I’m not on your server, but have you already tried to get a party by asking for other players to join you in the map chat?
The Arah Story (which is the instance for the personal storyline) is needed by every player at some point. I’m sure you can find 3 others to join you.
Good luck!
Raise your fists towards the heavens and yell ‘curse you, Lady Luck!’.
As you have said, it is all about luck. Chances are you simply have a streak of bad luck, which may change when you use your gear more often.
I personally do notice differences in drops most of the time when I use MF gear. This could always change when I get bad luck.
It’ll even out over time, don’t worry about it.
I really do hope you are right… However, historical perspective makes me a bit less optimistic…
With the advent of such things as “DLC” and “Season passes” to games, can you blame a guy for being so jaded?
Not really. I am aware of how such a new addition relatively soon in the timespan of GW2 may come to a shock-or even an insult- to some players.
Ascended gear has upgrades already built in, so no, you won’t lose anything. There is no trade-off. It is better in any aspect.
@OP: If I were you, I’d sell those runes/sigils as they will eventually become useless.
Statwise upgrades are implemeted in the ring, that much is confirmed.
However, when it comes to weapons and armor, there may be statwise bonuses to Ascended gear, but there is a trade-off.
The specific rune and sigil bonuses
My shouts heal condition due to my runes of the soldier. Getting Ascended armor would mean a possible increase in stats, but the loss of the utility provided by the armor.
Like I said. This is still mostly speculation, so I think this debate is better held in the future when there is more concrete information.
They confirmed there will be an entire tier of Ascended armor. Read their blog about it. This does not confirm the existence of a Gear Treadmill though
Doesn’t that sound a bit self-contradictory to you?
“We’re adding a new tier, but it’s not a new tier…” is what I kind of hear out of all this.
One new tier=/=gear treadmill.
It isn’t contradictory until Anet decides to set the treadmill into motion with more and more additional tiers.
At this point, I see the Ascended gear as the last step on a stair towards finality. Especially because of the Infusion mechanic, which I believe is a versatile tool to avoid the need for further stat increases when it comes to new high-level challenges.
I sincerely hope this is the case and I as well would be saddened if Anet decided to set the gear treadmill into motion. I just am optimistic most of the time.
I never took a side but thank you for assuming that I did.
All I pointed out was you have no more concrete evidence that they won’t add in more equipment levels just as the other side has no evidence that this isn’t the last we will see of it.
I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have used ‘you’. I was referring to the general person that would reply on these forums.
I realize my error in typing it and I want to emphasize that it was not my intention to pigeonhole you into one of the ‘camps’. Sorry.
I love new content! keep it coming.. Was the first time in many years I actually had game-fun during Halloween
Would love even more skins and customization options!
It’s just a shame they’re going back on their own word.
Quote L. Murdock:
The new additions in November are just the start of our item progression initiative. We’re going to add tons of new high-level content to Guild Wars 2 in the future. As we introduce the new high-level content, we’ll also roll out complimentary Ascended and Legendary items (to say nothing of the other rewards you can earn by playing the content).
Item progression does not imply for certain that there will be more tiers. The infusion slot is an example of how to progress equipment without additional tiers. (If only they could’ve implemented them on Exotics, would’ve saved a lot of hassle I think)
New high-level content is a good thing (dungeons, areas etc.) and is not confirmed to be related to new tiers of gear.
(edited by Those Who Remain.1987)
They confirmed there will be an entire tier of Ascended armor. Read their blog about it. This does not confirm the existence of a Gear Treadmill though
Nobody cares about your runes anymore, because they’re just pointless. They will all be replaced with newer, more powerful infusions on your newer, more powerful Ascended armor, that will be required to grind the next tier of infusions for the next tier of ascended armor.
Except you will lose stats/boons as a trade-off for dungeon-specific damage reduction. Getting Agony reduction on your armor slots means no 6 runes for additional benefits that work in all content of the game.
This is a matter of waiting to see what the future holds when it comes to infusion. At this point, the difference in strength isn;t that abnormally high.
It also depends how the infusions work. Who’s to say infusions wont become a treadmill themselves? Though it could be used to satisfy the pro-treadmill types.
Which is exactly why I vouch for waiting for additional information, instead of relying on assumptions about the future to judge current content.
