can run everything including zergfests in WvW smooth enough, except for (strangely) dungeons, where I have to turn supersampling down to native.
My melee experience so far is daggering on my Necro, so as a squishy squish, I have to watch myself a lot.
- having an immobilizer to keep the mob in place can save you when you need to heal… root them, get out of their range, heal, then get back in. Of course this will only work if they don’t have any ranged interrupts.
- whenever possible, pull groups apart before charging in, so that you have as few enemies as possible on you at a time
- only dodge the biggest attacks, or else you’ll run out of endurance at the wrong time. For bosses, that means you’ll have to do some research on which of their attacks do what kind of damage.
- if you are in a party, ask them to drop healing and damage mitigation fields on you whenever they can, instead of doing it somewhere away from you and your target (for example Rangers can drop a healing field that pulses condition removal, really useful)
I’m sorry that I can’t give any better tips, melee had survivability troubles since day one.
You can edit it at any time, however often you want, once you have it unlocked. It neither costs coin nor influence.
I actually experienced a serious lack of dynamic events in Wayfarer Foothills and Snowden Drifts, while I was completely swamped with things popping up in Metrica Province, and always had something to do in Plains of Ashford, so maybe it’s simply a coincidence.
Titles says it :]
But for me Necormancer/Sylvari was kitten; Can we stick to slang terms that mean something? Kitten? Good? Bad? Small and furry?
It’s not a slang term, ‘kitten’ is the word filter replacement in this forum.
Asura Ranger seems hilarious, with all your pets looking like you could ride them into battle.
Personally, I enjoy Sylvari Ranger… (and would probably also enjoy Sylvari Engie)… the Sylvari racials are mostly either ranged or immobilizers, it all works well together.
Cats, and by extension Charr, are better at seeing moving than stationary
victimstargetsobjects. What you’re seeing is simply a cameraman who’s too scared to back away from your character.True story.
A+, would lol again!
41. If you’re low on coin, somewhere out in the wild, and need to reach a major city, you can get there for free by entering any of the four WvW maps (open the menu for that with [B]). You will spawn next to an Asura Gate to Lion’s Arch. (Don’t do this if there’s a queue… not only would it mean extra wait time, you would also take up a queue slot of someone who legitimately wants to WvW.)
42. You don’t need expensive big bags unless you are a crafter… getting into a healthy habit of Salvaging > Send all collectibles to bank will keep you going even with just the 6 – 8 slot bags you get as quest rewards and loot. Only as a crafter will you be using a lot of bagspace for your crafting components.
43. Crafters can create bags whose contents are invisible at vendors, and are untouched by the automatic sorting when you ‘compact’… if you are someone who has troubles with accidentally selling gear you are actually using, get yourself one of those bags to keep all your shinies in.
44. Jute drops the most realiably from Bandits and Skritts
Mind you, I’ve only done Story Mode, but there were a few things that stood out to me, and I would assume they are even more applicable in Explorable Mode.
- contrary to what every other games teaches us, killing the healer mob first did not work out at all. What worked best was to kill Elementalists and/or Rangers first, because they have the nastiest AOE DoT attacks (Burning and Bleed), and tend to show up in pairs more often than other professions. Logic tells me this depends on the combined group build… if the group is high on damage, you go for the Eles/Rangers, if the group is high on defense, you go for the healers. But so far, I’ve made no personal experience to prove that hypothesis.
- calling out targets and assisting is an absolute must. Put Assist on a key you can quickly and easily reach.
- pulling carefully is an absolute must. Never fight in narrow pathways if you can avoid it. The more open space to dodge and run to, the better.
But I’ve also noticed some problems which I think are contributing greatly to the frustration a lot of people feel.
- in some environments, the red rings are nearly impossible to see (for example when the ground is very ‘busy’ or uneven, or when effects overlap)
- mobs sometimes reset too soon to pull them into a more reasonable area, especially when you break line of sight (not sure if pathing issue or intended)
- threat was sometimes completely illogical… I have seen mobs literally run through the group, being attacked by all four people (and possible NPCs) to chase after one ranged player who wasn’t even attacking them at that point (because they were running) for several seconds (which is a critically long time in this game)
It’s small things, and some of them are likely just buggy, but they can’t be mitigated with skill or tactics, and that tends to cause frustration.