Like I said, I am skeptical as well at this point, but I’d say there is too little concrete information to condemn Anet for their decision.
Believing something simply because there is nothing disproving it is still faith.
I could roll out Russell’s Teapot but this is already getting off topic and the forum mods have an itchy trigger finger.
All I am trying to say is to avoid hasty conclusions based on incomplete information and assumptions.
At this point, we do not know what the future will look like exactly for GW2 in terms of gear. we should not judge the current update negatively based on assumptions about the future.
Treat the additional tier for what it is-one additional tier. If you disagree with that, then I will respect that decision as you based your verdict on the current update. As soon as you start with the ‘but they will add even more tiers!’, I will point out the fallacy in your reasoning in an attempt to make judgment more objective.
(edited by Those Who Remain.1987)
This dungeon will not be the only one with Infusion, actually every dungeon released after it will require more and more agony reduction, eventually becoming necessary.
I doubt it.
I think the Infusion slots will be used for a variety of situations, not purely focused on an escalated need for more Agony reduction.
Your faith that this will not happen ever again is just as unsupported as their idea that it will.
It isn’t faith. There is simply no information to suggest otherwise at this point.
I am ready to adjust my opinion if ANet decides to create additional tiers after this one. When that happens, the gear treadmill will be set in motion. The idea of a treadmill is that it keeps going and going, which can’t be done by one additional tier.
At this point, I am of the opinion that the Infusion system is what prevents the ‘Gear Treadmill’ from actually starting.
Oh snap, now you’re stuck in a cycle. Now you do it over and over, because there IS no end. Once you set an endpoint, and then decide that you need to move that endpoint, you will come to the same conclusion later.
This has been A Thing in online gaming for, what, 30 years now? Don’t tell me I don’t know what’s coming.
Which is why Anet added the infusions, which will counter the need of additional stats to challenge players.
The treadmill is not evident at this point. All you are doing is allow your bias and experience with other games to become a reality for this game.
at this point, we can not say the treadmill has started. That is a debate that can only be held in the future. For all we know, this was just the final step of the staircase to bring the game to its final tier.
Did Anet ever say exotics would be the strongest gear? I know that’s what everyone expected, but who knows if this wasn’t planned out long before the game release?
Had the Ascended tier been released within the launch, this outrage would be avoided.
I simply think Anet underestimated the relative ease of obtaining exotics and struggled to find a way to challenge players for many different situations with the standard set of stats.
The Ascended gear, in my eyes, is an attempt to tackle this issue while at the same time avoiding the need to create additional tiers. After all, infusions can account for many different aspects of the different dungeons in upcoming content.
Yes, Anet screwed up most likely, but not in the direction many people suggest they did.
Actually, at no point in that block of text does it say that. Just because you interpreted their PR garbage in that way doesn’t mean that’s what they actually said.
As we release more new end game content in the future, you’ll see more Infusions and Ascended item types being added to the game. Eventually, you’ll be able to kit yourself out with a full set of Ascended gear and high end Infusions to help give you the edge in end game content.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/linsey-murdock-unveils-new-high-end-ascended-gear/
Things like this make it much more likely that Ascended is indeed the final tier, using the infusions to account for the variability in new challenges in end-game content.
Negatron batman. Either way, it doesn’t matter since I’ll wait for the update and see how it goes before spouting my hate speech and doomsaying on the forum about what a tyrannical money hungry company Anet is.
You know, the logical response.
Also, I forgot to ask a question I’ve been meaning to ask you.
Do you honestly believe that the ring and backslot are going to be the only ascended tier items?
Do you honestly believe that Anet is bothering to create a WHOLE other tier of gear… for just rings and backslot?
If so, I have some really awesome snake oil to sell you that cures cancer and acne.
I would like to point you towards the keywords of Phy’s first message:
as of now
He is correct in that aspect and in no way contradicts the information I posted after him.
I feel the outrage on the forums is unwarranted at this point. Had this been the second or third time Anet introduced a new tier, there would be chance for an actual debate.
All I’m seeing now is slippery slope fallacies based on the experience in other MMO’s.
I have. I also know that there’s only 2 ascended item slots as of now.
Lol. Right. Go check your sources. I think you’re a little, teeny, tiny, wee bit mistaken.
This patch only involves the ring and backslot. Future content will slowly release the other possible Ascended gear.
At least, this is what I have found in all official sources.
All I get out from that article is them saying they will not be adding a new tier every 3 months. That is no way of a confirm that they will not be adding more new tier in the future. All it is saying is within that specific time frame after ascended is out, there will not be another tier introduce >.>
Then you are forcing your bias on your interpretation of that message. From all the posts Anet makes, it is pretty clear they added the Ascended Gear to account for different variables in new, upcoming dungeons with the use of Infusions.
This new tier is actually done to avoid the gear treadmill, while still being able to challenge players in new ways by using infusions.
I’ll admit I am skeptical as well, but I do not understand the huge amount of panic and disgust over these changes.
You only need to farm for Ascended gear once…. per character…. per build… but later you’ll get to enjoy farming up an all-new set of end-game gear, because you can’t sit there and tell me that they won’t introduce ANOTHER tier after this. Why wouldn’t they? They just did now after saying they never would, why NOT do it again?
Slippery slop fallacy invades your argument again. You simply do not know that at this point in time!
So… yeah, World of Charrcraft. You need Ascended gear to participate in dungeons to get more ascended gear to participate in the next dungeons to get the next ascended gear and so on…
You seem to conventiently forget that the infusions will be dungeon-related. The stats on the Ascended Gear will very likely stay the same.
They added this tiers exactly to avoid the need for the gear treadmill to happen. By cleverly using the infusion slots to challenge players on new higher level content, there is little need to increase the actual stats of these players by introducing additional new tiers.
You only need to farm Ascended Gear once. Afterwards, you only need infusions.
It’s not being blown out of proportion. We bought this game because it had things we liked and did not have things we do not like. Lack of mudflation was a major selling point for many of us. Many of us old farts aren’t interested in playing a game that’s going to mess around with that sort of thing, because we have in the past and we understand the game design decisions that a gear treadmill forces, and we do not like those game design decisions.
I dislike the ‘gear treadmill’ as seen in other games as well. There is simply not enough information on the progression of this in GW2 to come to the conclusion that Ascended Gear is the beginning of the end.
At this point, Ascended gear is nothing more than an extra step on a staircase leading to our final destination, not the endless treadmill you make it out to be.
A small treadmill is still a treadmill, and inevitably will become a larger treadmill. That’s how the concept works.
Slippery slope argument. You perceive this addition to be a treadmill instead of an extra step on a staircase, thus you assume there will be more tiers in the future.
This is not confirmed and should not be the premise of your argument.
If you split the game and allow free transfers, it gives people who don’t want this an “out”, along with an ability to buy in if they decide it’s not that bad after all.
You do realize how much this can hurt the in-game economies of both versions, if free transfers are possible, right?
Heh, it’s not gear wars 2. It’s World of Charrcraft. That’s what it’s been since 2007, and A-net has finally decided to simply throw out all of it’s good ideas and appease the WoW kiddies.
Nonsense. What you are doing now is using an indirect ‘slippery slope’ argument. The addition of one tier of equipment does not compare to the way WoW handles equipment tiers.
Until Anet decides to add more tiers to keep the ‘treadmill’ running in the future, we can not speak about a true ‘gear treadmill’.
Don’t let speculation become the source of your complaints.
What about the TP? It would create differences in the economy, making a reverse to the decision nigh impossible.
You are blowing a perceived problem out of proportion. ‘The game would only remain playable without this patch’, really?
lets say your mortgage is 3.2%. Is a bump to 11.2% something that would not think twice about?
8% is a lot.
You mean 3.456%, as it is an 8% increase based on your current power (which we deem 100%)
That said, any more speculation about the future is starting to seem like a slippery slope. Let’s wait for it and see how easily they are obtained, what their exact use is in terms of infusions etc.
More higher gears are not high on the spectrum in my opinion. and i thought this was against how Guildwars worked?
And what if ANet had included this tier in the actualk release. Would there still be a problem?
I’ll say that this new tier is not a problem in itself. If there are more tiers to be released, then the argument about the gear treadmill becomes more valid.
At the moment, this is all speculation. I doubt Anet is unaware of the possible consequences for such a decision.

I actually like my guardian in WvW. I’ll admit that the biggest weakness is the lack of a true ranged weapon. (when we try to destroy a wall/door, I feel less useful indeed).