If you have any questions, feel free to PM me here.
Gamut Gaming Group
(Front Page | Forum)
Gamut is a cross-gaming group that focuses on being a group of people you enjoy spending time with. And also play games with. It’s main purpose is to be a comfortable space for gamers who can’t be comfortable in the mainstream gaming scene due to prejudice and ostracism.
From the front page:
Gamut has three Big Rules, meant to promote and protect an atmosphere in which any member can feel safe, comfortable and relaxed. These rules are:
- Do not shame, attack or mock any individual or group who do not cause you harm for being who they are, and do not assume your views to be truer than other’s just because they’re conventional.
- You can talk about yourself however you want, but only yourself. If a term or phrase you use in reference to yourself still makes members uncomfortable, we ask you to consider avoiding that term in this specific space as a courtesy to your fellow members.
- Assume mistake, not malice if you consider a group member to have broken the rules, unless they make malicious intent clear. Equally, assume the desire to help, not malice if a group member points out a mistake, unless they do so in a hurtful manner.
Currently, Gamut has a Steam Group and a Member-only TF2 Server, a mumble server and the basic hub, the forum.
And of course the GW2 presence, Gamut Gaming Group [GGG] on Crystal Desert.
Application link is on the Front Page

Q. Is Gamut an MMORPG guild?
A. No, Gamut is a general gaming community. While the kick-off game for Gamut is an MMORPG (Guild Wars 2), Gamut strives to offer community in many diverse games, be it through MMORPG guilds, FPS clans, a Steam Group etc.
Q. Is Gamut an LGBTQ group?
A. No. Part of the basic philosophy behind Gamut is that respect and decency should not be reserved for ‘special interest’ groups, but should be a given in any community. As such, Gamut choses its members not by some specific attribute, but by the quality of their interaction with others. However, through the very nature of its philosophy, Gamut is certainly welcoming to many gamers who do not feel welcomed or safe in most ‘mainstream’ gaming groups.
Q. Why does Gamut have an application process?
A. While it seems counter-intuitive to inclusivity to deny or grant membership based an on application, there are sadly many gamers out there who promote attitudes contrary to what Gamut stands for. In order for Gamut to be the comfortable hang out it strives to be, these attitudes have to be recognized and avoided before they can show up in the group.
Q. Why does Gamut have its age requirement?
A. Gamut allows and encourages the mention and discussion of topics of a mature nature, including sex positivity. While there is no doubt that many legal minors possess the personal maturity to face and discuss such topics, their legal guardians may not. In the hopes of minimizing possible conflicts with outside individuals, Gamut asks its members to be legally responsible for themselves, which is in most cases achieved by reaching the age of majority. While there are countries with an age of majority below 18, a high number of Gamut’s hubs are based in the USA. Thus, the minimum age has been decided to be 18, the lowest age of majority in the US.
Q. Do I have to join Gamut for a specific game?
A. Technically, you do not. You can apply to join Gamut even if you are not playing any specific game right now. However, playing games together is the main activity of Gamut members, so you will have a much higher chance to make friends and get yourself known if you are playing at least one game with Gamut on a regular basis.
Q. What happens if I stop playing the game I joined for?
A. Your membership with Gamut stays unchanged. Whether you start to play another game or take a break from gaming, once you are a member of Gamut, you stay a member of Gamut until you decide not to be.
Q. Does Gamut ever kick a member?
A. Gamut may kick a member for disruptive behaviour. (For example insulting other members after being asked to stop, repeatedly breaking rules, willfully attempting to damage Gamut’s reputation etc.) Gamut does not kick members for inactivity or personal attitudes that are not expressed in a disruptive way.
If the UI is ‘small’, the font in the trading interface doesn’t scale properly and is nigh unreadable.
This may seem like a negligible issue, but it makes using the trading post physically straining, and going through the options menu to rescale my UI every time I wish to trade is a disproportionate effort.