However, I simply change my approach in these moments. I generally use Tome of Wrath to defend from a wall or to damage opponents on walls to make up for my lack of range.
Besides that, I use a pretty basic GS+Staff. I adore the greatsword and its invaluable fifth skill that pulls players towards you, just as I love the staff for the speed bonus and wall. (and big might is great as well and heals me quite a bit with Altruistic Healing)
As utility skills, I mainly use retreat and save yourselves, although I must admit I have not experimented much with my other skills.
As someone who also made a necro and liked the spreading of conditions, I prefer Guardian. It simply fits my idea of a character more. I couldn’t relate to my necromancer that much.
I guess it all comes down to personal preference. Just experiment and stick with the builds/characters you enjoy.
Good luck!

Considering the Rarity of Endless Halloween Tonic...
in Suggestions
Posted by: Those Who Remain.1987
Agreed.
I luckily got one of the Endless tonics, yet I was slightly disappointed that ghosts were not included in the transformation. I’d love to be a ghost, especially since my favourite mini is the ghost as well.
It would be glorious!
I am just having questions about the last achievement that I need for the ‘Emissary of the Mad King’ title, which would be a great addition to my Mad King costume.
However, due to the times that previous acts got started and I have to leave for a couple of days on Thursday, I wanted to ask whether someone could confirm if the achievement is doable before 11:00 GMT on Thursday. (I have to go after that time)
I would really be disappointed if I have to miss out on the title due to this, so here I am hoping for a reply.
Kind Regards,
Cathaír
I DC once every 10 seconds…my internet is working fine…
Yes, I am kinda baffled by the server issues you have now. You are promoting players to all log-in for this special event, thus you anticipate a very great amount of players. Yet I (and many others) can’t log-in.
And when I can log-in, the game throws me out within a minute. White screen. No error, no nothing.
The game has always run smoothly, so I am convinced it are no errors on my side.
Now I am trying to log-in again and it is almost insulting to read the ’this is most commonly caused due to issues on your pc, not our servers (the firewall stuff)
I’m sorry, but I am just disappointed at this moment. I really enjoyed the Halloween event so far and I hope I will be able to log-in tonight, but the situation leaves a sour taste in my mouth. People rescheduled stuff around a bit for this and then you smack them in their face by giving them errors.
I apologize if this thread came off as rude. I’m just annoyed at this moment.
Agreed. It was awesome.
Despite me taking multiple hours to complete it, I still feel it was entirely worth it. I’d love to see more of these getting added in the game.
My message is for the people at ANET. Not for trolls to quote. I care not for your opinion, my thread was serious. Thank you good day.
With all the respect, if you quit playing a game because you missed a single achievement, then you somewhat deserve to be called out on it.
Who cares that you did not get one achievement? It is certainly doable within the timeframe, even for those who have some difficulties with it.
Yes, you might be unlucky and not get it. That sucks, but achievements are (or rather, should be) achievements for a reason.
It’s not a feeling of “yes I did it!” for a lot of people. It’s a feeling of “ugh that’s finally over.” This is not how you want a lot of people to feel.
Disagreed.
In my experience, all guildmembers and people in the tower who made it were showing joy when they finished. caps, smileys, showing the slippers etc., all mentioned how much they liked the tower and how much then enjoyed it, despite the small annoyances.
Could you define ‘a lot’ to me, because my experience seems to differ greatly from yours.
I loved this jumping puzzle. It was exciting, frustrating, fun, addictive. After learning where and how to jump, i didn’t give a kitten about norns, charrs or anything else.
It was a great experience, to actually work for something. One of the few things you actually need to work (not grind) for. I advise everyone to try it – it’s not as hard as it looks, it just requires you to remember where you jumped and how.
Same. It was amazing and a nice challenge to face in this event. (It took me several hours to get it right, but it was well worth it!)
Dear Ruin’s players !
Greetings from the Arborstone’s french speaking server.
We are honored that the overall mastery and excellence entity of the GW2’s WvWvW pay so much attention on our simple persons.
We acknowledge your wish to join us in tier 1 EU bracket and learn some basics WvWvW tactics and give you a warm welcome. So you think you are well informed about our main structures. Actually It’s quite funny to read your so-called analysis about that specific point. You made us laugh, it’s priceless, tanks for that buddy.
Guess what, we have also some pieces of intelligence about you and we have been told that you are more like a bunch of “unbrained” zerglings that lie down quickly on the battlefield.
You pretend to bring The desolation on our servers ?
Come on and face humiliation, at least your well used to it yet.Bring your frail and sweet kitten’s white kitten in.
We will spread your rotten corpses all around the borderlands and your children will serve as meal for our war-hounds.You have warriors ?
We are
WAR !
Well…you certainly know how to light the fire in the souls of others.
We’ll meet in war!
Lol. Are you guys even listening what you’re saying?
“And kudos to Kodash for zerging early this morning on the EB. There were barely any Desolation defenders, so +1 for showing the will to deal with your disadvantages in a smart way.”
War is striking at the time your opponent is most vulnerable. War has no ‘I only attack you when you attack me’ rule.
So yes, Desolation had an advantage in the night and Kodash decided to take their advantage in the morning, whichs shows their willingness to continue to fight.
Also, FS already has a thread about recruiting US servers as well. If it was ‘morally wrong’ and ‘a kitteny move’ to do so by Desolation, wouldn’t FS hurt their ownj credibility by doing exactly the same after it was used against them?
The rules of the game has been set. Now it is up to the servers to be as effective as possible. If that means the help of foreign guilds, so be it.
(I actually hope each server has both a day and night shift or each server has neither of them. It might make it a bit more interesting. That said, the current situation is no disgrace to Desolation either, despite many making it seem to be)
I mostly play on the primetime evenings. While I thoroughly enjoy a good siege, I also enjoy going with a small group of people to capture supply camps when they are left vulnerable.
Dear people from Desolation,
Thx for RUINning WvW on our server
Normally we had some decent action at night, but now it looks like everyone just gave up and even at daytime we have a lot less people. You just RUINed all our fun.
Hope we get a decent match up tomorow and that we never see you guys again.
Also hope our people start playing again and not just rage quit the server.Greetz from a proud Far Shiverpeaks player!
Don’t put the blame on all of Desolation’s WvW players. I (and many others) have had not a single influence on this outcome.
I am personally having double feelings about the nightcapping of RUIN. On one hand, Anet has stated it is allowed and is thus a viable means to improve your score. You have to adjust to the rules in order to win, which in this situation means 24/7 coverage.
However, when I see every point in our possession in the morning, I can’t feel but wonder about the weakness and consequences of the above. It just does not feel right.
That said, I immensely enjoy the EU primetime in which Desolation has been able to deal with FS as well. Don’t put the blame of the loss entirely on nightcapping, that’s just silly and a poor attempt at accepting the loss.
EDIT: And kudos to Kodash for zerging early this morning on the EB. There were barely any Desolation defenders, so +1 for showing the will to deal with your disadvantages in a smart way.
I based my male Sylvari (Cathaír) on a Gaelic name meaning ‘battle man’, but my female Sylvari is called Susánna, which is Gaelic for ‘Lily’.
So I admit I used plants as a contributing factor for one of my Sylvari as well.
I really like the Sylvari and their openness of emotions. Ouf of all the races out there, the Sylvari are by far the ones with whom I can connect myself the most.
As a homosexual myself, I must say I did not even really notice the ‘gay’ relationships in the game, apart from the affection between Caithe and Faolain. They were relatively subtle about it, unlike a certain elve in Dragonm Age Origins, who was proud to be a bisexual and took every chance to speak about it.
So no, I do not agree with the majority of the OP. I welcome change in the mindset of game developers when it comes to controversial subjects. They should not have to limit their creativity just because a certain group of people might feel uncomfortable.
So you might see my Sylvari running next to you someday. Is he gay or not? In the eyes of the Sylvari, he is not. In the eyes of humans, perhaps.
My Sylvari Guardian is called Cathaír and is based on a Gaelic name which means ‘battle man’.
I must say that I really like the Sylvari in both lore and aesthetics. The Cultural Armor and Weapons are great as well.
I started having this issue since today as well. I haven’t changed anything in the past weeks and everything has been running pretty smooth before, but the game becomes unplayable by the Error 7 that randomly pops up within 15 minutes each time.
I seriously doubt it is on my end, ArenaNet.
